Hi Ladies

Went for a walk earlier than normal today really nice weather so was a pleasurable walk in the sun. We had a very pleasant evening out at friends and played cards with them. We played spades, gin rummy and another variation of that game koocan (?spelling of this) which requires 2 packs of playing cards. Gosh how the times goes when you play cards you do not realise how swiftly time passes when you are stuck into a card game.

ROSEBUD :~ :getwell: you are really going through the mill. You are doing the right thing taking aspirin and wrapping up warm. Take plenty of fluids and that is about all you can do and let nature take its course. I wish I had some better advice but colds and flus are really difficult to treat and nothing can cure the common cold. I have an annual flu jab each year in about November time. Sometimes it leaves my arm achy for a while but better than the flu. I also have had the pneumonia vaccine which lasts me for 10 years so not due to have one of those for a long while yet. In the UK they advice you to have the vaccines if you are over 65, have asthma, heart conditions and I come under the umbrella of because I have an auto immune disease with MS they say my immune system is compromised. When I first started in nursing I had many common colds just the fact I was in close proximity to people but over the years I think I built up quite a immunity to them.

I was thinking of your little sweetie today when walking our dog and wondering how she was getting on. I hope she is soldiering on and enjoying life. Our dog Rizzie gives me so much pleasure and makes me smile with his antics. Although I love him dearly he is definitely all my DH or any man for that matter. He is never nasty to ladies but is all over men like a rash :D

Time to start making tracks for tea, we are having a cooked one as neither of us felt like a big meal after last nights fayre at our friends Joyce's. She cooks such great food you have to be careful that you do not over indulge too much;) Bye ladies and take care fellow chicks

 HELLO THERE CHICKIES ~ Guess what? It's snowing again; I am sure this has to be a record year. Haven't seen this much snow in many years, but I really don't mind it too much. I am just staying inside cuz I want to get over this flu; and I am starting to feel a bit better today. I can smell better and the taste of the food is coming back. I can actually smell our dinner cooking in the oven right now (BBQ Chicken and Riblets).

PURPLE ~ Our little SWEETIE is hanging in there; she is such a brave soldier like you mentioned. The tumor is a bit smaller but she is slowing down a bit now and sleeping most of the time. We cuddle her and baby her and make her all her favorite treats to eat. DH and I spend time just laying or sitting with her. Like when we were playing games this weekend, she laid on my lap and loved that a lot. She is my baby so it is very hard for me at this time.

I don't know how to play SPADES OR KOOCAN. I like playing HEARTS, GIN RUMMY, EUCHRE, SUPER-CHASE (board game with cards), and YAHTZEE. I have learned how to play BRIDGE and KINGS. I used to know other games like CANASTA, but I haven't played them in so long that I forget the rules now.

I have been doing pretty well keeping on plan, probably becuz I haven't been feeling that great. When I'm over this flu, I'll take some trips out SKI-WALKING again; for now, I am just doing indoor stuff instead.

Well, I'd better go check on dinner now; so take good care, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug:

Hi Ladies

I have woke up to what looks like another glorious day, there has been a sharp frost over night though so the lawn is whited over. Today at 4pm I am off to the tank for my treatment then again on Thursday at 12.30pm.

ROSEBUD
:~ Sounds like Sweetie is being so brave they put humans to shame how they "put up" with lives illnesses they throw at them. Our Rizzie burst a blood vessel in his ear many years ago so his ear was blown up like a balloon. He must have been in agony but it did not seem to bother him. He had to have it surgically removed but it has left his ear like a crinkly cabbage inside. We where asked before the operation was done was he a show dog which our reply was no. I presume they would have done a much more complex operation to preserve the ear in some way. The only thing Rizzie was struggling with is the lampshade they put over their heads to protect wounds. After a few hours of him charging like a bull in a china shop to get through spaces he couldn't and bruising us in the process we decided to take it off. He was brilliant he never bothered to touch is ear he just seemed grateful to have that monstrosity off his head.

I have heard of euchre but do not not know how to play it. I have never heard of super chase though unless it is marketed here under a different name. I have always loved games from a young ages and we were encouraged to play rather than watch television. So many weekends and holidays were spent playing many different card or board games. We even played a game that was my mum's from when she was a little girl. That was a card game with numbers which you either had to add or minus the number from the previous card played. Then move 4 counters on your own board from the top to the bottom. It was suppose to help children count without realising it was educational as it was wrapped up in a game.

Time for me to disappear and get on with a few house chores which are begging to be done. Bye bye all and take care

 hi ladies

I caught a cold/flu from my brother end of last week...only it settled into my upper chest/broncials so I've been in bed since Friday night and pushing the clear fluids... lots of tea!

I tried my own experiement this time around - I didnt take ANY vitamins or herbal supplements when I started getting sick. (Last time I did and within a day my cold blew up into an MS flare). anyways the point is... no flare here! just the plain old achy fever viral bronchitis. woo hoo!! thank goodness its a long weekend and I have time to rest :)

and thanks for your encouragement about my weight loss Rosebud. After I lost 50 pounds or so I started getting scared that I couldnt actually get to my goal... but I think I'm over the hump now and I know I can do anything I set my mind too.

 I'll come back and read more when I'm feeling better.

 HELLO LADIES ~ Yup, we had some more snow today; Dh went out and stood behind the snowdrift beside our feeder (which is getting buried) so I could take a picture of how high it is. One of our neighbours' dogs tried to run through the path and was buried up to his neck; wish I had the camera loaded for that one, but I have to take the batteries out after I'm done or the power gets sucked right out of them.

I'm up late becuz I was trying to catch up on replying to some emails; got way behind becuz I was so sick. Still have a few left to do, but I made a huge dent in them tonight.

VAL ~ Sorry you have caught a flu also; may be the same one; I'm on day seven: had raw sore throat, totally stuffed up and phlegm in lungs which had to be expectorated regularly; my nose is red and raw in some places from being wiped so much. Sorry, if that's too much info, but it's a rough one. Didn't get to sleep 'til after 2 am becuz of it last night; hope it's better tonight.

PURPLE ~ games were a big thing in our family too; we had six kids, so games were a great way to keep us busy and have fun at the same time. We often received games as Christmas gifts; and our parents played them with us a bit, but more so card games.

WELL, better get off to bed; I'm nodding while I'm typing, no less ~ lol! Take good care, :hug:ROSEBUD:hug:

Justwant2Bhealthy 02-19-2008 09:57 PM

 the day started out with sunshine again; and oh, how I love that in the wintertime. The most amazing phenom occurred: for the second time in two weeks, we had a rainbow in the winter! There was a fine sprinkle of the white stuff in the afternoon; but not that much.

Just stayed in today to protect my lungs as it was quite cold. Did house chores and baking and cooking and such. It takes much more time to look after SWEETIE each day; kinda like having a baby around, but the last two days she has really been more active. She's a doll and I'm so glad for the extra time we have to spend with her.

I am eating well, but haven't been able to get any extra exercise in. Still am continuing to march around the place pretending it's my own walking track. Just looking for constant movement here, to burn up more energy; hope that helps. :^:

VAL ~ gee, that's odd that taking supplements results in a flare-up of your MS; you'd think the opposite would be true. Glad you found something that helps, becuz the flu we have out here is really terrible.

Hope everyone is having a good week! Take good care, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug:

Justwant2Bhealthy 02-21-2008 12:17 AM

 It seems to be my month for SIGNS & WONDERS IN THE SKY ~ did you see that beautiful red eclipse out there tonight? We watch it from our kitchen window, but went out onto the deck for a few minutes to get a closer look. The stars were incredibly close tonight too; won't see something like this too often in one lifetime.

Just checkin' in; had a good, but quiet day indoors. We had gorgeous sunshine all day, but it was extemely cold (in the -40C's with the wind chill). Dh said it was way too cold to be out for long; he came back in very quickly. Said he froze just going to the mailbox and back.

HI TO VAL AND PURPLE ~ hope you ladies are well. Can't believe how fast the days are going by. Take good care, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug:

Justwant2Bhealthy 02-21-2008 02:23 PM

 GEE, I hope you ladies are all OK!!!

PURPLE ~ SWEETIE is a real trooper; her tumor/lump has shrunk to about a third of it's size, so this may be actually helping her. I am simply amazed at how well she is doing; I'm calling her 'SUPER-DOG' these days ~ lol! I hope all those pressure treatments are working and helping you to feel better.

EUCHRE is kinda fun, esp with two sets of partners or you can play with a dummy hand; it's a trump game. The game is quick and involves strategy; we have Euchre tournaments in this country (like during our Winterfest). My parents taught us that game when we were kids; they played it a lot with their close friends; four of them would get together and have a social night about once a month (dinner and cards).

EUCHRE RULES ~ you use only face cards 9 to Ace (9-10-J-Q-K-A). When a suit is called trump, the JACKS become High Bowers ie Hearts is trump: Jack of Hearts is Right Bower, and Jack of Diamonds become Left Bower; then Ace down to 9 and so on. You deal each of four players five cards each; the idea is to take 3 out of 5 tricks to get one point or all 5 tricks for 2 points. If you go alone, you get 2 points for 3 tricks and 4 points for all five tricks.

It has similarities to Bridge but is quicker. The dealer turns up one card and the rest have to pass or order it up (then it becomes trump). Dealer picks it up to make it trump or turns it down; then the other players have a chance to pick a suit for trump. If none do, the deal is passed to next player. Then plays starts; you try to get your tricks, and the other team/players try to stop you as best they can. If they get 3 tricks, then you are EUCHRED, and they get the 2 points. The game goes to 10 points and you use the 2 and 3 face cards as counters.

SPADES ~ is that a kind of SOLITAIRE? I think I have played a solitaire game on-line that is called SPADES.

Hope to hear from you all soon; time for tea, so take good care of yourselves, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug:

valpal23 02-21-2008 03:54 PM

hee hee.. I'm okay enough I guess. I'm pumping advil, tylenol and multiple decognestants through my system but today is my first day back at work! I didnt have a sore throat but I do have an everlasting fever that really takes it out of ya. My brother has been down with it for over a week now too.

Work is full of constant drama. The local tourism industry is keeping me on my toes! Some people are a little bit too manipulative and controlling/fly by the seat of their pants while the rest of us need a plan ATLEAST a day or two in advance. Basically a bunch of us missed this huge important meeting on Tuesday BECAUSE the guy who put it together didnt email everyone until the day before - which was a holiday. lol and the drama continues.

It's only -12 today!! It's amazing. Summer might even be coming :)

Euchre? solitare? cards? I dont really like board games. I play Brain Age on Nintendo DS though. It's a portable gaming system.

:hug:s to all

Hi Ladies

Just come in a for a quick post been rather a busy week this week. Just come back from London today and it has kind of wiped me out as I did not sleep the best prior to going.

Spades is a game played with 4 player who play in pairs. Spades are the master cards or trumps. Each player has 13 cards and look at their hand and see what tricks they think they will make. You can even go for zero tricks. If the pair of you said you would go for 4 tricks between you and you get 4 tricks you get 40 points. If you get over 4 tricks each one counts as baggage. When you get up 10 baggage you lose 100 points from your score. If you go zero and get zero you get 100 extra points. If you go down on zero you get -minus 100. It sound complex in counting but when you play it soon all falls in place.

Sorry that you are not feeling well Valpal. I can fully sympathise with you getting bronchitis. I use to get it as regular as clock work sometimes with asthma which was awful. Get well soon and hope you soon back in full health.

Bye all going to have a rest now as I am falling asleep but I just wanted to stopped by to let you know I am still alive and kicking. bye bye

Justwant2Bhealthy 02-22-2008 11:52 PM

 HI LADIES ~ nice to see you both dropped by. We had a lovely, sunny day and I felt well enuff to go into town to do some shopping and errands; it was really mild too, almost seemed like spring, except for the mountains of snow out there ~ lol!

VAL ~ sorry to hear that you have come down with something; I used to get that a lot too: we have had a doozy of a flu for some time now. Dh says that he can still hear the difference in my voice, but I feel a lot better and that's what matters most. Oh, it seems awful to me that the younger generations don't know the delight of learning strategic card games. The problem for me with games like Nintendo is you play them mostly by yourself.

Our board game IS NOT a typical board game; it is a carved game of solid wood. It is a very large, round, nicely finished board with concave circles for the marbles, kinda like aggravation. It has unique rules that require skill and strategy and it is very fun. We played tonight and I won the series 3-1, much to DH's shagrin ...

PURPLE ~ I must have missed something; I didn't realize that you were going on a trip to London. Hope you're feeling rested up soon. SPADES sounds a lot like a game I have played before that was called something else here; but the name escapes me at the moment.

I'm pretty pooped-out myself, between the flu and a very busy week; so it's time to hit the hay! Hope you ladies have a restful and refreshing weekend. Take good care, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug:

purpleorc 02-23-2008 07:02 AM

Hi Ladies

Feel more rested today. DH left me in bed as I was exhausted and he went to take his sister and family to the airport which is about 1/2 hour away from us. He had to be at the airport at 10.30am. We are going out tonight and there will be a party of 6 of us. We are having an Indian meal, not exactly on plan :o but a treat that we infrequently have. So will have to be good for the rest of the week ;)

No you haven't missed anything just was a trip which was arranged at short notice so even I did not know that we were going till a day or so before. As trip to London go this one went off without a hitch. We have had some humdingers of journeys to London which I would not recommend or care to repeat anytime soon.

Like you Rosebud I like the strategy of playing different card games and trying to make it difficult for the opposition or fooling them and stealing tricks. I would imagine tonight will end up in playing cards with our friends. Not sure whether Chrissy will be able to play as cognitively her ms has effected her. I know that she is just going to a mobility centre to see if she can manage hand-controlled automatic car. At the moment they have car with gears and foot controls. Although she is finding it very very difficult to drive due to muscular weaknesses in her legs which has become quite pronounced.

Next week I am going to the oxygen tank only once to see if I can manage on once a week rather than twice. I was finding that when it came to the second session I really did not feel like I needed "topping up" so to speak. So this is an an experiment to see I can manage on one a week.

I am afraid I am not high on list of favourite people at the moment with my dog as I showered him this morning as he had a very distinct smell that was not exactly sweet smelling. So he has not come near me since I did the act. He is sulking big time but when we go for a walk when he has dried out he will be all over me.

Time to look at having a light snack so I can take my pills and potions. Bye bye and take care

Justwant2Bhealthy 02-23-2008 08:22 PM

 HELLO CHICKIES ~ We had another sunny, spring-like day today so we decided to go out for a drive. I just couldn't stand the thought of not going out and enjoying such a lovely day. The snow was even melting; I told DH that I think GOD is having pity on us becuz we have such high mountains of snow.

Our town has had to bring out the dump trucks to haul away the extra snow somewhere out in the country; and had to ask the citizens to be patient with them. Dh had to cut down one hill of snow so that I could see the bird feeder; the snow was hiding it on me. I want to see my birdies and the snow is half-way up my bird-house pole too.

Paid our energetic neighbour to clean my pathway; don't know what I'd do without him this year. DH certainly couldn't do that. We are just having a quiet evening at home tonight; maybe do some dancing and then play some YATZEE ...

PURPLE ~ glad you are feeling rested again; hope you have a night visit and dinner night with Chrissy and your friends. Will send up some special prayers for Chrissy about her MS and mobility. Hope she can find something that helps her too.

HAVE a great weekend ladies; and take good care, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug:

purpleorc 02-24-2008 08:51 AM

Hi All

Good afternoon, at present we have very black clouds looming over us I am sure we will have a good down pour before long. Hopefully then the sun will come out then.

Tomorrow we plan to go to Sheffield to a huge shopping centre called meadowhall. Looking forward to going. It has many shops under one roof. The main reason we are going are to go and get some more clothes. I am more desperate than my DH as my clothes are just hanging off me especially my tops. So hopefully I will find a few items that are not too pricey. I refuse to pay at this stage a lot of money for things as I do not get the wear out of them. I am in them a couple of months and then they look so baggy with the weight loss at present.

ROSEBUD :~ Thanks for the prays for Chrissy. Both my DH and I said that Chrissy looked better in herself than the previous time we saw her. Maybe because she was fighting a nasty urine infection which MSers can be prone to. This is all cleared up so she looks much better although her walking still remains extremely difficult for her.

Gosh I can not imagine that much snow that the government have to get trucks and cart it away to the country. I am glad that you have a kind and thoughtful neighbour. To have a neighbour like that is a god send when you struggle to do things. Unfortunately now days neighbours tend to keep themselves to themselves. There is less community spirit and mucking in to help others in need as once would have done. You would have know everybody in the street and did not mind helping them especially the elderly or less able. I wish that it was more like that today.

Well washing up is calling from lunch been putting it off but must get myself into action and sort it out. It is not as though there is lots of it just mustering up the enthusiasm to get the chore done:D bye fellow chicks catch up with you shortly

Justwant2Bhealthy 02-24-2008 10:49 PM

 HOPE you are all having a restful Sunday!!! Ours started with glorious sunshine again; and it was nice and mild again today. I made a lovely pot of creamed potato and vegetable soup for dinner; had it with bakery whole wheat bread. This is a nice, light dinner; and we had enuff to put up in the freezer for two more times.

We all had a nap this afternoon as we were up during the night with fever; one of our furry babies was sick too. By the time we all got up (around 5 pm), clouds had rolled in and it was getting darker. They are indeed calling for some more snow; so good thing a wee bit melted over the last few days.

DH's priest agrees that it really felt like spring out there today; we have been very blessed to have this spring-like respite in late-ish February. Dh is convinced that we will have an early spring; I really hope that he is right!

PURPLE ~ glad to hear that CHRISSY is feeling better. Hope you and Dh have fun shopping tomorrow; maybe you can get some colored T-shirts that can be worn longer, even if they are a bit baggy later on. That is all the rage in Canada with the young people here: oversized tops, pants, and jackets are 'COOL' now ~ LOL! You're actually in fashion, hon ...

VAL ~ hope you are feeling well and that you are having a good and restful weekend, my dear; and that your bronchitus is getting better too (I mean, leaving your body). I heard today that bad flus are spreading all over the US right now; so Canada isn't the only place with a lot of sick people.

Take good care of yourselves, ladies; your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug:
