Default Calories and Zumba

Hello All,
I am sure this has been discussed previously, but a quick search didn't provide any info.

Approximately of course, how many calories are burned in an hour of Zumba? The interweb said about 500 for an hour for a 150 lb person.

Thoughts?

I was drenched with sweat and I am definitely feeling it this morning in the waist and hips so I plant to continue...I am just looking for a general calories expended estimate.

Cheers!

Default zumba calories

I weigh around 155lbs. and wear a heart rate monitor when I exercise. After doing zumba each week I usually have burned between 500-640 calories in an hour. When I first began I burned closer to 700 calories in an hour of zumba.

It's going to be different for every person, even if they are all at the same weight, due to levels of fitness, energy level that day, how much you put into the workout, how often you've done it before, etc. Since I'm new to zumba, I burn between 700 and 800 calories for each class (60 minutes long, and last time I did it I weighed 169 lbs). I ended up buying a heart rate monitor that, while not perfectly accurate, is internally consistent, so I can at least see my relative energy expenditure for various tasks, even if in reality I may have burned 100 calories more or less than the watch says I did. It might be something for you to consider for yourself if it's important to you.
