Ummmm....did anyone notice I didnt come back Monday and post how much exercise and good eating I did that day?? Welllllll...that's cuz it didnt happen.:^: And I promised too, didnt I?:?: :( I got my 3 miles in yesterday and today tho so MAYBE I'm gonna get myself back into the groove. I've actually done really well on the eating today. (so far..lol)

Mindi, I'm like you. Sweets are no problem to resist, but I LOVE things like chip and dip etc and things like chicken fettucini alfredo are my favs! Glad you had some pizza for us...I havent had any in ages. I'll do the same for you sometime.

Zanne, sorry to hear about your uncle. Good for you for thinking ahead and planning your lunch and snacks. Sounds like you're doing great with your new plan.

Chach, did you get to close on the house today? I hope so! I know that'll be a relief to get that all finished with. I'm sure you got plenty of exercise during the move. That always wears me out. I hope I never have to go thru it again.

This week is going by pretty fast. Cant believe it's already Wednesday. Hope you all had a nice Labor Day. I loved having the day off, but at a bank (as well as other jobs, I'm sure), sometimes the day after the holiday makes you wish you hadnt been off at all.:dizzy: People go crazy when the bank is closed for a day. I've never understood that..lol Guess I've never had enough money that it mattered.

Well better run. Everyone keep up the good work!

Miki

Chachee 09-04-2003 02:07 AM

Hello Power Gang! *says with a Kleenex to her nose* I am battling a major head cold, so bear with me.

THE BATTLE IS OVER! We have closed on the house and officially own it as of midnight tonight. We signed this morning and were very happy to have it be significantly less to close. Our first payment is due October 1, but we saved so much on the interest! I don't think I have ever written my name so many times. The "Title" lady was fun and made it not so boring. Our realtor was there and gave us a gift card to Barnes and Noble and a very nice card. Still waiting for the rain gutters and the hose fixed on the dishwasher and my special order to be delivered, but it's all good right now. I'm a homeowner and it feels so good to say that.

I was going to buy my congrats gift today, but couldn't find it. I want a Gamecube but Costco didn't have it in stock and I didn't feel like driving to the other side of town to Toys R Us, so I'll wait until this weekend. Dish Network dude is coming by the 19th and installing the dish. Finally, tv will be back.

Zanne: Great job on the eating. I am still doing well and hoping to be back 100% by the beginning of next week. It's hard when you are sick, but I am trying! I was thinking of picking up the SBD book.

Mindi: The sciatica is bad, but I think it will clear up as the stress leaves my body. I am looking forward to sleep tonight and hope my son sleeps in so I can also!

Miki: Sounds like you are still doing well with the exercise. Keep up the great work. I know what you mean about the bank!

Well, back to work and then home. Yahooo!

Chach

So much stress is leaving my body that I am feeling exhausted. I am thinking that this evening I will be getting the best sleep that I have had since May. Let's hope so, because girls, I need to sleep. These health problems should go away soon also, because I think my muscles are loosening up! We shall see.

Mindi 09-04-2003 07:42 AM

Stress IS a killer...I think its a major factor in americans and their weight..yet its not often addressed as such. We race from place to place, trying to handle stuff, and we make poor food choices, often because of time and the inability to handle all we need to get done.

Sometimes I wonder if all the technology hasn't really set us back..in a physical sense I mean?

its a beautiful day today..try to get a few minutes to get outside if ya can! And have a GOOD day!

Chachee 09-05-2003 01:31 AM

Hello Power Gang!

I'm so sick! My head cold has turned into a major chest flu bug. Can't stand in the way of being up and around, though. I had to go grocery shopping because we were out of food. (Well, not really, but getting close!) I went to the Commissary and spent $230. Freezer and pantry are stocked. I need to go to Costco to get some fruit and veggies, but other than that we are stocked up.

Mindi: I agree with you on the stress. I finally had a good night's sleep last night. I was really looking forward to that. I agree with you also that all this technology has made us lazy as a Nation. Too bad.

Where is everyone at??????

Chach

Mindi 09-05-2003 07:40 AM

Sorry you're under the weather Chachee! Lots of rest and liquids for you, girl. Eat well, relax, this weekend, watch movies, read, whatever it takes for you to unwind and get over your bug!

Suzanne, I picked up SBD yesterday, gonna read it this weekend and a pal and I are going to start it on Monday. Any tips???

