Hi, all. Oldwriter, lurkers are welcome. I lurk at other forums, too, including the 100 club. Here we are all trying to lose weight and deal with our diabetes. None of us has the perfect program, but working with the GI is a good start. WTG on your blood pressure! As for blood sugar, mine has gone down since I've been on a relatively strict diet the past two weeks, although my morning numbers are still high. I've been counting calories rather than carbs and I'm afraid I eat dinner late - 9ish. That may explain the high a.m. numbers. I get home late (deliberately) because otherwise I would eat two lean cuisine dinners instead of one. Also, I can't get to sleep if I'm hungry. It's probably not a good idea to eat a whole bunch of carbs before you go to bed. If you cook, load up on low-GI vegs and minimize the potatoes, etc. I would suggest adding a planned snack later that will satisfy you. Keep posting and let us know how you're doing.
Deb - WTG on the reach problem! :D I'm sure you've lost a good bit of weight, but if you feel better not looking at the scale, there's no reason to. Co-Enzyme Q-10 is a powerful antioxidant, which means it counteracts free radicals (the stuff that causes disease). Most doctors won't mention it because it's a supplement and considered alternative therapy, but I've heard enough good things about it to consider it. I just don't want to start taking it then stop. I really recommend Dr.Weil.com. I suscribe to his newsletter. This month is National Diabetes Awareness month so he's highlighting that. Thanks for the food tips. I should do more cooking, and if I can figure out how to do it once a week, I will. I'm thinking of making a chopped salad to bring to work for the week. For dinner, I've been relying on Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice. It's easy for me, especially since I have real problems with portion control. I budget in a small glass of red wine to wash it down with so it's not too unpleasant. They now have a line of low carb meals too. That's great that you see the end of the nightshift. Give DH a great big kiss to reinforce his helpful behavior. :D |
Yoohoo where is anyone? My Wednesday post didn't appear on the update. Wonder why? Anyway, I'm still OP, getting used to being a little hungry all the time. Very busy at work today so can't linger. Happy weekend.
|
hi everyone just a quick drive by to say i am still here, food bad, working full time and only used to part time. looks like everyone doing well. post more later. have a good weekend. pat
|
Rosetta WTG :bravo: Just keep hanging in there. After a couple of weeks you won't even feel hungry anymore. Your body is going through an adjustment right now. Just watch out for all the sodium in the pre-packaged dinners. But if they help you stay OP. Just compensate by cutting the salt elsewhere. Boy wouldn't it be a drag to get your blood suger down, just to see your BP go up. Some days you just can't win.
Pat just don't let the stress of the extra hours get to you. Do a little planing ahead on meals if you can. Old writer Glad you can find us of some help. I also say watch those carbs. It's really working for me right now. Not that I don't eat carbs. But I keep them to a limit of 2 servings per day, and really watch the portion size. I really think the portion size is the key. It's so easy to get a little heavy handed with the carbs because it takes so little to really add up. Here lately I've started trying new things like turnips instead of potatoes. When boiled they really taste almost the same, or so I tell myself. Give it a try, you might be surprized. Well I hate to get to long winded. So I'm out for now. Everyone have a great weekend. Deb :flow1: |
Sorry I've been MIA
Hi everyone,
Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. Things are pretty much back to normal. We have a nasty cold going thru the house over the week and a half(started at the wake) But everyone is feeling better. I'm still not feeling quite right but I think it's a combo of the cold, allergies, TOM just finishing and also just finishing my first week of SBD induction. Sometimes the drop in carbs initially makes for headaches and such. I've been feeling a little dizzy but it not low BS, it's still pretty high though I'm down 6.5lbs in 5 days. (that reminds me to change the ticker.) Rosetta, sorry I didn't post here til today and just saw your post for instructions. But I see Deb explained it well. Sounds like the calorie counting is working for you. I hate concentrating on food so much. Of course we're hungry, we have to think about food all the time. How much, low carb, low fat, what time.....aggghhhh! But keep plugging away. We all have to. My morning readings are still high and my carbs are very low but exercise has been non existant because I haven't been feeling well. Got to get the butt in gear. :coach: Deb, Sounds like your doing well OP. Are you still doing diabetic Atkins? So glad your going to start days again. woo hoo! Pat, Deb is right. Try not to stress too much. I've been stressing alot with my middle son and some other crap going on. Sometimes I think I can't take anymore and I stop and think of what I have and it gets me back to reality. I'm luckier than I think. But when you need to vent, come here. Everyone is great here and will listen anytime you need. We're here for ya chickadee :grouphug: SBBO, thanks for the info on the CoQ10. I've heard of it but never looked too far into it. I will ask the doc about it also. Thanks again. Rosey, Oh Rosey, Snow, storms...I just don't know how you do it. I get so depressed and lazy in the winter and here you are going to curves and so much energy. You are part of my winter inspiration. Thank you. ;) Well, I'm sorry if I missed anyone. ttyl :D |
Hi everyone..i have been trying to post for days and keep loosing them :?: congrats to all loosers..and welcome to all lukers  i do that too..we have had more snow trouble but finally got the snowblower repaired so we could clean up the 4 ft mess on my steps..i finally got out of the house yesterday 1st time all week..now its warmed up and raining :?: and very icy out.. i didnt get to curves all week cuz of weather..i felt like a kid on a snow hoiliday but i know i will pay for the absence tomorrow when i go back..are you all thinking of thanksgiving and what you are cooking??we have a crowd here but i only cook the bird stuffing and gravy.. every one else brings the rest..do you plan for diebetic foods or do you take holidays as eat what i want day??...i do both..it does take some planning but worth it..so what do all of you do?? hope you are all having a great weekend ((((((((hugs))))))) rosey
|
Rosey glad you got through. We have missed your energy. As far as Thanksgiving, this yaer I'm kind of left to what ever the family will be fixing. This outage will take me right up to the holiday and cooking will be out of the question. My main goal is to make wise choices, and watch portion sizes. I will allow for 1 sweet item, after all it's the holidays.
Donna I'm glad to hear that things are getting back to normal for your family. You are right about the having to think about food all the time. It's enough to make you crazy. But you've done well so far you can get back in the groove. I'm hoping everyone is doing well and keep those readings down. Till later. Deb |
Well I went to the doctor today. Bad news, I've got tendonites in my right hand, and am doing this all 1 handed. I've been wrapped till the end of the week.
GOOD NEWS I'm down a total of 11 pounds. So I made my Thanksgiving goal. Write more later. Deb |
HI, good to hear from everyone. Pat - it must be hard to go from parttime to fulltime work. You might want to try having just one meal OP, whichever one is the easiest. Donna, you've been through a lot but seem to be doing well to have stayed on SB for a week! Don't let TOM talk you into carb loading. :cb: 6.5 lbs! Rosey - snowbound -- I hope you get out to Curves -- you're doing so well. I'm going to a restaurant on Thanksgiving so will have built-in portion control and no seconds. I'm going to enjoy myself. Deb -- great news about the 11 lbs. :cp: :dancer: :balloons: I knew you were getting somewhere! I hope the tendonitis goes away soon. It's a b----h. I have chronic tendonitis in my right shoulder and left achilles, which makes it very hard to exercise. :( O, by the way, I, too have met the Thanksgiving challenge - another 6 lbs gone. Yippee!.
