dieting with diabetes #3
Well night #2 and I'm still tring to get the sleep cycle turn around. But feeling surprisingly good. I'm starting to feel like I have a bit more energy. That's going to be a real plus working this outage. I haven't jumped on the scale in 2 weeks, so not really sure what it will show. Right now I'm trying to concentrate more on the way I'm feeling. And how the cloths may be fitting.
I've always found in the past that the scale seemed to be my down fall. I'd obcess over the number and not how I was feeling. So I'll wait awhile before I take that step. :dizzy: How is everyone doing with the challange. Any new results, or new tricks. Thanksgiving is right around the corner. So lets hear those sucess storys. hope everyone is doing well. deb ;) |
Hi, Deb - Looks like we're alone for the moment. Great work on stayinng OP. :cb: I think you're smart not to let the scale be your measurement right now. I'm still having trouble getting on the wagon. I do alright during the day but then I blow it at night. Last night was especially bad and I ended up getting a bag of grease from Micky D's. Feel lousy today. That should teach me. :rollpin: Take Care.
|
Rosetta don't give in, remember to just keep trying. I had a little slip my self today. This schedule is starting to take it's toll. When you first get started your body dosn't know when to eat or sleep. This morning I woke up around 11:00 and was starving, but still sleepy. So I went to the kitchen, fixed myself a PBJ ate it and went back to sleep. I'm really kicking myself right now. But I'm just going to try to move on and not dwell on it. :(
Hope everyone will not have any trouble following us over :?: Mean while you hang in there, I'll be thinking about you tonight and sending good vibes your way. Deb :D |
Hi All,
I know I haven't been around for awhile, but after getting my blood test results my doctor said I really needed to get off atkins. My body like my mothers did, produces sooo much cholesterol and my shot thru the roof from bad to OMG! So I'm back to WW. I joined last thurs. A friend of mine at work joined tues and I went to get weighed after only 5 days (and I wasn't very good on the weekend at all) and I lost 1.4lbs. I feel like that no carb stress is off me, but I do still try to avoid the whites (potatoes, rice, flour etc..) but I still haven't licked it. But believe it or not, even with carbs back in, the numbers are starting to inch down a little. I'm also trying to exercise at least 4 mornings a week to start. My husband bought me a gazelle ultra. I've only used it once but it's pretty cool. I can watch the early morning news without blasting the tv because it's so quite(the :tread: makes so much noise) I could only do 20 minutes but it's a start. Deb, how are you feeling since starting the diabetic atkins? And how's work? I know you work some killer hours. Pat, I'm trying to remember the last thread, but I think you went off lipitor. What happened? They just started me again. I was on it before and went off because of shoulder and arm pain, but the doctor said to give it a chance again as the benefits outweigh those side effects which usually ease up some, so we'll see. Are you on something else with better results. (and I wonder if it's in my head, it's only been 4 days and I swear my shoulders and arms hurt already) Rosey, sounds like your doing great. WW is a great program. I'm not counting carbs though. Still having trouble sticking to points. I blow it at night during dinner. If I didn't have to cook I probably wouldn't eat, but once I make it, I eat it, even the stuff I shouldn't have. It's been a little worse lately. My cycle is all screwed up. Think it's peri-menapause(sp?) aaahhhh  Well, I know I've missed some posts, and responses. I will try to jump back in. I still think this is a great group here. Welcome to the newbies. ttyl |
hi all
been trying to be good but so many temptations and dh keeps tempting me. how is everybody else doing?
