I went outside and went for a 3 mile jog... Well jogged 3/4ths of the way, and walked the rest. I felt guilty about not running the whole way like I know I can do, so when I got inside I popped in the biggest loser bootcamp for about 25 minutes, gave up on the 2nd segment.
|
Just back from a 50 minute bike ride, it's very hot out humidex of 34c/93f outside... I feel a bit drained but the fact that I am a bit hungover isn't helping either
|
How I love the gym on a holiday like this, when it's still open but only a few of us are there. I can have the whole mirrored studio to myself with my weight bench & I can put all the different weights I'm using around it without being rude to anyone, because no one else wants them. (They were all on the cardio machines, except for one older woman doing extremely light weights.) I take my time. I try new stuff. (This time, a 40-lb barbell instead of the usual 30-lb.) And I'm happy afterward. Whatever else the day brings to me, I got in my workout. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the place is beautifully airconditioned, and it's 93 degrees out there right now.
|
I'm back from a 26 mile bike ride with my husband. I wasn't in the mood to go at all. No, I just wanted to stay home and sit in my comfy chair. But, I went, and had a great time. Now I feel like I really earned that lunch I'm about to make. Tofu sandwich here I come!

thanks desertagave! :)
did the treadmill today for 30 minutes. fourth day in a row. |
I did the treadmill for 40 minutes at 3.5 speed today and I just about died.... but I feel great right now!
|
Hip Hop Abs video yesterday & a short walk. I was so pumped up from that workout, I wanted to do a Jillian Michael's vid too, but I'm glad I refrained. My back muscles / glutes are going "ow, ow, OW" today. Lol!
|
I did it! I did it! I did it!
There were several time during that workout I thought I was going to give up but I didn't. :D And I'm soooo glad to be done, lol. 30 minutes step aerobics, 40 minutes turbo jam. |
I mixed walking and jogging with my dog for about 40mins total
|
People said today, "It's officially 100 degrees outside today in Central Park. Why are you going to the gym?"
Heh. Because it's an ice palace. And there's a lot of cold water there freely available. And towels. And because my gym is much better air-conditioned than my apartment, which is a prewar & thus hasn't got the ductwork for central air. The gym was really busy. Lots of people had cabin fever & had to go somewhere. And some of those who work out outside maybe saw all those air quality warnings about the ozone & decided they'd better not get their runs in at the park after all. |
Hip Hop Abs vid today with my sweetie. We were going to go swimming as well (our apt. has a pool), but unfortunately they were closed today for construction on the fence which surrounds the pool. Hope to go tomorrow.
|
I'm a sweaty icky mess, but I feel awesome. ^________^
1 hour step cardio and weight intervals, followed by yoga. |
I had fun with my workouts today. Spent some time in the pool this morning, and am just back from a strength workout with my trainer. He introduced me to jump squats today which are very... jumpy. And hard.
|
WOO HOO!!! I ran (well, jogged) 2.45 miles this morning in about 27.5 minutes. That is a new record for me...and I feel like a rock star :D :D :D
Finished up with a short cool down, then pushups, tri dips, and core work. I had to get up at 4:50am to get this done so my hubby could leave for work by 6:00. I really thought about skipping it, but decided I'd be kicking myself all day if I didn't push through. So I did. And I'm glad. And I cannot believe I'm running OUTSIDE!!! Really empowering - especially after I mapped my run to see how far I went ;) Congrats on all the successes!! So fun to see how everyone is pushing themselves to do more than we all thought was possible. |
cherylmn :cheer:
|
cherylmn Great job! That's some awesome commitment, getting up at 4:50. I can barely get at 5:50 to make my husband breakfast, let alone workout. Good for you! :carrot:

I'm so glad I found this thread! I've been so pumped about my workouts lately that I'm just dying to share!
I am doing an Insanity/half marathon training combo. This morning I planned to go on a 3 mile run. It was raining which I just LOVED but a mile into it, it started pouring so hard I couldn't see well, so I went home. I finished the next 2 miles on the treadmill which was so BORING!!! I can't believe I used to prefer it. Tonight I'll finish my workout with a Cardio Recovery workout from Insanity. |

