Novangel - I wear Saucony Fastwitch. I went in and got fitted, and after a few misses, I really like these. I want to try the Kinvaras when I buy new shoes though; I'd like something a little lighter.
Good luck to everyone racing today! I had to skip my race. I was in the ER until 3 AM - I have a kidney infection.
I ran 3 miles Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I'm up to 32.5 miles for the month. I ate lettuce and 4 oz of turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. I've been back up to 149.2 since earlier this week. And I have nothing to explain the weight gain.
I'm going crazy not running. I've still got 8 more days of these evil antibiotics, and even if they weren't making me sick, I'm still in pain anyway. I'm so afraid this is going to completely mess up my training. The half marathon is only 13 weeks from tomorrow.
Running is VERY addicting. Never saw this one coming, I started a few months ago and now I need rehab. I work with a doctor that is a runner and when he told me he was "addicted" to it a year ago I probably raised an eyebrow. I always hated exercise but I am in better shape now at 38 than I was at 28 by far. Now I look forward to exercise. That amazes me.
I just joined a gym because I'm too sissy to run outside when it's below 40 degrees. So, I ran 3.5 miles on the treadmill last night but then I'm a crazed starving lunatic about an hour later. Geez....holy hunger, Batman. I make sure to eat before but it burns off like crazy.
ETA: Oh, do you ladies mind if I join more regular around here? I have graduated to running with the big dogs.
I'm running in Brooks Pure Connects, though I might switch to something else for the winter. They suck on snow and I don't always want to wear yak trax or similar.
I've been traveling a lot lately but have been keeping up with 4-6 pokey miles a day. My first 5k in a while is next Saturday. I probably won't run a longer race until the spring.
I put a very long-term marathon training program into my schedule. It actually has me doing less mileage than I am right now, so I won't be ramping up to anything hard right away, but it helps me to imagine being able to run a marathon by spring. It's the novice supreme program by Hal Higdon. I did his Novice 2 program for the half marathon and I feel like it was just right. This one is 30 weeks long and for absolute beginners at the marathon. I'm starting in week 8 because I only have 22 weeks until the marathon I want to run. Feels good to have specific workouts to do.
Noveangel - I wear asics lately- but only because I've had so many trail races - I'm not the biggest fan honestly. They feel bulky/heavy to me as opposed to my under armour sneakers which I LOVE but my doctor told me they are not the best for foot & especially for my neuroma...booo.
Regarding my neuroma, I went back to the doc for my 2nd alcohol injection and he said it had already shrunk .6mm from the first shot! Yay!! The only problem is that the injections leave my foot feeling sore for 3-4 days...oh well I was able to run through it. Feels SO much better than before.
Ran 7.5 miles on Thanksgiving morning to offset the huge turkey dinner, and I had my second to last race of 2012 yesterday - 15k hilly trail race. It was GREAT - despite a freezing start, I managed to warm up quickly - final time was 1:23:50 - 9 min/mile which I'm happy with but my tracker says the course was a little closer to 9.6 than 9.3. Regardless it was a great race.
I'm doing fine on the wimpy beginning of my marathon training plan. I'll get a chance to do a nice, long run this weekend -- one of the women in my running group is at the end of training for a January marathon and her training partner had to drop out. She also is facing surgery and likely will not actually be able to run the marathon she has been training months and months for, so a handful of us in the running group are going to run her marathon with her, relay-style, this weekend. I think I'm going to do 10-12 miles.
I wussed out of running outside yesterday. It wasn't so much the cold, but there was some snow, and I didn't know if the sidewalks along my route were completely cleaned off.
Before I lost the weight, I had EXTENSIVE problems with my ankles. I was always turning my ankles and falling. I've been on crutches many times for severely sprained ankles.
Losing the weight has (knock on wood) seemed to fix that, but I remain TERRIFIED of falling and injuring myself while running. I don't want to get hurt AND I don't want to be out of commission for exercising.
So instead I did P90X Core Synergistics during my lunch hour and then went home and ran 6 on the treadmill while watching The Voice that I had recorded from the night before.
I thought some of you runners might enjoy this video my husband recorded:
Defense what a really nice idea of you to do that - I love it!
Cherry I agree w/ you on treadmill v. outside! Way worse.
CHERRY I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE your video!!! Thanks for posting!!
I forced myself to run outside last night in the freezing rain - proud I made it. 5 miles in 46 minutes - I was FREEZING the first 1/2 mile but evened out eventually - I just wish I hadn't forgotten my earmuffs!!