Coachs_wife 09-06-2003 04:02 PM

Hey gang,
Sorry it's been a week...(and a tough one at that.) Ya know I started a new job about 2 months ago...well, seems as if they are having some "Financial trouble" and a layoff is in the works. The newest person in each department is suppose to get the boot. Why couldn't it be the "less productive" person???? Of course, I'm not only the newest person in the lab, I'm the newest person in the whole clinic...how's that for bad luck?
It's been a depressing week. Sorry I didn't get started back with you guys...someone hit it on the head about STRESS...hard to do anything when it hits.
Don't mean to put a damper on the discussion...just needed to vent.
You guys keep it up!
Ciao for now,

Zanne 09-07-2003 11:09 AM

Hey Power Girls!

Hi All

Well, I only did that one day of exercise last week:( I think that after the memorial service on Tuesday, I'll actually be able to get on the schedule I want.

Good news is that I am starting my 7th day of South Beach and I've lost 3-4 lbs already! I only have about 35lbs in total that I want to lose, so I think this is an amazing loss. I just have to keep it up. The book says that the average loss after the first 2 strict weeks is 8-13 lbs. I didn't think I'd lose even the 8 lbs but it looks like it may be possible!

We went to a friends' for dinner last night and all I drank was water and tea , I had NO dessert (except for the last weiner the kids didn't eat) and there were 2 different desserts, no potaotes or pasta. I had brought a cheeseball and celery and deviled eggs that are legal for me to eat. I always feel full.

I did have an awful craving for chips the other night, so I drained a can of chick peas, mixed in a bit of olive oil and some salt and baked them for about a half hour. I didn't eat as many as I put in the bowl and was quite satisfied.

COACH--you can come here to vent. That may help your stress. Sorry you may lose your job. I didn't get back to Power 90 yet like I wanted to, so you're not behind!

MINDI--What did you think of the SBD book? Tips? Hmmmm. the best tip I can give to to PLAN. I planned my dinners for 2 weeks and made a list of acceptable breakfast and lunch foods that I choose from every day. I found the meals in the book quite good and I could live with most of them. If you run into specific stuff, let me know and I'll give my opinion.

CHACH--Hope you're feeling better. Now that things are pretty much settled with the house, you'll have less stress and you'll be able to get on track soon.

MIKI--How are things going with you?

Ok, gotta scoot.

Mindi 09-08-2003 07:52 AM

Coach, I'm sorry about your job situation! I never did get why people hired others when they KNEW layoffs were in the future?? I mean what's the point??? Hang tough girl!

Zanne, I'm starting SBD today w/a friend. Should be interesting and I hope it works! LoL Sadly I broke a back tooth over the weekend so I have to kinda mush my food til I can see my dentist so yesterday I threw chicken and vegetables in a crock pot. I'll feast on that and string cheese for a couple of days and hopefully get the tooth fixed so I can chew easily again.

I will say I carbed UP yesterday ...you name it, bread, chocolate, ice cream, even some Cheetos. Am I bad or what? This am, I threw out the cheetos, put the bread in the freezer and the ice cream? Well hopefully I can ignore it. S**

didn't work over the weekend, but I'm back on it today.

Chachee 09-10-2003 08:48 PM

Hello Power Gang!

Coach: I am so sorry to hear about your future job loss. That really sucks that you are getting hit all the way around on that deal. I know what you mean about letting the least productive go. They always seem to make it when someone who is really a worker has to go. I'm sorry about that! Come vent here anytime!

Mindi: Did you start SBD? I might go look for that book. Sounds like something I can do.

Zanne: Yep, getting settled. I am going to try to have a garage sale this weekend and get rid of the big mound of stuff in the front of the garage. Should be a good money maker since it's almost all home furnishings and baby clothes and baby toys from my son. Those things always sell well.

Okay, had my "annual" check up today. I am thirty pounds down from last year. My doc was happy about that. He gave me the referral for the plastic surgeon for my breast reduction surgery. My consultation is not until January, so I am going to get on the ball and lose 50 pounds by then. No joke! I am back and ready to tackle this because the thought of my reduction surgery is soooo very exciting to me. I've been this size since high school and it's just killing me now!!

Hope everyone is doing well and let's get back on track and focus!

Chach

Oh, and my new puppies will be here next week! Yep, I said puppies! The breeder offered us our first choice and then said if we wanted our second choice she would discount it for us. We decided to get both of them. They are soooo cute!!