Yesterday I tried to do that Walk away the Pounds 3 mile exercise video, and failed! I was so sore from the last few days of workout that I couldn't even complete that. Never mind the fact that I had to get ready to leave to go run errands anyways! I got through about 1/2 a mile before I packed it in, and went to do my hair/makeup.
I'd like to say I went swimming at the lake with some friends, but it was more like standing waist deep in very cold water, trying not to simultaneously melt & freeze! It was 95 degrees out, so very hot, but the water was what had melted from the mountains, so it was very cold. I was a bit shocked & just kind of stood there. Lol! Still had a ton of fun, and thankfully didn't get sunburned again! |
I lugged around a heavy messenger bag filled with doorknob hangers and passed them out for 2 hours in the hot sun. It was almost non-stop power walking, with loads of hills. AND I got paid $20. Weeeee.
Hmmm, it was pretty humbling thinking about how impossible that would have been a year or two ago. |
I had such a busy day today, but I just managed to squeeze in a 10 minute cardio kickboxing workout and a 4 minute stretching workout. I feel better!
|
I just came back from running-- I'm NOT COPING with the heat and humidity. I have a big old stomach ache, and feel like I'm going to puke. The only upside, these hot runs are killing my appetite.
|
ok, so i was looking for an exercise accountability thread. I remember when I was younger. I was so motivated to stay fit. I did crunches during commercials, and loved interval running late at night or early in the day.
here I am NEEDING to lose weight. And it can't come off fast enough! So i thought why not whenever i get bored, want to snack, type feeling--just do a mini workout. i mean in addition to my planned exercise. So I just did 15 each of crunches, lower ab crunches, plank with alternating kicks, and side planks. plus a few modified push ups. i had already done an arm/abs routine earlier w/ weights...so I just focused on the same muscles. I am starting with 20 min 3x week goal. I don't know if i will do 2 cardio, 2 strength though. I've always favored strength. my shoulders and arms are pretty sore...but that's the point. I work whatever i've got to exhaustion. |
Did a TON today.
This morning, I walked my dog for an hour, for a total of 2.6 miles. This afternoon, I did 35 min/5K of sprint intervals...2 min at 4mph fast walk, 1 min sprint at 9-9.5mph. Followed that with a 35 min interval hill walk workout. Then tonight, I did an hour of water aerobics, and then two freestyle laps to cool down. |
My goodness, this heat. Makes hour long workouts drag on forever. Mom suggested I workout with the A/C on since the fan is circulating hot air. Can't because no matter what I'm FREEZING and totally distracted from the frigid A/C.
Ugh, can't win...ever... |
I'm just back from my 5K loop around the neighborhood. This is only the second time I've managed to run the whole thing with no walking breaks. It was hard, but I feel great now.
|
ok, this isn't exactly post workout, but I have had time to reflect. I rolled out of bed today, knowing I had a busy schedule. It was 9:15 am. I had an appt. at 11:30 am, and also had tons of errands to complete. I got up, drank a little bit of breakfast shake, and set up the wii...and ran for 20 min. I felt so invigorated. I run on my rebounder, so it is not jolting to my body. I know the wii remote is sensitive, so i put it on my leg/shin. I found i couldn't just shake the wii remote to go faster--so it was more life like with the pace. i did 4.020 miles. But i really pushed it during intervals to get the number. I felt really good afterwards. then i jumped in my pool and laid in the water to relax. When i was done with that--off I went to fulfill my errands! i felt energized, and like i had seized the day.
Today, i am sore from my ab workout, but i recognize that as a good thing. i love reading how exercise makes everyone feel. I don't know if I will get to the point where I can do an hour in one sitting--but i like hearing how good it makes others feel. |

I just finished Pure Cardio and Cardio Abs from the Insanity workouts. I feel so great! I remember I used to dread Pure Cardio. I can now do most of the workout. I surprised myself today during Cardio Abs. Last time I did this particular DVD was Monday and I could barely do the ab exercises. Today, I could do most of them. |
Just went for a 70 minute brisk walk around the neighborhood
|
I'm back from 45 minutes in the pool. I practiced my breaststroke and my freestyle. I'm still not very good at either, but I'm starting to notice slow improvements. I'll figure out this swimming thing yet!
|
yay, agave, i love swimming. it's so relaxing, and can really be a good cardio workout.
Today's theme is LEGS: I am going to work them as many times as I think about it. i did a 20 minute session. with the following. I did not do sets though. lunges with weights in hands-20 (alternating) around the clock: front lunge into a side squat, into a back lunge.-10 each leg. one legged squats-to exhaustion.--not very good, and boy howdy they hurt. cross over leg raises-15 each leg up the stairs sideways, down the stairs-5 steps, 5 times each leg. giant squats-sumo style raise leg, lower into squat-15 each leg. standing leg kick backs (hams)-15 each leg ballet leg raises-15 each leg calf raises-30. some side to side shuffling to keep the heart rate up in between exercises. i did this with a pretty good heart rate of 135 so i used circuit training to get a cardio boost. if any one wants a description of these, i'm not good with the names, let me know! i began and ended with some stretching--and then jumped in my pool. I love that after getting so hot! |
Hip Hop Abs Ab Sculpt video with my sweetheart today.
Then we went for a dip in the pool. Did some laps, but it was pretty leisurely. Still a ton of fun! :D |
ok, only got one more leg session in. did 20 lunges alternating legs. which is a good thing, cuz i already felt the sore as I was doing those. apparently i woke up those muscles this morning yay!
|
I wish I knew how to swim. I mean, you could throw me in the deep end and I can kick and move my arms and be just fine, but I wish I knew how to swim properly, with face in water and side breathing and all.

Oh, me too. I'm in the pool four times a week these days, but I'm not sure what I'm doing can really be called swimming yet. I still use flotation devices while practicing strokes. Hopefully with the lessons I'm doing I'll be able to call myself a swimmer soon though.
I am starting to feel comfortable calling myself a cyclist though! My husband and I just got home from a 28 mile ride. It was hard, in part because it was all new routes and we got lost a couple times and had to ride in scary traffic from time to time. I'm glad we did it though, and I did have fun during some parts. |
wow, the cycling sounds like fun agave! i like to ride the bike, what I hate is the SEAT. talk about pain.
urthwurm, agave and bighog I love to swim and I have been doing it pretty much all my life. I took lessons at an early age, but was a natural so I started teaching younger kids to swim when I was a pre-teen. one of the best ways to get the breathing technique for the crawl down is to do this. you can practice it whenever you go: stand in the shallow end. bend your body over so that your head can lean in the water. blow bubbles out your nose as your head is in the water. The timing of the bubbles and when you come up keeps the water out of your nose. Once you got the feel of that. Do it again this time start your arms. Do this by keeping your fingers tight together in a semi cupped position--slapping the water just makes it more awkward. keep your arms bent and tight. you are kind of scooping water out of the way...bring your arms up and down, maybe do 1, 2 turn your head to the side right there at the top of water and breathe. Then do the 1, 2 breathe, 1, 2 breathe. it is rhythmic. keep your head turning in the same direction--so you can feel the rhythm. after a while, you can do your arms and breathing simultaneously.--i would teach you for free if you could come to where i am. well, i decided since i worked my legs so well, i would swim today. It turned out to be really aggravating to get to the point where I could finally swim. I had to clean the pool, then i had issues with the filter i had to fix---finally i got in and started doing laps. the pool isn't very wide--just 15 ft--but i could still do laps. I did 20 breast stroke, 20 crawl, 20 back gliding, 20 ( i call it guppies) just swiming underwater one side to the other, 20 more back stroke, 20 side stroke. it started thundering after 15 min...but i stayed in and enjoyed myself. um, I'm pretty sore from my abs to my legs, i guess i will work my arms some tomorrow. should i work my abs sore? i wonder about that, because don't they need time to rebuild? |
what a great idea!!! love it! thanks for starting this idea Wild vulpix.
I'm definately going to be posting here!! well posting much later after my exercise. today was the first day i've done any exercise after a few weeks. i was on holiday for the past 5 weeks, the first few weeks, i managed to get some running in a couple of times a week. but later on in the holiday didnt get the time. so felt very sluggish getting back into exercise today. but glad i took that first step! gained like 6lbs though! oh well, no matter, had a great time :) hehe felt very sluggish - but prevailed. went walking for 1 hour and 10 minutes, and for a fraction of the time, i did some jogging intervals. burned 356 calories. i'm glad i got out there and went for the walk in the park, it was a lovely day! i now plan to exercise first thing, as its nice to get it out of the way. |
Had a great walk/run today I felt really really good! Tonight I'm off to the gym for some weight training :strong:
