I can't believe I actually wrote it. It's been my little secret for about a year now! Good thing you can't see my blushing!!!

Morning... oh wait, it's afternoon!

Did 5 miles outside today - and finally that darned Lance Armstrong told me I'd done my best run ever... I didn't have the heart to whisper to him inside my iPod that's that's only my second run outside since I got my sensor, Lance!

Oh, shoot. I thought he lived in my iPod!

Three miles in 24 minutes 16 seconds today! I was racing some guys doing their PT tests on the indoor track. (They didn't know I was racing them, but I SO won!)

Do you know that I started running about a year and a half ago, right after Avery was born. I got this idea that it would be fun to be able to run five miles. At that time, I could barely pound out a mile at a twelve-minute-mile pace! It took me seven months to work up to the five miles, and now here I am, a crazy person! I was actually talking to someone the other day about outdoor activities in Germany and I heard myself say, "Well, I'm a runner..." and I just stopped. I'm a runner? I never classified myself that way. I'm a mom. I'm a wife. I'm a Christian. I'm a sister and a daughter and a teacher and a cake decorator. But a runner? I guess I am! My sub-conscious knew it before the rest of me, evidently!

You gals are speed demons

This morning I ran/jogged/walked/crawled ... I had been up for a while and hadn't eaten and I ran out of steam part way through my run... But I was out there for 43 minutes... Exercise is exercise

Ilene, you bean - any exercise is good exercise - you know it, baby!

Kara - I know exactly what you mean... I overheard my husband telling someone at his work Christmas party "Oh, no, Heather's the runner - can't seem to get her to stop if I wanted to!" and I thought: huh?! For weeks I giggled as I'd say 'I am a runner', like it wasn't real. Isn't life funny. How on earth do you decorate cakes AND lose weight? Dear Lord above, if I decorated cakes, they'd never get delivered whole!! Good for you How's the Fat Smash working out for ya?

I took a ski lesson this morning, so I think I'll take a 'running rest day'. (we're going to Tremblant the last weekend in Feb and I thought I should brush up my turning and stopping skills! ) It was definitely more work with an instructor than when I go on my own and just slide down the hill!

4.35 extremely slushy miles this morning. It felt like about a 10:15 effort but the pace was actually more like 11:30. Wasnt slippery, but wasnt good either.

I did a really good interval session this morning. 9 x 400m reps with 200m recoveries, 1 mile warm up and a bit more than 1 mile cool down to take me to 5.7. The reps were at pretty close to 7 minute mile pace, with the recoveries closer to 9, and I really enjoyed it! I've never done much speedwork as part of marathon training before, so it will be interesting to see what effect it has this time round.

I went to Mount Tremblant years ago in the summer. Not the typical time to be there, but it was absolutely gorgeous and incredible, and the town was really neat. Hope you have a great time!

Heather, my dad (the big skier of the family - Here's a side story...My parents and little brother (15 on Friday) came out to visit us when we lived in northern California and evidently my dad's secretary yelled at him the day before his trip because he kept talking about his "ski trip to Tahoe" and hadn't even mentioned that they were actually coming to see us, and skiing a couple of the days.) loves Mt. Tremblant. Have a blast! The Fat Smash is going incredibly well! I really didn't expect to lose the four pounds a week that the program promises because I know I don't have a lot of that elusive "water weight" to lose and because I'm pretty fit to begin with. But I lost five pounds the first week, and not only that, but I also started my period that week! I can't wait to see what the scale says on Monday when my period will be over AND I will have been on plan for a whole 'nother week! Seriously, I just got the book for the ready-made meal plans, but it is working tremendously. I think it's the protein. I'm definitely eating more protein now than I was before. I feel great, though! I'm not an professional cake decorator, just the go-to family cake decorator. I'm making my brother's birthday cake the weekend after we get home. It's going to be a ski slope with a little snowboarder doing a jump. (Peter's a big boarder - he and my dad have a good natured thing going!) Luckily, when I'm decorating, I'm too into getting it perfect to want to munch on the cake!

Ilene, you made me laugh! Crawled! You're right, exercise is exercise!

Helen, I am so curious to hear how your speed workouts will impact your marathon time! You've been plugging away so diligently that it can't help but improve your time!

Ennay, glad you didn't drown in the slush. I hate slush. It's so ugly.

Laura,

I got in three more miles today. I was going to take it easy because I ran yesterday, ran today, and have another three miles on the schedule for tomorrow, but there were other people on the track and I felt like I had to prove myself or something so I sped through the run. I didn't time myself, but I was going at a good clip. I need to work on this pride issue before the marathon or else I'm going to hit it too hard at the beginning and not have enough energy left to finish! I need to get into my own little world I guess.

Hey, do you guys get this "runners' high"? I kind of feel a little guilty, like I'm doing something wrong or it should be illegal. I am totally bouncing after a run. Smiling my cheeks off to everyone who passes by me in the other direction and just a downright looney endorphin junkie. It's five hours after my run now and I'm still a little "high"!

I'm such a goofball.

Kara - I find myself doing that, if I'm on a long run and I see other runners I tend to speed up as if to say "look, I can run faster if I want to, I'm just going slow because that's what my schedule says". I also find I run a lot faster on club runs than when I'm on my own because I get a bit competitive and want to push myself to keep with the faster runners with the aim that one day I'll be able to do it!
