Cool Running in San Francisco

Hi, I am looking for a jogging partner in San Francisco. I can't even remember the last time I went running. I don't like it and I'm kinda slow. BUT, I want to start training for a 5k (3 mi) happening on July 6th called run or dye. It is a race where the contestants are given a bunch of dye packets that you throw at each other during the race. At the end of the race there are bands playing and everyone is covered in dye and having a great time. I think having someone to train with would help with motivation and focus. This is also a great way to be on a path toward our goals without obsessing over the goals. Not sure if age and gender matter to anyone, but I am a 29 yr old female. Hope to hear from one of you 3FC-ers!

It sounds like a lot of fun. But--if you can't find a partner you'll probably be able to find one when you do the 5 K there. Have you tried to find any running groups in your area? In my area the running shops usually put on these type of races and sometimes they get involved with matching running partners up.

Yeah, I'm sure I would be able to find a partner at the 5k but I was more looking for someone to train with before the race. I was thinking about looking up the running group, I was just hoping to find someone here in the support group. I think it would be nice to train with someone I could talk to about weight goals / diet / obstacles whatever, and vice versa. It's not the easiest thing trying to talk to your friend who eats whatever she wants and looks fantastic with obviously no food issues. If I don't find someone then, oh well, at least I put it out there right? :\

Well if the running shops don't do it--I would think that a Weight Watchers group would have someone within that group that would like to try running--that would make a good training companion for you. There's got to be a weight watchers group in your area--that you could call. As far as being fiscally fit and you're worried about someone who is thin, etc. There's a lot of new beginner runners--and I don't care how small or big they are--they all start out with one foot at a time--and have the same complaints. And let's face it--the best advice you'll ever get is from someone who has been doing it for a while.