deb understand you nights dh works nites and it is hard with everybody else working days. rosetta hang in there nights are bad for me too. donna i fell so much better off lipitor, he gave me something else but that was the same and i haven't called back. don't know what my cholesterol is doing. find out in dec. hi to the rest of you. pat |
Hi everyone.. i am back.. we were out of town for a dr apt for dh..why are we always changing the post ?? my last group we had posts numbering in the thousands before we started a new one..just wondered??seems everyone doing well.. i had a few oops whiles out of town(a pece of pie won :?: ) but am back at it today..meadow asked about counting carbs and ww..i avoid high carb foods when i can..white flour etc..use whole wheat products and lo-carb products.. and count my ww pts but for the carb food items i also write down the carbs..like locarb bread..2 ww pts.. 6 crbs per peice..when i reach my pts allowed for the day i stop.. also with the carbs.. you need a carb counting book..it helps..i like the frredom of choice with the ww etc..ive noticed i have more energy.. my sugars are great.. and im moving better..im not trying to focus on the numbers altho they are impt..i just want to feel better.. dont know if ive lost as didnt know where i was when i started.. the curves scale didnt go that high and boy was i embarassed :?: i got to see my grandkids while we were gone.. i love those hugs..donna sry about the collesteral thing..i take zocor and dont have any side affects from it except my numbers went from 236 down to 168..my dr was very happy with me..hope all have agreat day drink your water((((hugs))))))))) rosey

Hey gang :tired: Still hanging in there but man am I beat. The good news is tonight will be the last in a week and then a get 1 whole night off. Thank goodness this is only going to last a couple of more weeks. WE hope :crossed: I'm still watching the carbs but have to admit its harder with this goofy schedule. Any tips on how to make it easier would be great. And also how not to become bored with the whole thing. I'm starting to crave something different. I'm hoping this will not be the undoing of me :(
Rosey aren't we glad one piece of pie won't win the war. I know all to well sometimes they just call out to you and you can't resist. Pat hope your feeling better and the cholesterol is doing ok. Try watching you fatty foods that should help. Donna keep us posted on how the WW is working I may need a switch. Well everyone have a good night. Deb |
Hi all. Took some time off to clear my head. Helped a little but I'm still struggling. Hopefully, this week will be better. My biggest problem is at night so I've decided that I'm going to eat low cal earlier in the day (lots of little meals) and then have slim fast at night and see if that keeps me away from temptation. I don't like to cook just for myself so I tend to get takeout meals so opening a can is much easier.
Donna - good luck with WW. That may be good for you longterm with some modifications for diabetes. I take Lipitor and have no side effects. I took Zocor before that with no problem. I switched because my ins. stopped covering Zocor. How's that Gazelle? Is it as easy to use as it looks on tv? Rosey: Forget the pie. Just get back on the wagon and keep going to Curves. I think you're already feeling the positive results. How're those crafts going? Deb: Maybe it's time to weigh yourself to see how the program is going. It's a risk but if you've lost weight then you may be motivated to stay on lo-carb for awhile longer. Have you tried making up a bunch of little snacks to take to work? Cut up veggies, a little piece of laughing cow low calorie cheese, pieces of fruit, etc. Hang in there. |
Hey everyone, I know I've been MIA for a couple of days. Had a day off and was helping hubby paint the house. Then it's been back to work and the hecktic schedule. Hopefully this is only going to last another couple of weeks.
Rosetta by the time I get home the only thing I want to get on these days is the bed. But I did notice that my shirts seem to have a little more room in them. And it felt good. So I'm still pluging along, and not feeling like I'm craving the carbs as much anymore. But I do miss my rice. That's one thing we're big on in Louisianna. But oh well. Hope everyone is still with us. I really like hearing from all you gals. have a great one deb |
Well here I am. Been looking at the post for days. And nothing. Has our little group fallen apart.
