Welcome Johnson, Living in WI I am forced to use my TM much more than I would like lol The TM is a great way to exercixe though. I've found to bust the most calories and get your heart rate going it's best to vary your incline. My TM starts at 1.5%. I'll stay there for a quarter mile and then pop up to 4% for a quarter back down to 1.5% a quarter up to 8% back down etc.....enough to push myself so I feel uncomfortable, not painful or miserable, then drop back down. Of course I have days I use no incline at all. Keeping moving seems to be the most important rule.

I did 3 slippery miles yesterday. The slush and yuck hid black ice. I never went down, but came close a couple of times. I also did a 20 min yoga dvd and a 20 min pilates dvd. They didn't really focus on the upper body in the way I wanted them to, but it shook things up and I did enjoy it.

14 of 72 miles
4 of 8 20 min upper body work outs

Yucky rainny day 2 so i went to the gym. I should use it more but I like being out so much better AND I joined to WO with a friend and we just don't go together. Also I avaided January as it is always a zoo there, but February has brought less people and open machines!

Lovinmom, do you have a pair of yak trax? they sell them all over, get the pro because of the velcro, but you can walk on anything and not slip.

lovnmom 02-06-2008 09:46 AM

L, no I haven't invested in anything like that. I don't know what it is about me like that. I've been walking and hiking for 20 years. This past summer I bought my first pair of "good" shoes. I'd always just worn a K-Mart or Wal-mart brand of shoe?!?!?! I also bought my first whicking shirts this summer as well. I even borrow my children's MP3 players and don't have my own LOL I'm definitely putting winter foot gear on my wish list for next winter.

johnson67 02-06-2008 09:48 AM

Lovnmom, thank you for the advice, I will try that. I'm glad I joined this challenge because I got up this morning and was being lazy but remembered I had to post so I did walk 3.25 miles. :carrot: Now I need to cut my calories. For some reason I really have been craving sweets. That has to stop!

5 done 70 to go!

Hi all!

I am back from vacation, where the most exercise I did was lifting my drinks :dizzy: I did find the outdoor track on the ship - does it count that I looked for it???????

Okay, so, getting into Feb late and having done zip to date, I will shoot for 75 miles.

Just over 10 miles this evening - 25.9/135

Sandypickle 02-06-2008 08:08 PM

Only 3K steps today. Didn't walk to work cuz the weather sucked. But frankly, I know better. My father always said "There's no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing." And goodness knows I have the clothing for VT weather. Besides, I could have done an indoor WATP DVD if I weren't so darn lazy.

Tomorrow is a better day. For those of you on track, way to go!

Ceegee - welcome back. Sounds like a fun vacation! Guess now it's time to buckle down to reality once again, huh? Good luck.

Catching up a little...forgot to add my daily runs so here's what I have so far.

6/40 a bit behind but I have been sick all week so I am ok with this number for now.

lovnmom 02-08-2008 03:48 PM

liligurl, Will this be your first child? Hang in there. Being a mom is great!

L, How cool is reading with a pooch? I wonder who'll enjoy it more, Miss Dixie, the children, or you? I think that's such a neat way to reach out to your community.

I got out and did an awesome 7 today. I was feeling a little sluggish and jumble minded. My second mile ended at the top of my first hill and the rush hit. After that it was nothing but happiness.....If you enjoy a little "food porn" now and again check out my post on pg 55 or 56 over at the 40 somethings support thread. Let's just say I enjoyed my yummies yesterday. Thus the sluggish start today, but the oh so necessary longer walk!!!!

lovnmom...yes this our first child, we are so excited, we can hardly wait. :yay: We believe we are getting a 9 yr old boy, his name is Daniel, and from what we know about him is he loves sports...Funny thing, we have been on coolrunning.com and are now signing up for races that include a 1 mile fun run for the kids, and flipping a coin over which parent gets to run the grown up race...one of us will always be there for him. (unless Papa gets there first...my dad, I think more excited than we are to be having another grandchild):grouphug:
