The Post-Workout Thread!

The purpose of this thread is to have a place to complain or celebrate your efforts directly after a work out when you're still sweaty and tired :D

I'm SO tired! I was on the elliptical for 25 minutes at 60 rpm and went 2.15 miles. That's a new record for me! I haven't broken the 2 mile mark in running or the elliptical yet, so hurray!!

My lower legs and, kind of, my ankles are a little sore. Not horribly, but it feels good to be off them. I think it's a good kind of sore though. Yesterday I did C25k W3D1 and it really put some pressure on my ankles (it didn't really hurt at the time, but it hurts now when I put all my weight on it. I think it just needs a little time to recover.)

homiegiiib 06-26-2010 06:29 PM

I love this! I'll be posting here often :)

3fcuser1058250 06-27-2010 08:15 AM

Great idea!! I'll post later, I haven't decided if I'm going to run or bike yet.... Decisions, decisions

Wild Vulpix -- Maybe icing your ankle would help after your run/workout....

saef 06-27-2010 10:15 AM

I'm holding off showering for another 10 minutes or so, just so I can post on this thread with some kind of integrity.

I spent an hour with dumbbells this morning, then took a 45-minute spin class at 9 AM. As usual, after spin class, I am soaked. Like a trapdoor opened in a ceiling over my bike & a pailful of water tipped over up there & splashed all over me below.

What I really wanted to do this morning was sit on my patio with a glass of iced coffee & the Sunday Times. Well, I could still do that. Theoretically. Problem is, I don't have a mellow feeling anymore. I'm energized like the bunny & want to go out grocery shopping & do other errands. Then probably I'll start cooking for the coming week, watching really bad TV while standing up & dicing vegetables. (Preferably a really stupid movie. It might have Reese Witherspoon in it or something.)

Oh, well. Let me revisit the idea of lounging with that newspaper maybe later this afternoon ....

Desert Agave 06-27-2010 01:23 PM

I love reading about other people's workouts. Great job all of you!

I'm back from a 22 mile bike ride, my longest yet. When my husband and I left we weren't actually sure how long our planned loop would end up being. I was guessing 25-30 miles and I was a little nervous about if I could do it or not. But, as it turns out the loop wasn't as long as I thought, and I feel fine, like I could do another 10 miles easy. I rode using clipless pedals for the second time, too, and didn't even have one close call. The first time I used them this Thursday I had at least 5 almost falls.

skygirl 06-27-2010 11:55 PM

i was going to start a fitness accountability thread for myself because i think i need that to help me stay on plan, but then i saw this thread, so i'd like to post here. i'm doing the couch25k training and i'll be posting in another thread about that specifically, but i'm also going to be doing weights and other things too so i will come here to post about those.

Luna1982 06-28-2010 02:04 AM

So I ALMOST didn't work out at all today, but finally bit the bullet at 11:45 p.m. and got on the treadmill. I figured that doing it would be much better than the guilt that would follow if I skipped. So 45 minutes of fast walking, followed by nice shower. I am gonna sleep well to...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

mandalinn82 06-28-2010 02:13 AM

This weekend was one giant, unconventional workout.

Saturday - probably 5-6 hours of landscaping, including lots of hauling of debris, carrying plants, digging holes, planting trees and vines, raking, etc. Then we did about an hour and half of housepainting to paint over the wall we had to re-drywall due to a roof leak.

Today - more trees in the ground, hauled junk to dump, and repaired sprinkler system, which required both digging AND a lot of squats.

All in all, about 4000 calories worth of hard manual labor over two days (in 100+ degree heat, no less) And now I am going to shower and get in bed.

chnkymonkey 06-28-2010 11:40 AM

I like this thread.

This morning - 5am came way too early. (diving and boating yesterday wiped me out!). But I met my workout partner for a garage run. We ran up a parking garage (3 stories) around the top and down - 4 times. Then met back at the top for suicide sprints across the top - 4 times.

I was back home by 6:45am, showered, layed back down and went back to sleep until 7:45 when my phone rang. (I should have been on the road to work by then!)

My HRM/GPS only registered burning 400 cals. But after yesterdays dives (1200 cals) and boating, my body is just whooped.

Kind of feels like it defeats the purpose to workout then nap immediately after. I could have slept in and gotten up at a decent time and probably had the same net calorie affect.

cherylmn 06-28-2010 11:50 AM

Oh how I HATED my alarm clock this morning. But, I put my feet on the floor & just said to myself "no excuses - get up." So I did.

I am not a runner. I have never been a runner. I am pushing 40, and have never run 1 mile outside & only accomplished 2.25 on the treadmill in the last month.

But today, I ran for 1.7 miles OUTSIDE in the beautiful, cool, morning air. It was blissful! I loved it and wish I'd have known how far I'd gone to round it to an even 2 miles.

I completed 15 minutes of circuit training on my own without rest - pushups, tricep dips, and primarily core strengthening. And closed it down with some conventional stretching & a few feel-good yoga poses.

I feel great. I feel strong. I cannot WAIT to do more...and I will remind myself of it again tomorrow when I am pushing snooze on my alarm !

This thread is a great idea. I just got done with a 3 mile run, and I've got mixed emotions. I'm REALLY hot and sweaty, and STARVING and thirsty (I'm currently shoving raw broccoli, carrots and cucumbers down my throat between typing), my legs and feet hurt, but I'm also pretty happy because according to CardioTrainer, I had my FASTEST pace ever today of 10:32 per mile. Also, during my run at one point I was running at a pace of 8:32 seconds/mile (I love technology, so motivating). I'm pretty stoked on myself and proud, but also not looking forward to the strength training and yoga I've planned for myself (it's my day off of work, I train hard on those days :)

3fcuser1058250 06-28-2010 12:11 PM

Such great best everyone :woohoo:

cherylmn -- Never too late to start running I started at 48, I'm now 53 and love running... I don't run fast or far but I run 3-4x/week :D ...

Desert Agave -- 22 mile bike ride wow...

Yesterday I did 20k bike ride, not sure what the conversion is but I know it's a lot less than 22 miles  ... I had an hour break, may even have taken a nap in there ;), I don't mind napping after a workout I do it all the time, time permitting... then DD and I went rollerbladding for 10k... Great day all in all, it was also a great food day :hun:

mandalinn82 06-28-2010 12:36 PM

Just finished 60 min on my treadmill. Will do 30 minutes of cardio-boxing on my lunch break later.

Wild Vulpix 06-28-2010 05:27 PM

I REALLY didn't want to go to the gym today. I never want to on my weight days because... I don't know. There's no "finish line" and it makes it much less fun. Once I'm there and doing it, it's not so bad, but I never know what part I'm going to focus on until I get there. I don't know.

Tomorrow is C25k W3D3 and I'm not looking forward to it :( I had such a hard time doing W3D2. My legs really hurt toward the end of it. Hopefully they'll recover today. I have NO idea how I'm going to accomplish W4D1! Running for just 3 minutes two times feels like an eternity. There's only 9 minutes of running in Week 3, which is about the same as Week 2 and Week 1... but Week 4 jumps from just 9 minutes of running to 16!!! I have no idea how I'll be able to do it!!!

3fcuser1058250 06-28-2010 06:35 PM

Ahhh, I walked with my client this afternoon and it was hot, the AC feels good!! She's been off for 5 weeks, she hurt her ankle on Mother's day and hasn't been walking much less running since then, so she was really happy of her walk... In a couple of weeks we will be starting run/walk intervals..... I'm pooped and drained but will be going to the gym in about 20 mins... need an upper body workout :strong:

Desert Agave 06-28-2010 07:51 PM

Ilene, last year I never would have thought I'd be doing 22 mile bike rides. As it turns out it isn't that bad though. Almost no hills, for one, other than a doozy right at the end.

I just finished up my workout for the day. I did a strength workout with my trainer. He seemed especially fond of different variations on squats and lunges today, so my legs are tired. Then after I did 45 minute of cardio. Usually on Mondays I use the elliptical, but I've been getting bored of it lately. So instead I split my time between the stairmill and the rowing machine. The stairmill certainly isn't boring! Hard though. The rowing machine is fun but I'm not sure it got my heart rate up that much. Oh well. The stairmill took care of that.

