I ran today!

  • I run on occasion but I'm usually too intimidated to run at the gym. I want to start running 5k's and half marathons more often though. Today I got on the treadmill at the gym and told myself I was going to stay on it for the whole 45 minutes and not give up. I pushed myself just to see how far I could go. I so wanted to get off but I didn't! I ended up running/ walking 3.25 miles. I walked at a 4.0 and ran at about a 5.3. I decided to see really how fast I could run and ended up at times running at a 6.0. I was so proud of myself. I didn't go long at a 6.0 because my mind started to take over and I told myself I couldn't do it. Now I know how fast I can really go and if I can go that fast why not?? Just thought I would share my victory with you guys
  • That's really fantastic! It's awesome that you pushed yourself so far, and then discovered that you can do it!

    Congratulations!
  • That is great! I am so glad you pushed yourself and your post encouraged me to do the same. I really want to run but I get terrible shin splints. Tomorrow I made an appointment with a locally owned running store for an evaluation and shoe recommendation. I hope that works!
  • ShanIAm- I find that I get shin splints when I run anywhere but the treadmill. I get terrible side stitches so that is what keeps we from doing my best at times.

Thanks guys Your posts are keeping motivated to do it again on wednesday!
  • ShanIAm, it's amazing what proper running shoes can do! I was running in a pair of 5 year old cross trainers. They were a) not made for my foot type, b) not running shoes, and c) so old they were falling apart. I couldn't figure out why I got such horrible shin splints and knee pain.

I did my research (though probably should have gone your route with the consultation) found the right kind of shoes for my foot, and I am pain free when I run! Granted, I'm still working on the breathing part of it, but with the shoes, my body can go a lot further than my lungs! I think you'll be amazed at the difference it makes.

Princess of the KING, congrats! I too am intimidated to run in the gym. Kudos to you for overcoming that!
  • Congrats! You inspire me and I hope to one day ba able to post something of the sort.
  • whooo hooooo!
  • Thanks guys I went to the gym again this morning and took a class! I'm feeling empowered lately! I love how great I feel after a workout!
  • WONDERFUL! That's SOOO inspirational to those of us [ME] who haven't ran in years..LoL.. You go girl!
  • Wow! I am really impressed. Just watch that you don't push it too far. Your heart and lungs will be ready for running before the rest of you is. That's how injuries happen. It feels like you're ready, but it's easy to injure yourself.

Still, I'm impressed. I ran my first time out at 5.0. I ran one mile and thought I was going to die! I ended up backing off on speed and it took me a long time to build up to 5.3 and I'm still working on 6.0.
  • That is sooo good! I also never run, I usally do a brisk walk about 3.6 on the treadmill. 6.0 is super good!!
  • Congratulations! That is super great!
    Keep going!
