Had a hysterectomy in 93, at the age of 31, uterus, ovaries, and cervix. Had a family history of crappy female organs. Had endimetriosis, ovaires looked like dried up almonds, had cysts like crazy, horrid cramps, that made me so sick I would vomit. Hormones so screwed up, I wanted to go postal. Could stand outside when it was -10 degrees and sweat like an old sow! Did HRT for a few years and gave that up too. Never looked back!

Has not had any affect on my weight or weight loss. Calories in, Calories out.

But it can be different for everyone, give it time, patience and work with your doctor. I had a great one who listened to me, and was a God send!

Mine was in '93 and I kept my ovaries.
After a few years, I was put on Premarin for 4 years. I opted to get off it.
Since then, it has been a struggle to keep my weight down.

Good luck.

Well, with a little time under my belt, this is what I've noticed about my body.

I no longer get a whoosh every 4 weeks. However, I no longer stall for 2 weeks every month either. I have had the occasional whoosh but it's not happening monthly anymore.

When my eating is on plan I steadily lose around a pound a week. If I go off plan even a tiny bit I hover (up and down the same 2 pounds) until I get it back under control again.

The PMS symptoms are still coming around regulary, some days I feel hollow, and I could eat all day. Those days are when I'm moody and grouchy and quick to snap off at people. And, conversely, they happen more than once a month.

So this is my new normal, and I have to learn to adjust to it.

Thanks for sharing everyone!

I had a complete hysterectomy in 9/11/01. I have always had a weight problem. In June this year I found out I had hypothyroidism. My doctor started me on thyroid meds. I immediately lost 8 lbs. I was like wow! So I just kept on going. I decided to start counting my calories and exercising. In the past when I would try and lose weight no matter how little I ate the weight would just not come off. So in my case I believe the problem has been the inactive thyroid not the hysterectomy.
I am on the hormone replacement patch and it is awesome at controling the symptoms.
Thank you all on TFC for the encouragement!!
