Hi Deva... Thank you for your answer...
I need to check out those DVDs. Sounds like a good plan you have there.

Saturday, June 5:

60 minutes elliptical, set at random intervals, resistance at 7
60 minutes Pilates class

This day is all about humidity. I wanted to turn on the air conditioner & drink iced tea & read the NY Times all morning, but I made myself dress for the gym. (Putting on the clothes really helps me. I don't know why.) And worked up a sweat even walking over there. I got on the elliptical instead of the arc trainer for a change. At resistance set at 7, and intervals, the machine goes up to 10. And that is a killer when going backward. The small of my back ached afterward.

I had 20 minutes to cool off before Pilates & it barely felt like enough. I could actually feel a film of salt coating my legs & arms & chest.

Pilates was crowded & difficult & great. Aside from abs, we lay on our backs & our sides & put our legs up in the air & did excruciatingly tiny movements. I could feel muscles inside my butt being worked. Something around my hip flexors began trembling & practically seized up. Thank goodness for long & varied stretches afterward.

I wonder about holding a muscle till it trembles. I suspect it's good & means I am getting a good workout. But somehow it's humiliating to me when it happens, to be in the position or pose or movement & shaking. I think it calls up memories of other kinds of shakyness. Like having to get up before the class & give a report. That always sent me into paroxysms. I was a shaky kid in general. I know exercise-induced shakes is something else entirely, not nervousness but a muscle sort of spasming, but it has some kind of psychological effect on me nevertheless.

Sunday, June 6:

Dumbbells and barbells, about 30 minutes at the gym

Swimming class, 60 minutes

Back in the pool at the swimming class at the community college. They've combined intermediate & advanced class into one because just a few people signed up for the summer. We did drills for the length of the pool for most of the class. In my freestyle stroke, the instructor wants me to put more force in the arm & hand going back. I finally connected this movement with tricep kickbacks. At the endurance section, she wanted eight consecutive lengths. I was only able to do six in the time allotted.

I am feeling this plus the weights in my upper body tonight, in my back & shoulders, in a good way.

Deva: I always do cardio and lift weight.
I would love to swim and do some kind of classes, but I can't afford a gym that has those things...
When the weather is nice outside and I have time I also like to roller blade (I am still learning). I don't really count that in this thread though.

Hey Belezura, here was my solution to finding a pool to exercise in. I did not like the local gym that has a pool. It's part of a large chain that always seems to be on the verge of bankruptcy, and it is not convenient to my home. I preferred a gym that was just one block away from my apartment, where I could easily make it part of my life's routines. So I looked into swimming classes offered by local high schools with pools in their adult education courses. I ended up at the local community college, which offers many exercise classes & has several levels of swimming classes.

Monday, June 7

60 minutes stationary bike
30 minutes Pilates routine

Yes, after using the bike, I was on the floor at the office gym, lying on a pair of mats, doing the Pilates routine that I'd worked out for myself, with a book on Pilates at my side as a prompt or study aid. The routine is based on exercises we've done in my twice-a-week Pilates class. I took about seven moves & made a sequence from them, with the book's help (it has some sequences). So I do my exercise & periodically check the book at my side. It doesn't look as strange as it might otherwise, since this is a gym at my company headquarters & people often bring paperwork or BlackBerrys with them to their cardio stations. You see them leisurely peddling on the stationery bikes, looking over a report from their briefcase which lies beside them on the floor. I cannot do cardio & read. But anyway, this is probably why no one seems to think it's weird that I'm glancing at a book after doubling up over my abs with my hands patting the air beside my thighs in The Hundred position.

Tuesday, June 8

45 minutes spin class
About 40 minutes with weights, 10-lb & 12.5-lb dumbbells, 30-lb barbell, 37.5 lbs on pulldown machine

I really, really needed this. I'll be off on Thursday & going away on vacation for a few days. It's hard to attain escape velocity from this job. It takes some long hours on the days immediately preceding the last day.

Wednesday, June 9

60 minutes stationary bike, set at 8 resistance, just over 15.45 miles
30 minutes of Pilates routine

Rolling around on my mat in the gym at the office, with one other woman in the room on a bike, the rest all guys. There is one big guy who uses the weight equipment incorrectly. (He's doing pretty badly if even I, who am just now learning it, can see problems with his form.) But the big issue is that he's a grunter. One of my coworkers cracked me up during Pilates rollups when he came over & whispered in my ear, "I think he's about to pass that object that's inside him."
