Good afternoon everyone. Well, it seems to be going from bad to worse around here! I am doing a full system, online computer scan even as I write this....I am letting it run in the background. It seems that a spyware virus got into my computer when hubby downloaded a game from a well known game site. My Internet Explorer search engine would not activate because this "bug" keeps changing the settings. After spending an hour on the phone with Microsoft tech support, I am cleaning it out of the computer. I am going to get rid of my current virus/spyware protection, Trend Micro, and go back to Microsoft Essentials, too. My current "protection" did not catch the spyware coming in on the file. Hope this puts things right with my computer. Poor hubby...I really gave him an ear full with this one....especially since he had another unproductive weekend with maintenance! The weekend just didn't go right. As a matter of fact, this past month was just awful in general!
We are supposed to be getting some rain today but it sure isn't looking like it right now....very sunny and hot! It has been a terribly hot summer so far. I sure hope we don't get the record cold like last winter though. I just can't afford to keep replacing my trees every year! Joanne, how fortunate for your daughter that you are talented with quilt making!. My mom made each of us kids a quilt and each was different. Mine was all hand sewn and quilted....a beautiful colorful star on white background. She hand quilted a design over the entire background. I will always treasure it. It had some fraying along one edge and there is a woman in New Hampshire that does repairs on heirloom quilts. I just never got around to sending it up there to be repaired. My mom was very talented with cooking, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Probably because she grew up during the depression. I'm boiling off some country style spare ribs. I'm trying to find a sugar free barbacue sauce to bake them off the rest of the way. It looks like I will just have to make my own! Off to finish my "to-do" list for Monday. I hope everyone is feeling okay and enjoying the summer. Bye for now. |
My post is in cyberspace. Here's the short version.
Love quilts and happy my son and his wife still love the one I made years ago. Wonderful weekend with missionaries. Great testimonies. Jessica's ac is not working and walmart wouldn't take it back. You wait-Gail will fix it!!! I hope. Suzanne is taking 2 tests for 2 jobs in CT. Prayers for her. We fly to Denver in a week!!! Still working on the upstairs. Took Auntie to lunch. She was wearing nice JEANS with a lime green blouse. 87!!!!!!! Mima=stay cool |
Hi everyone. Another hot and hazy day in Florida! We are SO needing some rain!! I vaguely remember posting something similar about this time last year, yes?? On my walk with Queenie last evening, I picked up a goose feather at our local park (which has a big pond with a water feature). Don't you want to know it had a single fire ant on it that managed to bite/sting my knuckle! So here I am with a hugely swollen right hand that is itching like crazy....I am so allergic to those disgusting beasts! I will be taking Benedryl now for the rest of the week! That should teach me to leave things alone on the ground. One tiny bite and my hand looks mangled. Guess we are starting August out on the right foot, huh?? Well, at least my computer is working better than ever now. (I better not say that too loud!) Not much else going on....doing a lot of hand watering to keep shrubs/lawn barely alive until we get some rain. Hope everyone is doing okay. I'll check back later.

Hey There
It is so true,WE NEED MORE RAIN. my sister just 2 miles away from me has had rain for the last 3 nights.
Kate ,I too am allergic to bug bites.. I have used pure ammonia on a piece of cotton or gauze to kill the poison of the bite.. I love to wear jeans.. Been wearing them all my life.. Now I make my own as I have to make one leg wider to hide my brace. Hello Everybody...Joanne |
OOOOOH!!! bad pain. Sorry.
I volunteered to go to the Fair this morning to hand out pamphlets for the churches in the area, Then I get a massage. Went to Salvation Army to get stuff for the kids-it was family day-half privce, Got lots for 13$. And I am fussy. Then I went to the other thrift store and got myself an Alfred Dunner outfit for $10. Finally got the suitcoats from FL-one had to be cleaned. Bought Brad a black shirt and tie to wear with black pants and a beige sport coat. Spiffy!!! Man-this basement apt is so smelly/ Gotta get the comp upstairs-the phone lines are ready!!! Beautiful day. Best summer I can remember-tons better than last year, / bye for now Mima |
Good morning everyone. We really had some serious rain yesterday afternoon. It was refreshing to see those downpours! The lawns will really green up now. My landscape guy is coming to put in the two new trees I picked out. We moved the Royal Poinciana over a bit from where the last one was planted. I think it will look better closer to the center of the lawn rather than the property line.
