Rosebud I like your photos on the Jan thread! So you got part of that winter storm too eh? It has been BRUTAL since Monday up here. We're talking -55 at night and -45 during the day (with the wind chill of course - but trust me it really did feel that cold)
Are you getting a lot of snow today? I think I heard Toronto shut down today. is the rest of southern ON closed too? Only two months till April! I keep telling myself that this cold will pass and soon enough I'll be walking outside without snow. all in time. thanks for starting the new thread Rosebud. Purple I hope you are still up and kicking :) And hi to the newbies who joined us last month! Come back and post when you get a chance :) |
Hi Rosebud, Val, and everyone! Not having a great day today, but I wanted to get in early on the February thread.
It's a beautiful day in the South and I can't imagine it being soooooo cold where you guys are! I hope you all have a great day and I'll check in later. =0) |
Hi Ladies,
Back to some form of normality instead of about 10 hour days either going to see dad in hospital or going to my oxygen therapy. I must say it has taken its toll on me and I am extremely tired but I really expected that. So the next few days are playing catch up on some much needed sleep and rest. I have just read through all the posts that I have missed in the last week or so. Thanks to all have posted and especially to Rosebud who has been very busy. Loved the photographs Rosebud of your back garden with all the snow. I have never seen so much snow in real life as you know we are not renowned for our snowfall, rain yes but snow no. They were beautiful, see you are getting plenty of pictures with your Christmas present. They are great these digital cameras you can take so many pictures and delete your disasters where you cut of peoples heads etc :D Dad is now out of hospital as you may have gathered he is now back at home. He is doing very well considering his other health issues of being on blood thinners and is diabetic. The only big downside to the hospital was the food was not very nice on the whole, so he was glad to come out and ate well on his first day out of hospital at my house. Think home cooking with more familiar food saw him tucking in nicely. He has the district nurse coming in daily to dress his wounds, but what I have seen of the site where they have taken the skin graft from it is healing slowly but OK. I know that due to his diabetes he will heal slower than others. I have now done my block of 15 dives in the oxygen tank I am now trying to do 2 sessions per week to see how I fair then maybe drop to 1 in a few weeks. At present I am going to do the deepest dive at 33ft but if that is not suiting me as much as I think then I will drop to 24ft. I do not think I have had the full benefit as I have been having such long tiring days. One thing I have notice that I am now taking less pain killers in between my normal doses that I have so that is a positive that I am pleased about. Thanks so much for all the well wishes and prays they meant a great deal especially on the day of the operation which is always worrying for anyone who goes under the surgeons knife. Though he sailed through it with no problems the only little problem he had one night his blood sugar dropped very low but apart from that he did extremely well. The low blood sugar could have happened wether he was in hospital or not it is just part and parcel of diabetes. On the healthy eating front managed to stay pretty much on plan with a few exceptions when things were just how they had to be with very little food choices if were eating out. So on the scales this morning it shows I have not lost or not gained which is a real positive under the circumstances. So now I am getting back in the swing of things again. Night night ladies and will drop by again soon. |
 HI LADIES ~ Well, guess who laid down after dinner (have a stomach flu with the fox trots); fell asleep and didn't wake up 'til the middle of the night? Huh-huh; me. That's why I am posting now; becuz I had planned to come on earlier ~ lol! Oh well ...
We had lovely sunshine today; they weren't expecting that, but I am so glad becuz the sunshine makes the cold temps not seem so bad. Dh worked on our car; changing a few small parts, so he was gone to a garage all day. Had a good OP day; had steak, salad, and lots of veggies for dinner. Just did weights, arm aerobics, and indoor walking today; plus some housework and such, but that's better than nothing. PURPLE ~ yes, I am having a lot of fun with that digital camera; can't wait 'til summer, will be able to get some of the lakes and flowers. Yah, I delete the ones that don't turn out so well; handy feature! I am so glad to hear your Dad's surgery went well, and that he is out of the hospital and doing so well; will pray about the healing process for him. CRBOWLES ~ nice to have you drop by; maybe tomorrow will be a better day for you. I like to go by the one-day-at-a-time adage; that way, if one day is muffed, the rest of the week can make up for it. It helped me a lot for dealing with pain issues; becuz one can imagine getting thru one day; one hour; one minute, even one second, if needs be ... VAL ~ We didn't get snow today, but I heard the south did; probably the storm we had that came from the Artic reached them today. My Dad and BIL both said that our day temps are the same and when get snow, so do they. The weather is much more similar now, than in the past for our province. Boy, those temps you have are very low; bundle up and cover all skin ~ lol. I remember getting back frostbite on my hands and thighs when I was a child; can't forget that kind of sting; kinda stays with ya ... Well, that's all for now; so nice to hear from you all, and have a great weekend. Take good care, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
Hi Ladies
Well we had a sprinkling of snow this morning to wake up to looked as though someone had gone along with icing sugar (confectioners sugar well I think that is what it is called). The snow has all gone now with the sun coming out but it remains a cold day. We are going out for lunch tonight at friends who will also have other guests coming. One is a lady who I have met several times who has MS like myself. Although she is having a rough time of it at the minute and is in the throes of an attack and is on steroids at the moment to help this. ROSEBUD:~ Sorry to hear that you have a jippy tummy at the minute it is certainly not much fun. Hope the sleep you had has helped some what. I say sleep is natures way of healing and can often do you the power of good. Good for you keeping up your exercise regime despite your snow fall which makes outdoor exercising difficult to say the least. I am slowly getting back into walking again after a short break from it when I was just too tired to manage it. I have started with a short walk to break myself in gently and will stay with that until that feels comfortable before walking further. CRBOWLES:~ Sorry your having a rough time of it, try hanging in there as there is light at the end of the tunnel though I know it does not seem it on your bad days. Glad you dropped by to post. Gosh February all really it does not seem possible the monthes sure do fly by quickly. It seems unbelievable that next month will be my one year anniversary since I embarked on healthy eating. VALPAL:~ Yep living and kicking and finally having less to pack into one day which is making it better for me. Just need to recover and recharge the batteries. Sound like your having heaps of snow along with Rosebud. Take care on the snow. Hope your knee is fairing OK in this winter weather as I read in one of your posts that it was again giving you problems. I have noticed you are still doing very well on your healthy eating keep up the good work. Time for me to go and make a cuppa my throat is so dry darn medication does that for me but i put up with the side effects as they take away the pain. Bye bye ladies take care  |
 HELLO CHICKIES ~ We've had more sunshine this weekend; all day yesterday so I went out SKI-WALKING and to take some more pictures. The kiddies next door wanted me to take some of them, so I did. We had sun again this morning, but the clouds rolled in this aft and brought a wee sprinkle of snow with them; not much though.
