Did a charity 10K today - finish time of 49:16 - pretty great course. 2nd place female.
I almost didn't go because4 we are in the midst of a kitchen renovation and I was up late last night painting, but I'm glad I did. |
I went to DC this morning and picked up my race packet for the Marine Corps Marathon tomorrow. Weather predictions are bad for the race because of Hurricane Sandy - rain in the morning followed by harder rain and wind. I'm getting up at 04:30 to get ready, but if it's really raining hard maybe I'll just go back to bed. :( I really don't look forward to running for about 5 hours in the rain.

On Wednesday I completed the Couch Potato to 5K program. So today was my very first day as an "official runner".
I ran a c25k graduate podcast called Stamnia. I ran the 35 minutes of the podcast plus an extra five minutes. I guess I ran for 40 minutes straight. It's funny because nine weeks ago I thought I died after running 60 seconds straight. |
Great job, Cherrypie! 2nd place female- how awesome is that?!!
Alenna- Good luck with the marathon and hope the weather is kind to everyone on the East Coast. IsabellaOlivia- congrats on completing C25K! That was my start in running, and I also couldn't run 60 seconds without feeling on death's door at first. Now I have my first half marathon in week. I had my last long training run before next week's half; the program called for 10 miles, but I did 11.8. One of my toenails is suffering for it, but I hope it'll heal a bit before next Sunday. The weather looks great for next week- cool, dry, and sunny. I'm a little nervous about what Sandy is going to spill on us here on the East Coast, but I'm so relieved that the forecast for half day is good. I was hoping there'd still be some leaves on the trees- it was so beautiful when I checked out the course last week- but, if I have to chose between foliage or good weather, I'll pick good running weather any day of the week. Have a great week, everyone! |

Devadiva - Yes, I've done a couple of half marathons. I'm just trying to get my mileage up right now so I can train for my first full. I've been running scarcely since May. My fitness has definitely dropped.
Congrats to everyone that had races this weekend! Did everyone get through Marine Corps Marathon okay? What's it like? It's on my list. ;) I did 6 miles in the pouring rain yesterday morning and another 3 miles today (but they were hard miles. I felt so blah and drained. Thanks TOM!). |
It's been like 2 weeks since I ran any kind of distance. 7 miles in 1:03:13 today, not bad...

|
Did 1/2 MARY this morn...I now declare myself a runner ..my Ipod pooped out on mile 3 {and I NEVER run with out music!} so it was me and the dirt saw no one it was glourious! I got tired of waiting for one so I made my own.And actually did 13.3 my time was not wonderful but 2hr 30min but don't think its to bad for dirt and being 60 1/2 this month.

Congrats on your run devadiva! That's an amazing time!
CakeBatter - I really really want to do the Disney World Marathon. It just looks like so much fun. I hear the Princess Half is a great race too. Yesterday I did about 3 miles of interval running and my calves are hurting (aching) again. I got these lighter racing flat type shoes and experienced this initially (I gradually incorporated them into my runs) and I've been fine but these last two runs they've been hurting. I think it must be all the extra miles. I'm thinking about joining a run club. I'm hoping they post info on their winter marathon programs soon. |
On Sunday I ran the Marine Corps Marathon - there was not much rain at all during the race surprisingly, but some serious wind, especially on the bridges. My finishing time was very slow - 6:03 - but considering that I woke up with a bad headache, forgot my purse (with my driver's license), and was almost late to the start because I missed a metro train - other than that things went pretty well. I was amazed by the assortment of people running - jump-rope skippers, a juggler, blind runners (led by guides), a guy in an armored EOD suit, and Spiderman. The support by the Marines and spectators was really great. The marathon also cured my headache.
Then I got home and Hurricane Sandy came and it's been raining for the past 3 days - it finally let up this afternoon. So I guess tomorrow I'll do some walk/running, and get ready for the metric marathon (about 16 miles) I signed up for in a couple of weeks. Next year I'll do better as far as time is concerned (I hope). :dizzy: |
Congrats on your race Alenna! How many marathons have you run? What did you think of this one? I've heard great things.

I haven't checked in in a while because I've been super-busy. I am so proud of everyone!
I finally feel recovered from my half-marathon. I have a new, super-secret goal that I'll share with you all. I want to run the Boston Marathon. For someone my age it means being able to run a 3:45 marathon before next fall. I think I can do it. My half-marathon time would predict a marathon time about 90 minutes longer than that, but I think that given a whole year to work on it, I can get there. In this last year I ran a 5k, then 4 months later ran a 10k at the same pace, then three months later ran a half-marathon at the same pace. I can now run a 5k at the pace I need to run the marathon at. So, if I can run a 10k at that pace by January and a half at that pace by the spring, I can run a marathon at the pace by the fall, right? One of the things that I am counting on is getting lighter. I think I do ok as a runner for someone who is still in the obese category BMI-wise. Even this week as I have gotten back on track again after recovering from the half, I'm starting to lose weight. If I can get 50lbs off in the next year, I think it'll help a lot. Alenna -- I am so proud of you! Now you can say that you ran a marathon in a hurricane. How many people can say that? CherryPie -- I'm always amazed at how fast you are. Good job! IsabellaOlivia -- I failed at the C25K at least 3 times before I made it through. I sometimes wonder how I got here when running for a minute was so challenging! CakeBatter -- one of the women in my running group is doing a marathon at Disney in January. I understand the desire for the medal! The medal I got for my half-marathon was pretty cool because it was across the U.S.-Canadian border, so the medal ribbon was Canadian flag colors on one side and American flag colors on the other. I also saw your post about 5k before 5am. That's hardcore! My running group runs at 5:30 twice a week and I have to get up at 4:45 for that. I think that's bad enough! Devadiva -- you accomplish a lot with your running! I am amazed at how you handle the high elevations and ups and downs of your runs too. Ran a loping, slow 5 miles this morning. I think that I'm going to focus on running slow but doing 5-8 miles a day for a while. |
