Smile BEST EXERCISE is the one you will do - don't you think?

I've been searching for the exercise that will benefit me the most and would love to join a gym and have great abs and a six pack and all the stuff they show on TV, but the BEST EXERCISE IS THE ONE YOU WILL DO!!

What does everyone think about this? I realize that spin class burns huge amounts of calories, and resistance training is really good for you and cardio is something all trainers preach, but no matter how hard I try to fit into the box of popularity, I walk everyday and I actually LOVE IT AND DO IT EVERYDAY!!

I agree with you! I would never exercise if I had to take a spin class or yoga or something else I didn't like. But I love to take a morning walk every day! Its only a few miles but its better than nothing at all.

You have to enjoy it or you won't want to do it.
With that said, you can learn to love exercise by going slow. So many times, we think "Gotta start exercising" so we go out and try to run 3 miles right off the bat, hate it, and then plop back onto the couch.

I am always willing to give something a couple of tries, but I also now know instinctively if something doesn't click with me. Some things really surprised me that *did* click, like running! Never thought that would happen.

Absolutely agree with you!! I think the most important thing, especially for beginners, is just to establish a consistent exercise routine -- whatever it is. People often find that as they get fitter, they naturally increase exercise intensity/duration (because it gets easier) and then branch out into other activities to keep things interesting.

But first, you have to get started!! And if you don't like what you're doing, you won't stick with it. So if walking works -- great!! Walking is an awesome exercise -- accessible, inexpensive, versatile, and most people can do it. My mom lost 70 pounds last year and her primary exercise mode was walking.

I totally agree. A sport you really enjoy will become a lifelong habit and a pleasure, not a chore.

My fave exercise is walking, whether outside or in the gym. My body is not built for running, but I could walk forever, or until things start hurting, whichever comes first. I get bored outside though, same houses, same trees, same birds , not much variation in route, but at the gym, I plug my headphones into the receiver thingy and watch some TV, which makes time go super fast. To intensify my workouts, in order to get fit and in better shape, I've added the eliptical, weights, and a BodyFlow class, which combines yoga, tai chi and pilates. This keeps it interesting for me.

Smile BEST EXERCISE for me

I think the common "thread" here is that we all have a favorite, we do what we love (or Hate) and it does a body good!! We all have a story to tell and whatever motivates us is what we need to do each day. Glad to hear you thoughts and everybody keep dancin'!!