|
Hi everyone
Sorry I've been away for a while :^: I'm still making progress on my weight. I don't know if I've lost the 10 pounds for the Thanksgiving challenge, but I'm close :) . I STILL haven't done the GTT-stuff happens. :p I have to admit that I'm giving myself reasons why I shouldn't (my weight loss is progressing, I feel o.k., etc.) . I AM watching my carbs & portion sizes, trying to eat more vegetables, etc. Right now, I'm dealing with a lot of health/personal problems :( . I know a lot of you are going through the same things
Deb: I hope your tendonitis clears up soon :) AKA Rosey: 4 feet of snow-YUCK :p ! I hope it clears up so you can get back to Curves-keep up the good work! Rosetta & everyone who's met the Thanksgiving challenge: :dancer: :cb: :cheer: WTG! |
WTG rosetta :bravo: please excuse punchuation 1 hand ya know. our girls have done well the last 2 months.
rosey don't let those excuses creep up on you. your doing great. :) do that dance around the house thing if you can't get out. at least you'll be moving. homebound you hang tough if your close there's still time. and your in a better place than you started. that's great considering your challanges with excerize. i'm really proud of us all. we've done really well and overcome some real hardships. it just proves we can do this if we help eachother. this is getting a little long with 1 hand so i'll check in tomorrow. love ya all deb |
Joanne - Glad you're back. We missed you. Sounds like you're doing well even with all your problems. Hope those resolve soon. :grouphug: Pretty good with one hand. Do you play the piano? Hope that tendonitis goes away before the holidays. Whaddya think about an xmas challenge to keep us motivated? Say 5 lbs?
|
Oops - that part of the post after the hug is for Deb. :dizzy:

hi everyone. i am new to this site. i am so glad i found you all. i am type one diabetic of 21 years. i am 25 years old, so i have had diabetes most of my life. i am currently 145 pounds, and trying to hit 120-125 pounds. it is soooo hard. i run, but as most of us, i have to eat to replenish low boodsugARS. sometimes all i can do is cry from the frustration. i am really tired alot, i use an unsulin pump, and try to run as often as i can, which is usually 3 times a week. not enough. does anyone else suffer from teh high bloodsugars after working out? and the lows during? its like a battle i dont know if i can win. but i am really glad i see i am not alone. god bless you all. and thank you for having me
|
oh i also need to add, i lost about 20 pounds two years ago, but i go back and forward between 143-146. i dont know what i am doing wrong. i dont over eat, i dont think, but i know i eat more due to low bloodsugars. i take more insulin due to high bloodsugars...it's so tiring
|
Hi everyone...i did get back to curves :cp: i went monday and also today..i got compliments today..someone noticed my progress.. thats was fun..makes me more inspired..congrats to all of us for doing a good job and supporting each other..we got the snow removed then it rained and melted and last nite and today you guessed it more snow..typical alaskan winter  am so proud of all us loosers  i know ive lost just not sure how much.. i am working on panoramic x-mas ornaments.. you make all the scenes with sculpey baking clay.. bake them and then put wet clay in clear glass ornaments and put the tiny items thru the top.. and arrange them..sorta like building a ship in a bottle..they are alaskan themed and yesterday iwas making moose as small as 1/4 of an inch..time consumming but fun..as all have to fit thru that little hole..i sell them locally..those fleece blankets sound fun.. are they the ones that you fringe and tie?? as i have made those..its neat to exchange ideas and im up for any challenge..yay for all of us..((((((((hugs)))))))) rosey
|
Hi a quick ps ..welcome stephaniesat we must have been posting at the same time..didnt want you to think i ignored you.. we are a great support group..im diebetic type 2 but my dad was a type one.. am sorry you are frustrated..i know it seems like all we focus on is food when all we want is to weigh less :?: hang in there..rosey
|
Rosey i'm so happy for you. i know even the smallest compliment can make your day. and when your working as hard as you it can be a big boost. but moose so small. my eyes would never even let me see to attempt such. you go girl.
stephanie it can be a real battle to loose those last pounds. and to keep blood sugers balanced in the act is even harder. most of us are fighting the high side of the blood suger battle, so yours is a harder trick, but we are here to listen and help in any way. glad you stopped by. well looks like we finally got this plant going in the right direction. my boss had the nerve to wake me at 8:30 am to ask if i wanted to work a day shift on sunday. i'm thinking i need some of what he's been smoking. friday is going to be my last all nighter. yeahhhhhhhhhhhh. i'm starting to smell the turkey. hope everyone had a good day. hugs. deb |
Rosey - Whoopie - you're definitely on the right track. You must have great eyes to do all that fine work. Bet those ornaments are terrific! My mother once made some out of eggshells, draining the eggs through a hole in the top, drying them out, then cutting out a hole in one side where she put angel hair and little stickers to make a scene. Painted them gold and ran a string through the hole in the top to hang them. I didn't inherent her craft ability.
