GGirl - I think your question just comes down to personal preference and geographic location. Personally, I live in SoCal so winter is my running season, I rarely see temps under 30 and I never see snow. So I prefer to have my training cycles in the winter. The summer on the otherhand bring me night time temps of 90 degrees so I sometimes avoid training in the summber, did do a half marathon last August, so I'm begining to train year round. That said most runner do have "seasons" of more running and less running. It just depends on your goals, upcoming races, injuries, etc. So my advice would be to find what is comfortable for you.
I can certainly relate to having run before the family is up, that is when I run too. My alarm is set for 4am on run days and that often isn't early enough, especially during the heart of a training cycle. I don't have a lot of advice here other than try to plan plan plan so that you can get to be early enough to get enough rest for those early runs or try to find other times that work for you to run. IMO sometimes ok to say DH please watch the kids on a Sunday so I can go run, that my "me" time and I think we could all use a little of that.
Good 6 mile easy run today, it was about 35 but I think I was dressed for 25 so I got a little warm. I agree, dressing for cold weather is tough...good run though. I'm really enjoying my move to 3xs a week running, although less days means more milage on the days I do run and I miss those nice little 3 milers, but I think the payoff will be worth it. Got a 6 mile tempo run Friday and a 10 miler Saturday. Training is getting a little tougher and I'm only about 1/3 of the way in, so I'm a little nervous to get into new territory with my milage, but exited.
Happy running everyone!

My goal for December is to add HIIT to my running 1-2 times a week, and to run 3-5 times a week total. Has anyone tried the HIIT? Did they help your endurance or speed at all?