Had a quiet day; but had a long nap (the whole lot of us). We are trying to get over all these colds and flus; and like PURPLE says, sleep is a great healer. Made a nice Turkey-Veggie Stew for dinner; yummy and healthy (it's more like a very thick soup)! Got some leftovers for lunch tomorrow. PURPLE ~ WOW, you finally had some snow; yah, sometimes we get that funny stuff that looks like icing sugar too (almost looks fake). But the rest of the stuff we get is big flakes and very heavy, esp the last big drop we got. Your one-year anniversary is soon; and you are almost at the 100 lb mark, which is quite an accomplishment too. HI VAL and MO (if your're lurking); take good care and hope you have a great week coming up, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
Hi ladies
Well no more snow maybe that is a annual snowfall for this year ;) Not that I am complaining as snow really does bring our country to a swift halt as we do not have the resources to keep major roads clear. Today is brilliant sunshine be nice for a little walk in a bit. Yesterday was really black with cloud it threaded rain all day but none came. Going to the oxygen tank at 4pm today for my therapy I am ready for it as I feel tired and I have pins and needles in my toes. One thing the oxygen therapy does do for for is take that away and for the need of extra pain killers which is nice. ROSEBUD :~ Yes my year is looming up very quickly but the past month I think I have stalled but I am hoping the plateau decides to hurry up and stop but I must be patient with nature and let it do its own thing. Ski walking seems an extremely good way of exercising. Must work those thigh muscles and calf to say the least. I bet it burns a few calories up. Of course I have never done that as you know that we do not have the snow to do it. Although it is nice to hear of different forms of exercise even if they are not possible for me. Today I have got chicken and steamed vegetables for dinner. It is already made it is just to heat up in the microwave so easy day in the kitchen for me which I am grateful for as I was up and down to the loo all night. I had drank more yesterday so that was the result. Though I thought that I must try something as I was constipated. So upping the fluid intake now normally sorts the issue out. Right must go and take my breakfast medication as it is getting a wee bit late now. Catch up with you all soon take care ladies  |
Hi Ladies
Purple[/COLOR] It is such an accomplishment to be near your 1 year and 100 pounds! You've been so strong to hold true to the course this far. Way to go :cheer2: It is good to hear the oxygen tank has such immediate benefits for you. Rosebud I'm at 3fc nearly daily.... but I'm naturally a lurker :) I'm a people watcher.. so I guess that makes me a forum lurker. lol So this ski walking -- did you use cross country ski's? Do you have a groomed trail near your house or is the snow not too deep? I used to cross country ski when I was younger. It's great exercise. crbowles Sorry - I dont remember.. how far south are you exactly? So what does winter look like for you these days? I lived on the west coast for a couple years -- and winter = rain.. never anything literally freezing. I am well. I found out my disease modifying drug was reformulated so that I experience fewer injection site reactions - tomorrow will be the day I pick up the new formula so I'm excited to try it out and see if there is improvement :) I had been using all of my available injection sites but I'm having some long lasting reactions/welts that force me to rotate between fewer and fewer sites. I'm headed to bed. have a good one all  |
 HI LADIES ~ we had a busy & tiring day today; went shopping in town and walked and walked and walked. So my feet are throbbing tonight.
VAL ~ I was just teasing you gals about the lurking; I do it a lot myself ~ lol! Yes, I bought two pairs of second-hand SKI POLES (but they look like new; not likely used much) for only $1.00 a pair at a second-hand place here. You don't need any skiis; you just wear a really good pair of boots with good treds (so you don't slip). I have paths and a very large parking lot that is cleared (most of the time) for me to walk in; and along the side of the road if I want to. I also used to do cross-country skiing in college and afterwards when I was slimmer and in better shape. In Europe they do this year round and call it NORDIC WALKING and HIKING in summer and SKI-WALKING in the winter. The SKI POLES give you balance and actually help you walk in difficult terrain much better (like snow, sand, hills, paths and so on). It also gives you a workout in your arms and upper torso as well (whole body). It's actually very easy; that's why I love it so much (even someone like me can do it). NOTE: Just at the beginning watch not to overdo it, or you may end up sore the next day, as I did. Start slow; for about 20-30 minutes and work your way up. You weigh less than me and are taller; and are probably in much better shape overall, so you may not have my problem with that. BTW, I hope your new medication works out well for you too; and I like this new picture of yourself. Very pretty, and we can see your face better with a lovely smile (I think I can even see some dimples there too ~ lol). PURPLE ~ As I mentioned to VAL, the Nordic countries in Europe use SKI POLES with hiking shoes or boots and go walking year round. You can do it there too; for now you can just walk, but later on, you might find that the poles help your balance and stamina. It would be well worth a try; I know that it helps me tremendously. Well, I'm off to bed; wiped-out tonight, so take good care ~ your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
Hi ladies
Going to the market today to the book stall have not been there since before Christmas due to not having the time and the last weeks of December were mayhem in the city for parking so for us we said no to going in. Due to the length of time I have a carrier bag full of books even DH has a few he has read due to me being at the tank. Though now he does not seem to get much read he spends his time talking with others in there whilst waiting for me. He even got roped into counted money out of a huge vessel which was clear whose use was really for growing plants inside. They still had not finished counting it when I had come out of the tank which takes 90 minutes or so. There were four of them counting the coins but they were mostly of the lower denominations of our currency. VALPAL :~ Thanks for the well wishes regarding my health eating anniversary. I have been luckier than most people as I have a DH who is embarking on the same journey so we are encouragement for each other and keep each other from straying to far from the healthy path ;) Yes I am glad that I embarked on the oxygen therapy plus it is a time to meet other MSers so you don't feel so isolated which is often you feel. The only other time I had to speak to fellow MSers is waiting at the MS clinic to be seen by the doctor. I only go once a year and that has now been extended to 18 months so very infrequently really. Will be interested if the revised formula for your disease modifying drug is after you have used it a little. Lets hope it is improved and less reaction to the injection site. ROSEBUD :~ If things on the walking front need more assistance will look into the ski poles you talk off. As for the boots may look for some fake fur lined ones as my feet are now so often cold like blocks of ice. The only trouble is they must be extremely lightweight. I have a pair of trainers which look like shoes and oh boy I can only walk a very short distance as I tire so quickly in them due to the weight being heavier than my shoes. Right must get myself into action if I am going to the market. I still have a bit to do before I am anywhere near ready but I wanted to come on this morning and put a post before I left. Bye all   |
 HELLO CHICKIES ~ we had snow on and off today; the snowflake kind and a wee bit of sunshine around noon, but not for long. I'll take whatever I can get in the winter ~ lol! Just did stuff around the house today and took a nice, long nap this aft.
I did a lot of walking yesterday and that made my feet and legs sore, so I needed a good rest today. Tomorrow may be sunny, so I might be able to go SKI-WALKING again; I prefer to go outside anyways. I do march around in the house a bit on the days that it aren't so nice out there. Well, not much to report today; PURPLE glad things are well with you; hope you had a nice trip today and got lots of books to read. HELLO TO VAL ~ take good care ladies, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
Well Val, it's 70 degrees in the South and a HUGE storm is coming. There is already a tornado watch and wind advisory. I get we're in for a bumpy ride. At least we haven't had a cold winter. Then again, we never do.
At least my poor DS went back to school. He has severe strep and some tummy trouble. He has to have an Upper GI in the morning, so we'll see how that goes. Bless his sweet little heart, he's only 8 and he's scared. Purple, Val, and Rose, I hope things are going well with you all!!:grouphug: Have a wonderful day and I will check in later! |
Hi ladies
Good Afternoon today we are lucky it has been quite warm as it is sun-shining and has been since morning. I bet we get a frost though tonight. We went to the book shop in the market were I exchange my books came back with about 10 :o but took back about 20. Especially now I am using the oxygen tank I am reading even more. Due to the only thing you can do whilst on the oxygen is read or do crossword puzzle etc. This is as you can not speak with the masks on as they are think and noisy. So I get a hours solid reading let alone my normal reading that I do. I am watching a programme on television called medicine men go wild. They are going to remote parts of the world and looking at medicine used by other people rather than the modern western medicine. Last week it was pain and they found out that the mind is a powerful tool if trained and you can endure great pain by meditating. This week it is looking at a remote tribe of people in Russia who have very few heart attacks and they have a diet consisting mainly of fish, fat and a small amount of processed food. They have taken their cholesterol level and it is extremely low and have the fitness expected of a Olympic athlete, I have not finished watching the programme yet so do not know the outcome of the experiment the two identical brothers were doing so see if their diet plays a big part in low cholesterol. ROSEBUD :~ The trouble is will exercise it is fine balance for us not to overdo it and pay dearly the next day or so with aches and pains. I agree with you that exercise outdoors is better than indoors if the weather is kind enough to us. CRBOWLES :~ I hope that you and your family are OK with the tornado and wind watch. I am so luck that in England we do not have such worries and sometime I do not realise how lucky I am. Floods seem to be our biggest weather threat due to the amount of rainfall that we get at times. Although I am fortunate that I live on higher ground so that threat is minimal I hope that your DS is feeling better it is hard when your children are unwell. Do you have any other children? I do not have any myself although I think my sister had my share (4 nieces) ;) All the news I have for today, going to have a rest before I go out tonight to play cards. Hello to MO and VAL  Take care ladies catch up with all again soon  |
 HELLO LADIES ~ well the temps have fallen drastically, but we have that lovely sunshine back; tomorrow they expect -30C's plus the wind so that will be frosty chilly for sure. I just did a lot of housework today and tonight I just finished darning DH's wool socks while reading your posts.
PURPLE ~ glad that you can find so many good books to read at once; I have a hard time at my library, but I do like to read the magazines. Yah we have to find a balance while exercising, but I'm glad I can do some walking. Sometimes, I walk and forget how long I have been doing it (esp while shopping); then end up very sore for the next couple of days. CRBOWLES ~ NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN; will pray for safety for all you folks down there; and for your son that he won't be too nervous tomorrow and that all goes well for him. HELLO TO VAL AND MO ~ take good care ladies, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
hee hee hee
Rosebud - I get it now. ya go walking with the help of ski poles I need to try that! I'd like to buy snowshoes next winter -- for when it's warm.. we've got a huge snow covered field near my house (when I was really young the snow was too deep to walk through) but it would be a good work out with snowshoes and ski poles to keep me upright. Purple I'm glad you were able to meet some of your peers and have a shared experience with other MSers. I remember what it's like to sit at the MS clinic and feel a bond with everyone in the waiting room -- it's also good to hear other people are finding relief with the oxygen tank. I got my refill of drug this week but my pharmacy didnt have the reformulation yet.... which is frustrating because it's been out for over a month.. but I'm not suprised that the drug supplier is still clearing the 'old stuff' out... so it'll be another 2 months on this stuff... maybe by spring I'll get it :) CR I hope you're doing well despite the tornados I heard about on the news in the south. I received a notice from my MS clinic this week about joining something called 'telehealth' basically offering me the option of teleconferencing with my ms neurologist instead of driving 700+ kilometres one way. I think I'm going to take them up on the offer to save myself the grief -- but it depends how desperate I am to go on a trip 'to the city down south'. Winterfest in my town is this weekend. There will be jigging competitions (part of Metis culture) as well as traditional survival competitions -- bannock baking, tea making, log throwing etc and some local artists will be making chain shaw carvings out of local logs. Last year I went but got sick from spending the day in -30 degree weather. I'm going this year but I'll be more careful. Have a great weekend ladies :) |
VAL ~ YAH, you got it; I think others didn't understand what I meant either, but it is becoming so popular now you will soon see people doing it on tv and such. Yes, the poles give you balance and more strength, so you can walk longer in snow, sand, gravel, hills, paths, and so on. I saw pictures of it on a site about 'WALKING' (walking.com???); there was an article about this activity and how popular it is in Europe and how it's spreading over here.
You only have to buy the ski poles; and believe me, it is so easy you will be amazed. If you love the outdoors like I do, you will love it too. Yes, the poles would really help you with your snowshoes. I bought DH a pair of snowshoes several years ago for Christmas; he needs new bindings as his broke. I bought him a pair of poles too, so he could try that out. It was very cold today, so we just stayed home and did indoor stuff. Our winterfest is on this week and everything seems to be going well from what I can tell. The temps came up a bit tonight, so that should be good and we had lovely sunshine the last few days too which is nice as well. CR ~ yes, we heard about the storms on the news too; prayers you and yours are OK; and that your son's day wasn't too bad for him. PURPLE ~ HELLO, hope you are well today. That science show does sound interesting (about the natural medicines). Well, it's getting late; time for bed, so take good care ladies ~ your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
Hi Ladies
Did not seem to have the time yesterday to come on and make a post. Sometime the hours seem to just whizz by. I have spent a little time in the kitchen today cooking. I have made sweet and sour turkey and curried butternut squash soup. I have cooked enough for a few days of soup and 2 meal of sweet and sour so I will put one in the freezer and eat one today. I like to make extra meals for when I feel not so well but I can get a home cooked meal and very little preparation. I was so horrified yesterday when I switched on the tv and saw the devastation called by the tornado. I could not believe what I was seeing and it has upset me that nature can be so powerful and we are so helpless to its forces. I really hope CRBOWLES is safe and well and so are her loved ones because I think she lives in the effected area. I will pray that you are all safe and I am thinking about you. Not a lot to report here I am going to have a lie down and rest before tea. Take care all  |
 HELLO CHICKIES ~ We went into town today; and then the sun came out for us the whole time. Had a good time chatting with folks in town and picked up a few books too at the second-hand shop; nice place to meet lots of people. The only thing going on was the hockey game for the little guys today.
On the weekend, they will have all the special ceremonies, a torch-light parade; rides and games; and competitions and then the dinners. Tonight there was a talent show; last week they had the princess pageant and karokee nights. This weekend has more fun stuff planned with games at our new hockey center and then a smash-up derby to top it all off (which DH and his friends just love to go see). So I got some walking in again today and ate pretty well too; we had a homemade sub-type sandwich for supper. We use less meat and I added lots of lettuce and tomato to mine; haven't had that in a long time. Well, that's all for now; gonna go get ready for bed, so take good care ladies; your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
Hi ladies
We had a sharp frost this morning but it has been a glorious day with lovely sunshine. Had a walk this morning and it was very pleasurable as it makes a change from blowing a gale or chucking it down and ending up soaked. We are having a hot meal tonight as that is how things have panned out today. We are having chicken with loads of vegetables but every thing is prepared just needs cooking. I spent quite a bit of time preparing everything to make it easier for me today. Had some of my homemade soup last night it was very nice will be making curried butternut squash soup again. Very simple and few ingredience are need to produce a flavoursome soup. ROSEBUD :~ The smash derby sounds great. When I was younger every Sunday we went to stock car racing and banger racing. It was a good night out for the family with lots of fun. I loved the banger racing as the cars could make contact with each other and frequently banged into each other hence it was called banger racing. Also banger is slang term for a car which is old and a bit rough. I hope you have a great time there with your DH this weekend. Will love hearing about your time there and the time you both had. Funnily enough I did a cob (bread roll) with ham and lots of salad yesterday. It went down a treat it is ages since I had one of those. I found it very filling though. My eyes where bigger than my belly ;) (that is what we say when we have taken too much to eat and can not eat it.) Not sure if that phrase has crossed the water. Tomorrow we are going to the computer fayre which is held in the sports hall just around the corner from where we live. We need to get some inks for the new printer. The other printer finally gave up, I knew it was on its way out it took ages for it to accept anything to print. To be honest at the end the tested the patience of a saint. I have a Epson R285. It works a dream and I am very pleased with it. Right must go and check on the chicken I have in the oven. Catch up with you soon. Bye bye ladies and take care all  |
 HELLO CHICKIES ~ just took it easy today; DH has been very sick with the flu the last couple of days. He says he feels better now and still wants to go to the smash-up car derby tomorrow. He's hoping the weather will be good; but it would have to take a lot to cancel that, becuz it is the most popular part of the carnival.
When I was younger (in my teens), we used to go to the smash-up derbies all the time; a bunch of us would go together at least once a month (it was out of town). I spent a lot of time reading my books and doing puzzles today; had a nap in the aft and just made the meals and such. We had fish tonight; very easy. We are having roast chicken with veggies for Sunday (we usually have chicken or turkey on Sundays; one of our faves). I did some indoor walking and upper body exercises; everything helps. I didn't feel like going outdoors; it snowed later in the day. Wrote some letters today as well. So, that's all for now; can't believe how fast the days are going by; and it's staying light out longer now too! Take good care of yourselves, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
 WELL, HELLO THERE, CHICKIES ~ everyone seems to be very busy this week. Our temps have dropped here quite a bit. DH and his friends did go to the smashup derby, but I didn't becuz it was brutally cold out there. DH even had his big PARKA on and he was still cold: he forgot to put a big sweater on underneath like he did in the past.
Anyways, he says there were well over 1000 folks there to see it, and I'm sure if the weather had been warmer many more would have went too. I just stayed home and hybernated this year; though we did go into town at the end of the week. We had roast chicken for dinner Sunday with lots of veggies and Spagettini with meatballs tonight. Put lots of veggies in my sauce to make it healthier and use xtra-lean meat for the meatballs too. We try to vary our meals as much as possible so we don't get bored, and I measure the cooked pasta out well too (to watch the portion sizes). That's all for tonight; hope all our friends are feeling well. Take good care, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
Hi Ladies
Well we have had 3 days in a row which have been sunshine and very mild. So on Sunday just generally tidied up the garden and made it look better. It was looking a bit rough around the edges. Managed to catch up on the laundry which I was getting behind in. So all in all I have had a couple of productive days. I have been to the tank also yesterday evening so slept ever so well. Going shopping today for the weekly groceries. Need more fresh fruit as I am virtually out of it bar a few apples and bananas. This is what I eat if I am feeling hungry as there is not too many calorie in say an apple or banana but it fills a gap. ROSEBUD:~ Sorry to hear that your DH is poorly and very much under the weather. I hope that he starts to feel better soon. Your DH is a bit like me there are certain things come **** or high water that I like to go to even if it is on my death bed ;) Though sometime my DH tries to persuade me that it is not in my best interests to go poor thing has the devils job trying to persuade me otherwise. To be honest he is fighting a losing battle :o DH and I have had 2 days watching our medical drama that we hare so far behind on I think we cleared about 7 or 8 1 hour programmes so we have made a good dint in them. Like yourself I like to vary our meals or think up healthier alternatives to some of our favourites. That way we get a good variety of food and it makes it interesting. I add in where I can heaps of vegetable for vitamins and mineral but also to pack out a meal without packing in tonnes of calories. Dad is still having the district nurse come to see him every day to see to his wounds. Unfortunately the site where the skin graft was put had got an infection so he has been put on an antibiotic. The antibiotic has given his tummy some upset but that is because antibiotics kill off any bacteria but that can also be the good ones in the gut. Well must go and get ready to go shopping as it is getting on in time and as per usual not ready yet :dizzy: bye ladies and take care all  |
 HELLO MY FRIENDS ~ I so look forward to coming here and visiting with you all. Our temps are lower right now (-27Cish), but we had a gorgeous sun all day. Had to stay in all day though as I was very sick with a bad flu. I woke up in the middle of the night with fever and had to take a hot beverage that's just right for cold and flu symptoms (it's a hot lemon and honey drink with aspirin and stuff; works great for us).
PURPLE ~ you've been having lots of sun lately too; and how nice that you are able to glean up your garden in February. We're the same about the meals; I realized a long time ago that if I wanted to eat healthy for life, that the best way for me was to take our most favorite recipes and modify them so that they are healthier. I just couldn't live on carrot sticks and salad for the rest of my life ~ LOL! Does your Dad like yogurt? That can replace those good bacteria in the stomach and while enjoying a healthy treat. I like the SOURCE brand here (no fat; no sugar), but the Astro-Cremes are divine, esp their strawberry and cherry (but they are so hard to find here). I eat 2 or 3 fruits a day as well: apples, bananas, peaches, oranges, or pears; and I switch them up each day. In order to keep a good supply of fresh veggies and fruits, we have to go to the store more often; we go 1-2times a week, but in the winter, I try to supplement the fresh stuff with frozen, or canned if that's all that is available. Well, it's getting late; hope everyone has a great week. Take good care, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
Hi Ladies
Today enjoying the last day of sunshine as it is suppose to change after today if those weather folk have got it right. Our neighbours who have a lovely garden much more tended than ours as their hobby seems to be their garden has taken the opportunity to smarten up the garden. Well managed to get the shopping in and it is all done now for the week. May have to pick up some extra milk if I have not got enough but i normally get it about right. yuk I just took a sip of my coffee and I don't know I must not have had my brain in gear but I have put the sweetner in my coffee instead of my DH. He has his coffee white with one sweetner while mine is black with no sugar or sweetner. So I have had a total melt down :dizzy: Oh well the only way I can drink it now is put another sweetner in it and put a spot of milk in it. But I much prefer it black and no sweetner. I have drank it that way since I was about 15 and the same with tea. Although when I started to drink it like that then if you when to a cafe or resterant it was though as very strange. Although as the years have gone on it has become more popular and hence more accepted as the norm. ROSEBUD:~ Dad does like yogurt but trying to find sugar free is a nightmare in the UK so you try and find the one with the least sugar in which is not always the easiest job in the world. It must be must harder for you to keep your store cupboard with healthier options when the winters are so harsh and a trip to the grocery store is difficult because of it. I have none of those issues so if I forget something it is not a big deal I just go up the road and replace it. I do freeze a few vegetable to tidy me over but I dislike tinned vegetables. The biggest bulk of my shopping bill comes from fruit and vegetable. They are quite expensive they want people to eat health food yet it is much cheaper to get the "junk" food. The government needs a radial rethink to encourage you towards the healtier options such as fruit and vegetables, chicken, turkey etc rather than pies and burgers. Right time to come off my soap box. No more news for now, catch up with all soon. Bye for now and take care  |
 HELLO CHICKIES ~ we had another nice day with sunshine for the morning, but then a mini snow storm for the afternoon, so that was a good time for a rest (nap). I just had to have one anyways, so I can try to get rid of this nasty flu; boy I hope this one doesn't come around again.
PURPLE ~ you're a nurse; once you have a cold or more specifically, a flu bug, isn't it supposed to hit you lighter, if it comes around again. I heard this theory is what is behind the vaccines as well. Do you think that there is any truth to it? I don't think I could drink coffee without something in it; I use a sweetener and a tiny spoon of coffeemate (a whitener), as it's a lot less than cream, but I only have one cup of coffee most days (two at the most on occasion). Yes, it is very handy to have your shops so close to home. One of our two groceries is closing up mid-March. After all the big lay-offs here last fall, they just can't get enough business. Only one plant called the workers back to work in January. That means we will only have one full grocery store in our town to shop at. Before, if one had no bananas, then the other one might; so it was nice to have both. Change is taking place all over these days. I agree about the fruits and veggies; the fresh are best and the frozen are next. But in a pinch, I will eat green cut beans from a can. In the winter, we may only go to market once a week. I prefer to go on a sunny day and take a longer drive just for the fun of it. We finally got our car on the road for good this week; you have to have it inspected and certified before you can transfer it. We had to fix three things for the pass; so we are so glad that is done. It's nice to have a car with a fabulous heater and an air conditioner to boot. DH was so nervous about buying this car; I had to keep telling him to stop worrying so much. ANYWAYS, that's all for now; take good care all, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
I'm stumbling in after one of the craziest work weeks yet - yeah it's only Wednesday... the stress started middle of last week.
A high profile tour group from France came through town today and the new manager started on Monday. The France group's itinerary has been like trying to nail jello to a wall - plus the fact that as a young professional I've had many other more experienced work acquintances bullying me into doing what see best for my organization to do. By Monday I had stopped stewing/stressing about the situation and confronted somebody (it made me kind of angry actually the entire situation had me so stressed that MS symptoms ruined my weekend). Part of me believes I was confident enough to confront the person because I've successfully lost 75 pounds and I feel/act like myself again. End of the story. tour is done. group left safe and sound and on time despite a train usually 2 hours late and weather colder than -50. hello Purple and Rosbud I hope your week is going well. February 18th is Manitoba's first Louis Riel provinicial holiday :) Long weekend woo hoo!!! |
:val3: :val1: HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY LADIES :val1: :val3:
VAL ~ :congrat: ON THE 75 LBS! Glad you found the courage to settle that internal work problem; hope things will be better for you in the future. And maybe once your new manager gets familiar with his/her position, there will be less interference from outside sources. It's nice that everything went smoothly for your guests and things will be back to normal for you again. Gee you can keep those temps ~lol! It's colder here, but we have been blessed with more sunshine. I am babying myself right now; boy, this is a tough flu. My throat is raw and hoarse. Maybe I'll have a wee bit of ice cream to soothe it; just fruit nappy though. My SIL says that she had a bad flu for five months; I hope this one doesn't last that long: I'm looking for 5 days or less ~ lol! I guess the new holiday for RIEL means you will have a long weekend coming up; that's makes for more time to rejuvenate yourself. PURPLE ~ Hope you are having a good week too; and getting lots of rest from your busy schedule. Well that's all for now; take good care, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
Hi Ladies
Well the weather folk got it right the sun has definitely disappeared this morning very dull and looks like rain. Not so looking forward to my walk today can think of many reason not to go ;) none of which are very valid all excuses as it is cold and damp. ROSEBUD :~ Not sure about the theory of flu that you speak of never heard of that one before. The only thing I know about vaccines is that it is a tiny dose of the illness they are trying to prevent you from getting. The reason it works is that your body produces white cells to kill this hence then it gives you immunity to the disease. I have only had flu once in my life when I was about 16 and I was so ill it is the only portion of my life that I could not recall as I was away with the fairies so my mum and dad says. I really do hope you feel better soon as it is so horrid and wipes you out completely and for weeks after. Well I did not get time to finish my post so I will add on to the previously saved one. Today is nice weather managed to get all the dogs bedding and his jackets washed and dried. The weather is beautiful for drying. Suppose to be very cold for us in the UK at temperatures of -6c which may not seem very cold to you in Canada or USA for that matter but I have only ever seen temperatures of -8c once in my life. So I will leave the heating on low tonight so the house does not get too cold. Went to see mum and dad yesterday so did not have time to come a finish my posting. Dad is progressing well apart from the infection. Had an email from mum saying the district nurse will take a swab on Wednesday if the infection has not cleared up. He is on penicillin at the minute and has already had a course of flucloxacillin. At least if they do a swab they will know what bug they are dealing with and what antibiotic will clear it. Dad is going to see the urology specialist in March which is his 6 week check up after surgery so DH and I will be taking him to this. ROSEBUD :~ Sorry to hear that you are still suffering from this flu bug that you seemed to have acquired from somewhere. Let’s hope that it goes in five days not 5 months! It is a shame that a grocery shop is closing which is near you. It is not nice when good shops close and it is not good for the community either. Enjoy your new car with the good heater and air conditioner. ( I am envious I do not have air conditioner in the car which we have now, I am hoping that we can afford to have that luxury next time we come to change our car in about 18 months time.) VALPAL:~ :congrat: on losing 75lbs wow that is excellent. So glad that you have gain confidence since you have lost weight and becoming more like your “old self” . I have never been a confident person; I am fairly timid and always have been. The only area which I showed any confidence was nursing and taking charge of a ward and running that on a daily basis and taking the responsibility that entails. Plus standing my ground when a patient was displaying challenging behaviour. After the incident often I would think about it and all the thinks that could have gone wrong and feel a little shaky. I bet your friends and colleagues can tell the difference in you now you have lost all the weight that you have. I would think you are getting lots of compliment on your weight loss. I hope you are enjoying going shopping for new clothing or fitting back into clothes you once could wear. Last night I went out to play cards and have not been at this venue for over 6 weeks due to dad etc. There I over heard several people saying “gosh how much weight I have now lost and wish they could do it” It made me feel good. I had a look at my weekly weigh ins when I got home and realise that since they had saw me last I had lost about 20lbs or there abouts. So I suppose it was a significant amount to be seen. Enjoy your success you deserve it and keep up the good work. Have a nice long weekend relaxing and recharging the batteries after a busy time. Our next public holiday I think is Good Friday and Easter Monday which is in about a month’s time. Easter is early this year and so will mothers day because of that. Our mother’s day is different date to USA I do not know if that is the case in with Canada. Father’s day is the same day as USA and is some time in June. Must run going out this evening to friends and then playing games more than likely it will be cards or dominos. (12 dot variety) Not sure what we are eating tonight but what ever it is Joyce is a brilliant cook so I know it will be lovely. I always enjoy her food as she is so good. To Mo and CrBowles I hope you both are ok. Bye bye ladies and catch up with you soon  |
 HI LADIES ~ we have had a busy weekend; but we had lots of beautiful sunshine; it's snowing outside right now though. I have been very, very sick; lots of coughing and being stuff up, fever, and such. I have been taking my aspirin, hot lemon drink, and cough drops to ease the symptoms. It's been awhile since I had a flu quite as bad as this; and hope it doesn't come by again.
Between this flu and helping our little SWEETIE with her health problems and doing my work and house duties like cooking, I have been busy. I have been making things that are simple and quick until I am over the worst of it; it's day five today. I am just starting to be able to smell and taste my food again, but it's not back to normal yet. PURPLE ~ you have done very well only having one flu in that many years. I haven't been that lucky; we usually get at least one bad one each year or every other year. We've also had some colds in between for measure I guess. Hope they can get to the bottom of that infection for your DAD. Thanx for explaining about those flu vaccines. HELLO VAL, and I do hope MO and CR are OK too. We haven't heard from MO for so long it makes you wonder why. I guess she had become very busy, but we wish her the very best and hope she is well. Well it's getting late; just came in to check in; take good care, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
Hi Ladies
Went for a walk earlier than normal today really nice weather so was a pleasurable walk in the sun. We had a very pleasant evening out at friends and played cards with them. We played spades, gin rummy and another variation of that game koocan (?spelling of this) which requires 2 packs of playing cards. Gosh how the times goes when you play cards you do not realise how swiftly time passes when you are stuck into a card game. ROSEBUD :~ :getwell: you are really going through the mill. You are doing the right thing taking aspirin and wrapping up warm. Take plenty of fluids and that is about all you can do and let nature take its course. I wish I had some better advice but colds and flus are really difficult to treat and nothing can cure the common cold. I have an annual flu jab each year in about November time. Sometimes it leaves my arm achy for a while but better than the flu. I also have had the pneumonia vaccine which lasts me for 10 years so not due to have one of those for a long while yet. In the UK they advice you to have the vaccines if you are over 65, have asthma, heart conditions and I come under the umbrella of because I have an auto immune disease with MS they say my immune system is compromised. When I first started in nursing I had many common colds just the fact I was in close proximity to people but over the years I think I built up quite a immunity to them. I was thinking of your little sweetie today when walking our dog and wondering how she was getting on. I hope she is soldiering on and enjoying life. Our dog Rizzie gives me so much pleasure and makes me smile with his antics. Although I love him dearly he is definitely all my DH or any man for that matter. He is never nasty to ladies but is all over men like a rash :D Time to start making tracks for tea, we are having a cooked one as neither of us felt like a big meal after last nights fayre at our friends Joyce's. She cooks such great food you have to be careful that you do not over indulge too much;) Bye ladies and take care fellow chicks  |
 HELLO THERE CHICKIES ~ Guess what? It's snowing again; I am sure this has to be a record year. Haven't seen this much snow in many years, but I really don't mind it too much. I am just staying inside cuz I want to get over this flu; and I am starting to feel a bit better today. I can smell better and the taste of the food is coming back. I can actually smell our dinner cooking in the oven right now (BBQ Chicken and Riblets).
PURPLE ~ Our little SWEETIE is hanging in there; she is such a brave soldier like you mentioned. The tumor is a bit smaller but she is slowing down a bit now and sleeping most of the time. We cuddle her and baby her and make her all her favorite treats to eat. DH and I spend time just laying or sitting with her. Like when we were playing games this weekend, she laid on my lap and loved that a lot. She is my baby so it is very hard for me at this time. I don't know how to play SPADES OR KOOCAN. I like playing HEARTS, GIN RUMMY, EUCHRE, SUPER-CHASE (board game with cards), and YAHTZEE. I have learned how to play BRIDGE and KINGS. I used to know other games like CANASTA, but I haven't played them in so long that I forget the rules now. I have been doing pretty well keeping on plan, probably becuz I haven't been feeling that great. When I'm over this flu, I'll take some trips out SKI-WALKING again; for now, I am just doing indoor stuff instead. Well, I'd better go check on dinner now; so take good care, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
Hi Ladies
I have woke up to what looks like another glorious day, there has been a sharp frost over night though so the lawn is whited over. Today at 4pm I am off to the tank for my treatment then again on Thursday at 12.30pm. ROSEBUD:~ Sounds like Sweetie is being so brave they put humans to shame how they "put up" with lives illnesses they throw at them. Our Rizzie burst a blood vessel in his ear many years ago so his ear was blown up like a balloon. He must have been in agony but it did not seem to bother him. He had to have it surgically removed but it has left his ear like a crinkly cabbage inside. We where asked before the operation was done was he a show dog which our reply was no. I presume they would have done a much more complex operation to preserve the ear in some way. The only thing Rizzie was struggling with is the lampshade they put over their heads to protect wounds. After a few hours of him charging like a bull in a china shop to get through spaces he couldn't and bruising us in the process we decided to take it off. He was brilliant he never bothered to touch is ear he just seemed grateful to have that monstrosity off his head. I have heard of euchre but do not not know how to play it. I have never heard of super chase though unless it is marketed here under a different name. I have always loved games from a young ages and we were encouraged to play rather than watch television. So many weekends and holidays were spent playing many different card or board games. We even played a game that was my mum's from when she was a little girl. That was a card game with numbers which you either had to add or minus the number from the previous card played. Then move 4 counters on your own board from the top to the bottom. It was suppose to help children count without realising it was educational as it was wrapped up in a game. Time for me to disappear and get on with a few house chores which are begging to be done. Bye bye all and take care  |
 hi ladies
I caught a cold/flu from my brother end of last week...only it settled into my upper chest/broncials so I've been in bed since Friday night and pushing the clear fluids... lots of tea! I tried my own experiement this time around - I didnt take ANY vitamins or herbal supplements when I started getting sick. (Last time I did and within a day my cold blew up into an MS flare). anyways the point is... no flare here! just the plain old achy fever viral bronchitis. woo hoo!! thank goodness its a long weekend and I have time to rest :) and thanks for your encouragement about my weight loss Rosebud. After I lost 50 pounds or so I started getting scared that I couldnt actually get to my goal... but I think I'm over the hump now and I know I can do anything I set my mind too. I'll come back and read more when I'm feeling better. |
 HELLO LADIES ~ Yup, we had some more snow today; Dh went out and stood behind the snowdrift beside our feeder (which is getting buried) so I could take a picture of how high it is. One of our neighbours' dogs tried to run through the path and was buried up to his neck; wish I had the camera loaded for that one, but I have to take the batteries out after I'm done or the power gets sucked right out of them.
