  • Anout 3 days a week maybe 4 for 3 1/2 miles once a week 5, I don"t do any walk breaks {which I have been reading about} just started running in late Oct, I am old but in pretty good shape finished, my last {race} 5k in 32;34 so I am not fast! And I only run on dirt or trail.I do have a foam rollar but only know the one on the side will look for others today after DH leaves for work.
  • That all sounds pretty good. I'd also recommend a massage stick, you can get them at Walmart. I like it cause I can lay on the couch and massage the IT and TFL for a lot longer than I can do the roller.
  • Finished W2D1 of E210K today. Felt my IT get a bit tight at the end which is probably because I've been walking on off days. Need to get back to rest days actually being rest days.
  • ncuneo Headed on a trip and will be getting by a walmart on the trip so will pick one up actually bought one as a gift a few weeks ago for my runner friend who got me started! I live in the Easten sierras and the towns are really small only 400 in my town and its the county seat. I am flying out of Vegas to see the GKs {4 HR DRIVE SO WILL GO TO WALMART BEFORE PLANE RIDE} tHANK YOU FOR ADVICE!!!!
  • ncuneo: this is a bit late, but I LOVED your story about the bogus, lightning speed, marathon running co-worker.

Her lies are SO beyond crazy that I would question whether she actually ever has run in a marathon at all.
  • Just got back from a 4 mile run. My left knee didn't start hurting until I stopped..icing it now.

Decided I am going for a half-marathon in May, so I'm trying to increase my distance on one run a week. I've read different types of training schedules..some of them recommend 6 days/week, which I know I can't commit to with work and family. As it is I'll have to move most of my weekday runs to the treadmill since there's so little daylight now and my neighborhood has no streetlights...

ncuneo, did you try looking up her time online? I must admit I've done this in the past...
  • Indiblue - I want to do actual HIIT, though to be honest I'm not sure if that's what I'm doing. Does that make sense? I'm sprinting for 1 minute (my absolute fastest, oh-god-I'm-not-going-to-make-it speed) and then walking for 2 minutes, and repeating. And yes, I'm doing it for 15-20 minutes. It *feels* like what I've read that they're supposed to feel like. So hopefully, even if I'm doing this wrong, they'll help my speed/endurance.

I've finished planning my half-marathon training plan which I'm going to start in January. Eek! I'm going to run a couple more 5 and 10Ks before I do it. It'll happen around April or May. I want to get used to the distance first.

And I had a really great workout over the weekend. I drove up to the national park near where I live. There's ~3 mile trail that's flat-ish and goes around a mountain which I jogged, then it goes back ~3.5 miles over the mountain which I hiked. I do most of my running inside and it was so nice to go outside and run instead.
  • Una/Nat - I haven't looked her up and I'm still trying to get to the bottom of it LOL, not really. I think I may have misheard her...maybe she said 2:50 - which is still ridiculous!

Nat - IMO running 6 days a week is WAY too much, especially if you're injury prone. 4 days would be fine and there a tons of training programs at that level. There are also 3 day programs, marathon training academy has a free one. I've just dropped to 3 days a week with extra cross training and am LOVING it! That's just my 2 cents.

6 miles today, decent run. Like I mentioned I am LOVING running 3 days a week instead of 4. It just makes my runs more efficent and I really enjoy each one. It also allows more time for spinning and yoga. I'm also seeing my weight dropping, but that may be due to some tighting of my diet and more veggie days, but whatever - I LOVE it! I was all the way back up to 155, but am now back down to 148 and still dropping...not sure what the end goal is there, but I think I'm just looking for a lifestyle that is sustainable and where ever my weight ends up is fine.

6 miles of Hills Friday...ugh...then 12 on Sunday! Happy running!
  • Did no one run this week LOL!

So today was a 12 miler, but I was kicking some serious pacing a$$ so I stuck with it and did 13.5! I hit the half marathon mark at 2:06!!! That's a new PR for me and I'm beyond thrilled! My dream is to break 2 hours on a half some day. So that was supposed to be my last long run under a half marathon besides cut back weeks until my marathon. It's getting serious now!
  • I didn't run this week! Intentionally. I'm going to try to go at least another week without running to really give my knee a legitimate break.

    Congrats, ncuneo on your PR!!!
  • It's been a crazy week, but I did week 6 of c25k last week and today I completed w7d1!! It was brutal, and I have blisters on my feet But I did it!
  • ncuneo- Congrats on your PR!

tidiprincess- Way to go on W7. Keep it up.

I ran today and finished up week 2 of E210K. A major town near me has decided to hold their first marathon ever. I am sorely tempted to sign up for the half marathon section but I just started E210K and I am very very slow. Will think about it some more. Not like I don't have time. The marathon is not until June.
  • Hi all! Just checking in.... this month I've been inside on the treadmill, because I hate hate hate the cold. Today the temp got up to 40 and it was sunny so I decided to venture out. I had a fabulous run! 4.6 miles total. I run SO much faster outside without even trying outside over the treadmill - it's weird.

I set a goal to run 60 miles in the time from Thanksgiving through New Years. So far I've run 70 so I way surpassed that goal.

    Happy running all!
  • Cherry congrats on surpassing your goal!

Ran for the first time in two weeks today. Did an easy 40 minutes. Felt nice, no knee pain. I liked running without a time or distance goal- felt good.
  • Merry Christmas everyone!

My runs the last few days have been just ok, somewhat painful and lethargic, but getting my training in. Did 6, 6 and 7 today. It was supposed to be an 8 mile cutback run today, but I just wasn't feeling it. WAY too much junk food in my system. Oh well. Can't wait to get these holidays out of the way and my nutrition back on track!

So I hit one of my major goals for the year, I hit 1000 miles today, 1003 to be exact, and a week to spare. All I wanted to do this year is run 1000 miles and maintain my weight and other than the few lbs I gained and am now losing, I've done both!

Hope everyone's holiday was good and I look forward to a new year and a new thread soon!
