I haven't watched football in years, I use to be faithful then they did a strike for increase pay and a bunch of scabs played and I really haven't watched much since- that was along time ago, good to hear He is a christian too! rare find that both coaches are and are not afraid to vocalize. I bet the media wasn't happy...Good for them.. We are record cold...B-u-rrrrrrr bettter send that sun A.S.A.P. even C.O.D. I'd pay for some about now lol Blessings!!!
how are your friends DIL and granddaughter doing! Continued prayers.. luv you guys!
Wilma- I'll forward some if it ever arrives
  • Brrrrr Is Right!
It is absolutely frigid here. It's been around the -30C mark here all week. We've had trouble with vehicles not starting and the cold messing with the vehicle computer systems. DS's lights are coming on whenever and fans are cutting in and out. I sure hope it's over soon. I got the sunshine sent to me but now warmth to go with it.

Needless to say I don't go outside much except to get to work and back. I spent my weekend baking and reading. Nice and relaxing! My boss is in Mexico right now and missing all this. Nice guy!!

I'm off to the dentist this a.m. and then to work. It just keeps getting better!

    Have a great week!
  • Same as you WILMA, but I go to the dentist after work...oh....and it was 80 degrees here yesterday and the same is expected today.

SUE ~ I forgot to mention that the USA Today had a full page add on the back of their Super Bowl section inlast week-ends paper. It was taken out by Campus Crusade (I think). It had a testimony of both coaches, very nice. I just happened to grab it on Friday, our pastor even mentioned it in church. Just thought you might like to know.
  • Trying to catch up ...
Hi Everyone ... I have been trying to post so many times, but for some reason, unbeknownced to me, they just didn't work out. Oh well, eventually, I will get the hang of this. Gotto make more notes, I guess. I really shouldn't be too hard on myself about it, since I only got on the web November last (2006).

We've been getting record cold here too (-25 to -30C in Ontario), Wilma. We do have the lovely sunshine as well; and I am very grateful for that. Even though we're retired, the time still seems to go by so quickly when you're busy. It's like the guy who said "Who put my life on fast-forward?" I think this started a few years back for us.

Been watching my birds at the feeders thru my big kitchen window; love them so much. I try to do all my housecleaning in the morning so that I can have the afts free for the fun stuff (habit from my working days). I'm sneaking this posting in while doing laundry. My DH went ski-dooing on the weekend; had some scary adventures (a wee polar dip in thigh-deep water); but he's A-OK, and learned a very big lesson about watching where you're going, so he's staying home today.

I'm doing pretty good on my plan this month; struggled a little over the holidays and part of January with motivation, but I am back on track again and doing great. Looking forward to spring already ... ha! I'm going for my walks faithfully (indoors; walking the halls; back and forth). We live in a large four-plex in the country; each unit is like a house, with our own yard, garden, etc ... so there's lots of space to walk around indoors and out.

The full sun is warming things up a bit, so DH is playing around outside and in his hobby shop today; so I have the house free to myself. It's really peaceful and quiet here right now. Well, better go for now; and I'll try to post a little more often so you can get to know us better. Just want to get this one on its way. Take care and God bless u all! BTW, Rosebud is just a fun nickname, but you can call me Rose or Rosebud, or whatever; so long as u call me ... right? Bye for now ...
  • Hey ... it's me again!
Hi there: The other day when I posted I forgot about a little hint I wanted to share with Wilma and anyone else who lives in very "frigid" areas like we do. On very cold nights like -30C or lower, vehicles freeze up and won't start.

DH has a secret way of starting his every time. He brings his batteries in the house, putting them on cardboard, in the closet by the door. Then he puts them on "LOW CHARGE" on the battery charger for the night. In the morning, he puts them back in; and it starts up on a dime. This is especially good for older vehicles.

All our neighbours are now using this trick for their vehicles too. We also have block heaters on our vehicles as well; they plug in to an electrical outlet and keep the engine warm.

One of my sisters lives in Manitoba and her husband found a special heater that stays inside your car all the time and keeps it from frosting up (so you have no snow or ice on the windows, etc). She loves it. He got it from a major hardware store with the initials CT.

I hope this helps you in the future. There's nothing worse than not being able to get your car going when you have to get to work on time. We've been there; done that! DH has learned quite a few tricks over the years in that area.

Boy, I was surprised that no-one had posted since I was last on; but hey, I need the practice, so I hope you don't mind the double posting. I am just glad to be able to finally get in. So, take care everyone; ttyl ... your new encourager ... Rosebud.
  • thanks for the hints Rosebud! We have block heaters in all our vehicles and plug them in over night but both the vehicles really needed new batteries and of course the cold weather lets us know that pretty quickly. I will definitely look for that heater that keeps the frost off. I've never heard of it. I'm also still trying to dicifer CT. Maybe you could try to PM me with the name.

Gary: Thanks for rubbing in (a little) about how nice it is there. It went up to -20C here yesterday and people were commenting on how much warmer it was. It's amazing how you adapt to the temps.

    Have a great day!
  • Hi there!
Wilma- sorry to hear its still really cold there here it has been up to around 30 degrees high for day! but then it is to cold to snow too much so that works at least don't have to shovel to much... We had a beautiful sunny day, but E.Z. stole all the heat... Hope all went well at dentist, try to stay warm...
Just want to be healthy- glad you joined us, [rayers for warmth for you as well, happy to hear hubby made it out of the water with no complications. My brother went through the ice on a snow machine probably close to 20 years ago now, and got back out and learned his lesson as well, he ensures where he is the ice is thick enough.
E.Z- happy to hear they printed it even if it was on the back page... I always thought of USA as a liberal paper, but kudos to them... you didn't answer me how is your friends DIL and grand daughter doing?
Well its late, I am fine but tired so going run.. have an awesome weekend Prayers...
  • HI GALS ~

I hope everyone is having a good start to the week-end. I am still drinking my but then it is only 7 am here. Been up for a couple of hours reading the paper and relaxing with the CBS morning show. Angie is getting reading to head to bell choir practice. Later today we will probably do some painting in Ryan's old bedroom. It is the family room that I enclosed when Angie and I got married, now that Ryan is gone we are making it back into a family/game room. I tore out the walls a couple of weeks ago and patched them in this week after work.

Time out....Angie just said she is not going to bell practice and wants to go to breakfast..........be back later.
  • Well, breakfast was good as always. I had a San Francisco scramble, spinach, onion, jack cheese, and hamburger. Angie had her avocado and mushroom omlette...without the mushroom ~ 2 eggwhites ~ 1 egg instead of three eggs...always a pain in the ....!

We went and picked up a couple of colors and new rollers. We masked and I sealed the walls, we are waiting for the sealer to dry then each of us will do 2 walls with a color. Then Angie goes to get her hair colored and I will paint the patches on the ceiling.

The dogs are helping the best they can!....sometimes life would be sooooo much easier being... petless in California...hey! maybe a movie in the making here!

    Well...sealer is dry...be back......
  • Evening~

Well we were able to get 2 coats on the walls, need to do some cutting in tomorrow, and Agie was able to make her hair coloring appointment. We went to macaroni Grill for dinner, I had a shrimp portofino...with spinach, mushrooms...outstanding!! then we went over to Barnes and Noble to look at books for a cheap date! we used to do that a lot 10-12 years ago, when we were dating and newly married. Before kids...wait...we ALWAYS had kids!

Well, gotta jam....I will post to each of you tomorrow...after church...Angie has bells so listen for her!
  • A brand new week and it's sunny ...
    Hi Everyone:

Thanks for the weather prayers, Sue. Must have been answered cuz we have full sun again today; hope it sticks around for the whole week. DH is fine; he says the temp frost bite in his feet will serve as a reminder 2 b more careful in the future. Him and his rescue buddies are laughing about it already; chock that adventure up for the tall-tales dept! They have a way of growing, ya know ... LOL!

EZ you are brave tackling home renos; hope all goes well 4 u. Nice to have the extra room/den though, so it will b worth it in the end. Was listening for them bells ... sure would luv to hear them as we don't have stuff like that here, but that would be neato!

However, we do have cha-chas, tambourines, and lots of musac, like fiddling (DH luvs that). He says he wants 2 learn ballroom next ... oh boy! ! And, I was just thinking of getting some bongos ...

Hope things are good 4 U-2 Wilma, out there in Manitoba. I hope u guys don't mind my short-hand; it comes from using the messenger with my siblings and friends. I find it handy, but I'll try 2 remember about clarity.

Our weekend was pretty busy 4 us too. Went shopping and to our winter carnival; DH luvs the car smash-up derby best; had a double show with 34 cars in it. It's the most popular activity, so they save it for the last day, which was Sunday.

Also helped DH clean up an empty apt for the landlord 2 help her out; I got the ez stuff; spot-cleaning and puttying the nail holes ... only took just over an hour in all. We do the hallways 2, cuz we just like 2 keep the place nice for all of us, and we know that we are blessed 2 have the time as well.

Spent some of Saturday baking and catching up on my emails to family as well. I have five siblings and a large extended family; so I am trying to keep in touch with many of them over the net, cuz we are quite spread out from each other.

Prayers are flowing to the heavens for you Reba; I know how that is; I pine for those endless days of wellness from my thirties. I've noticed that you are all doing really well with your health plans, and with lots of success. Would luv to hear some of your favorite tips.

Well, that's about all the news here 4 now; I want to go and catch some of those rays while they're still here! Take care everyone, ttyl ... your newest encourager, Rosebud ...
  • Hi there!
I start medifast today! Doc. is going to let me eat a little.
Option #1 4 oz lean meat and 2 cups salad greens and 2 Tbsp diet salad dressing and 4 shakes
Option #2 4 oz lean meat and 1 1/2 cups cooked veggies and 4 shakes
    Option #3 5 shakes a day

Tonight its 4 oz boneless /skinless chicken and salad, I go back for weigh in Mon. 19th and bloodwork, will be checked weekly. I am excited to finally be starting again, been afraid to until logged in as official, so applies toward surgery. But all set now, I can start!
E.Z.- dinner sounds good, yummy- it won't be long and your room will be finished and you can host a card game for us, sound like fun girls? I gotta pick up hair dye and dye my hair lots of grey showing, I am sure angie's came out beautiful she always looks great...you would miss Reba/Rylee- who would keep ya busy filling holes in your yard...
Justwanttobehealthy- glad hubby is fine and sun is shinning, E.Z. gets it going from California, waving it over the Rockies, hopefully some made it to Wilma...
    Hi to everyone else.gotta run!
  • Well, Sue, the sun reached me but not the warmth. It's on it's way though so I'll just have to be patient.

I'm glad that things are working out for you on your way to your surgery. It feels good to be doing something isn't it? Take care!

Rosebud: Things are going well for me here too. It's supposed to be much warmer by the weekend!! i know what you mean by having family scattered all over. Mine live in different provinces so email is my main source of communication. I'm so glad we have it!!

Gary: Doesn't it feel good to be doing something in your own home instead of always doing it in other's? You know what they say about the shoemaker's kids having no shoes? At least we know you're not like that! You must be almost finished with all the renos. I keep thinking of different things to do around here and all my husban does is roll his eyes at me. Is that fair? I have GREAT ideas but he gets to do all the work. I think that's a great arrangement. I am, however, going to give him a break for a few months.

Guess I better get going. DH will be home soon and will want dinner. Leftovers tonight! I roasted a chicken yesterday and there's lots leftover for him.

    Have a good week!
  • HI GALS ~

Well, Angie and I got the familyroom all painted and the new shelves we bought from the Container store put up. Well, Angie did, I hung the top piece then she takes it from there while I guard the recliner. There were patches in the carpet where we took out the old walls, we were hoping that we could patch it in. I had saved remnants from when it was installed. Now, Angie and I do pretty well in the remodel department (as long as I allow her to do the electrical and she allows me to do the drywall!) Well, we found out that NEITHER one of us can patch carpet! Off to Home Depot we went to get some ideas!!

WILMA~ To answer your question...whatever your DH does is FAIR! I never come between a "working" man and his house duties!!

AUNT SUE ~ Angie is setting up the table as we speak. How about Loaded Questions? We "may" be too "colorful" for you But I'm sure we could win you over! I have a lot of friends that a lot around me, but they always come back!! My friends grandaughter and dil are doing as well as can be expected. He hasn't had any new news that changes what we already know. Now you know I got your back...but with that new diet...I am gonna have to do some heavy duty praying for you dear!!

ROSEBUD~ Angie and I are always changing something around here. She gets bored easily and has a lot of free time being a teacher...that being said, she HATES to see me resting! I would love to hear some different music at our church. The bell choir is awesome...but we only have praise music once in awhile...we are very tradtional "old" Lutheran.

I will catch up later....have a great week gals!
  • HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY GALS! YOU'RE THE BEST!
