I got home from Yellowstone on Saturday. I did almost 28 miles in the 10 days. Since then, I've done 5 miles of WATP--3 on Sunday and 2 today. I may even get to extend my goal after all!
August goal = 135 miles
Miles walked = 63
Miles to go = 72
Ok, I'm not too far behind schedule. I flew home last night, so today I'll be able to get back into my regular routine over the next four weeks (which is when I leave on my next 2 week business trip).
Today I'm planning a short walk - maybe 3 or 4 miles - or more if I feel good. On Sunday I did 20 miles. It went very well and I was not sore at all on Monday. 20 miles is the longest I've walked, so I was a bit nervous. And it turns out my nerves were for nothing...I felt great!
I'm training for the breast cancer 3-Day 60 mile walk where I'll be walking 20 miles three days in a row. This was my first attempt at 20 miles. I wanted to make sure I could last 20 miles well in advance of the 60 mile walk, which is in mid-October. I feel really good now and am confident that if I continue training like I have been, I will be able to complete the 60 miles without killing myself!
Hey guys, back from my 3 day experience. I got about 100 miles of biking in over the event. It was a wonderful, moving experience and I wish I could repeat it this coming weekend.
Walking goal: 80
Total walked: 56.9
Miles to go: 23.1
Brandy, Welcome back!!!! I'm so glad to hear the event went well for you. I am REALLY looking forward to my 3-Day in October. How was the weather? Was it really hot? Did you have to deal with any rain?
I just registered for a 15K race walk in downtown Orlando on 9/2. Proceeds benefit the neonatal unit of the children's hospital here in Orlando. I'm excited! My training partner and I are going to compete together. We are meeting tomorrow to do a 15 mile walk and work on our speed. Watch out - we're gonna kick some butt!!!
Hi Genesis, the weather was spectacular for our event. I think we had highs around 86, one night dipped down around 50 so a tiny bit cold first thing at 5 am, but SO beautiful overall. We were so blessed. I MIGHT be crewing for the Kansas City walk as they are 100 crew members short. I really want to do it (its about 1 month away) but a lot depends on what the group works out for transportation. (We're trying to get a group of Michigan crew to go together and help)
Are you planning on walking or running your 15K? I'm still just under 4 miles for my run distance. I'll probably hit the 4 mile mark in 2 weeks as next week is recovery. Its so cool your training partner is up for so much. Mine is great, but we run at different paces and so are seperated unless we're walking.
I'm so jealous that you still have your 3 day to look forward to!!! I am in serious withdrawl.
Brandy - So glad to hear the weather cooperated. I hope the Kansas City event works out for you. That would be amazing!
I just bought an inflatable air mattress to take with me on the 3-day. It's a self-inflating twin that uses 3 D batteries to inflate and it packs down fairly small. At $19.99 I figured it was worth it for two nights of comfortable sleep to help power me through the 60 miles.
I am going to "race walk" the 15K. My training partner does not run, so we are going to speed walk together. I've been incorporating some running into my 3-Day training. Out of my 8 miles yesterday, I probably ran 3.5 and walked the rest. I can run 3 miles at a 6mph pace on the treadmill without much trouble. When I run outdoors I have a heavy fanny pack with 2 large water bottles strapped to my waist which adds weight and bulk, so it slows me down. But I'm training with it on to prepare for the 3-Day.
Good luck with getting the Kansas City crew transportation figured out. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
Ran a cross country 5K in the rain. I did ok until crossing the 2nd ditch and had to crawl up the other side. I still placed 2nd in my age group though! Now that I'm recovered I'll say it was fun. If you had asked when I crossed the finish line-not so much.
My training partner and I did 16 miles this morning. It was fairly easy. The weather cooperated by not getting too hot and we lucked out with a light, steady drizzle and cloud cover to keep us cool. That's RARE in Florida.
August goal = 135 miles
Miles walked = 91
Miles to go = 44
