April 2008 Walk/Run Challenge
Starting up anther month to set goals for walking or runnng! Join in Join back up but lets get moving!
2/75 2 on the eliptical. work is crazy, I would like to get another 2 in tonight! Added a 2 mile walk with the pooch who decided it was warmenough for a SWIM!!! STINKY DOG!!! :) |

So for the past 2 weeks I've been walking on the treadmill at 3.5-5.0% incline at 3.5-3.8mph for 20 minutes 4 time a week or so. I sweat and huff my way through it, but I feel like if I can do this, I should be able to run/jog pretty easily. But I can't, I get so winded when I jog. I've tried jogging and then recovering, but I haven't had much success. I'd like to make jogging a mile my goal this month, but I don't know if that's reasonable. What's the secret?

I ended March with 42 miles run, so I am shooting for the same or better for April. After today's run I am at

I ended March 8.5 miles from goal and 80 min short on yoga, but I got a lot of spring cleaning done and had an overall good month. I'm happy with March anyway.
Onto April. I'm going to go about it differently this month. I hope no one minds. I feel I need to do some changing up. I'm getting a little stale so to say. My challenge this month is 30 hours of exercise. When I choose to walk I will post miles. I hope all the long timers are good with that. Today : 30 min TM for 2.25 miles and 30 min yoga total : 1 hour |
I'm going for 45 this month. I've got to start incorporating other exercise so I'm going to try to reduce my time/mileage on the treadmill---of course, this is the same thing I said March 1st and it didn't happen! :devil:

Hi there.
I'm excited about this new month. I noticed the March thread about 3 or 4 days ago. This is just what I need to keep me motivated. Like HudsonHawk, I would eventually like to jog. When I was in high school, I used to just run for the heck of it. I'd just do 2 or 3 miles and it was no big deal. Now I can't jog a quarter mile! I'll get there though. I'm going to follow Ennay's and BlzMax's advice. I just started exercising again. I wonder if I should wait a few weeks to practice jogging though. I'll see how things go. Anyway, that was long-winded. Sorry! My goal for this month is 80 Miles. |

I usually just lurk but would love to join this thread for the accountability. I'm just starting out (using my Nike+ with my iPod) and will set my goal for April in minutes. I did only 40 today so: 40/800 |

It's a beautiful 50+ degree day. I have 3 loads of laundry drying on the line. Mmmm, I love that fresh smell of spring laundry. Did a 4 mile walk with M today. 30 min yoga 6.25 miles 2 hours of 30 total |
Warm and humid here but I managed to sweat it out anyway. That'll teach me to get it done earlier in the day.

Took a day off from running, so I won't be adding to my tally. I did, however, bike for about 9 miles. Sure felt like a hot summer day down here.

BlzMax, thanks for posting about the Cool Running website. I started the beginner's Couch to 5k this evening. I didn't follow it perfectly, but I started with the brisk 5 minute walk, then ran a quarter lap, walked three quarters of a lap. I did it for 3 miles. As I was jogging, I promised myself never to get this out of shape again. My calves were burning!!! Thanks for the welcome Lovnmom. Well, time to get ready for bed. I'll post my updated miles tomorrow. |

Hey all, I'm back for more fun in April!!! I want to challenge myself again this month, I'm shooting for 110 miles run or walked and 12lbs off. Hoping to get to 140 by summer, as I will be spending alot of time in the pool to help hubby with his water rehab and strength training (want to look good). We are still a-go for May 1st left hip replacement. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the metal test this week, praying for no allergies. :hug:

liligurl, Keeping you and the hubs in my thoughts and prayers. I tried out a new yoga dvd today that was suggested by ilene. Rodney Yee Yoga Burn. I really liked it. I can really feel a good burn in my arms and upper body and it had a nice relaxation time at the end. Dreary and gray here today. Yuck! 90 min Yoga 6.25 miles 3 hours of 30 exercised |
Oh woe is me, it is hot down here! I was only able to withstand running 2 miles this afternoon. I am going to add 2 to my running tally, but I did walk an additional 2 miles. I just could not go on with the running. My engine was overheating :o

30 min walk up the dug way and across a couple fields with the pooch for about 2 miles. It was such a lovely trek. I'm hoping to do 30 min more of something yet today. If I manage I'll edit!