I'm up late becuz I was trying to catch up on replying to some emails; got way behind becuz I was so sick. Still have a few left to do, but I made a huge dent in them tonight. VAL ~ Sorry you have caught a flu also; may be the same one; I'm on day seven: had raw sore throat, totally stuffed up and phlegm in lungs which had to be expectorated regularly; my nose is red and raw in some places from being wiped so much. Sorry, if that's too much info, but it's a rough one. Didn't get to sleep 'til after 2 am becuz of it last night; hope it's better tonight. PURPLE ~ games were a big thing in our family too; we had six kids, so games were a great way to keep us busy and have fun at the same time. We often received games as Christmas gifts; and our parents played them with us a bit, but more so card games. WELL, better get off to bed; I'm nodding while I'm typing, no less ~ lol! Take good care, :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
 the day started out with sunshine again; and oh, how I love that in the wintertime. The most amazing phenom occurred: for the second time in two weeks, we had a rainbow in the winter! There was a fine sprinkle of the white stuff in the afternoon; but not that much.
Just stayed in today to protect my lungs as it was quite cold. Did house chores and baking and cooking and such. It takes much more time to look after SWEETIE each day; kinda like having a baby around, but the last two days she has really been more active. She's a doll and I'm so glad for the extra time we have to spend with her. I am eating well, but haven't been able to get any extra exercise in. Still am continuing to march around the place pretending it's my own walking track. Just looking for constant movement here, to burn up more energy; hope that helps. :^: VAL ~ gee, that's odd that taking supplements results in a flare-up of your MS; you'd think the opposite would be true. Glad you found something that helps, becuz the flu we have out here is really terrible. Hope everyone is having a good week! Take good care, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
 It seems to be my month for SIGNS & WONDERS IN THE SKY ~ did you see that beautiful red eclipse out there tonight? We watch it from our kitchen window, but went out onto the deck for a few minutes to get a closer look. The stars were incredibly close tonight too; won't see something like this too often in one lifetime.
Just checkin' in; had a good, but quiet day indoors. We had gorgeous sunshine all day, but it was extemely cold (in the -40C's with the wind chill). Dh said it was way too cold to be out for long; he came back in very quickly. Said he froze just going to the mailbox and back. HI TO VAL AND PURPLE ~ hope you ladies are well. Can't believe how fast the days are going by. Take good care, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
 GEE, I hope you ladies are all OK!!!
PURPLE ~ SWEETIE is a real trooper; her tumor/lump has shrunk to about a third of it's size, so this may be actually helping her. I am simply amazed at how well she is doing; I'm calling her 'SUPER-DOG' these days ~ lol! I hope all those pressure treatments are working and helping you to feel better. EUCHRE is kinda fun, esp with two sets of partners or you can play with a dummy hand; it's a trump game. The game is quick and involves strategy; we have Euchre tournaments in this country (like during our Winterfest). My parents taught us that game when we were kids; they played it a lot with their close friends; four of them would get together and have a social night about once a month (dinner and cards). EUCHRE RULES ~ you use only face cards 9 to Ace (9-10-J-Q-K-A). When a suit is called trump, the JACKS become High Bowers ie Hearts is trump: Jack of Hearts is Right Bower, and Jack of Diamonds become Left Bower; then Ace down to 9 and so on. You deal each of four players five cards each; the idea is to take 3 out of 5 tricks to get one point or all 5 tricks for 2 points. If you go alone, you get 2 points for 3 tricks and 4 points for all five tricks. It has similarities to Bridge but is quicker. The dealer turns up one card and the rest have to pass or order it up (then it becomes trump). Dealer picks it up to make it trump or turns it down; then the other players have a chance to pick a suit for trump. If none do, the deal is passed to next player. Then plays starts; you try to get your tricks, and the other team/players try to stop you as best they can. If they get 3 tricks, then you are EUCHRED, and they get the 2 points. The game goes to 10 points and you use the 2 and 3 face cards as counters. SPADES ~ is that a kind of SOLITAIRE? I think I have played a solitaire game on-line that is called SPADES. Hope to hear from you all soon; time for tea, so take good care of yourselves, your friend :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
hee hee.. I'm okay enough I guess. I'm pumping advil, tylenol and multiple decognestants through my system but today is my first day back at work! I didnt have a sore throat but I do have an everlasting fever that really takes it out of ya. My brother has been down with it for over a week now too.
Work is full of constant drama. The local tourism industry is keeping me on my toes! Some people are a little bit too manipulative and controlling/fly by the seat of their pants while the rest of us need a plan ATLEAST a day or two in advance. Basically a bunch of us missed this huge important meeting on Tuesday BECAUSE the guy who put it together didnt email everyone until the day before - which was a holiday. lol and the drama continues. It's only -12 today!! It's amazing. Summer might even be coming :) Euchre? solitare? cards? I dont really like board games. I play Brain Age on Nintendo DS though. It's a portable gaming system. :hug:s to all |
Hi Ladies
Just come in a for a quick post been rather a busy week this week. Just come back from London today and it has kind of wiped me out as I did not sleep the best prior to going. Spades is a game played with 4 player who play in pairs. Spades are the master cards or trumps. Each player has 13 cards and look at their hand and see what tricks they think they will make. You can even go for zero tricks. If the pair of you said you would go for 4 tricks between you and you get 4 tricks you get 40 points. If you get over 4 tricks each one counts as baggage. When you get up 10 baggage you lose 100 points from your score. If you go zero and get zero you get 100 extra points. If you go down on zero you get -minus 100. It sound complex in counting but when you play it soon all falls in place. Sorry that you are not feeling well Valpal. I can fully sympathise with you getting bronchitis. I use to get it as regular as clock work sometimes with asthma which was awful. Get well soon and hope you soon back in full health. Bye all going to have a rest now as I am falling asleep but I just wanted to stopped by to let you know I am still alive and kicking. bye bye  |