MikiG 09-10-2003 11:26 PM

Hi everyone!

Sorry I havent been around the last week. I've been really busy and just havent been able to find the time. I dont have time to post individually as it's already almost 10:30 pm and I have stuff to do before bedtime, but I did want to at least check in and let ya'll know I'm still alive and well. Doing ok with the eating for the most part and walking every day.

Chach, congrats on the house and hope you get to feeling better very soon. Coach, good luck with the job. If you do lose it, that just means there's a better one somewhere out there just for you. :) Zanne, way to go on your new diet! Mindi, you're not alone...yesterday I bought a box of ice cream sandwiches AND some fudge bars.:^: Good thing the whole family is eating them.

Well, guess I had time to post individually after all. Not much, but missed you all and had to say hello. I'll be back soon.

Miki

Mindi 09-11-2003 11:24 AM

Hi girls!

Chach, CONGRATS on your weight loss and your new babies!!! That's wonderful on BOTH accounts. :)

Miki, sorry you're so busy! Just slack off like I am today and surf the web. HEHEHE

Girls, I've lost 3 lbs since Monday and while I know its water weight, I'll take it. I'm not proud. LOL So far, so good on SBD, I don't feel 'weird' like some folks do when they cut out a lot of carbs and I've been able to hang tough w/three SS workouts this week.

I have to say I was up peeing all night last night, so I'm tired today. I think I'm in Ketosis..sometimes happens when you cut out lots of carbs. So I doubling up on my water intake and because I'm tired today, I'm going to do the Cool it Off DVD from SS, which is an hour of stretches, yoga and pilates moves. I love that workout!

Hope you have a good day everyone!

MikiG 09-12-2003 09:27 PM

Hi again everybody...

Mindi, the funny thing is that I was actually off for 3 days this week but have been busier than usual!! When I finally have time off, I always have a ton of stuff to catch up on. (finally got the mopping done that I've put off for a month!:o ) At least every morning, I got my walking in before I started the rest of the day. I worked today but my sis and I made it 3 miles before so I was happy about that. Went out to eat tonite tho and probably erased that bit of exercise with the Grilled ribeye steak and baked potato with butter and sour cream that I had.:^:

Hope the rest of you had a nice day. It's the weekend...Hooray!! Enjoy it everyone. :)

Miki

Chachee 09-13-2003 12:04 AM

Ouch, ooch, eech!

Hello Power Gang!

Okay, good news or bad news.....hmm...let's go with good news first. Good news is that I am now on medicine to help get rid of this sciatic pain. Bad news is that it looks pretty severe and I am on a steroid, pain killer and muscle relaxer. I am on these for two weeks, then back in for another exam, then probably physical therapy for a month or so. Bottom line is that I am not allowed to do any kind of lifting, exercise, or anything that would strain my lower back or quads. How often do you get a strict warning from a doctor telling you to not exercise? Not too often, so I am now understanding how very serious this is right now. It's starting to sink in that sometimes maybe I don't know best and that I better pay attention and get this fixed or I will have a lifetime of problems.

Needless to say, I am bummed about it, but determined to take care of myself for my son, hubby and most of all, myself. I want to be able to move around, have fun, etc., and not be sitting in a chair on a heating pad. I wish I could pinpoint when this happened, but I honestly am drawing a blank. I haven't changed anything really, and haven't got in any kind of accident.

It's pretty bad when the doc says, "You see how your spine is straight right there? Well, it's suppossed to have a curve, but your back is spasming so much that you are holding yourself straight up." He said he wanted everything to "chill out" and "reset".

I'm discouraged and have turned to mini Baby Ruth bars to comfort myself. Yes, I am a stress/emotional eater. Plus, TOM is here and the cravings are real bad.

Okay, enough pity party! On to my friends...

Mindi: I love being in ketosis. I know that my body is burning that darned fat off and it feels so good to wake up and have those strips turn up to that pretty dark maroon color. Glad you are doing well with your loss.

Miki: Great job on the walking. Sounds like the eating hasn't been as good as you were, but still doesn't sound too bad. Keep up the good work.

I'm exhausted and still have 4.5 hours left to work. I'll make it, just plugging along.

Have a wonderful weekend, ladies, and thank you for listening to me.

Chach

MikiG 09-13-2003 09:54 PM

Chachee, sorry to hear your disappointing news. You definitely have no choice but to follow doctor's orders as far as stopping the exercise for now. Better to do that temporarily than end up messed up for good. Besides, just think, you're already 30 lbs less than this time last year so you've already accomplished a great deal. Stick with healthy eating and controlled portions and you'll continue to lose even if slower than with the exercise. (now those Baby Ruths probably wouldnt be the best choice:nono: ) (neither is the ice cream I just ate..lol)Just be sure to keep coming here with us. We call this thread "Exercise" but we're all in this together now whether we're working out or not. 3FC is one of the biggest reasons I've succeeded as much as I have. Without everyone's inspiration and encouragement, and the occasional kick in the butt,;) I would not have stuck with it this long. Take care of yourself and hopefully soon you'll be able to get back into your Power90 or whatever other plan you want to do.:)

Miki

Mindi 09-14-2003 09:55 AM

Congrats on your walks Miki..I love walking too but since I lost my beagle, Holly, its just not the same, you know? I also find that since time is short, I have to do exercise that gives me more burn per minute and that's a shame cause now is the BEST time of the year for walking..:(

Chach, I'm REALLY sorry to hear about your back...did your dr. ever tell you that you could walk? I never went to an MD for my sciatic problems, I'd see my chiro instead, and he always told me walking was fabulous for the back. I need to do more of it instead of whining about time like I did above to Miki! LOL Anyway, I hope you feel better soon!!! (make ricotta creme and throw away the candy bars!!)

Happy Sunday all!

Mindi 09-15-2003 11:29 AM

Hey Miki..I see you want to get into weight training more..do you want to head to a gym or would you like info on great weight training workouts at home via exercise video/dvds?

MikiG 09-16-2003 09:20 PM

Hi Mindi:)

Yes, I do want to get into some weight training. I dont live anywhere near a gym and right now, I really cant afford to spend anymore on tapes or equipment. I was hoping I could find some links that would give me some good exercises and instructions that I could use with my son's weight bench set. I want to also keep walking everyday. You know of some good links or websites? From everything I've read, I can see that to get rid of some of the 'excess baggage', I am going to have to tighten it up with weights, I think. I dont want to be flabby. I'd rather be a toned size 14 than a flabby size 8.

Well, have to run for now. Hope to hear from everyone else soon! Ya'll have a good week!

Miki

Chachee 09-16-2003 10:00 PM

Hello Power Gang!

Went to the dentist today to get a crown prep done. My mouth is sore, but not throbbing. More of an aching thing.

Feeling a little better today from all the meds. Still bummed I can't do any sort of exercise, but it will all come together eventually.

My puppies get here tonight at midnight. I am off work early to go get them at the airport. I'm so excited.

Miki: Thanks for your words of encouragement. They did help. I haven't resorted to the Baby Ruths again. Just had to do that for a little bit. My own little chocolate pity party. I know I have to mind the doctor, but it's so hard right now. Sounds like you are doing well. As far as weights, I loved the program Montel Williams and his trainer put out. You need a weight bench and free weight dumbbells, but you should already have that with the Power 90 stuff, right? It's called Body Change or Body Challenge. It's real good.

Mindi: I didn't know you had a beagle. Mine get here tonight. A female named Peanut and a male named Buster. They all believe they are going to be "pocket beagles" and there hasn't been a recorded pocket beagle in over 100 years. They don't expect them to get over 5 or 6 pounds at most. I'm so excited to get them home with us tonight.

Okay, I am out of here to finish up work. I'll try to be better checking in. Just really swamped lately and home computer is still down.

Chach

Chachee 09-18-2003 02:48 AM

Hi All!

Just a quick note to let you all know my puppies got here and they are adorable. I'll try to get some pics up soon, but I don't know exactly when that will happen.

A note of good news.....almost all the pain in my right leg/hip/butt is gone. I think these steroids are working, even thought I don't like how they make me feel.

Hope all is well with everyone!

Chach

Mindi 09-18-2003 08:53 AM

Miki, come here: http://www.videofitness.com/ best place to start for home video weight trainging information.

Plus I have a ton of weight workouts, I'll be glad to help you if I can. Of course you don't NEED the videos, you can workout w/out em, I often do. You just need some basic equipment and until you can get that, you can work w/household items and in some cases, even work w/your own bodyweight, like squats and pushups.

Chachee!! congrats on the lack of pain and the beagles!! oh I LOVE them and I've never ever seen a pocket beagle and we raised em, along w/other hounds, since I was a kid. Dying to see yours!

Down 3" in my belly, my WORST area..I'm loving SBD!!!

Zanne 09-18-2003 09:36 AM

Checking In

Hey Gang!

I haven't been here in quite a while!

I finished the 2 weeks of phase one of SOBE diet. I lost 6 lbs and 6 3/4 inches--3 inches from my waist. The book says one will lose 8-13 lbs, but I don't have too much to lose (about 30-35 lbs) so I think 6 lbs is great.

I was able to stay away from all illegal food except for a chip here and there. So I thought that I could stay away from some oatmeal cookies I got for my guys. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID SUSANNE!!! I ate about 8-10 of them and then I felt really sick. My stomach was queasy and I was so lethargic. NOW I can look at them and don't want ANYTHING sweet. Other than the cookies, I've been pretty good about adding back in some good carbs.

I hope everyone will be safe from hurricane Isobel. We may get the remnants of it in the way of bad winds and rain. Today I have to go out and put away all the lawn furniture and stuff. It's going to be a beautiful day, so it'll be nice to be outside.

I still haven't got the exercise back into my routine!!! I AM walking DS to and from school every day and once in a while I'm helping out at lunch time, so that means an extra trip walking to school. Plus DH has needed the car for work, so I've been walking to the mall a lot. At least it's a bit more exercise than I have been getting!

CHACHEE--I'm sorry to see that your sciatica got so bad, but I'm happy to see that it's getting better. Now, make sure to listen to the doc. you may be feeling better but it doesn't necessarily mean you're completely healed. Just take it easy. I'm sure that's easier said than done--what with you getting 2 new puppies and unpacking and all. 6 lb dogs? I can't imagine. My cat is about 15lbs! can't wait to see pics of the little guys.

MINDI--HOORAY for you for losing 3 inches! I didn't lose too much on my belly, but I lost 3 inches on my waist, so now I look like I have a waist!!! I'm going to have to get that exercise going to help me lose the belly inches. How are you finding SOBE for eating? I actually found it pretty easy.

MIKI--Joyce Vedral has some good books on weights for women. Maybe you could check out the library. I previewed some of her books first and then bought the one I really liked. It sounds like you already have the basics with the bench and a few weights. you could even use tinned goods for weights.

Ok gang, gotta go start the yard clean up. Hope you all have a good day! Stay safe if you're in the way of Isobel!

Mindi 09-18-2003 02:43 PM

I find it pretty simple Susanne. I keep it simple too. I don't follow the book recipes, don't have the time, i just eat lean protein and vegetables, etc, from the list.

My favorite is of course, the ricotta cremes. *S*

MikiG 09-21-2003 10:19 PM

Hi everybody!

Mindi, thanks for the link! I just ordered a free catalog from there. I figure I can check it out during slow times at work.;) Way to go with the 3 inch loss!

Chachee, it's good to hear you're feeling better (well, the hurting part anyway..I hate that the steroids make you feel weird). Just dont get too confident and overdo things. Dont want a relapse! Cant wait to see a pic of your new puppies. :)

Zanne, welcome back! Congrats on the 6 lbs! That's great for 2 weeks.:cp:

Everyone have a great upcoming week! Talk to ya'll later!

Miki

Mindi 09-22-2003 10:44 AM

Miki, I probably have a video or two that I no longer use. If you want them, I'd be happy to send them to you. A start anyway. :)

Happy MOANday ladies!

MikiG 09-22-2003 10:19 PM

Mindi, that would be great! At least that way, I could preview and use them awhile to see it they're something I'd like before purchasing my own. I'd really appreciate that.

Miki

Mindi 09-23-2003 07:21 AM

tell me what equipment you have, if any, and i'll see what may work for you. :) i have a couple you could just have if you like them.

Chachee 09-23-2003 09:16 PM

Hello Power Gang!

Sorry I've been MIA. Hubby and son were sick and I had to stay home from work yesterday to take care of them.

I went out and bought the SBD book this weekend. I am into the second chapter, and want to make my way through it before I start the plan. I've heard good things from a lot of you and some others I talk to and think I want to try it. Some of the recipes sound wonderful! I'll let you all know how it goes and when I start it. I'm thinking Friday.

Mindi: I took the puppies in this weekend to the vet. The female is 3 pounds 8 ounces and the male is 4 pounds 10 ounces. They are 11 weeks old, and are so tiny. We are working on the potty training thing. It's going pretty well so far. Only a few accidents.

Susanne: Congrats on the losses so far. That's wonderful. I hate having setbacks. I figured that chocolate chip cookies are not going to be on the diet, so I made a bunch of them Saturday and ate all I wanted. Now I am not craving them, so I guess it was good??

Miki: I am feeling better. Still not exercising, as per doctor's orders. I am not going to overdue it, because I need to get this fixed.

Good news, ladies! The sciatic pain on the right side is totally gone. I mean GONE!! It just went away some time last week. I didn't really notice it. The numbness is more tingly now in the left side, which is a good thing also. I am jazzed that it's getting better. I am down to 1 steroid a day, and the doseage is going down and will be finished in a week. Yahoo!

I better go. I promise to get some puppy pics on here as soon as I can. Home computer's hard drive was what got killed. Purchased a new one, but still need to load all the software. What a nightmare!

Be good!

Chach

MikiG 09-23-2003 10:53 PM

Mindi, my son has a weight bench/bar bell with up to 100 lbs of weights. He has dumbbells from 3 to 45 lbs. I have a pair of 3 lb, 5lb, and 10 lb. weights also. I carry the 3 lb ones occasionally when I walk. That's the only weight-type equipment that I have. Oh and I have some 2 1/2 lb ankle weights. I really need a planned program or routine. I dont know how much weight to start with for each area or how many reps to do. Oh, by the way, you're welcome to try my PowerHalfHour tapes if you'd like...any or all of them. There are 5---arms, abs, thighs, stretch, and buns. I did them for 4 weeks and then got kinda burned out.

Chachee, so glad your pain is gone! I hope your family is feeling better also. Cant wait to see the puppies!

Well better run...still need to iron before bedtime.

Miki

Mindi 09-24-2003 07:46 AM

great miki! why don't you email me at [email protected] and we can discuss arrangments.

best to start w/light weights, the 3lbs will be good til you figure out if you can manage heavier or not.

Chachee, I too can't wait to see pics of those little darlins!! oh is there ANYTHING more cute than a beagle puppy? I don't think so. :)

Suzanne, how goes it for you on the beach???

Chachee 09-25-2003 08:52 PM

Hi Power Gang!

I got my shopping list done for this weekend. I am going to start SBD hopefully Monday if I can get everything.

I need help, though, with figuring out how to pick out an eggplant. I've never cooked/eaten/prepared one, so I have not a clue. Any insights would be wonderful.

I met up with one of my friends from another thread on this site today. She's up here from Georgia to visit her family. I got to meet her and her daughter. They came over to the new house and visited with the puppies and me. It was nice to put a face with a name/comments.

I better scoot. Hope you all have a nice night.

Chach

MikiG 09-25-2003 09:12 PM

Mindi, emailed you my address. Did you get it?

Chachee, how cool you met one of your net friends! The ladies in my other thread are meeting in Chicago in October. I'm not going to get to make it, and I hate that I'll miss out. :( I know they'll have a blast. Sorry I cant help you with the eggplant question. I've only eaten it once or twice in my whole life and have never bought or cooked it myself. I had it fried tho, like squash, but I'm sure that's not the SBD way.

Where's everyone else??:?:

Miki

Mindi 09-26-2003 07:47 AM

yes i got it. :) i hope to get ONE tape off to you today. but if not today, monday for sure. haven't had time to go through all of em and see what you may like but will send TamiLee Webb's I want that body, which is a full body, excellent workout. Hey Power Gang!

Just checking in. Haven't had much time to surf lately. I can't remember if I told you guys, but DH and I are adopting a girl from China. It's gonna take a long time. We were given some info this week that would help cut the wait by about 2-3 months (it would still take a year or so after that), so I've been running/calling around to try to get all our paperwork together. And it's a LOT of paperwork!!!!!

My eating hasn't been great, but I've been getting in my exercise! DH has needed the car for work, so I've been walking to where ever I need to go. yesterday I walked nearly 10 miles. Today will be around 6 miles.

CHACHEE--Glad to hear you're feeling much better. Just don't go full steam ahead and reinjure yourself. Take it easy. I may be joining you in getting back to phase one of the BEACH. I've been pretty bad with my sugar intake this week. I may allow myself some fruit and a bit of milk--just take out all the horrible starches. Can't help you out with the eggplant. I had a bit once and it was a bad experience for me, so I haven't tried it again. That's cool you got to meet an online buddy. I've met someone from another thread and it was nice to be face to face. I've only heard good things about people from this site meeting up.

MIKI and MINDI--The people on this site are just so nice, like you two. Exchanging stuff even when you've never met. It's nice to see how helpful we are to each other.

MIKI--I've heard ankle and wrist weights are not a good thing. Just my 2 cents.

Ok, gotta go scare me up some more paper work!!!!

Have a good weekend everyone!

I'm late this am so will try to post more later...just wanted to say MORNING and that I'll try to get that video out to you today, Miki!

'bad eating' here too, Suzanne. 'hangs head in shame'

Zanne 09-29-2003 07:09 AM

Good Monday Morning Gang

I feel YUCKY this morning! I've done way too much BAD:p eating. Gotta get back to eating healthy again.

I think I'm gonna do a modified version of South Beach phase one. I'm going to allow myself some fruit and a bit of milk. I guess basically I need to cut out the bad starches!

I think I have most of my junk food cleaned out of the house. I'll just have to slap myself when I want to buy some more!

CHACHEE--Are you ready to start South Beach today? Got some hardboiled eggs done to snack on? Did you find some help with your eggplant?

MINDI--C'mon MINDI! We can do this. We all slip up sometimes, we just can't use that as an excuse to keep eating bad.

MIKI--How are you doing?

Better go get the little guy some breakfast. Talk @ you all later!

Chachee 09-30-2003 12:20 AM

Hello Power Gang!

Had my follow up with the doc regarding my sciatica. He is sending me to physical therapy for the next two weeks. He is keeping me on the muscle relaxer and taking me down to Vioxx for the next month. I am feeling better, but he said to just ease back into things.

Started SBD today. I had to have peanut butter with my celery. Didn't care for the Laughing Cow too much. I am full, but still have my snack/dessert for later. I didn't make the ricotta creme, but I did bring the sf jello and the lite Cool Whip for my dessert.

Zanne: Didn't find any help with the eggplant. I guess if that many people have a hard time with it, I'll just need to go online and see how to pick it out and how to cook it. I can sub out veggies anyway with it. My hubby started with me today, but he came home from work and had a mayo and cheese sandwich and then some chips. Guess that doesn't count as a successful day. I need to get my measurements today so I have something to compare it with.

Miki and Mindi: That's cool about the tapes. I can't wait until I am released to do my exercise again.

Well, thats about it from up here.

Chach

Chachee 09-30-2003 09:52 PM

Hello Power Gang!

Alright, so yesterday I did pretty well on SBD. I woke up this morning and recognized the face in the mirror—it was Miss Sabotage!! She took over my body as I stuffed three Oreo cookies in my mouth for breakfast. She left for a little while and I had a healthy salad for lunch, just as set forth in the menu. That b**** came back and fed me an ice cream bar. You think she would have had enough, but then she’s staring me back in the face as I pop spice drops for my afternoon snack.

Why do I do this to myself? I want to lose weight and I want to be healthy. I know it’s not easy, but dang, it shouldn’t be this hard. I guess I really need to look inside myself and discover what the problem is and why Miss Sabotage comes into my life.

I honestly believe the only time she didn’t appear was when I was on WW. I think “diet” makes that part of me appear and be so self-defeating! With WW I didn’t feel deprived and knew I could have something if I wanted it. I could save up for it. I still have all my stuff from WW and am thinking about doing it.

See, I am already writing off SBD. It’s the thought that I “can’t” have something that makes me want it even more. Last night I could have had SF Jello/Cool Whip for dessert. NOPE! Had to have an Oreo. It was the thought that it was on the list of “no’s” instead of “acceptable”.

Am I the only one feeling like this? Why is it so hard for me when I know it’s the right thing to do and want to do it? Some people say fat people are lazy. I don’t believe that. I think overweight people, myself included, are very stressed people. If I was fat because I was lazy, then why don’t I have any time to myself? I’m fat because I can’t control the stress in my life, therefore controlling life, so I can control the food I put in my mouth. Up to this point it’s been bad food, and that’s one thing I need to change. I also need to change my control issues. Use them for a benefit, rather than a derogatory effect.

Sorry I rambled. I needed to share with you ladies and get myself back on track.

Here are my goals for the end of the year:

1. Lose 25 pounds. (I want to lose 50, but 25 is an attainable goal.)
2. Maintain a food log and track what I eat and when.
3. Stay on WW program starting Wednesday, October 1. Weigh-ins on Wednesday and report them here.

Okay, that’s me for today. Any feedback is appreciated. I wish you all the best of luck with each of your goals.

Hi Girls!

Miki, sent a video your way yesterday! Hope you like it!

Zanne, you're right, gotta quit making excuses...I do like Chachee does, I want stuff I shouldn't eat, like bread, pasta, cookies. I'm trying to figure out what makes me crave this stuff so...and its not because I don't KNOW what they do to me, I DO know. I just want them.

Maybe we need a dose of Dr. Phil? In SMALL doses of course..he ranks on my nerves but he DOES have some valid points..I need to GET REAL w/myself and I need to STOP w/the excuses.

We need to take care of ourselves better, nurture and love ourselves and not with food, cause that's not love, its abuse. You're right, Chach, stress IS a bad thing and for me food is medicinal..and I gotta stop thinking that way.

Hang tough everyone..New Taebo in 6 days. Do you realize that looking FORWARD to new exercise is INCREDIBLE for me?? Its a good step towards a goal because before my idea of exercise was to walk from the car to the house!

Big HUGS all around!

Zanne 10-01-2003 12:01 PM

Hey Gang!

Well, at least I've been getting in a little more exercise than usual! I've been walking everywhere I need to go. Luckily we live close to where I need to go, but I must log around 3 miles or more a day.

Well Ladies, here's the next confession! I haven't been doing do great either! I did so well on SBD for the 2 week induction and then WHAMO!!!!! back to the horrid eating again. This morning I just HAD to try all the Halloween treats--chips, cheesies, chocolate bars--I feel horrible. BUT I am now sucking back a healthy fruit smoothie. So we'll take it one mouthful at a time.

We can't give up because we're worth it to be healthy. So we slip up. We just have to get back on that horse and keep riding. As long as we keep getting back up, we're doing GREAT! We are NOT always going to be perfect and we have to stop kicking ourselves when we are not perfect.

ok, enough of the:soap: And would someone please remind ME of what I just said once in a while:^:

CHACHEE-- I found it easier if I didn't have all the no no stuff in the house. Also, I don't like the word "diet". To me it has negative connotations. Instead I use the term "way of eating" or "eating plan". Sometimes if people push stuff on me I just say I'm diabetic and they back off! A little white lie won't hurt. Now I know it says at least once in the SBD book that the plan was created knowing people weren't going to be 100% on plan. It says to have a little indulgence and then go back to eating properly. I couldn't do WW because i'm not good at journaling. I have PCOS and getting rid of the sugar and white starches works best for me. We're all different and we're here to help each other. If you've got a lot to lose, then 25lbs by the end of the year is do-able. We can do a WIW (weigh in Wednesday) here if you like. I missed today so I'll try to start next week. If you need ideas how to get over a hump, come here. We'll try our best. One thing I do if I want chocolate is I make a chocolate flavored coffee. I use brewed coffee. Those mixes are full of sugar and other crap. But that usually helps me. Or have good snacks already cut up in the fridge. Just my 2 cents!

MINDI--I've been watching Dr Phil and his challenge. I may go to his site and check things out. I eat when I'm bored. When I'm stressed, I don't eat at all. That's not good either. I'm sure that sometimes it's our hormones that make us crave stuff. I'm more of a salty, crunchy snack person, but once a month, I want chocolate. Great news you're looking forward to exercising!

MIKI--How are you doing? Hope things are ok with you.

Hey, do you think we should start a new thread? and if so, should be put it into another category? Or should we keep it in "exercise" to keep us motivated to do exercise?

Ok, I've got to go. The inlaws are popping in later. Just found out this morning.

MikiG 10-01-2003 09:48 PM

Hi everybody!

Wow...seems like forever since I was able to post. Missed you all! From Saturday nite til yesterday, I had my 2 yr old neice, Kaylen. I took her home yesterday afternoon. She lives 2 1/2 hrs from here. We had a blast with her, but I couldnt seem to find time to post or walk at all.:^: Time to get on the ball again.

Sounds like all of us are needing to get remotivated. I know I am for sure!! We cant undo all the good we've done this far!!!

I dont have time to reply to everyone's posts right now, but hopefully tomorrow nite I can. Let's all try to have a great active, healthy-eating day tomorrow...one day at a time, we can do it!

Miki

PS...Zanne, I was just thinking the same thing the other day about our thread...probably misleading to other folks who drop in thinking we're discussing Power90.