Something is wrong with my big toe....don't remember hitting it on anything but it is sore and swollen like I sprained it or something. Very difficult to put my sneakers on for walking Queenie. She didn't get to go far this morning....it's very painful. I'll put an ice pack under it when I get home from the grocery store. Thank God for single story living! Fire ant bite is finally going down but still oozing a bit. I haven't been sleeping all that well the past few nights either so I am really dragging my butt today. I may need to just take a short nap to catch up. Hope everyone is doing okay. |
Take it easy Kate.
We are heartbroken-We know one of those mediacl doctors that was killrd in Afghanistan. We saw his wife last weekend. He has been over there for 30 years. She has to have a knee operation so she was home. Don't know ywrt if we know any of the others. Pray for their families= Painted at camp-home to take a shower and pick up Brad;s sportcoart at the cleaners. I can rest the rest of the day. Gonna read. Bye for now. Mima |
Hey There
We are getting a little rain in the early part of the day. The rain Kate gets comes off the gulf and goes across the state.
I finished my pillows for my daughter.. I will start a quilt when I get back from N/Florida next week. We are going to her house for the weekend on the 12th. I saw on the weather report that we may have a warm winter. I like the cool weather but not as cold as it was this year.. Our son is in the academy for law enforcement. I would never have thought he would give up design architecture for a lower paying job.He seems happy with what he is doing and he said he can always do side work. I did not have a good night last night.. If the hubbies sleep talking wasn't waking me up the pain in my shoulders was.. I have bursitis and arthritis in both shoulders.Of course both are a form of arthritis. I can't have surgery so it looks like I am just going to have too find a way to live with it.. They have injected them many times. It is time for me to walk Christie.. Have a Great Weekend Everybody..Joanne |
That darn arthritis- it loves to hang around. I am going to start packing-Brad said he was going to stay home and help but I am a loner-my brain clicks off what I need to do-actually I am going to doc's and get my nails done tomorrow, He has plenty to do on Wed-drive to the airport and drive to the hotel Wed night. Maybe I will give him a list. Bye for now. mima

Good morning all. The concensus is I may have gout in my big toe...just what I need! After reading about it, I am wondering how to prevent another flare up. Anyone know anything about uric acid build up in the blood?? I know it is a form of arthritis but can not figure out what I may have done to cause the problem. I also need to find out what to do so it doesn't keep happening. Another issue I need to deal with is my computer keyboard....it's wireless and has just started doing this "delay" thing that drives me nuts!! I'll be typing along and the letters don't show up or will show up randomly while I'm typing along.Guess I will need to troubleshoot this problem with Microsoft. I can only hope things will start to turn around and get better soon. It gets very frustrating having little things go wrong day after day.....maybe it's a phase of the moon or something?? I need an attitude adjustment incentive!! Hope all is well with everyone. Definitely need to get this keyboard issue fixed!!

I have experienced that but I don't think it' s the mouse?
Big packing yesterday. They are closed and weighed. They feel like 100 but they are only 30 lbs. Getting manicure and pedicure today!!! Lots on the news about those 10 people in Afghanistan. and Libby had been there 32 years and she's going back. Bye for now. Google gout. I think too much red meat is one bit I can't remember. My aunt gets pseudo gout from red dye 40 |
Good morning all. We're supposed to get a lot of rain today....sure is dark and cloudy so maybe the weatherman is right for a change! We sure could use the water!! Mima, I did do the internet thing about gout and it just mentioned high-fat seafood and meat were linked to the symptoms. It's a build-up of uric acid in the body that causes crystals to form in joints, especially the big toe. It mentioned it was a form of arthritis and would most likely happen again. There are a couple of medications to keep the acid from building up in the body but I would like to avoid taking any pills for it. I am more convinced every day that most of the medications prescribed today have more dangerous side effects than the actual condition they are prescribed for.....I avoid taking medications if I can help it. And I do not eat much red meat at all....occasionally lean ground beef..... but mostly chicken, turkey and cod fish... no salmon or shellfish either. I don't really know why I would get gout but I guess I am doing something wrong somewhere. I'm sure my primary care will give me some insight when I get around to seeing him.
I need to go in search of some new SB recipes.....it is definitely time to get back on track with my diet. The extra 5-7 pounds is really affecting my mood. I need to concentrate on "me" for a while and stop doing so much for everyone around me. Hubby is going to have to put his big-boy pants on and deal with some things around here for himself so I can get back to my better habits. We'll see how this goes for the rest of the week! Have a great trip, Mima!! Hope everyone is enjoying their week so far. |
Hi.
Mima - have fun! Sounds like you are just waiting to get to the airport tomorrow lol Have a safe trip. Joanne - sorry you are in so much pain. Arthritic pain is nasty. That's why I like the winter HERE. It is cold and very dry and my pain levels are very low. Have fun on your trip to your daughters. Kate - sorry you have GOUT. Not fun. My gf got it, from taking a blood pressure piill. Told the Dr. she couldn't take that one, as she gets gout when she does. He told her it was nonsense, so she took it and with ina week - GOUT. I think that Dr. had to eat his words. Here is a link for you http://www.gout.com/treating-gout-pa...lifestyle.aspx Hope you find something useful there. Been working lots. Had a bout of some kind of crud last week. Sore throat and lung congestion. Got on the Zithomax and am doing better. Toe surgery on the 13 Sept. Hope it goes ok. Meme - hope you are feeling better. Catch you again soon. |
Hey There
I didn't get to go to my daughters.. Her Rotti was barking one evening over a week ago and they knew no one had come up as the buzzer in the house didn't go off. So my daughter went out and saw that the dog was barking at a huge moccasin. She tried to get the dog away. He picked up the snake and threw it up into the air. When it came down the moccasin bit Sam in the chest 3 times.
They took him to the vet,who thought he would not live. They gave him antivenom and antibiotics. He so far has made it and they have to keep him in the house. He is in the kitchen where there is no carpet. So as we have a dog we decided not to go .We are not sure how they would get along. Mine would think it was play time and my daughters dog would want to take her head off. They can't put him outside till he heals up. The areas are real nasty looking now ,my daughter tells me.. My daughter and son-in-law are not happy that such a big dog is in the house. Other than that my shoulders are still very painful. I have a Dr.appointment next week and I will get real assertive and try to find a way for me to get out of this pain. I hope Everyone has a great weekend...Joanne |
Good morning everyone. Joanne, that sounds so painful for that poor dog! I couldn't even imagine a snake doing that to Queenie! I do hope he recovers from the ordeal and sorry you didn't get to make your trip. I'm sure you will get to see your family when the dog heals.
Our weekend started out with a bang. Friday night was the beginning of it all. After walking Queenie around 8 pm, I came home to a house that I thought felt a bit too warm. The thermostat was reading 82 degrees....guess the A/C drain was clogged like last time...(which was only 3 weeks ago and THAT after-hours visit was $195!!) So, I called my A/C technician and he walked my hubby through clearing the drain because I refused to pay him another service call fee. I told him that "re-servicing" within a specific time frame from a company (90 days here) meant that the company could not charge another service fee. He decided he wouldn't come without another service fee.. Well, a long story short, it wasn't the drain and the company I WAS dealing with took over an hour to call back. You noticed I said "WAS"yep, fired his butt. I called another company and signed on for my maintenance for the year. They promnptly came out and fixed the problem. This entire scenerio took approximately 5 hours total.....we didn't get to bed until after 1 am. I would have waited until the next day to deal with it all but the temps here have been in the mid 90's with 100% humdity. Hubby, I and Queenie would never have made it through the night without A/C. This A/C unit has been giving us problems since the day we moved into our newly built house....literally. Thank God it has a 10 year warranty but I still have to pay the labor. Joanne, my shoulders, hips and low back have been giving me tons of trouble. I just feel like I am falling apart somedays. I am not getting any relief from my current medication either and just don't know which direction to take now. It just seems like there is no end to this....I'm not aging too gracefully I guess. I hope youo find some relief soon. The only thing that has helped me lately is that new ETPS TENS treatment. It applies direct current to specific " trigger points" and was very effective. Unfortunately, I have to find a doctor or chiropractor who uses it and bills my insurance. I'm going to make today an easy day for myself. No cooking or heavy cleaning. Hope everyone is starting the week off on a good note. Bye for now. |
