  • Oooh - Kara, what kind of shoes are you wearing that feel like slippers?? My 'indoor' shoes are Nike Air Span 4's (now discontinued - I only bought them in July!!) and I just got new Nike Air+ 10Ks for outside - not sure I love them, to be honest... they have a more narrow toe, and I've only been out in them once... I'm reserving judgement for now!

Thanks for all the support all - it's a good laugh looking at how much slower I am on RunningAhead than Helen, but I needed a good laugh, and it doesn't bother me - Helen IS a crazy running machine! Ennay - I like the way you think!!

  • I LOVE running in the rain. Well not cold icy rain, but normal rain. My favorite running weather is a nice misty rain.

I've just been informed that I have Nike Air Pegasus+ shoes. Tom got them for me for Christmas and they have a much wider toe than any other Nikes I've ever had. He was actually reading the thread over my shoulder and ran over to the shoe cabinet to tell me what kind they are! I've run in them outside (on pavement) and inside (on the running track) and they're terrific either way. The longest I've done in them is six and a half miles at a time, though.

    Kara

ETA - Ennay, you're too. And to add that I keep forgetting to log my miles in runningahead. Oops.
  • I always wear Asics Cumulus, I've been through about 3 different versions of them (7, 8 and 9 I think but don't quote me on it), and as long as they stay roughly the same I'm not going through the trauma of changing.

I do have a huge pile of dead running shoes at home. I keep on meaning to take some of them to a local running shop that collects them for recycling, but I do also wear them for cycling, weights, general tramping around once I no longer run in them. But I could probably get by with 1 pair for that purpose rather than 4 or 5... I've got two "live" pairs that I alternate, if one pair is drying out or something like that.

Good news, it's not raining for my run home from work. 5 miles uphill, but I'd rather be running it than cycling it at least!
  • Kara 5k in 25 minutes OYE I'm a slow poke ... This morning I did 5k in 49 minutes NOT ..... Oh well, I am older than the rest of you (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it)

My first pair was Nike Air Pegasus also, not the + ones though and they were very comfy... I just changed, cause, I felt like it ... I replace mine once/year now, I already have my new pair for the Spring... The last pairs have been Reeboks... I have a pretty neutral foot plus I wear orthotics, I'd die without my orthotics...

Although I am a I had a great run this morning... -7c with a light snow, it was like running in the sand and it was a great workout... when I got home I shoveled the driveway...

Oh, BTW I love, love the RunningAHEAD site...
  • Kara,

My dh's iPod sensor just says it needs a new battery too. :-)

I still need to get myself to the runningahead thing.

    Have a good day all!
  • Okay - Kara, I have a confession... I took my Nike Air+ 10K's back to the store and promptly tried the Air Pegasus+ 2007's... OMG - they're SO comfortable! I cannot thank you enough for the recommendation (even if you didn't know you were making one!) The girl in the store actually told me that they're a step up from my Air Span 4's, but very similar, and they are Bowerman's, so they fit the same... awesome!

Can't wait to run tomorrow - my Air Span 4's have been promoted to my 'outside shoes' now, and these babies are starting on the treadmill! Bring it on!!

    Heather
  • Oh, yay! I'm so glad you like them! I'll definitely stick with them now. I'm going to tell Tom and he'll be super excited. Last year for Christmas he got me my iPod and this year he got the shoes and sensor, and both gifts have been HUGE hits, so he's super proud of himself for picking them out. He'll have such a bloated head knowing you're loving them, too!

What's the Bowerman series? I had another pair of Nike's that I noticed were also in the Bowerman series but they fit totally different, so I had no clue what the similarities were. Up until now I've bought running shoes on the what's-the-cheapest-on-the-clearance-rack technique!

I got three more miles in today. It was a bit of a struggle, but I was hungry and I think that was my problem. I shouldn't be struggling with three miles. My little runner girl is moving along! Can't wait until she has less than 900 miles to go! "She". I mean ME!

    Kara
  • Bill Bowerman was a founder (co-founder, maybe?) of Nike, but before then he was apparently a track and field star. I'm not sure if there's anything particularly 'special' about the Bowerman series of Nikes, but for women, they have a wider toe area and different lacing pattern. I'm no expert, but that's what the salesman told me when I bought my Air Span 4's, and asked : "Why do these say 'Bowerman' on them, and who's the little man with the hat?"

Tell your hubby I ADORE them!! And Kara - look at your girl running - woohoo!
  • See, that's why it pays to be curious! I'll have to Google him sometime.

    Kara

  • In Oregon Bowerman is revered as a god. He was primarily a (very successful) coach and he invented the "waffle" sole that is the basis for all modern road shoes.

ETA - and yes, he was a co-founder of Nike along with Phil Knight
  • See? Ennay is the woman who knows!
7.5 miles for me today - I need to cut my runs back a little again... remind myself that too much, too soon is bad, m'kay?

    Heather
  • This morning it was cold because there was no sun and it was very damp , -18c/-0.4f .... 3.94k in 34:39 ... Two huge dogs scared the HECK out of me , they were tied though but I always worry about BIG dogs because they could either jump the dang fence or pull on they chain and break it... my knees were like jello after that incident...

ut-oh...my know it all reputation is gonna get me in trouble. Seriously, I had no clue who he was until I moved here. Its like being in indiana and never having heard of corn.

Heather is on a running high!!!!

Ilene - ugh..I hate dogs. Of course being scared of dogs is less embarrassig than last weekend when I pulled a butt muscle leaping away from a stupid pheasant who came out of the underbrush right at me. I was halfway up a steeeeeep hill at the time. Stupid pheasant.
  • I get scared by my own shadow at least once every time I run outside. I am not kidding.

Seriously, I'm not kidding. Like, heart-jumps-in-the-throat scared!