DEB |
:) Hi Deb. I've been reading but just haven't felt like posting. The others will come back eventually -- or new ones will join. Saw the doc yesterday and weighed in. As bad as I thought. Time to get serious. How are you doing? If your clothes are getting loose that's a good sign. Keep it up. I'm not a rice eater but I have a hard time giving up bread, especially sandwiches. And bagels - our office has bagels & cream cheese every Friday and I'm having a hard time ignoring them. Sort of sets me up for the weekend. Are you celebrating Halloween? I'm not looking forward to Monday because people usually bring in their leftover candy and I'm a fool for bite size Snickers, etc. Well, I'm going to pass that up this year. :p I hope you get some rest this weekend and don't have to do more housepainting. TTYL

Hello Ladies
Sorry I've been AWOL for awhile. Haven't been feeling that great lately :dz:
I saw a new doctor this past week, and I'm going for a 2 hr GTT sometime next week to determine if I'm a type 2 diabetic. My sugar has been borderline for some time, but I've never had the test. :crossed: I hope it comes back o.k.-I've got enough health probs already! :dizzy: Hope you're all doing well. This is a hard season of the year to be watching what we eat, but we're ALL WORTH IT! :eating2:  Have a great weekend! |
i am still here. feeling much better, now i have the energy to do some other things so may not be here as much till i catch up. food is so so. i think i have lost 5 lbs, happy halloween! pat
|
WOW I thought everyone fell off the face of the earth. Glad to hear from everyone. Tonight I've got one heck of a pounding headache. But trying to work through it. Eating has been ok. But I'm just not really hungry much on this screwed up shift.
Pat 5 pounds is great. You know every pound counts with our numbers and thats half way to the challange. :bravo: Homebound don't let the GTT get you down if it comes back positive. We are here and have all been through the same thing. you've got lots of support here. :crossed: Rosey I wish I had your energy. At the rate you move you should weigh 97 lbs. Keep up the work at curves, if its getting easier then you're doing something right. :strong: Rosetta I'm still painting on that dang house. Don't let yourself stay in the dumps. Try bringing something else to have with everyone on Friday in place of the bagles. Low cal meat and cheese wraps are good, and you would be surprized they make a great breakfast. You can even make them with a lite cream cheese and that way you'd still have half of your bagle combo. And you wouldn't have to cook a thing. I'm thinking of ya. :flow2: Deb |
Hi everybody,
I know I haven't been around much. Lot's of stress around here. My dear uncle who lived with my family my entire life(up until 7yrs ago when he moved into assisted living across the street from me) was in the hospital the last few weeks and passed thursday nite. It took me 2 weeks to get him out of the VA hospital in the Bronx(he did not want to be there) and back up to the VA near me( where he worked and retired from) I finally got him up here wed of last week and he was only supposed to be there for 2 wks rehabilitation(he had a foley cath) Well, he died very peacefully at the age of 88 reading a Mary Higgins Clark novel. I visited him the nite he passed and he seemed ok accept for he was a little stressed from all the tests and the thought of all the docs they wanted him to see(he hadn't been to a doc in 59yrs) So I think he just wanted to go. The wake was today and the funeral is tomorrow morning. He only has one brother left. (out of 10 siblings) So I've been handling everything as his brother is flat on his back. So I haven't been following any plan. And tonight the :) got me and now I feel :o I'm glad everyone sounds like they are doing well. Rosey with the energy of a white tornado. Deb, the pace you keep makes me tired. What do you think of the diabetic atkins? Sounds like it's working. Pat, 5lbs!! woo hoo :cp: Rosetta, we both have to get up, brush ourselves off and get going. :coach: Well, I hope everyone had a good weekend. Happy :) Halloween!! :p |
Hi, all. I'm staying late at the office to netsurf and my fingers are frozen. The diet soda doesn't help, but... I'm back OP today. Brought my lunches to work for the week so I don't "forget" one and end up with a sandwich. I've been peeing all day so I must have lost a few pounds of water.
