Default P90X vs Jillian Michaels Program

Hi. Considering one of these for my family and I. I am very out of shape, spouse is leaner but hit a plateau, son and daughter are athletic (soccer, football) but want to get a little faster on the field (strength building).

The only issue I seem to have with P90x is the length of videos. 45mins- 1 hour at a clip may be hard to work in daily (being a realist). I have heard JM ones are 30 minutes.

However, if P90X is a more successful program than we'll make it work.

Thx SM14

@SM14 - I havent yet done the JM video, but i have done P90x.

From what I can see, for your plateau spouse and son and daughter p90x may be good for them as they have more agility, etc.

For you as you are getting into the swing of things, I would suggest you follow that "lean" video layout as it features mostly cardio x, yoga x, core synergistics, and more.

Lastly, i would want to note that exercise is only half of the battle... you will also need to take into account whqt you eat and start making subtle changes.

if 45-1hr is far too long for you, my little sister swears by the Tony Horton's Power Half Hours. I am getting through Insanity right now but I own the Jillian wourkouts too. Id put the P90X higher on the degree of difficulty/challenge when compared to Jillian's. If you are very out of shape, I would suggest going with Jillian first to get the hang of things.

I have both P90X and JM Ripped 30. I would say they are both effective workouts. If time is going to be the difference between whether you do a workout or skip it, do Jillian Michaels' workouts. They are tough. If you want to see max results, I would recommend P90X. I did a full round of P90X last fall and found it to be extremely effective. But afterward I decided as a "break" I would do JM's Ripped in 30 and thought it would be easy, but it wasn't. JM's workouts use lighter weights but more reps, and often combine moves and just generally do things differently than P90X which created new challenges for my body. At this time, I do something different every day and I do P90X, Supreme 90 Day, JM Ripped in 30 and other workouts for variety and they are all hard and as long as I'm sore the next day I know they're working.

Agree with the above. Especially for your spouse on a plateau and your children P90X would be the way to go. I have not done the 30 day shread with Jillian but I have completed some of her other DVDs. I love P90X, and am currently on week 2. It's a killer but in a good way. If you want to start out slow especially given the time factor I would go with JM but I also think it would be a lot of fun and more motivating if you did P90X with your family. I am doing the Lean program which I think would be good for you too.
