He just gave up on the diet and he eats all the wrong things. And today we are going to Golden Corral!!! After church-we will give a short talk at Sunday school-leaving this afternoon. Brought a lot of food to Mike. Had dinner there, Hope you got a massage Anne-I will get on back home pronto-last time I got one here , I was worse than before=same with hair-I want Carla back.
Bye for now-I will be in cyberspace for a while. Behave yourselves. Mima
  • Hey There
Hey Everybody- It is not beach weather here right now..I am back with the sweater.. Usually at this time of the year it is really warm. Yesterday we had on th ac.
I have been trying to work on my weight again.. I want to lose at least 5 more lbs.. I do good for a couple days and then not so good when I get frustrated..My worse downfall icecream and bread . I stopped buying bread. I am trying to watch carbs.. We went to lunch after church with our son and his wife. He ordered a bunch of chips and salsa. I have no willpower..I did better the rest of the day.. I'm trying to take it day by day. I know 5 lbs doesn't sound like much but it really is to me.
I go for blood work tomorrow. I hope my sugar and colesterol is down..
    Otherwise I feel pretty good.
I guess Mima is on the way north. Drive careful.
Happy is still in the snow I guess.
    And Mema where are you?
    Joanne
  • Sorry I have been MIA. I have had a real bad time lately. I finally had the MRI on my knee this past Monday and was suppose to see the PA in the morning to get the results. Well my dang arm started bothering again...and it was bad. I haven't picked up a bowling in over a month. So I figured it was from all the computer time I was putting in. Sooooo I had to start wearning the brace on my wrist all the time which makes it real hard to use the computer. Shhhh I don't have it on at the moment. My arm was to the point that the tendon was really swollen and shooting pains down my arm. So I called ortho and got in with the PA on Friday. He did yet another injection of cortisone into my arm. I laughed and said with 6 cortisone shots since Dec there shouldn't be a dang thing on my bod hurting. If only that was the truth. He looked at the MRI and I have a torn ACL, menicus, and no cartilage in one area. So the PA's plan is to have see the surgeon and have him do arthoscopic surgery to the knee to clean it all up and do some mirco fractures by drilling holes in the bone where there is no cartilage. This will be a temp fix and I will still be looking at knee replacement as soon as 2 months but I might get away with it for 5 years. When I get into see the surgeon I am hoping to talk him to the replacement and forgetting the temp fix. Then if my arm doesn't get better with this last injection I will then have to have a tendon release on it. If the first 3 didn't do the job I really don't have much hope for this last one. Well I need to get the brace back on...arm is starting to burn again. Hope everyone is doing fine.
  • 314 is pretty high for a reading. Glad that Brad is going to be watching it a little closer. Have a safe trip Mima!!

Joanne, we are in the 50's today, but the wind is blowing so it feels much cooler than that. Ice cream is definitely my downfall too. We do have to take it one day at a time. Hope your blood tests turn out ok, and I hope your doctor is nicer than mine was this morning.

I took a paper with my BP readings and glucose ratings from the past couple of months to show the doctor how I've been doing. He still insists that I am diabetic even though all of my readings have been "normal" and below. The test at the hospital for glucose was 100, and that is NOT diabetic. I am getting so frustrated!! I realize that diabetes is in our family, but maybe I'll be one of the ones that isn't!! My cholesterol level was down from the last time (quite a bit) but he is talking about putting me on medicine for it! I cried when I got out to the car. When I was in his office, I think I was so shocked by the diabetic talk and the cholesterol I didn't even talk to him about my back pain. We have talked about changing doctors since we moved, and I think this is a good reason to move to someone else. With our insurance changing with the retirement, we are going to have more out of pocket expenses. We don't need that.

Chris, sorry things aren't any better for you. Hang in there!
  • Hey There
Tammy- My Dr. told me anything over 128 was diabetic.I am going to ,have to ,do better than I have this week..No willpower.. When my hubby retired we had to go to another health plan. Humana... There was different plans for retirees. We don't have that much out of pocket expenses once we get through that donut hole for the meds. Co-pays depend on what they are for. My meds are 5 dollors each and right now the hubbies are 30. All his meds are brand. No Dr. co-pay unless it is specialists. We are somewhat satisfied with our Dr. I knew him when I was nursing. He doesn't go to hospitals anymore but has a good staff of good Dr's in his office. His practice is just too large and he had some heart problems so had to cut back.He is young too.Maybe in his 50's.
It was in the 60's here today. May be close to that tomorrow. Then it is supposed to warm up.I am fighting a sore throat. I guess the change of weather. I haven't been sick this winter. I sure hope it clears up..
    Hello Everybody...Joanne
  • Hi ... I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since I've been in here.

MY TAXES ARE DONE! HOORAY - HOORAY!

At first I was stressing out (time wise) with getting the choir to learn the Easter Cantata by the 8th ... they did great. The last 2 weeks I've spent hours and hours working on getting our business taxes ready for the CPA. I was up until after 3 in the morning most of last week. We took them to the CPA last Thursday night ... we only owe $1200 this year. Then I had my house which I had completely ignored for 2 weeks, had to play catch up. I'm so close to having that office finished and ready to use but now I'm so tired and in so much pain. I have too much to do. I guess I need to scale my life down some. I'll have to figure out what to cut! Not going to be easy!

