Default Does the weather affect your ability to be active?

Yesterday, it was really nice and sunny, and I felt great as a result, so I was able to get a good amount of excercise in the form of hauling groceries (pushed a heavy cart home) & walking around the neighborhood. Today, nasty, cloudy, windy weather has returned (looks like it's going to rain again!) to ruin everything. When it's like this, it really messes with my energy level. I feel so tired & lethargic, I just want to crawl back into bed. It's 70 degrees but I feel really chilly. When I try to step outside, the disgusting wind practically knocks me backwards. I HATE IT HERE!

Anyhow, I was just wondering if anybody else is this deeply affected by bad weather? I honestly can barely function (physically or mentally) when it's like this.

Not just you. I feel that way too. We will have temperatures in the 70s this week so I plan to pack my walking gear and change at work. There is a beautiful lake near my home and I will stop and walk the two mile trail before going home each day. I couldn't do that in the cold.

Nope. I walk rain or shine. I even bought a good quality umbrella the other day to celebrate this.

I gained my weight because of the weather! I moved to the Arctic and thought "screw this, I can't be healthy here!" So, while it can be daunting to workout in -50 degree weather, it doesn't mean you can't! I work out in my tiny kitchen now, which must be 6 feet by 6 feet. There's always a way!

There are SO many reasons not to work out and be healthy, but I find being healthy always wins! If the weather doesn't work for you, maybe have a fun indoor workout planned for rainy days? You can totally do it!!!

lol pretty much! I can see the Mackenzie river from my house! As far as bears, there was a grizzly shot outside my front door last year. Good motivation for running- I don't want to be the last one when another comes to town! :P

oohhh grizzlies can be nasty ones!

the weather doesnt affect me because it's a nearly-constant repeat of snow, rain, clouds, rain, more snow, all year round....yesterday we got 3 inches of snow, today's its a rare sunny day, tomorrow is a huge rainstorm moving in...i am NOT active outside...i know enough about myself to know that i would NOT work out in the rain and cold...i invested in myself with a gym membership

if you dont do it while it's raining, it will never get done up here

I hate winter more than anything else on the entire planet! And here in Ohio it lasts for about 9 months. I totally feel like a hibernating bear and have to force myself to stay functional.

I'm more affected by warm weather. As it warms up, I can't sleep as well and my energy levels drop during the day. If it's hot, I feel so lethargic. I get sweaty and cranky, end up dealing with chaffing in all the wrong places. I hate hot weather!

I do MUCH better from late fall to mid-spring. Next week, temps in the mid-80s to 90 are forecasted for Central California. I'm already stressed!

I have fitness equipment (heavy bag,Total Gym, a weight set + bench, and a stationary bike), but feeling so drained and barely able to move makes things difficult. Being irregular makes it even more difficult. LOL Plus, I just prefer outdoor activities. But the high winds here are highly irritating and demotivating. I could handle some rain or snow (I've walked in both many times, as I don't drive or own a car) but that awful wind just does something to me. Makes me tired & angry.

The weather seriously affects my mood. It seems like winter is hanging out forever...

In years past, I would have avoided outdoor exercise. But a year of standing on the sidelines for my son's rugby and now coaching, playing and training myself regardless of the weather (we have played in some disgusting conditions) has toughened me up. But I admit, it does influence whether I go to the gym or do something outside.

The weather use to affect me big time! I love all 4 seasons, but I remember doing well working out in the summer, most of the fall and when the winter come forget it. I wasn't going to the gym or walking when it was cold and snowy! So I decided when I was going to lose this weight I had to make some changes compared to all of the other times I lost 10 or 15 lbs here and there and gain it all back and then some.

One of the major changes I made was working out at home. I wanted to find some dvd's and buy fitness equipment *that I will use* so I wouldn't have to depend on the weather or going anywhere. It turned out to be one of the best decisions in my weight lost journey because I've never stuck to anything for longer than 1 month. I just realized at the end of April it will be one year of me working consistently (5 - 7 days per week)!
