  • I am also a newbie to triathlons.

A few years ago, someone was talking about triathlons from work, and I thought, maybe I can do that. So I did one. And I felt super good.

I have always done them on my mountain bike, until this year. And I was slower on my road bike! Or more out of shape!

But this fall is to work on my run, and get into better shape, so I don't fail miserably next year (or just improve my times).
  • I've done several sprint tris, and loved them. I've been considering getting prepped for running another next spring, as I'm too out of condition right now to do one.
  • Welcome Orr123 & shea5!

Train train train and you'll be ready for one in no time!
  • Okay kids, I have a triathlon on Sunday. I haven't ridden my bike in over a year. I'm not worried about the actual activity (spin class is a fine substitute) but I do worry a little about the mechanics... like my bike actually working for 9 miles! HA!

Anyway, part of me is excited! Yay! Tri! But the other part of me has a 15-month-old and is like booooo, early. I am posting here so that you all keep me accountable and I do it!

A very fit (male) friend of mine just completed his first tri and said, "Omg. This was so much harder than a half marathon." Which kinda made me proud!
  • YAAAAY!!!! I have my last triathlon of the season on Sunday, too!! Isn't that such a sense of victory? People have NO idea how hard it is until they do it!

It'll only be my 5th time out on my new bikes - so the 15 miles makes me a touch nervous (just the clipping in and out aspect of it.)

    GOOD LUCK!!!!
  • I beat my PR by 5:10!!! I am SO pleased with that!!!

I'm going to use the off season to work on my run, build some muscle and drop some pounds!
  • Okay, so the good news is that I RAN the WHOLE 5K which is a first for me. It was hard but I did it. The bad news is that I lost the timing chip during the swim! I almost cried. No splits for me. But I beat my PR by 10 minutes over all (and went up 200 places! It's a big tri!).

It's so funny because I was so dreading the darn tri all month and then, as soon as I started, I was like, "Oh yeah, I love this."

I hadn't ridden my bike (basically a beach cruiser with gears) in a year and a half. It had cobwebs all over it and BOTH sets of brakes were rubbing. I took off the front set (who needs TWO sets of brakes anyway?!) and then had a mechanic at the tri adjust my back set (he was rolling his eyes the whole time). I know my bike time is SLOW. Some of that is the bike, some of that is me.

Here's me! (On the right with my insanely tall friends -- their first tri!):

  • Goddess Jessica - WOOHOO on running the whole 5k! I hate running, so I plan to focus on that for the off season!

    Congrats on beating your PR!

Do you have any off season plans?
  • Off season plans:

Keep my current training program (run 2xs a week, swim 1x a week, yoga 1x a week, strength train 2xs a week). But I'd like to add one more yoga and one spin class.

I'd also like to do a race of some sort a month. Even if it's a 5K. I am thinking of doing a half marathon in February. Maybe.

    What about you?
  • I'm going to use this off season to really work on my run and build some muscle.

    M: Run
    T: Spin
    W: Run/Weights
    T: Off
    F: Run
    Sat: Swim/Weights
Sun: Ride on my bike (optional)

We will do a race a month - we've got a 5k this month, a 10k and a 4k in November and then we've gotta find more to register for. We'll probably sneak in some bike races/rides, too.

Come the end of Feb I'll start going into a training plan for our May triathlon. We've already chosen 5 for this coming year.

Let me know how your off season goes!
  • Five triathlons!? Holy Jebus!
  • Haha! They're all sprint distances. When I get to my goal I want to do an Olympic. What about you?
  • Definitely an Olympic distance. The only thing I dread is the bike with that. UGH!
  • It's the run I dread. ugh.

I read that they took the Athena division out of the Ironman distance! WHAT?!
  • Omigosh. I just stumbled upon this blog entry today and it made me laugh so hard, I had to share.