I had a lot of reading to do to catch up. Sounds like all of you have been doing good ... I'm glad you all had a good Easter. Welcome to our newbie. Tammy, glad you sold your house. The longest I ever lived in one place is here ... 17 years. I have lived in 26 different places!

I'll try not to stay away for 2 weeks again ... I missed you guys.
  • Joanne, I had a reading of 126 once, and the doctor said that was diabetic. That reading I had done right after Christmas one year. Dumb move on my part, and now it's coming back to bite me in the behind!! With our new insurance, we chose to pay a lower monthly rate with a higher deductible. I think it will work out ok, because I don't think we'll have that many bills (I hope!!). The prescription coverage is quite good.

My BIL just called from Tampa. We were talking about the crazy weather.

MEME, IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT YOU GOT BACK HERE!!!!!!!!! Glad that your taxes are finished!! You can come on up and tackle my house since you are experienced at cleaning!! Actually, ours doesn't look too bad for once. lol

OH!! BIG NEWS!! We came back from the casino on Sunday with more $$ than we took to "play" with. We were very pleased. I had so much fun walking around just watching people!! I know that I got plenty of walking in during the day for sure. I'd like to go back and just stay in the hotel! It is so glamorous and fancy!! Not our usual kind of place. lol

We have to go to the Bursar's Office tomorrow at Ball State, so we're going late enough that we can pick up Tim for a late lunch. I'm sure we'll be heading to IHOP. We all like that place.

Anne, the vacation plans aren't going to bring us close enough to you for a visit. I wish we could meet!
  • Hello everyone! We had a nice visit with Tim today. I ended up getting a salad, and the guys had breakfast. Boy did they eat alot!! Sure looked good, but my salad was really good too.

I keep thinking about my doctor. I have the lab order to go have blood done in 3 months for the sugar and cholesterol. I told Bob that I'm not going to do it. I'll just keep doing what I've been doing, and possibly even watching things a little more closely. We have gone to this doctor for ages, and I don't understand the change in him. He has merged with another group from here in the county, and that's when we noticed changes. I do know that he isn't sure that fibromyalgia is a real thing. He NEVER mentions it when I'm there. Sure glad that I have my rheumatologist!!

Hope you all had a great day!
  • Are you all on vacation together or partying somewhere without me???
  • Hi Tammy. No party and no vacation - yet! You sure don't want to be here at the moment. It started snowing yesterday, with intermitent rain. At this time of night, it is snow. It isn't just at freezing so it isn't cold, but by morning the roads will be icy. Spring is having a terrible time getting here this year! We don't usually have snow this late in April. The good thing is, is that it will be gone on the first nice day, which is going to be Saturday In the meantime, I am hurting from this darn weather. My feet feel like I am walking on nails.

I have been going out, however, and doing some shopping. I have put off buying nice clothes since I stopped working 10 years ago. For work now, all I wear are scrubs. So, I have been having fun. Today, I bought a beautiful navy skirt. It doens't add extra inches to the old body, so I am happy. It is a longer cut as well (it's a summer skirt). Also, got a nice paid of silver sandals to go with. I can go spend $150.00 on shoes and not get a narrow fit, these were at Sears and were on sale for $19.99 and they fit perfectly. I just hope they last for the summer I also bought 2 pairs of capri's and a pair of dress pants, some new Tshirts and a couple of dressy tops. I am NOW set!

I am glad that you guys had a good lunch with Tim. Tammy, it is normal for the Dr. to want to monitor your glucose levels. We get lots of this at the lab. Every 3 months for a year.

Tammy, I am glad the house deal is finally final. It must be a relief in a way.

Meme - were glad that you got those taxes done and came up for air You need to do what makes you happy and leave the rest. I know you love your gkids. We all do, but looking after them all day for a few days is very tiring and that is just with one. I don't know how you do it. I hope your pain has eased.

Joanne - I sure hope your throat didn't turn into something yukky!

Mima - I don't know how long it takes you to get home, but I hope you have a safe trip.

Chris - I hope you are doing better. Is the Dr. going to do surgery on that knee?
  • Meme, you can vent anytime you like! Your life is very busy and I am NOT one bit jealous Seriously, you will have to pick and choose. Giving up teaching the piano is a start, and having hubby home to look after the business in the AM is another good thing. Perhaps you can find time to rest.

Talk to your Church and tell them you just can't be responsible for everything. Your health is important and you need to look after yourself. You do so much and then you run on empty. Cut that back.

As for your kids - tell them that you are available only one weekend a month. If you weren't living so close, they would have to make arrangements for somebody else to look after them. I know you love those gkids, but they are tiring. As much as you may look young, you still aren't the same as you were when you were young

As I said before, pick the things you really enjoy doing and forget the rest. Of course, the gkids aren't included in that one.

I really hope you can get this straightened out and at least slow down to a trot!

Here is a good site. Some of you might be interested in what this Dr. has to say. I think you have to sign up on this site, but the info is really quite good.

  • