  • HELLO LADIES ~ the weather was very enjoyable today: we had sun on and off; nice temps with a light breeze to keep it that way (comfortably cool). However, they are predicting that things are gonna heat up for the rest of the week.

Well, today was as busy as yesterday was restful. Got lots of exercise in today getting things ready for next week. We are renting a cottage for my SIS and BIL for this coming weekend but it needed some cleaning. Nobody has been there since last year; so it needed it badly. We clean it in return for a lower price. So we did the entire downstairs today; except have a few windows left to do and put up the curtains.

Next time, DH will tackle the floors upstairs. Had a bit of an adventure with water today; something got turned on wrong, as we got flooded. Thankfully, we caught it fast, but had to spend almost an hour wiping the water up which pooled in one corner ~ yeah!!! The owner said that he thinks he knows what happened and is going to go set things up for us himself ~ LOL.

So, we'll be busy for a couple of days I guess, but we have to spread it out as my feet are throbbing tonight; so I must rest them up a bit. Well, I'll sleep good tonight for sure.

HEY PURPLE ~ sounds like those places that you can go and visit are lovely; it's nice that they allow people to go visit the lakes, gardens, and parks. I wish it was that way here, but we don't have those big beautiful grand Castles and Mansion estates like you do over there; and even if we did, they would have them locked up and guarded like Fort Knox (where they keep all the gold bullion in the US).

HI MEOWEE ~ so glad that you are feeling better; sorry that you are having trouble with ups and downs in your sugar levels; my last check I was 5.3 and I am quite happy with that. They are staying pretty steady these days; and I am very thankful. I made up some more Rhubarb Conserve with strawberries; I used less sugar and part sweetener instead: just as yummy, but not so hard on the blood sugar levels. I cooked 3-4 cups rhubarb + 1 cup strawberries with 1/2 cup sugar + 1/4 cup water + one sweetener (probably didn't even need it).

HI VAL ~ hope you are having a good day!

Well, this will be a short visit (yah right; I wrote a book) as I am very tired and will be putting my feet up with a good crossword puzzle shortly. Take good care, your friend ROSEBUD

  • Stupid thunderstorm woke me up at 4 am and by the time I closed all the windows, I was definitely awake. Now I've had breakfast and 3 cups of coffee and I'm going to try to have a nap. Oh ya, good luck. I have an eye appointment this afternoon and could really use another couple of hours of shut-eye before having to show them to my Optometrist .

Definitely love the analog Seca scale this morning. No matter how hard I tried -- on and off a few times and even shoved it around on the floor a bit -- couldn't convince it to register any number other than 215. Must have stripped a bunch of water yesterday because I know you can't lose more than 3 pounds of fat overnight anymore than you can gain it in the same time frame. Hey, whatever it is, I like the number.

Unfortunately I don't like the BGL number nearly as well. Your numbers sound really great ROSEBUD.

    Okay . . . have a great day . . .
  • Hi fellow chicks

It is a cloudy day here but it is not cold saying that. I am waiting for a nice warm day and our little pooch days are numbered Not as bad as that might seem but I want to shower him he is definitely starting to hum (smell) a bit but there again I have a very acute sense of smell. As I have said Rizzie has an definite hatred of water. Though saying that he seems to sense that I can not struggle with him and goes to the shower no problems. It is a different story if my DH is bathing him he digs his heels in is very difficult to shower. So overall it is better if I shower him as it is easier all round.

ROSEBUD ~ It is surprising how far water can go and how long it takes to mop up. My last disaster with water was only a 3 litre jug full but it took 30 minutes to mop it all up. I can see that your fight with water was far worse and I can understand how long it took you to put it back to normal so to speak.

Sounds like you manage to get in loads of exercise courtesy of house work preparing the cottage for your sis and sil. It is a really good work out doing chores like that and some how you do not notice it quite as much as doing exercise (walking , dancing , swimming etc). I seem to manage a fair bit when I am pulling in lots of chores. I bet you are getting rather excited especially as the day draws ever closer. It is really nice to have a family holiday together it is so rarely done now. When I was growing up we always went away on holiday with my dad sister my Auntie and her sons. This took place every year until her untimely death age 40 from a heart attack. I think with being so over weight this fact played on my mind more and more as I approached my 40's and then I was worried that I was on borrowed time. I often see reading many peoples weight loss stories that there was a point that their weight broke the camels back so to speak and they decided to turn their life around. For me it was my Auntie and watching a programme of a gentleman who had to be helped out of his home by the fire brigade. I was so afraid then if I continued to put weight on at the rate of knots I was then that was a distinct possibility in a few years of that being me. I am rather shy in many ways and that would have been so humiliating for me to happen to.

I am so fortunate that from where I live within 30 minutes or less there are many grounds to go round. Some are free others have a small free. Several of the places did have stately homes on at one time but I know that one was destroyed by fire and so had to be pulled down for safety ( many years ago I hasten to add) I suppose I really do not appreciate what is on my door step when you said you do not have such luxuries as stately grounds. It made me stop and think how lucky I am to have such beautiful grounds so near to my home.

MEOWEE ~ Sounds like you had an enforced getting up with the larks due to the thunderstorms. I hope you managed to get a bit more shut eye before going to the opticians. Best wishes for the eye test, hope you do not need a new prescription for glasses as if they are anything like in the UK they cost you an arm and a leg to pay for them.

Nice catching up with you ladies till next time and take care all
  • HELLO CHICKIES ~ well, we had another busy day; went to town to pick up some things we needed and things we forgot last week. Then we came home, had a quick lunch, then headed over to the cottage to get some more done. Hung up the curtains and washed windows; vacuumed quite a bit too. We are almost finished; I think tomorrow, we shoud be done cleaning.

DH has to repair a doorway that got damaged last year during a really bad storm. There were two very large fur trees in front of the house and a big wind came and up-rooted them onto the roof. They were very lucky they didn't get a lot more damage. It is likely that which caused the door frame problem. DH is pretty handy and will likely be able to fix it.

MEOWEE ~ my last eye appt. said that I didn't need new glasses, but that I need to have them checked each year now. I can see deterioration, but my glasses still work well enuff. Yes, my sugars are swell; my doctor is quite impressed and told me that I don't have to check them as often. My new lifestyle changes have helped that, I'm sure.

HEY PURPLE ~ it's funny how Rizzie gives your DH such a hard time, but not you in the shower. NIKO is the same; many things he does much better for me, or doesn't do naughty things like he does with DH (cuz Dh lets him away with mischief and I don't). I'm consistent but not harsh. DH was commenting today how hard housework is; he says that he forgets then when he helps me with a big project like this, it brings back the memories (or as I say, the reality). LOL!

It's really nice to have our family here; I always look forward to seeing them all ... and likewise, hate to see them leave. But as they have come more often in the last few years, it isn't so sad now. We are just gonna have one week of nuttin' but fun!!!

HI VALDINE ~ hope you are having a great week!

Take good care ladies; I'm off to bed as I'm tired, which is what I expected ... ROSEBUD
  • Hi Ladies

Just got up and just having my breakfast. So I thought I would take the opportunity to post in here.

I have a meal slowly cooking in the oven at present which is some chicken, and root vegetables in a white wine sauce. I am quick looking forward to having it at lunch all I can say it is smelling rather nice at the minute

I went to play cards at the whist drive as normal last night. DH came second and I came last I even for coming last get a prize. It is a type of biscuit which has marshmallow in the centre and chocolate on the outside. We do not each such fayre now so I will donate this to my ms centre I am sure it will be gratefully received. They always have a tin of biscuits in the centre for you to help yourself.

ROSEBUD ~ Sounds like your DH has a little bit of what we call DIY (do it yourself) on repairing the door frame damaged in the storm.

Yes I think our dogs sense that we can not give us a difficult time when bathing or they will hurt us or we will fall. They are so in tune with things like that it is unbelievable.

See a bit of reality has kicked in for your DH in cleaning the cottage Yes my dh fines it the same. I suppose as I do chores day in and day out I just do not think. It is only when I have been under par that he has had to stand in. I know he would help more around the house but I am fiercely independant. I want to do as much as I can whilst I can. I know that there is a chance that I might not be able to in the future. DH helps me with things I can no longer do but I have given up very reluctantly

Hi to VALDINE and MEOWEE hope you are both well. Well no more news for today so take care ladies till next time
  • Good Morning . . .

The wind shifted last night and blew away the terrible humidity we had yesterday and today we are looking at an almost perfect early Summer Day. No big plans, but guess I'd better find something to do out there -- don't want to waste this weather.

My eye appointment resulted in no change of scrip either, but he can definitely see all the new floaters I've grown in the past 6 months and thinks it is likely to do with my blood sugars being less stable since I stopped shooting insulin. Unfortunately I'm beginning to see needles in my future again. Won't panic until I see the Opthamolagist next month, but imagine he'll have the same answer.

At least the analog scale still loves me . . . down another half pound this morning . . . seems impossible and I'm beginning to wonder if the cats are tampering with it overnight.

Hope everybody else has a great day today, too . . .
  • HELLO LADIES ~ well, NIKO and I ended up staying home today; and I was glad of that becuz I needed the rest. DH went to help my Dad finish off the shingles on his cottage today (and they did) ... plus .... drum roll please ... they finally laid down the first bricks of our foundation today!!!! YAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I was starting to wonder if we would ever get going at it. So much planning over the years and too much waiting for my liking. Now we're into phase II of VII (phase I: site prep/ phase II: foundation/ phase III: floor/ phase IV: walls/ phase V: roof/ phase VI: windows and doors/ and phase 7: finishing up. Now, that is the basic plan of the main structure; the siding and indoor finishing comes after that ...

I did get some laundry done today and just the general daily stuff; had to let this body rest esp with the added stress of TOM and this month is a tuffer one; they vary each time: sometimes regular while others are more difficult. The best thing to do in such cases is wrap up in a warm comfy and sleep.

If we feel up to it tomorrow, we want to go pick up a couple of lilac bushes, if we can find some for a decent price and plant them on our lot. Lilacs are my all-time favorite flower: I like that they are a bush that comes every year with such pretty and fagrant blooms. When we were kids, we used to pick them and suck the nector out of the stems; and lilac, purple, and pink were my favorite colors.

HEY PURPLE ~ you are probably right that NIKO senses that he shoud be more careful around me; he really is sweet to me and senses things like our PIN PIN used to do (it's kinda eerie). Yes, DH is a handyman: he can fix a lot of things, and I'm glad for that.

HI MEOWEE ~ sorry to hear that you may have to go on needles. That's why my doctor wanted me to get things under control now, so that I won't have to go on them. I am very grateful, as my mother and one brother had/have diabetes. We seem to be able to get things managed so far. I know that I will have to watch my sugar intake for the rest of my life; thankfully, I was not ever a big sweets person. I got into baking for DH and I think that's where the problem came in; but now all I make is low-fat bran & fruit muffins for him, and maybe pumpkin pie for holidays, and possibly a small cake on his birthday. We have really limited our sugary stuff now.

HI VAL ~ having fun spending your rebate?

Take good care chickies, your friend ROSEBUD
  • Sounds like things are starting to move along there ROSEBUD . . . hope the pace keeps going at a good clip.

Yesterday's walking managed to give me a blister on the top of my foot . . . owee . . . so don't know what shoes will be semi comfy for today; but I will get some kind of activity in, that's for sure. We are having another gorgeous and sunny day although it is forecast to be a little warmer and a little more humid than the absolutely perfect levels we had yesterday.

Hope everybody else has a great day, too . . .
  • Hi Ladies

Well it has been cloudy today with little tiny bursts of sunshine. Though at around 5pm the heavens opened and we had a tremendous downpour for a few minutes.

I have just returned from my oxygen therapy but this will be the last of doing it on a Thursday for a while as my dh is to commence his training to become a tank operator at the centre. So it made sense that I took the opportunity to have a dive whilst we were there. He is training between 10am and 2pm on Tuesday. Between now and then he will have to buy a pair of shoes or slippers. This is because his slippers that he has at the moment have been outside a time or two. In the tank you should wear footwear that has not been outside. That is due to the strict rules and regulations with running the tank. We can wear no watches whilst having treatment or have mobile (cell phones) in with you. No lighters and I can not remember if there is anything else that you should not have.

I must confess that I have fallen of the waggon with one of my choices but I could not resist it has been like over 18 months since I had any roasted cashew nuts. Though I did choose only to have 50g which is like 2oz roughly to do damage limitation. I choose one roasted in sunflower oil and had low sodium. So that is it now I have had my fix for another 18 months When I worked out the calories though it makes you stand back in horror thinking I could have had a whole plate of food for that like the main meal of the day So I will have to be good now and stay on the waggon and hold on tight

ROSEBUD ~ They always say that building a house well in your case a cabin it takes longest to get it out of the ground. It must feel so nice that after all these years that finally you are doing something and your dream is coming alive.

I never knew that with lilac that you could suck out the nectar. It is something that is not done here to my knowledge. We went picking wild mushrooms, blackberries and collected beechnuts but nothing like that. It sound very nice pity I did not know growing up as my mum, mum had a couple of lilac bushes in her garden a light purple one and and white coloured one.

I hope this TOM passes quickly I can fully sympathise with you when you get a tough one. Every 3 or 4 months I get a humdinger and have done since my teens. Take it easy as much as you can and take pain killers if you have to and sleep the worse of them off.

MEOWEE ~ Ouch blisters can be so painful and then you have the hard task of finding the most comfortable footwear that you have to take pressure of the blister. Touch wood I have not experience a blister for many years on my feet. I did when I had a new pair of "nursing shoes" to bed them in I have had some right big ones on my heal. That I had to pad and plaster (band aid) up to the hilt just to get through the daily shifts. Though good for you that you are still going to exercise despite your injury. It is so easy to find excuses not to exercise.

Right time to get a move on as I am going out shortly and I need to get ready to go. Till next time bye bye

  • so my parents are in town, it was my birthday yesterday. I have more than 100 hours of banked time at work, was elected the president of Tourism North Manitoba.... and have picked up a casual weekend job at the local women's clothing chain (Reitmans.. which gets me a discount at 5 other stores nationwide)

I'm sorry I dont have time.. .and wont have time for a while. I put my rebate on my student debt.. 2 years ago it was more than 30 grand.. and today it's less than 3!

I had some scary interferon side effects this week too. woke up unable to move because of hepatic pain that ended up making a foot go numb. fortunatly I keep a cell phone by my bed and could call for help....

i started taking melatonin to help me sleep. the fatigue is kicking my butt pretty bad most days. and I'm getting tired of weight loss... I just want to be done...

    Rosebud Purple meowee
  • Morning . . . nasty thunderstorms booming about outside . . . hope to get back later . . .
  • Hi Ladies

Very grey and overcast day today though no rain fortunately as yet. We went to a place called West Bromwich which is near Birmingham which is one of our major cities in the UK. We did a delivery today to deliver 30 cushion the place of delivery is not yet open to the public until Monday I think the customer said. It is a very modern looking building with strange shaped windows. The customer said it would be difficult to find be we found it very quickly. We have had much harder places to squirrel out in our time

Well must start to make some real plans over the next few days with DH working the tanks on Tuesday so that we get some good clean wholesome food. Normally I put something in either on a low light to cook which will be ready on our return or the other route we go is that I have already have a meal cooked and just need reheating. The one thing since embarking on this healthy eating I have to be more organised on days out or like when DH operates the tanks on Tuesday. That is so we do not go off plan if at all necessary. I know there are events in your life which you can not plan for which come up in emergencies but when having to choose food there I try and opt for the most healthiest that I can see for damage limitations.

VALDINE ~ Belated I hope that you had a lovely day. on the election to the president of Tourism North Manitoba I bet you are pleased on getting this post. You certainly must have work very hard to clear that amount of debt and should be proud of yourself for whittling it down to what it is now.

Wow you are a busy bunny especially as you now have a part time job at a clothing store nice little bonus that you get 5% discount on clothes. I bet you will be taking this offer up and buying some new pieces for your wardrobe as your body shape is changing now you have lost a big chunk of weight. That is one think I have loved buying new clothes in a size down and now getting more fashionable clothes. Buying clothes not just because they fit but because I really like them.

Sorry to hear of your scary side effect that you experienced. I am really pleased that you sleep with your mobile phone ( cell phone ) very near by. That is so wise of you having that near to hand just in case of emergencies.

Never heard of the drug melatonin for sleep disorders so I had a read about it. I am afraid it is not sold in the UK as far as I understood from the British Medical Journal. I must admit it was nice to read about it and expand my knowledge of the drug world.

I was experiencing bad fatigue and I was prescribed amantadine 100mg twice a day. Though this is not the only drug on the market that is sold for fatigue in MS. So if one does not work there are others that can work. I find it helps me along it is no miracle cure but does help on bad days.

MEOWEE ~ Yikes thunder storms and PC does not mix as I found out to my cost once. I did not get it switch off in time and it blew my motherboard and modem so was very costly. I now have a extension plug which helps protect against surges not that is 100% but does allow you to switch every thing down and it certainly reduces the odds of that happening again. I hope the thunderstorm pass swiftly.

Right off to watch second part in a drama about Sally Lockhart it comes from the Philip (not sure if it is spelt Phillip or Philip) Pullman he is the author who also wrote Golden Compass among many of his works. Hello to ROSEBUD hope that this finds you well and you DH Till I catch up with you all next time take care
  • HELLO CHICKIES ~ Well I typed a huge post only to lose it all for some reason that I don't understand at all! Been very busy lately and working hard, but getting lots of exercise in too and that's always good.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY VALDINE ~ hope you had a marvellous day!

CONGRATS on your new appointment as President of Tourism North Manitoba; an honor and a responsibility that I have no doubt you will handle very well. You sure have a lot on your plate these days; hope you don't overdo it too much!

We have lots of Reitman's in southern Ontario; they have very upscale and fashionable ladie's clothing there. Good for you paying off such a large student debt so quickly; that is very commendable, VAL!

I don't think you need to worry about losing weight; you are going to be so busy working that you will likely forget to eat and/or the weight will fall off by osmosis. You don't have to post much VAL; just come in one a week and briefly tell us how you are and what you are doing ~ as we enjoy hearing from you very much!

I have heard of MELATONIN for sleeping, but I would recommend that you talk to your personal physician about any possible side effects or contra-indications mixing M with your MS meds ...

Be back in a few minutes; tea is ready ... I'M BACK ...

MEOWEE ~ I used to get blisters on my feet whenever I wore NEW shoes; and must wear socks or hosiery whenever walking to prevent irritation.

HEY PURPLE ~ yes, you can sip the nectar out of Lilac flowers; try it the next time you see some in the early spring (we have them out right now here). We picked up two yesterday and DH and I went to the lot and he planted them today. A pinkish-mauve one in the front yard and a lovely light purple one in the back yard right beside our girls.

That flood turned out to be a pipe that burst in the wall, just like DH suspected so the plumbers are coming on Saturday to fix it so we have water. We worked hard this week, but I am starting to feel much better.

I even cleaned up my DAD's place today; he put in his bathroom while he was here and moved in lots of stuff, so there was a bit of a mess to clean. While DH put in some more foundation blocks in our place, I cleaned Dad's place (which was mostly sweeping).

We can now get ready for our holiday in the rented cottage; so looking forward to this time as are my SIS and BIL too. My DAD gave DH a row boat for helping him with his place so much: so we will be going boating next week too.

Well I think I have written enuff for now; take good care ladies ... your friend ROSEBUD
  • Another stormy and humid day and I have a migraine (weather-induced). Also three days of less than stellar eating has resulted in my finding an extra 1.5 pounds. Mostly water I think since the ankles were very puffy by the end of yeterday.
  • Hi Ladies

Phew eventually have five minutes it has been a busy day for me in the laundry department. I have done 3 loads, dried them all and even done the ironing so I am feeling pretty please that is out the way. Just the bed linen to do but will have to dry that in the drier as tomorrow rain is forecast. No real sun shine today but been an excellent wind. I have even managed a small walk to the park this am also with our Rizzie and of course my DH

Eventually I think I have managed to get through to my DH that he is undoing my work by nibbling biscuits and rice cakes that I had not accounted for. I have to do it tactfully as he has done so well really and he has a major sweet tooth. He has been hoovering around the same 3lbs when I looked at our records this has been going on for nigh on 6 months. I know people plateau so I have held off thinking that is what he had. We have agreed to do a calorie counting with plenty of room for his treats to satisfy his sweet tooth. So we see how he goes in the next few weeks. I really hope that the scales budge in the right direction so he does not get disheartened.

ROSEBUD ~ It is a shame for me that our lilacs are over and done with. The seasons here must be forward due to our much milder winter and spring climate. So I have to wait till next spring to sample the nectar from the lilac flower

At least you found out the reason for your lake in your home being the fractured pipe in the wall. I think if it is this Saturday it is being repaired you should have the water back and plumbed correctly.

Gosh you must have burned up hundreds of calories with doing all that cleaning in the cottage and your Dads holiday home. I think this form of exercise is good as you do not realise how much you are doing you just see the chores that need doing and tackle them. Though if you went to the gym for an hour you would find that much harder plus no end product that you can immediately see.

Never been in a boat, I have tried a canoe and managed to get very wet trying to board that I have been on a ferry across the English Channel to France and Belgium. Also had a very short ferry sail across from Malta to its sister island of Gozo and Comino. I went once also from Comino to Malta on a speed boat great fun I might add and loved every minute of it.

MEOWEE ~ Sorry to hear that you have a migraine due to the weather conditions. At once upon a time I used to get those very frequently but now they are very seldom and have been for many years thankfully.

I think we all have little blips in our road of healthy eating though it does sound to me that with ankle oedema (odema as it is spelt over the ocean or in plain English fluid/water on them ) it is most likely water gain. So I think that you will rapidly lose that weight gain. I hate it though when the scales go the wrong way though try not to let it get you down. Look how far you have come and how much healthier you body is for fuelling it with nutritious foods rather than junk. So focus on the positive aspects rather than the negatives.

Time for me to crack on and fetch the last of the washing in so till next time ladies take care and look after yourselves
