jendiet, I can picture clearly what you are saying because my 7 year old is an awesome swimmer and those are the things I've seen her coach teaching her. (In fact, I always thought I knew how to swim until last year when my daughter starting taking lessons from this particular woman!)

I don't think I am going to be able to try it this summer. My 5 year old son broke his arm and so far, I've let my other kids go swimming with friends but I have not taken them swimming because I can't make him sit on the sidelines in the heat and watch everyone.

Desert Agave 07-13-2010 12:20 PM

I'm back from my run/walk. I did more walking than I wanted to, but still managed my 5K neighborhood loop in 39 minutes, so I'm happy enough with how it went. Later today I'll hop on my spin bike. It is hot outside and I don't feel up to a real bike ride today.

jendiet 07-13-2010 04:36 PM

**hog, i am so sorry about your son--i know as a mom--that has to really suck. I feel for you. and for him of course. I'm glad i still remember how to properly teach. I taught my son to swim and he's a little shark.

**desert good job on getting out there! I think doing any amt. of running out there is A HUGE accomplishment!

ok, so yesterday I was so busy doing housework for like 8 hours. This place was a pit. I logged 31, 345 steps on my pedometer. wow. but since that is not traditional exercise, and my goal is to do traditional exercise--i did my arm routine.

i used both weights and tubing and the floor and my bathtub (tricep dips)

I don't really focus on sets. I work on the muscle with say 10 reps a set, but if I go to to do the muscle and I can only get barely through 5--then 5 is it. I mean I push myself to get those last 5 in.

working with 5 lb weights.

modified pushups 1 set of 10, 2 sets of 5
bicep curls 2 sets of 15
tricep dips---whoo! 2 sets of 5
overhead press--2 sets of 10
chest press-2 sets of 12
chest fly- 2 sets of 10
standing row- 2 sets of 12
reverse fly-2 sets of 12
lateral raise-2 sets of 10
upright row-2 sets of 12
don't know name-hold weights with elbows ben, wrists up and push arms out.--works boobs--all i know.-2 sets of 10

felt pretty good burn after it. I am barely sore today, and not really sore from legs or abs--means I have some condition after all. heh.

blindcantaloup 07-13-2010 09:14 PM

I went for a depressing 30 minute walk jog. Depressing because I just bought some shoes at the running store which I didn't realize were awful for me until this run. :(

saef 07-13-2010 09:53 PM

Stress, stress, stress at work. E-mails popping through every three minutes, or every minute, and then analysts sending me IMs, or wanting a phone call & everyone demanding immediate attention, unable to wait even a minute for my reply. Which left me moving back & forth between four projects of mine, unable to stop for more than a minute because when one moved to the next stage, there was something I could do on another. No downtime without guilt. It's been like this for two days.

I knew what was coming. So I got up at 5:20 AM & went to the gym & did some weights. To a Led Zeppelin soundtrack. That was the kind of thing I was in the mood to hear. I tried to move up to the next most heavy weight for each movement, though nothing stupid. You know, I almost wanted it to hurt me a little.

How I hated to walk back home, to my laptop, and resume what I knew would be a relentless day. How I dreaded each step toward that laptop & phone.

Then, when the day was ending, and me sitting here in my chair practically shivering with nerves, and so very angry, yes, ANGRY at all this pressure, at the UNREASONABLENESS OF IT, which I feel unequal to, I went back to the gym for a spin class at 7:30 PM. It was either that, or eat something, which would do nothing to help me. I hardly spoke to anyone. I warmed up at a pretty good pace for 10 minutes beforehand. And when it was over, a woman on the bike behind me said, "My God, you were really hitting those pedals during the sprints."

Yes. Because I wanted to punish something. Me, the bike, the pedals. I don't know what. Anything would do. Thank goodness for insensate metal & my own arms & legs. Thank goodness for workouts. Thank goodness for the gym.

1bighog 07-13-2010 11:17 PM

blind--that sucks! too late to take them back?

saef--sounds like good therapy. hope it helped, even if a little!

mandalinn82 07-13-2010 11:32 PM

Just back from water aerobics, after a long, active day.

80 min incline training
20 min UB workout
10 min abs
50 min walk with the dog
60 min water aerobics

Whew! Gonna sleep well tonight!

skygirl 07-14-2010 12:02 AM

i got back on the treadmill today after 3 days off. i really needed that boost. i was so tired. i feel so much better now. :)

cherylmn 07-14-2010 12:22 AM

Saef - way to take charge & beat the cr@p outta your stress. I'm learning the beauty of that exact therapy myself. It is empowering, freeing, FABULOUS! Nicely done - I hope it helped.

Mandalinn82 - I just have to say that I read your posts & am in awe. I don't know how you do as much as you do - both physically & in terms of time. Bravo!!

As for me, it was a day of PTO where I did nothing but work. Personal appointments, phone calls, house chores, errands, and (of course) actual work-work, too (really, what would a day off be without having to login & work??). My hubby is traveling & left the house at 5am, so no morning workout for me - kiddos were up too early looking for my attention. It was an uber productive day, but not working out was weighing on my mind. So at 10pm, I popped in my new favorite Pilates DVD & just pushed hard through 60 minutes of serious core & leg work. Wow.

I am hungry. Seems to always be the case for me now. Maintenance is tough to figure out. I either stuffed or ravenous. I think I'll drink a gigantic glass of water & just go to bed.

Tomorrow - Jillian Michaels. I will do it. No excuses...even it if is 10pm again.

mandalinn82 07-14-2010 12:30 AM

Today, I fit it in like this:

80 min incline training - before work
20 min UB workout - lunch break
10 min abs - lunch break
50 min walk with the dog - right after work
60 min water aerobics - evening

Came home, dinner, and I'm done.

I work from home at that helps, because I don't have to worry about starting work sweaty or a commute, and can often work out on my lunch break. And I don't have kids, so I have more time! Otherwise, though, today I was either working, exercising, or eating, and soon, sleeping!

3FCer344892 07-14-2010 03:18 AM

I've been doing Jillian Michael's 30 day shred DVD, and yesterday was my 6th day doing level 1. I also played DDR, and it said I 'jogged' a little over 3 miles.

1bighog 07-14-2010 09:06 AM

This morning, I ran 5 miles and besides barely being able to walk now, I feel like I can conquer the world! It's my longest distance so far...planning on a 6 mile run on Saturday.

3FCer344892 07-14-2010 02:00 PM

Just finished day 7 of the 30 day shred, and I am drenched in sweat. Thinking of my reward now (a tall glass of water and a shower)! Good luck with your exercises everyone!

jendiet 07-15-2010 06:17 PM

after a killer test in Nur 159, i came home tired, feeling blah. I had no energy. My vitamins got here, and I took the dose of Alive, Ashwagandha, holy basil, and I started to feel ALOT better. even though i was feeling better i took my green tea pill because I knew i wanted the boost to go exercise.

I did get a nice pep. I played with my son for over an hour in the pool. We dove for objects and chased each other, it was fun. Then I swam laps, walked the current for 20 min to get some traditional exercise.

i feel more tired, but a good tired, not a drained tired. I am also very hungry, but swimming does that. I have already eaten 1/2 cup of fruits and nuts--but the fact that i exercised feeling weighted down by my poor test grade, gives me hope--i can keep going.

1bighog 07-15-2010 07:11 PM

Finished Day 5 of recovery week in the Insanity program. It's been a boring week since it's the same workout every day, but I can tell I'm a lot stronger so that feels good. Can't wait for the more intense stuff coming on Sunday!

lostinstaticx 07-15-2010 10:30 PM

I just finished my Day 3 of 30DS. I feel so gross, and sweaty, but happy. I feel as if the first circuit of the workout, hasn't gotten any easier. I don't have much upper body strength, so the squat and press is really difficult for me. As far as the rest of the work out goes, I feel better. It seemed to go a lot quicker, though listening to Jillian talk is getting a bit boring. (Lol.) From now on, I'm going to mute the TV, and supply my own music. I modify a couple of the moves. For example, Jumping Jacks, and Jump rope are difficult, and put pressure on my knees. So, during these I've been doing some light jogging. Today I noticed that I pushed myself more throughout the workout, and intensified my moves. (Didn't give up as much on the strength exercises, and jogged a little bit quicker.) So despite my gross feeling right now, lol. I feel good, and proud, and I almost don't dread doing it again tomorrow. :D

1bighog 07-16-2010 09:02 AM

5 am jog again today...only did around 2 miles, though. Went with a couple of friends and I didn't know the route we were taking, so when we all of a sudden stopped I was surprised. It was so short (compared to our 5 mile run just a few days before.) I wasn't really ready to stop, but I knew I needed to since we're planning a 6 mile run tomorrow.

Came home and did my Insanity workout immediately since the run was so short. Feel great, Friday is my long day in the office (and by long day, I mean 9-2--ha ha!)...let's hope I don't fall asleep at my desk.

Desert Agave 07-16-2010 10:52 AM

I'm just back from a four mile run. I ran the whole thing, no walking breaks, and it is the longest I've run, ever, in my whole life. Previously the most I'd ever done was about 3.2 miles. I was bummed this morning because the scale was up a pound, but now I kind of don't care. I ran four miles!

You are awesome! My 5 mile run on Wednesday was the longest I've done. :carrot:

Desert Agave 07-16-2010 06:10 PM

Thanks, 1bighog! I felt pretty awesome after that run. And I'm definitely impressed by your five miles. That will be my next distance to conquer, but I probably won't take it on for a couple weeks.

You know what? You can do it. The longest I had gone prior to my 5 miles was 4.2 miles just the week before.

blindcantaloup 07-16-2010 11:59 PM

Went for a happy run. The running store let me exchange my shoes for some that fit me better. I went to the gym so that I could test them out on the treadmill and ran for 15 minutes. Then later in the afternoon when I was assured I loved the shoes, I took um outside for the first time and jogged 2.8 miles.

1bighog 07-17-2010 08:06 AM

blind--great news!

Ran 6 miles today, with 2 killer hills and a couple of minor ones. Longest I've ever run.

Desert Agave 07-17-2010 11:38 AM

6 miles! Awesome job!

I'm just back from 40 minutes in the pool. I'm making some progress in my swimming. I still can't make it all the way across the pool while doing alternate breathing, which is what my instructor wants me to do, but I can swim all the way across while breathing just to the left. She has me doing some stroke drills too, and I can tell they are helping my form. So, yay. I'll get the hang of this swimming thing yet.

cherylmn 07-17-2010 05:04 PM

Woo hoo, everyone!!! Way to move it!

I dropped my kiddos off at my parents so I could grocery shop quickly and then "borrowed" an extra 45 minutes to workout/shower. It was a quick 2 miles on the "dreadmill" (love that phrase...borrowed it from one of you) plus a short pushup/tri-dip session. My legs are burning from that Jules Benson Core Pilates DVD I've been doing, and after the run, I really feel 'em. It actually feels great. Now, how to rid myself of the saddle bags???

Have a great weekend everyone!

blindcantaloup 07-17-2010 09:03 PM

Went for a 14 mile bike ride today, then later jogged my 2.8 miles.

wow, some of you runners are making me feel like a wussy. I guess the most I've been doing is 2.8 miles 'cause that's when my trail ends. Maybe I'll try to up it up tomorrow.

1bighog 07-18-2010 11:59 AM

Skipped my last workout during recovery week for Insanity yesterday since I had done the 6 miles. Today is supposed to be rest day, but I did the 3rd Fit Test because I didn't want to pair it up with my first Max workout tomorrow when I start month 2 of Insanity.

jendiet 07-18-2010 01:22 PM

well, this is wayyy after the fact, but I decided to workout trying to hula hoop. I managed to get it to go around 6 times. The wii game is so much easier, and keeps a steady pace, but this kept my heart rate up in intervals--i like interval training better. I did that for 20 min, but will try again soon!

I then put on some modern music, lady gaga, beyonce, and dance and had fun playing with the hula hoop during " put a ring on it".

i got really hot, and so i decided to jump in the pool and free swim which turned into 45 min of play time with my son.

my abs are really sore from the killer ab workout i did with my son 2 days ago. I didn't post about it because i also keep track in July accountability thread in Weight Loss Forum.

I got out the bean and really worked my abs from every angle, plus i did the dreaded planks, both side, and regular. And then i ventured to do the side dumbell lift.

needless to say, i was not sore, but frequently suffer 2 days after my killer workout and today the areas between my ribs are sore...but it's worth it.

today i plan on working my chest, but my chest is sore from PMS...so I might just rest, and do arms and chest, tomorrow.

Desert Agave 07-18-2010 07:57 PM

Hula hoop! Fun!

This morning I went for an 18 mile bike ride. This route had a few more hills than my normal route. During one hill right in the middle of the ride I looked down and discovered I was going 2 miles per hour. So, you could say I was struggling a little. It was fun to push myself though.

This afternoon I went to the gym and did intervals on the treadmill. I really really didn't want to go. Almost skipped it. But I did go, and ended up having a great time. I was alternating 60 second sprints with 60 second recovery intervals, which meant I really got to play with the speed. Normally I run at 5 mph, but for my sprints today I was doing 6.5-7 mph. Going that fast is fun! I can't wait until I run at that speed for a good amount of time, instead of just 60 seconds. I think I could have gone faster than 7 mph too, but I didn't have the nerve to try.

cataclysmic 07-18-2010 09:19 PM

Managed 48 mins on the elliptical. I try to stick to intervals, and managed to go a bit further then I have before...however by only .02 mi, haha. Every little bit counts to me!

cherylmn 07-19-2010 11:43 AM

I did NOT want to get up this AM. Only getting 5 hours of sleep (with interruptions) is starting to wear on my nerves. But, this is my only day to run outside for the next week, so I thought I'd better go do it.

And I'm so glad I did! 2.5 miles in 25:15. Best time yet...and I felt great.

I also realized how much I've been missing my AM workouts. I just can't fit them in when hubby is traveling. My energy is so low without the morning boost. What a fun realization!!

Happy Monday!

Echo 07-19-2010 12:23 PM

this thread is such a great idea!
---------

i was very lazy when i got up, i so didnt want to workout, and i was hungry! but i forced myself after much procrastination, i also made myself a weekly plan, so i know what exercise i am doing on which day. i heard its a good idea to plan it in advance, that way you dont waste time phaffing about.

i just finished doing p90x chest and back. i have not done any strength training for over 1 month. so i'm looking forward to being sore ! hehe

i'm so hungry now, so going to grab something to eat and then hit the showers. as i might keel over in the shower if i dont eat something now. but i feel so good that i have done the exercise, so its out of the way and now i have the rest of the day to other things. it definately does feel good to get exercise done and dusted first thing.

have a great workout everyone!

marie80brown 07-19-2010 02:37 PM

Today was my first day of working out in a long time. I did the And diet workout dvd it kicked my butt. I'm proud for making it thru

cataclysmic 07-19-2010 08:21 PM

50 min elliptical. 30 min of intervals.
Decent, but boring. When i lose another 20 (which i am afraid of how long it will take, i was losing weight so quickly and am doing so now so so slowly, boo) i want to try to go back to taking aerobics classes.

jendiet 07-26-2010 11:02 AM

20 min running on the rebounder. I did HIIT. I was a little suprised my HR would not go back down into the 50-60% but that is ok. I ran the 20 min mostly at 72-76% of my maximum heart rate. Then i really pumped and pushed it to 86-92% of my heartrate for a couple of 1-2 min intervals.

I feel pretty darned good. The wii says i ran 3.5 miles. I was trying for 4.

I also jog on a rebounder. it helps with the impact issue.

Echo 07-26-2010 12:15 PM

got a cold last tuesday, so no exercise since weds. today i am feeling abit better, so went for a 1 hour walk. i feel better doing it, even though was feeling tired and sluggish and didn't want to bother, but now that i've done it, i feel good :).

walked for 1 hour and 5 minutes and burned 362 calories :)

Echo 07-31-2010 11:22 AM

i recovered from my cold and then got my period! gah. so this week was non existant regarding exercise. but today is the first time since monday that i have now been able to exercise :) so i feel great!

i did p90x legs workout. 65 minutes. burned 373 calories.
then i did Ab ripper X 14 mins and burned 71 calories

so total calories burned today 444 calories :)

i cant believe tommorow is august already!

TheBunneh 08-01-2010 07:28 PM

Completed Chalean Extreme burn circuit 1 followed by an hour of step aerobics. I feel like my muscles have turned into jello.

Now for a reaaaally long bath. :D

Echo 08-02-2010 10:41 AM

just did p90x shoulders and arms phase I. feel great that i've done it first thing and exerise is done and dusted.

61 mins, burned 267 calories.

Desert Agave 08-02-2010 02:22 PM

I am just back from swimming. I'm still such a beginner at it. I swam 16 laps and it took me 35 minutes. There was a lot of standing up and catching my breath between laps! Still, a couple weeks ago I couldn't even do this much, so I'm making progress.

Also yesterday I ran 5 miles, my new longest distance run yet. They were five pretty slow miles, but still, 5!