Stephanie - welcome to our thread. I am Type 2 and am currently taking 3 drugs to control my blood sugar. I have been OP (on diet program) for almost three weeks and along with some weight loss, my sugars have been going down. Because of orthopedic problems, I haven't been exercising, but I'm going to change that soon and then will have to be more concerned with low blood sugar. I have a couple of suggestions for you. Maybe since running is bringing down your sugar too far, you might want to consider switching to walking for awhile and doing it every day or most days. This may be easier on you and you might not get so tired. As to eating, you may be eating more than you think you are. Try keeping a food diary for a week or so, adding up calories. The result might surprise you. I would also suggest that you check out one of the calorie calculators (WebMD has one) and figure out how many calories you need to maintain your desired weight, say 125. Then plan your diet around that number and divide it in to small meals so that you are prepared for the times when your sugar gets too low. If you continue to be tired and you can't find a reason for it, you probably should check with your doctor. In the meantime, please come here often. This is a place where you can receive and give support. :goodvibes Deb - Great news. Here's something for your boss:  |
thank you rosey. thank you. i will keep doing my best. if i give i will never get there, if i keep trying, at least i can say i did.
|
Just stopping by to say "HI" and have a nice weekend.
|
i just wanted to say thank you to the last person who wrote. i will get the calorie counter u suggested. i just bought a book form of one, but it is tedious to use, though i use it. maybe a computerized one would be better. thank u. i really appreciate everyone's advice. it is so weird to have nice people on the COMPUTER of all places. thank you. u all have warmed my heart. god bless u all...

No more lurking for me
;) Hello, I have been here reading all your posts and feel at this time I would like to add some input. I am a teacher in So. Calif and raise birds as a hobby. I belong to Peta and just about every other concerned animal rights org. on the west coast. I was told I have type2 diabetes in July of this year and have been kind of in shock ever since, I need to lose about 30 pounds to get where I`m supposed to be, and the older I get the harder it is.I`ll be 60 this next year.Would love to be a part of your group. Thank You :coffee:
|
Hi Stephanie, Welcome aboard. We have a great group here. I am type II and
ashamed to say, not controlling it well. But I'm trying. I just am not consistent. It's understandable, your frustration. You have been living with this since your a child. You're actually one of the many strong brave people out there who have grown up with a disease that many of us can't even deal with a much less severe version of. I give you so much credit and admiration. Makes me feel silly for ever complaining. I've been trying to deal with type 2 for less than 10 yrs as an adult and so many children grow up with type I. So a great big :grouphug: to you. I think running 3 x a week is great. I know even a small 20 min low impact workout helps my readings. I've been going on the gazelle for 20 min about 5 days a week and see improvements. Of course I will need to increase the time & intensity over the next few weeks, but sometimes it gets to a point where it seems you would have to increase it to a point that theres no time or you lose interest. But I feel some is better than none. So maybe walking as Rosetta suggested is worth a try and then throw in a run every couple of day. Remember, the less you have to lose, the harder it is. I know 20 lbs seems like alot, but slow and steady you'll get there. Rosey, Congrats on all the success. Your doing just great. I was reading about you doing the precise work for the ornaments and thinking about the change in my eyesight over the last few weeks. I went to the eye doc last march and my reading vision took such a slight dip that he actually said it wasn't worth it to get prescription glasses, that the weak 1.25 magnifiers at the drug store would be fine if I needed them, which I didn't. Well over the last month I've noticed more and more that I absolutely need them. It actually scared me enough to call and move up my yearly appt. I was so nervous the girl at the doctors office had him call me. He said in my mid 40's(I'll be 45 in a couple months) my reading vision could worsen in a matter of weeks, that sadly that's how it happens. I've just been spoiled