3fcuser1058250 06-28-2010 09:01 PM

Just back from a great chest workout... :strong:

YOU CAN DO IT! Dig deeper, push harder and you will make it.

Or just run for 10 minutes instead of the 16 and work yourself up, gear the workout to your needs...

UrthWurm 06-29-2010 11:21 AM

Worked out yesterday for an hour or two. Just random stuff. Dancing to music, kickboxing, jump-roping, etc. Was also planning on doing a workout video with my sweetie when he got off work, but we had a friend come over so it didn't happen. I'm still really proud of myself for just getting up and moving! :D

mandalinn82 06-29-2010 11:50 AM

50 min incline trainer - complete.

20 min of boxing and 50 min of weights to go!

Desert Agave 06-29-2010 01:28 PM

This morning I went on an 11 mile bike ride, then sat around for about an hour in my sweaty bike clothes, and then ran/walked a 5K loop around my neighborhood. My legs were tired, so I did more walking than I wanted to. On the good side though, I ran the first mile in 10:40, which is my fastest mile ever. Usually I only run a 12 minute mile.

Trust me, I know how you feel! I can tell you though that I found W3D3 to be easier than W3D2, which was very hard, like you said.

I just got home a little while ago from running W4D1, so I can tell you how I did with that. It really isn't as bad as it sounds, even though it really does look like a huge leap from where W3 leaves you off. Just try not to give yourself a huge mental block about it - I figured out in W3 that having those mental blocks makes it SO much harder than it really is... So go in telling yourself you absolutely CAN do it, and chances are you'll surprise yourself and it really will work out. ;) And don't forget - You can always slow your running pace! From time to time I find I have to if I'm going to keep going for an entire interval! I don't really *run* to begin with, I jog... And sometimes I slow my pace to something that feels to me like slightly exaggerated walking, although I'm probably moving a little faster than that!

The point is, you CAN do this. I believe in you.

Another quick note about my run, was that I managed to break the 2 mile mark for the first time since I started C25K today! :carrot: I feel AWESOME!

bnorah 06-29-2010 01:38 PM

I saw this thread and couldn't help but post. I've been waking up at 5am everyday this week and hitting the gym with the roommate for 25 mins. Yesterday I crashed hard at 10am when I got to work. Today I seem to have somewhat more energy.

The next two days are going to be a struggle for me big time. I have to work at my part time job tonight and tomorrow night, so getting home and in bed at 11pm, then back up at 5a is going to be tough. But I'm gonna push through it and see what happens. Wish me luck to get in 5 days of workout activity!

UrthWurm 06-29-2010 09:15 PM

Went swimming with a friend today for 3 1/2 hours!!
Had a lot of fun and got a great workout, but I'm freckled & red now. :o

motivated chickie 06-29-2010 09:36 PM

Ran for 35 minutes today with a distance of 3.7 miles. I haven't run in a week and it felt good getting back to it. Wonder if I'll be sore tomorrow? :)

saef 06-29-2010 09:38 PM

Today is one of my work-from-home days & I was up fairly early, so I tried something different. I went to the gym twice, once in the morning, at 7 AM, to lift dumbbells, and then again in the evening, for my 7:30 PM spin class, for which I'd reserved a bike ahead of time. These workouts were nice bookends for my working day, helping to wake me up in the morning and then to work off tension at the end of the day. Usually I think it's more efficient for me to spend two hours consecutively at the gym, but I thought I'd play around, just to see if there was a difference. I can get so rigid about my schedule that I have to do something like this now & then, just to retain some kind of mental flexibility, which I think is important for someone with my history & my love of structure, order & sameness.

Desert Agave 06-30-2010 06:41 PM

Just back from a strength workout with my trainer. It was a little harder than usual, and my arms in particular are feeling kind of shaky and weak. At one point he had me doing step-ups with a twenty pound jug of water in each hand. I was huffing and puffing from doing them with that extra weight. Then it occurred to me that when I first started working out with him I was carrying twice that amount of weight on my body. No wonder I used to dread step ups!

BellaBrown 06-30-2010 09:04 PM

So this was my first day in the gym and let me say it was a big fat fail!

I joined the Triple Fat Burner class at my gym and I lasted all of 20 minutes :( :( I'm so disappointed in myself! I then proceeded to get on the elliptical for 3 minutes!! I just got so flustered I could not think straight.

My boyfriend hyped me up to go tomorrow (he goes to the gym up the block from mine) though so I'm not off the horse. I have learned the error of my ways, well some of them at least. Here's what I will do different.

-When the class begins to get too hard take a 60 second break instead of trying to keep up with everyone else.
-When I hit the plateau where I really just want to drop I will leave the class and take 5 minutes to compose myself then instead of doing MORE cardio do a little training which is much easier for me for some reason.
-My goal tomorrow is to make 30 minutes in the class.

With me luck ladies !! -fingers & toes crossed-

3fcuser1058250 06-30-2010 09:29 PM

Bella, don't be so hard on yourself, we all start somewhere  just keep at it and eventually you'll bet better and fitter...

Today I walked with my client, she hurt her ankle on Mother's day and hasn't run since so we started this week with walking, she did very well... so we walked fast for 50 mins. ... Tonight I went to the gym and did a whole body workout for 30 mins, it wasn't long but it was intense...

BellaBrown 07-01-2010 08:19 AM

Thank you Ilene! I know this time is different, I'm determined to get this weight off but I have to realize "slow and steady wins the race"...

bunnythesAINT 07-01-2010 03:47 PM

Today was my first day of exercising after getting my stitches taken out. It was hard lol. I had to take a break in the middle of my workout because I was so beat. But I finished! And I am happy of that.

beth4365 07-01-2010 03:51 PM

YAY us!!!

60 minutes of cardio today and 30 minutes of weight stuff.

wOOt!

mandalinn82 07-01-2010 04:11 PM

Done - 30 min UB/abs, 45 min intense incline training. Planning to do doubles today and run 5k later.

TheBunneh 07-01-2010 06:49 PM

Just finished my workout. Yay! And now I'm eating my snack of banana and half tbls of peanut butter. :D

I did Turbo Jam Cardio party remix Live, but skipped the cool down, so aprox 25 minutes there. Then Tammilie Webb's tight on time step workout, 10 minutes, plus about 4 minutes of misc low impact aerobics moves to let my heart rate lower. Followed by Mel B Totally Fit bums section, 10 minutes (OH MY GOODNESS I was in pain, lol). And of course some stretching after, but I didn't time it.

So, all in all, about 50 minutes or so. And to think I almost made to day a rest day! :dizzy:

mandalinn82 07-01-2010 06:51 PM

Did my 5K in sprint intervals. Yay for doubles and double the afterburn!

So gross and sweaty now, though.

celigirl88 07-01-2010 06:54 PM

I was perfectly fine after my workout but now my legs are totally killing me. I feel like I ran a marathon!! My arms also hurt to from doing some push ups when I came home.

homiegiiib 07-01-2010 06:57 PM

Ok, I got on that treadmill, and I walked. 3.19 miles in 70 minutes, no break. First thing I notice, my legs and feet are incredibly sore (still are). I did also walk this morning and then go to work. I wanted to walk a little longer. I definitely felt it this time.

There is something I love about exercise though. I exercised before I went to work. Instead of being tired, and wanting to go home right when I arrive... I was actually pumped, happy, and very energetic! Exercise is a better mood booster for your day than any type of drug out there I believe!

skygirl 07-02-2010 07:11 PM

i can finally return to this thread and say that i exercised! yes!

first time since starting my new health and wellness lifestyle last sunday.

i did the treadmill for 30 minutes. i tried jogging a bit towards the end. think i need a better bra. (giggle) :)

i didn't jog for much time at all, but it felt good, and i am excited! yes! i did it! (ok, all you seasoned exercisers can laugh now at my goofy exuberance :))

Desert Agave 07-02-2010 07:25 PM

Skygirl, way to go!

I'm back from my workout -- strength training with my trainer and then 45 minutes on the treadmill. I did more walking than I wanted to, but did run a little over two miles. The problem with getting on the treadmill after my other workout is that my legs are already dead from all the squats and lunges that I've done. Oh well. I still had fun with it.