Pat - wow. 5 lbs. Way to go! I wish I had some of your energy. That's one of the motivations to lose weight. I'm tired all the time. Rosey - Aren't you happy you stuck with Curves? You're feeling the payoff now. Joanne - sorry you're not feeling well. Hope your GTT is negative, but if not, as Deb said, you have support here. Donna - So sorry about your uncle. Even though he had a long life it's still sad to see someone go. I bet you're exhausted from all the arrangements you've had to make. I know you'll get back OP when things calm down. Deb - I hope your headache is gone. Sounds like your work schedule is working to your advantage foodwise. Congratulations on staying OP. |
Well Donna my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
As for the Atkins I do think its catching up with me. I seem to be having a bout of consti - you know what. And It's a real pain in the you know where. :( SO I'm not feeling my best to say the least. :dizzy: for now we'll just see where this leads. I'm really tired also. I'm just slap out of it today. Hope everyone else is doing well. Deb |
hi
deb be sure you are drinking enough water for the const- if all elxer fails try chocolate with malitol. donna [hugs] hope all gets better, rosetta you sound like you are op. good going, hi to rosey abd joanne. pat |
Hi, Deb. Your tiredness might come fromt he screwy schedule. However, it may help if you take a daily vitamin to cover anything missing from your diet. As to your --ahem-- Pat has a good idea about water. I don't know what the malitol is but it's probably like metamucil or other such things on the drugstore shelf. You might also consider getting some wheat or oat bran and putting a couple of spoonfuls in your juice or some other liquid. I've bought some oat bran for that purpose and also eat Kavli crackers or Ry Crisp with my meals. It helps. Anyway, I hope you get over this problem soon and are back to your old self.
I've managed to stay op so far today. My problem is I wake up during the night and am so hungry I can't get back to sleep. I eat as late as possible but that doesn't seem to help. Maybe I'll get some nonfat milk and drink a glass when I wake up. :moo: |
This is for Donna. I've been meaning to ask - how do you download the ticker and get it in your post? I haven't a clue. :?:
|
Well here to say things are finally moving along.   And boy am I glad.
Rosetta I've never been much for taking vitamins But you may have something. In fact I used to not take many pills at all. But we all know that's now a thing of the past. So what's one more. I have been adding a few carbs back into the diet. Not many but I think I had cut back way to far. Right now I'm at 30 gr. a day. Trying to eat smarter so I get the bigest bang for the buck so to speak. And have noticed that I feeling a little better than before. I think cutting back to far and keeping the long hours may have put my system into stress mode. So I'm trying the check and adjust thing right now. Did finally get on the scale and lost 6 pounds. I'm glad I haven't been a slave to the scale. I know in the past it just always messed with my head if I didn't see the scale move everyday. I know that's not realistic, but try telling that to a woman of size. Donna hope your feeling much better, and I still have you in my thoughts and prayers. Rosetta and Pat thanks for the tips. Hope everyone is doing well. Love ya, Deb :flow1: |
Deb - :bravo: for losing those 6 pesky pounds. You're well on your way to the Thanksgiving Challenge goal. Glad you're feeling better. Good idea to add back in some carbs if you're feeling squiffy. I slept a little better last night but am hungry all the time. :hun: Although I'm not following Atkins my low calorie diet is pretty low carb and low fat and I'm getting cravings for bread and butter. sigh. But today is day three and I've been op so far. As for vitamins, I take a daily Centrum Silver and just count it out with my weekly pills. Am thinking of adding those calcium chews too, but I'll check out the calorie count first.
Keep on trucking (as we said in the '70s). |
Hi everyone.. sry ive not posted..we have had a bizzard and power outages.. i guess winter is here to saty :?: am leaving for curves soon.. i am noticing a diff in how i feel..but the scales arent budging :?: i guess i need to pay more attention to how much i am eating even tho i have been making good choices..what i really want is a whole pie and a pot of coffee im craving sweets again :?: i made a batch of sf russian tea..its nice and hot and sweet but no sugar..its one jar of instant tea..12 tubs of sf crystal lite sunrise or sf tang..i pkg of koolaide lemonade powder..3 tsps cinnamon..mix all together.. add one tsp to cup of boiling water.. you can adjust to taste..some like it sweeter so you can add more if you like.. i drink this all the time.. maybe you all would like it too..congrats to all the loosers  and continued success for us all (((((hugs)))))) rosey

Need Help
HI Everyone,
My name is Alana and I have type 2 diabetes and I have just started the GI diet would like any advice you could give me , I have always had a weight problem and have tried heaps of diets and always lose the battle I need help :?: So I have decided to look for help though finding people with the same problems Thanks for listen hope you can help me Alana :coffee: Ps how do download the tracker |
Hi all:Rosey, I'm thinking Cherry pie!   Your drink recipe sounds intriguing. Doesn't the caffeine keep you awake? You might want to start keeping a food journal to see how much you're eating. There may be something sneaking in there that's keeping you from losing. I guess your winter has arrived. The only snowy winter I have experienced was the year I lived in Iowa. that was enough for me. Our winter has arrived early too. Cold (like 50 degrees  ) and some rain. Yippee! I've been OP for the 4th day in a row. Feel better. The weekend will be the test. Hope you had a good workout at Curves.
Alana - are you taking any medications? That will make a difference in how you lose weight. Glucophage (Metformin) will help you lose, but all the others, like Actos, Glucotrol, etc., make it difficult, but not impossible to lose. As for diet, the guidelines for diabetics are somewhat vague, but basically it means eating frequent small meals and controlling the carbs and fats. There are websites with good information, such as the American Diabetes Association. Both WebMD and Dr.Weil.com have special sections for diabetes information. I have a lot of weight to lose so I'm doing a low calorie diet, keeping the GI in mind. Deb (2round) has recently started Atkins for diabetics. Do you have a nutritionist available in your health plan? That might be a place to start. Exercise is very important, something I need to address. keep coming back to this thread and let us know how you're doing. As for the tracker, I got the instructions from another thread, I don't recall which one. anyway, go to tracker.com, copy the instructions in "v bulletins" (this is the first one you come to) come back to 3fc, click "quick links" then "edit signature" and paste tracker in there. I think you have to go back and recopy and paste every time you want to change the number. Deb - how ya doing? |
Hi everyone..wanted to let yall know i was weighed and measured today at curves..still cant weigh on their scale :?: but the measuring showed ive lost 3 1/4 inches whohooooooooo i was really happy with that..and i know ive lost just not how much yet.. wanted to share :D (((((((hugs)))))))) rosey

Hey all I'm here again on the nite shift. I slept for about 10 hrs. must have needed the rest. So now I'm feeling great.
Rosetta just hang in there. The cravings will go away. If this were easy none of us would be here. Glad your sticking to plan. :cp: Rosey sorry you've been without power. I guess that's not that uncommon in your neck of the woods. But your doing great with sticking to Curves. And maybe looking at your intake will do the trick. Never heard of the tea but I'm a real Tea drinker and am looking forward to trying this for the winter months. :coffee: Welcome Alana hope you will enjoy our group. We all are here to help eachother in the fight over weight while trying to manage our diabetes. It's alot to handle all at once but you'll find a real nice group of women here who are supportive and have lots of great ideas. We'll be glad your here. Well I really have to get some work done so ta ta for now. Deb  |
Rosey: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Hi, all. Still OP. did eat the bagel & cream cheese this morning but compensated for it the rest of the day. Maybe next week I'll just have half a bagel. ;) The weekend will be the big test. May try the scale tomorrow and see if I've lost anything. Have to go home now and do the laundry. Yuk.
Have a good weekend. |

|
Well it sounds as if everyone is doing good. Rosetta you have just about gotten over the hump. I know you can do it. I'm sending goooooood Vibes your way to get you through till morning. :dizzy:
Rosey if it ever got below zero here nothing would survive. Don't know how you do it. I also enjoy crafts but don't have much time these days. Today my mother-in-law asked me if I was loosing weight. It was a nice feeling. Hope I can continue. Got to go to work now. Check in tomorrow. Deb :) |
Hi, all. Rosey, I bet you make great snowmen. I don't do crafts. Have taken classes in pottery and off-loom weaving, but I don't have any talent there. The most crafty thing I do is occasionally color mandalas as a form of meditation. I used to write, but don't have the energy these days. If I were locked up all winter I'd probably go nuts or become a tv junkie. :dizzy:
Deb, good going with your MIL. Of course you can continue. I made it through the weekend with only minor slips. Down about 4 lbs, I think. (my weigh-in is complicated). I should know for sure how much I've lost by next week. I feel lighter today (like I should weigh 120  ) My blood sugar was only 135 this morning -- it's usually been 170-180, so I must be doing something right.Have a nice evening. |
Yeah Rosetta your on the right track. :cp: I'm so glad you have pulled yourself up by the bootstraps. If you can see a marked difference in your readings your doing it right. And feeling better is just an added bonus.
I'm up a little too early today. But have so much to do in my house. Of course all the help DH said was going to come my way has not exactly materialized, and I'm starting to dread walking into my own house. :( So today I give up some sleep. Check in later. Deb |
Hi, Deb -- I'm still slogging along. Getting a little bored with the diet so I'll have to think up something different for next week. I've been bringing my lunch for the week to work on Monday so I don't have any excuses to "forget" it and end up at the local deli. Tell your dh to get off his derriere and give you some help!  In the meantime I hope you get some rest. :flow2: TTYL

DonnaD.... Lipitor and muscle pain..
Hi DonnaD,
I just wanted to pop in (I'm usually a lurker) and ask you if it had ever been suggested that you supplement with CoQ10 while you're taking lipitor. Lipitor is a statin and it's been commonly associated with muscle pain and weakness. Although some Dr.s say this is hooey... most people I know say once they added the CoQ10 into their diet, their pain eventually went away. Don't let the Dr. tell you it's all in your head either... ;) I'll pop back out to lurker mode, but if you just google on statins and CoQ10 you will find lots of info. Good luck to you! sbbo :D |
Co-enzyme Q
Thanks for the reminder sbbo. Actually Co-Enzyme Q is one of the supplements recommended for diabetics, along with chromium and, I think, Lycopene. Dr.Weil.com has info for diabetics and recommends this. Co-Enzyme Q is good for the heart. I take Lipitor but haven's experienced any problems. Have been thinking about Co-E Q for awhile. It's expensive and you have to be careful taht you're getting what you pay for.
|
Hi, I do a lot of lurking.
I have been on with Wanted Support on the Buddy list headed up by Bulging2Much. I lurk on the 100 club most of the time. I would also like to learn from your group too. I'm trying to use mostly the GI way of eating. I gained past my SW and by 3 lbs and lost 2 back off. My BP has been around 130/77 and today it was 116/67. I'm so excited! My sugar is still more that I like. Do you eat carbs in the evening(potatoes, etc)? If you do should I cut it off so many hours before bed? |
Rosetta I've never heard of Co-E-Q. What is it, and why is it a good thing for diabetics. I'm still so new to this that there are tons of things for me to learn. A 5 min. doc appt. every 6 months is not teaching me what I need to know.
Today in the bathroom I actully noticed I can reach areas that have been hard to reach with more easy. I know I've lost, But not sure how much. :D Maybe time to revisit the scale. I just think I'm doing so much better by not obcessing over it. It's a great idea to have your food at work for lunch. Sounds like you just need to vary the menu a bit. I know you don't like to cook. But I've found that when I fix my meals and vacuum seal the leftovers in single portions it helps me stay on track even when I'm not in the mood to cook. ;) Well I found out tonight that next week will be my last week on the night shift. I am ready to get back to the world. And DH even misses me a bit. He cooked today, and even cleaned up afterward. I was amazed. :sunny: Deb |