I guess, never needing glasses till now. But I'm going to get them checked in a couple of weeks anyway. He said it could wait but since I'm nervous, I'm going. Deb aka Lefty, How's it going? I hope everything is healing well. I haven't had the success you've had but I'm close. Definitely lost. Made it thru 12 days induction and then a slight breakdown. Had a muffin. It did trigger a binge but I fought it. Didn't touch anything else. That's been my biggest issue in the past. Once I blow it I figure What the heck, and eat whatever. I'm still fighting it this morning, it's amazing how hard it is. Don't let that boss get to you. We've got some real crap going on at work. My ex-supervisor is leaving in a month(and she's off for the next 2 weeks) woo hoo!! :cb: But they are moving everyone around and cross training. (because the refuse to hire anyone) so it looks like some stressful times ahead(of course around the holidays.) Well, time will tell. I have to do what they want. Need the paycheck. I don't live to work. I work to live. Hey Rosetta You have a good weekend too! And three weeks on program deserves a great big WOO HOO! :cp: Hey Pat, glad to hear your back OP. It's a constant battle isn't it? but we have to keep trying. I'm cooking for Thanksgiving. Nothing fancy. It's all guys in my house and with them it's quantity not quality  I have a couple of frozen pies. Stove Top stuffing which they love, I'll make a big batch of mashies that they love, baked sweet potato for me and several different veggies. The hard part will be the cranberry sauce and stuffing. Need to have a little. But I'm going to skip the pie. I'm going to expirament with pumpkin this week. I'm going to try and make the filling with splenda and use no pie crust. That with some FF cool whip would be great. I wonder if I need to bake it sitting in a pan of water like a custard. Well, I guess that's why it's called expiramenting  I am looking forward to leftover white meat. Great for lunches. The guys usually kill the stuffing and bread. Welcome Meadowlark. You raise birds? cool. We have an African Gray. He is so funny. But he doesn't like to come out of his cage. Once in a blue moon I get him out to give him a shower. We probably didn't train him right when we got him. My husband bought him. We both worked full time and at the time had 3 young boys we were raising. He got attention as far as the household was hopping all the time(boy did he pick up some bad habits :o ) But we love him. Though he is such a slob. What kind of birds do you raise? well ladies, sorry I babbled so long. Haven't been on in a few days and I guess it was bottled up  To anyone I may have missed "HI !" Enjoy the weekend. ttyl :D |
Well Good morning :coffee: I'm glad to be back on the day shift. And hand is out of it's bandage. So now I'm looking forward to a good Thanksgiving. Now the bad news. Just heard that there are still problems in the plant and we could be headed back on overtime. Man they are going to force me to make money.
I'm glad and want to welcome the newbies Stephanie and meadowlark we are glad to have you. Everyone has something to offer and the more the better. Rosetta, Rosey, Pat, Donna glad to hear everyone is doing their best. This is a really tough time of year to stay OP. So I'm glad we're getting off to a good start. Well I'll be off for now. Hugs Deb |
Evening, girls. I've been busy all day and have just now been able to get to the forum. Welcome Meadow -- glad you could join us. What kind of birds do you raise? I like birds, have done a little birdwatching, but not for awhile. Donna - welcome to middle age. I've worn glasses since I was about 15, so it's no biggee for me. I got cataracts at 45 and had two surgeries. My eyes are good now. I get them checked once a year by an opthamologist as everyone with diabetes should do. I hope you just need the glasses to read. S
Stephanie, keep posting and let us know how you are doing. Deb: Hooray! Back to normal -- almost. Glad your hand is better to (gotta lift that turkey to your mouth!) I lost another 2 lbs but am afraid I may have canceled that yesterday with a tostada salad (love that guacamole). Anyway, back OP today. Yes, Donna, that's a problem for me too. It's easy to say, well I blew it so forget the whole thing, but I'm trying to train myself to get back on the horse, so to speak, if I fall off. |
Rosetta :cp: Am I proud of you. A little slip and no bouts of depression, you've come a long way baby. It's really hard to be the perfect angle all the time. I'm also learning the trick is to not let it stop you in your tracks.
I saw a post on the #2 thread from a Heidi and told her to come on over and meet the group. hope to see her here. Well it looks like the weather has dampened my plans to finish painting the house this weekend. It's been raining here for days. With more on the way. But the overcast is helping easy me back into daytime life. I'm afraid a good sunny day and my skin would brust into flame. I'll be off for a few days and will be pretty busy but I'll try to get in over the long weekend. Everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving. Deb |

|
Hi. Looks like everyone is in a holiday mood. Rosey - my dust bunnies are so big, they eating the furniture! I hope you have a wonderful time with your grandkids and don't exhaust yourself too much. Deb - glad it's raining so you don't have to paint the house and can readjust from your vampire hours. Enjoy your time off. I won't be checking in over the long weekend since I don't have access to a computer. I was supposed to have next week off but at 7:30 this morning, roofers showed up on the building next door to my apartment house and starting hammering and running their infernal machines. They plan to be there next week. No point in my staying home to hear that. So I'm in a foul mood today since I thought I was going to have 11 straight days to veg. Happy Thanksgiving to you all and to the lurkers, too!

On the advice of 2round, here I am, newly diagnosed diabetes. I am trying to control it right now with a change in diet. I could use all the help I can get. I am just feeling so overwhelmed right now.
|
Welcome, H. Are you taking medications. If you can get by without them that is the best. Exercise is also important for controlling blood sugar. Does your health plan provide for counseling with a diabetes nurse or nutritionist? that's a good place to start. We're all here for support and enouragement. Post often.
|
Well I joined this website over 2 years ago but sort of fell off LOL
I had my first fasting blood glucose test last week and I was 7.7 (normal here in New Zealand is 3.5 - 6 I had another test yesterday morning and am waiting to hear what it is. If it is not above 7 then I will have to do a GTT. Gosh this waiting for results is sooooo hard!!! I am 34, living in New Zealand, married to the most wonderful man in the whole world. We have a cockatiel named Smukke who is our wee baby :) Even if my numbers are not so high this test I am still going to act like and eat like a diabetic to prevent myself from getting it as long as possible. I hope to get to know you all a lot better :D |
Hello Ladies
I FINALLY had my blood work done yesterday. My Dr. ordered just a fasting blood sugar for now-I guess he'll follow up with a GTT if he feels it's warrented. I'm still doing pretty well with my food-had a couple of down days recently, but I'm back on track.
H: I'm glad you're here. This is a great thread, and you'll find a lot of love and support here. Hope everyone is doing well. :grouphug: HAPPY THANKSGIVING! |
well if the standard testing is two tests over 7 then I am a diabetic. My first one was 7.7 and my yesterdays one was 7.1 (here in NZ normal range is 3.5 - 6)
Better but not great. I am going to see the doc on Monday and for some reason the nurse still thinks I need a GTT So I guess I am official and you will all see a lot more of me as my fingers love to talk LOL |
Hi all!
I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes a month and a half ago-
I have been basically been going through denial and ran across your board. Just wanted to introduce myself and if it is OK with everyone join in some in the discussions. I have about 140 lbs. to lose so I am a little overwhelmed. The doctor did not put me on meds yet but I am told if I don't get with the program that meds are the next step. Anyway- glad to talk to people that understand my struggle. :spin: |
Loofah & Crime Girl...
I was browsing around, and I just saw your posts-welcome to 3FC! :D
