Tammy- I haven't been able to get my hands on a copy of the diabetic diet yet.. I have been looking on the net but no luck yet. They send me to a site just to find out it is a book they are trying to sell. I guess I will try Books A Million this week.I already am limiting carbs .Mainly the white carbs.I eat icecream only once a week. I eat a fruit or two a day,usually.. I don't drink sweet drinks. Just diet once in a while. Usually G/tea or water.I don't know off the top of my head what my glucose reading was. My hubby has it filed away. I go for Blood Work in a few days..The Dr. said that should tell the story. He gave me a book on eating in fast foods/restaurants I don't eat there unless it is a salad or just protien/veggies,so, that was worthless to me.
Good luck with school. My daughter says she has just 17 students so far. She is hoping for a better year.Another school in her area sent her a message that if she wanted to change they have a spot for her. She is a good teacher. Parents are fighting to get their children in her classes. I used to visit her class and help out. I was amazed at how good she was. It almost brought me to tears..Ofcourse she is special to me!!!
Mima- Brad has that right! and the pharmacies get the rest..Even with insurance they take a pile of money from me when I fill my hubbies meds. He is on brand meds. They don't come in genaric.
Meme- Sounds like a fun trip...
Hello Happy...Joanne
Well, the only med that works for the asthma is Advair and the copay is 35-but after this I will get a 3 months supply for that-I send away. Doc says my problems are with all the weeds and to take advair til Oct-I only get this 2x a year but it's worse than it used to be, He also gave me Amoxocillin.
Daughter sent me a picture of a gown she wants for her wedding. IF all this happens, we will save money because her plans have scaled down!!!!I learned a lot from Brett and Angela's wedding. Luckily Suzanne and I are the only ones making the decisions-Last year was a nightmare. As I told her, one day ata atime. The good news is that before all this happened, they knew they were right for each other. Sure makes you pray.
I am glad that you have this job, Tammy. The classroom is so difficult. especially with fibro.
Brad ordered 2 special allergy filters for my air cleaners. I also need to take aprt the charcoal filters and see if I can replace them. The company that I bought the cleaners from went out of business, I pd 900 for both of them so I sure want to keep them . They have hepa filters.
Happy Birthday to me-we will celebrate another day-prayer meeting tonight. I need that more than anything. We will go out when I feel better.
Hi everyone. Mima
Mima - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope your day is fantastic. I know that you wish you felt better, but one day at a time. It is allergy time here as well, and I live in a small city of 82,000 wiith country all around me, and it is getting on to harvest time.
Joanne - always nice to get a haircut. Enjoy your day.
Tammy - your job sounds like something that may be a little easier for you - I hope that it is.
Hi Meme.
Not much new here. I am going to do some further training on the Drug Screening. The Saliva test is done for alcohol, and that is what I will be learning tomorrow. I guess it never to late to teach an old dog new tricks
That is interesting, Anne. It's very good for the brain to learn something new. When we correct the teacher test, we say that it is Alzheimers prevention-luckily we don't have that.
I had a nice bd-DIL sent me a very funny e-card, Mike said he would take me out when we get to FL-we are having a party on Sat. Brad and Leah brought in cards and a ballon. Brad and I went out to eat and the prayer group sang hb to me and someone prayed for me and said I had a sweet spirit. I am going to have to live up to that today. I wanted pots and pans for my bd and 2 sets will be here soon from Overstock.com
I felt great yesterday but not today. Supposed to go to chiro.
I love to get a haircut. I am getting one next week and highlights.
The wedding plans are on hold-too much pressure. Sure makes sense to me. Even though that would make everything seem better. Like I said before, Suzanne stopped her depression meds and I am sure it is adding to the mix. Please keep praying for them -they so want it to work out.
Hey tammy, how was your meeting. Hi Meme-Mima
My best friend had two masses removed from her breast yesterday. Won't get results back until tomorrow. The waiting is hard.
Went with Daughter to Chattanooga yesterday ... took Ross to a new clinic ... Bipolar. They just did the evaluation yesterday. He is supposed to go back Friday. I think his dad is going with them then. If not I will go. It's a long trip down the mountain from here. I'd rather go to Nashville any day. Bless his heart, Ross got a tummy ache a little over half way through the first session and didn't quite finish the second. He doesn't like answering all those questions. When my daughter went in to talk with them she told me they asked her some stupid questions like could he write thank you notes and address envelopes by himself and would he do things like that without being told and would he clean up his room and pay back money he had borrowed without being told. I laughed outloud. I told her that her brother didn't do that when he was sixteen let alone at the age of ten! We're talking about an all American boy who just turned ten years old last week. I don't see where that has anything to do with being Bipolar.
I've totally done too much the last few weeks. I'm hurting so bad and I have no energy to do anything. I got up this morning and faced a mountain of 'stuff' I need to do. Didn't get any of it done. I took a shower, ate, made the beds and sat down. My skin even hurts. Arthritis and Fribro sucks.
Thanks for the card, meme-I am feeling old and decrepid myself.I see Brad working with Leah who can do all the things I can't-not sure I want to-and it makes me feel so bad. I had a meltdown last night but I finally came to grips with how I felt . Those questions that they asked your d don't make any sense. Poor kid for what he goes through.
Angela had her endoscopy . They found the beginnings of an ulcer and inflammation and something about her esophagus related to gerd. At least there are things that they can do. Obesity is related to it a bit. And she used to smoke. Not fun at 25 but she definitely needs a healthier lifestyle.
All of us know about the weight problems
Suzanne is bringing over stuff for the yard sale. She is so tired but that's normal. I remember that stage.
Bye for now Mima
Hey Mima, don't worry about it. The thing is we are NOT 20 or 30 yrs old any longer, and we seem to be bombarded with all kinds of health issues. Just be thankful that you can do all that you do!
I hope your daughter feels better soon. That first trimester is rough.
Meme - Sending prayers for your friend. I hope she will be ok. That is so silly the questions they ask. Sometimes I think Phsycologists and Physchiatrists are not all there, themselves!!!! I have worked with a few phsycologists and they seemed quite nutty! The certainly do things to the beat of their own drum!
Joanne - Fat is just as bad as carbs for diabetics. It is truly a balance that the body needs. Diabetes runs like a river in our family. My Mom was diabetic and my brother, my nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins and my grandfather. I hope it misses me and my family.
I went for the Cardiac Stress Test this morning and it showed something which MIGHT indicate a blockage, but she wants to do another test. It's a Cardiac Perfusion Study. Sounds delightful! It looks like it is going to take hours for this test. At 12:30 I go back to the hospital for the Pulmonary Test. It's a good thing I live just across the street from the hospital At least I will get LOTS of steps in today
I completed the Saliva Alcohol program yesterday. So now I am a certified Drug Screen Tech. How about that, at 60 yrs. old! Now, I just hope this darn heart of mine allows me to go have fun.
Way to go, Anne. Hope yout tests are ok. It's good to have the hospital across the street!!!! Saves lots of driving.
My daughter is only tired-not queasy. I never had awful morning sickness myself. She is pretty upbeat!! It's contagious.
Are you working hard already, Tammy.
No lights work in lr-just the overhead-hope Brad didn't cut anymore wires. Apt is coming along and also trim on house getting painted. The things I can do are not physical but my brain still works. I miss working. Hope I get a letter soon but I should be finishing up my craft stuff.
We are having a yard sale tomorrow-showers in am-hmmm. I will put up signs and take them down if I have to!!!
I got my new stainless steel pans -awesome. 2 sets-one for FL.
Bye for now, Mima
Anne ... hope all your tests turn out good! My friend got a good report yesterday. Then the doctor told her when he looked at her mammogram he was almost positive it was cancer and then when he operated and saw the two masses he was pretty sure it was. Whe he got the results from the lab back he was shocked to learn that it wasn't. She said it was prayer. I got chills. We had all been praying so hard. Our church had a special prayer and anointing, too.
We're having a 'going-away' party for our pastor's wife at the church tonight ... just the women. I hate to see them leave so bad. It's unbelievable how close we've become in so short a time. I guess it's because we are so much alike ... and the fact that I've taken her place on the piano and in the praise team. (singing) By the way, they just elected me to lead the adult choir so I'm really going to have my hands full! They want me to do a Christmas Cantata, too. A couple of the parents were asking me about taking on a youth choir a couple of Sundays ago. This church has a huge amount of youth. I don't know if I can handle all of that. That's a lot of work ... Besides all that, I play the piano half the time, I rotate with another woman and I sing on the praise team half the time ... that is up in front of the congregation on Sunday ... singing alto in the service. They have all four harmony parts represented on stage instead of just the leader. So each week I either have to go over the piano music or I have to go over my voice part to all the songs that are going to be sung ... on top of what I'm going to lead the choir in ... and my special if I happen to be singing that Sunday (and by the way, I sing with a track and without words.) Like I said ... don't know if I can add another choir to that! I've had youth choirs before (when I was younger) ... they wear me out! PLUS ... there's one mother that's wanting me to help her 2 teenage girls and another girl at church get some songs together in a trio. I need another 8 hrs. in my day, I think!
Hey, Mima ... don't get down because you can't do the things that young girl can do. Just think of all the things you are doing. I get tired just reading about what all you do some days with all your fairs and lunches and company and shopping. Right now my house is so piled up I pray nobody comes over! Hmmm ... have to do something abut that one of these days! Right now I need to go to Wal Mart and get something for tonight and for our Pastor's dinner on Sunday. We're having an all day thing. It's their last Sunday. BOO-HOO!
OH ... P.S.
If you're wondering how I know about the diabetic sites above, hubby has been diabetic for years so I've been dealing with this for a long time.
Joanne, looks like Meme has found some diabetic sites for you! Hope you have luck finding some good information. Your daughter sounds like a great teacher. Only 17 students so far! That would be wonderful.
Mima, planning the wedding will be fun. AND Happy Birthday!!! I'm late! Sorry!!! Plenty of new pans for you to cook for all of us when we come to visit!
Anne, your city is bigger than the county that I live in!! We have about 2200 in the town where I live now. The one I moved from had about 2100. I agree with you about hoping that the diabetes skips you. I'm hoping the same thing for me. Let us know about your tests results!
I do think the job will be easier. We've had two work days. It looks like I will be working with the fifth grade teachers for reading and math. They will do the planning, and all I have to do is show up! I can do that. lol I know I'll be doing something once I show up, but it will be nice compared to the last 29 years. So far things are going ok with the woman I'll be sharing a room with. She needs to calm down or she'll have an ulcer! The custodians just found out that we will be using that classroom. It has been used for storage. Well, the gal I'll be working with was yelling at them because they didn't have things moved out on Tuesday. I was trying to stay calm, and I think I succeeded. Students start Monday, but the principal told us we don't have to start until Wed. or Thurs. so we can have time to get the room ready. She is still spazzing.
Meme, prayers for your friend!!! Those questions don't sound like they have anything to do with someone being bipolar. Amen to arthritis and fibro sucking. Oh, in your spare time, would you come up and help lead our choir at church? You have to say no sometimes young lady!!! I know you enjoy it, but it has to wear you out.
I am going to bed. I am glad that it is the weekend.
Meme. make a list of all those things and then pray that you will pick the ones you are supposed to-NOT ALL OF THEM. It's better to do a few things well than spread ourselves out so thin-then we are no help to anyone.
No wedding plans yet-First they need to get engaged and he wants to surprise her. The good thing is that they knew right from the beginning that they wanted to be together. Going to Fl seems so distant now-but I am sure we will be there for a few months. One day at a time-first she has to get through the first 3 months.
We are having a small yard sale today. Thank God it stopped raining.
I did what you did, Tammy. It would be nice if you could teach them 1-1 also. But all planning together would be nice. Nice job staying calm-there's always someone spazzy.
Now we have to watch Ernesto-go away-go away. Right Joanne.
Did you find out your test results, Anne?
Angela got hers back-she is to stay on the prilosec. And her diet-and to lose weight. So far, she has lost 25. I would imagine being large does not help acid refux. But she is doing well. I told her about Suzanne and she went coocoo. Said she would help plan the wedding-ha-Remember last year-that wasn't Angel-it was her mother. I learned a lot about what I did not want.
Bye , the imsomniac Mima
Meme- Thanks for the sites.. Looks like I am going to have to pay closer attention to labels.Everything is full of salt and has added sugar/carbs.I was reading my S/Beach book . There is a chapter for diabetics. I have not been diagnosed but told that my surgar was high and that I may be type 2. I having Bloodwork this coming week. The Dr. said that the diabetic diet was the best and healty to lose weight and stay on.He said better than S/B. That was one of the things I was looking for. A simple handbook to follow.I don't want to start counting grams and weighing food.
Tammy- Yes ,I am prowd of my daughter.I just hope she doesn't have the kind of year she had last year..They have a new princple(who is being sent to Afghanistan (sp) for 6+ months he is a Col. in the reserves) and she dropped grade leader.. She has had that job for almost 20 years. She just needed to downsize . The one they have now tried dumping her work on my daughter. She was told ,sorry that is your job, now.None of them wanted to share the work,in the past. I think there is a awaking.
Mima- Here you go again.. Another wedding.. We just may get some of Ernesto.. I don't mind the rain. I am not too fond of the wind.I don't like to lose electric lights either.I have never been afraid of the storms.. We don't leave our house..
Hello Happy..We are finally getting the rain we needed. Maybe a storm heading this way.. Makes the weeds and grass grow . More work for the hubby and me.
Have a Good Weekend Everybody...Joanne
Mima, yesterday I was online looking at students' test scores from last spring. I'll be working in small groups with the lower ones, and for those that are really low, it will be 1 on 1. I'm very proud of the kids that I had last year. Very few of them are in the low category on the testing. There is one girl that is on the list, but the day that the Math test was given, she should have stayed home. She was so sick. She missed the cutoff by 1 or 2 points. It won't be hard to work with her at all. lol I was up about 5:30 this morning. We should have gotten on the phone and just chatted!! The dog woke me up. I went back to bed after put him out and fed him though.
Joanne, good for your daughter on giving up that position. And for standing up and saying it wasn't her job anymore. That will be interesting with their Prin. gone for 6 months. Do they have someone to take over that position?
We had a nasty storm go through earlier this evening. Kramer was right with me in the chair. Bob was gone. He came home right afterwards and said when he saw the sky, he decided to go back into the Eagles and sit for a while. Better in there than driving in it.
Bob brought me flowers this morning!! After the two work days at school, I was really achy and tired. He thought the flowers might brighten my day. He was right. I did take a long nap this afternoon. I'm going to bed soon so I can get up and get to church on time.
