Default Distance tracking?

Does anyone have any advice as to some sites or ways to track the distance you are walking? It's a bit hard for me, even counting blocks as some are small, large, etc. I have also started walking on a dirt country road near the start of town... So I would like to figure out what I am walking.

you could get a pedomiter and then determine what your stride is...then you have distance based on total number of steps...some of the fancier pedomiters will even give you the miles count...I have a fitbit and it gives me a daily step count, mile count and a calories used....which I help to use in my daily planning...but I never did measure my stride so I think I actually walk more than it gives me credit for a mile. takes me takes me at the factory settings about 2500 steps per mile.

I use two apps simultaneously and they both tend to show the same distance so I'm pretty sure they're accurate. Mapmyrun and Nike+. I used to use the mapmyrun.com website before I had a smart phone, you can just create your route on it and it'll give you a distance. I really like it.

Before I moved on to a Garmin watch, I used Runkeeper. IME, it was the most accurate app I used. I like the format/features of Nike+ the best, but on a open trail (no tree cover) in the middle of town, it isn't accurate. On my 4 mile run Thurs, I wan Nike+ with my Garmin, and it said I ran 4.8 miles compared to the 4 my Garmin said. (I know it was 4, since the mileage is marked on the trail. I just like my pace data. )

I've used www.mappedometer.com , it uses google maps and you can see if other people in your area have saved routes.
