Good idea on the personal tri Deva! I'm just about to start training for one in late August - I'm mostly just worried about the swimming - it's a sprint/mini tri - 3.1 run, 13 mile bike, 500m swim.
Glad to know your training is going well defenstrator and Cherry Pie you are CRUSHING it w/ these times/ distances - well done everyone!
Ran a race last night so my official time was 29:17 - 8:22/mile - 3.5 mile race. I'm happy w/the time but it was NOT my best run - I really had to fight myself for every step...just really tired etc.
I've been really tired and a little dizzy/vertigo since Monday so I got some blood work done & am waiting for the results - maybe anemia? We'll see - I do think that affected my run...but feeling ok so far today...
lm3898, weird coincidence about you talking of feeling dizzy and stuff this morning...
I haven't been posting here since last week because I had a little accident and was kind of disapointed about it and what it led to. I fainted last saturday at my friend's place (like, passing out on the floor and everything) and we don,t really know why. the two big hypothesis is iron defiency anemia or sudden low of blood sugar, we don't know. It was the first time happening to me.
So with all this, I was feeling okay after that but not top shape, so I ditched my long run training of Sunday. it was hot and honestly I wasn't feeling safe about going for a 19k run just after fainting.
I started again on tuesday, running a 8k with no interval and another one this morning. They were not the best run ever but it was the morning, I had just wake up and I did not eat before. I hope my long run will be better this weekend.
Im and Turbo: Be careful and watch yourself have it checked out could be just an inner ear thing or low blood sugar...BUT 3yrs ago New Years Eve as heading out to work the night shift I got a little dizzyh next thing I was totally in the spins state EMT came ect and said my vitals were all good but should go into to doctors {1 hr away} TO LONG TO EXPLAIN WHY WORK RELATED LIVED ON A RESORT BUSIEST NIGHT OF YR ECT ....My husband was the boss no one to take me......So I spent the evening on the couch throwing up and having the really bad spins as if I had been drinking. Went to the doctor in the am they diagnosed it as inner ear infection. Gave me something to keep from throwing up........They said it would get better over the next week or two. It did not IMPROVE at all. I kept invesigating what could be wrong saw a ENT specialist he discover a growth on my VESTIBULAR nerve. I spent 6 month feeling drnk and dizzy,I walked that way,I could not concentrate,read,watch tv.drive go to the store ect. I went to physical therapy to retrain my balance that was tottally damaged on ones side. I lived 2 hrs away so it was a 4 hr trip so I made my own PT at home.I work hrs everyday to regain it. I missed 7 months of work, occasionlly now I feel it coming on but because of my training can usually pull out. Going to certain stores,lighting,anxity lots of things can trigger it. It is still growing the tumor BUT slowly,they can remove but its close to the brain and I don't want them to trigger the dizzy thing again.....IT IS HORRIBLE TO LOSE YOUR FREEDOM I would not wish it on anyone. { I looked totally normal it was like it was all in your head!}
Todays triathon....10k followed by 90 min massage,2hrs power shopping. Headeded out on second leg now can't wait!!!!!{one of my birthday presents from a running buddy}
It's super-hilly in my town and I had been running a few different loops, one of them a 4-miler with some impressive hills. Today my mom, who is 66 years old, and I walked it in the time it used to take me to run it.
I'm running 10:30 miles consistently unless going up hills now. It feels good.
devadiva : talk about a triathlon that I would like LOL!
defenestrator : when you get used to run in a hilly place, running in flatter place is soooo easy! I live in a hilly town too and I'm so much more prepared when I go to runs in other cities with people who only trained on the flat... huge advantage!

I woke up bright and early this morning at 6AM to get my run done early, before the heat strike up. I started running around 7H15 and buy 7H45 I was already sweating. It was HOT lol
I did my last long run training for the half, 19k, in 2:10:12 (really happy about it), and I went on the actual route of the race so I can see where there's a hill and everything. Most of them are in the last 1/3 of the race. Blah.
Now official countdown begins : 14 days until the half, next week a taper 11k run in the week and in 2 week, HALF TIME!!
I did 3.5 miles both Wednesday, Thursday and today, and today's run was at 10.13 minutes a mile I know I'm not qualifying for the Olympics any time soon, but when I started in January at 230lbs, I actually had to do the first week for 3 weeks just to be able to handle the 60 seconds of running, so being so close to a ten minute mile made me very, very happy.
On the topic of hills, a few years ago I had been working up to a Thanksgiving day 5k. I had been consistently running 3 miles in a weeks leading up to the race, but I realized the day of the race just how flat where I live is compared to were my mom and dad live (which is where the race was). The hills killed me...I actually had to walk part of the race because of the hills. The hills wouldn't even look that big until half way up them when I thought I was going to need to sit down. Lesson learned...
That's pretty amazing progress, Wild Things! I started running last fall more seriously, but had to put things on hold because of weather for a while in the winter. I was about 235 lbs and am about 225 now. But you've gotten to the point I'm at now in about half the time!
It feels good to run around 10 minute miles, like I'm a real runner now, whereas before I felt so slow it seemed like less of an accomplishment. Now I'm just trying to build distance and a little speed to get ready for the half-marathon in October.
I'm so excited! I just got back from running 9 miles - that's my longest run ever. I took a new route and had to climb 4 really big hills and I still did the 9 in 1:22:53! That's a 9:13 pace!
Made it 8.25 miles this past Saturday- my longest run yet! Avg. 9:30/mile. I bought a running water pack - the trail mix one it's called so that took some getting used to - I kind of wish I'd tried it on a shorter run first but I need it for the long runs so...who knows! I'm so happy to have hit 8 miles. About 12 weeks until my 1/2 marathon so I think I'm in pretty good shape w/ the increasing mileage!
Congrats on your distance Cherry! You are inspirational.
Deva - I think my dizzy-what-not was a fluke or something - It's gone away - I went to the doc, he did bloodwork & it showed my body was fighting a virus so I guess it was a temporary thing...
hey ladies! I ran my last long run training last saturday (19k) and it was great. I managed to hit a 6:50 min/km in 2:10:12. My first half is officially in 12 days from today Wwaaaaaaah!!
