I signed up for our studio's Hot Yoga June Challenge -- 30 classes in 30 consecutive days! I'm going where I've never gone before -- 5th class in 5 days tomorrow!
Oh gosh, I've never done it at all (although I do have a home yoga practice), and it's been on my mind to try it. The expense is a big part of the consideration, plus it would have to be evening, and I'm accustomed to morning exercise, but I still keep thinking about it. Aaargh, I can be so indecisive. But I kinda feel like right now having paid for classes whether I attend or not, and maybe getting to know people who expect me to show up might be a good thing for me.
But I go on vacation the 13th for a week, so I guess at the least I'll wait until I get back. Dang, you had to go make me think about this one again
That is so awesome that you have a yoga home practice. I don't think I could do any form of yoga on my own. I unfortunately suffer from "monkey mind", and I'd be up and at the fridge, or "is that the mail?" or "my toe is itching" if left to my own devices...
And if IS expensive...I had to decide between this and my gym membership. So I killed the gym, and took the yoga. Still costs about twice as much...sigh.
But I found that my studio offered a one week unlimited trial membership for $20! This was a great way to try out the schedule without sinking $$$ into it.

I have the same $20 offer, but I don't know what the fee is after that. I have to call and find out. I almost think just the one week might just be what I need to get going again, and then I can go back to the home thing. I guess I'll see what I think after a week. I am rather fond of doing things my own way
No harm in marching to your own drum! I do this too, and I think that this quality makes someone AWESOMELY interesting. I guess this is why, to be honest, I have some trouble with the dogmatic philosophical approach of this form of yoga. So I do it mostly for the exercise...sacrilege, huh! Hahaha!
Ms zaarjunkie, it IS awesome! I love it! Just try a week of it, and you'll see...
Hi Su-Bee!
Well, yesterday was day 10. I woke up at my usual time, put my arms over my head in bed, yawned, and then my entire trapezius muscle on my left side went into spasm!!!!
I couldn't MOVE! I was turtled, on my back, in the bed! I yelled for my DH, he helped crank me upright, and I got to the bathroom and immediately took a theraputic dose of Motrin (800mg). I put heat on it, and 4 hours later, took more Motrin! I repeated this for the rest of the afternoon, and then thought...HMMM do I GO tonight or do I STAY HOME...
Old me: stay at home, put my feet up, take it easy.
NEW me: go to yoga and do what I could do.
SO, I got over to the studio, explained what happened and that I had LIMITED mobility on my left side (couldn't even turn my head to the left!!!). They gave me some modifications. And I got through the class! In fact, keeping my head directly aligned with my spine improved my postures!!!!
I went again today (day 11) and my neck is much, MUCH better -- still some restricted movement but NO Motrin as of last night. I seriously haven't had healing like this before!!!
OMg. Great to see people doing hot yoga! Is it Bikram yoga you are doing? I just bought a one year pass... My schedule makes it hard for me to do the 30 day challenge, although i REALLY REALLY Want to.. but I will go as much as I can this month which will amount to around 7 this month, and my goal is going to be 20 for July!!, I am going to Vegas in August, so that is my motivation.
I went yesterday after like a week and a half and my boost of energy from just one class was amazing!! Can't wait to go tonight!!
Awesome! Hot Yoga is SO different from anything else that I've ever done, and it is SO out of my comfort zone, so I'm really thrilled that I've been able to do this.
I am doing Bikram because I LOVE the idea that I can travel and go to the same class type and style anywheres in the world. And I appreciate the training that the instructors have had (sure beats the weekend certifications one finds often at the average gym in my area!).
Keep on going as much as you can, and you'll feel so amazing by August! And have an awesome class tonight...
My second 30-day challenge was all about learning to be humble in the yoga. I had a back injury when the challenge started, put my neck out at one point, and had a bad cold halfway through. So it was all about realizing that doing the yoga to the best of my ability on any given day was doing the yoga perfectly. There were a few times when I spent half the class on the floor - but I was in the hot room, every single day.
Very very sage advice. Thanks Su-Bee. It is HARD to not want to be perfect all the time (in diet, in work, in exercise...) and to just thank our bodies for letting us do what it could do that particular day is hard to do. But I'm getting there!!!

I have found that, every 30-day challenge I've done (all 3 so far, hah!), I've had some sort of breakthrough. I told you the second time, it was being humble in the yoga - but the others were more impressive! First time, it was being able to touch my forehead to the floor in standing separate leg stretching pose. Third, it was seeing my feet over my head in floor bow. So I TOTALLY want to hear what your breakthrough is, because I KNOW you will have one!
ETA - Oh yeah, I actually had a second epiphany during my 3rd 30-day challenge - one day, I had the studio owner on the mat to my left, and during the second half of the final spinal twist - I SAW HIM!!!
