Default Confused

So my routine these days is like this -

30 minutes Gold's Gym Cardio for the Wii, 30 minutes free step with Wii Fit, 30 minutes My Fitness Coach cardio for the Wii. I do that 5 times a week plus 1 day I add weight/strength training upper body, 1 day lower body and 1 day core.

My question is, is this enough exercise to get results? Am I working hard enough? With the Gold's Gym Cardio, I do sweat but it is minimal. The free step I sweat a little more and with My Fitness Coach cardio I do a fair amount of sweating. I don't have nor can I afford a HRM or I would surely have one. So how can I know if I am burning enough calories? :|

Oh I guess this may or may not be imperative information but I prefer to break my routines into 30 minutes sessions. That shouldn't be a problem but is it

As for cardio, I think you're doing enough. It sounds like you're doing three different levels, all which are doing SOMETHING for you if you're sweating. I'd ask someone with better knowledge than I, but it is my opinion that strength training a specific body area once per week is not going to show the kind of results that you would see doing it every other day. But, again, maybe someone out there knows what I just guess at!

Good luck to you.

I wonder if I switch to full body weight/strength for the same 5 days I do cardio would make a difference? For my life, it is easiest for me to NOT workout on the 2 days my bf is off work so I am trying to find out what would be optimal for me for the 5 days I do workout.

Thank you, Eumie for the advice

I have used/use all three of your workouts, so I agree with your intensity assessment.

I need to ask YOU an additional question. WHAT results are you intending to get?

Is this enough for fitness? Yes.
Is this enough to lose weight (combined with your diet)? Yes.
Is this enough to build muscle to enter a fitness competition? No

Honestly - your routine sounds great - well suited for health and fitness. If your goals are more ambitious - more will be required. Otherwise - Keep at it!

On a side note, my routine has been similar and I am very pleased with my results

Variety is good. Intensity is good. Sweat is good. ANYTHING you can stick to is good.

Honestly - keep at it and enjoy the results. When you get bored, it is time to move on to something else. Otherwise - keep at it chickie - you are doing GREAT!!!!

Onder - the only thing I would add to the discussion, is you mentioned possibly doing a full body weight lifting/strength all 5 days. Really it's not a good idea to work the same muscle group 2 days in a row regarding weight lifting. The muscles need a day in between for recovery. Your program looks fine to me!

Onderchic,

I know you had mentioned that you cannot afford a HRM, just take your pulse. It's pretty easy. Count the beats for 15 secs and multiply it by 4, this will give you your bpm (beats per minute) Depending on your stats, you can 'google' what is a good HR to burn fat for your Hgt, wgt, age, gender, etc..

Your body might also be getting used to the same workout, so try switching it up.

I hope some of these suggestions help.

I wish you much Success!!!!!
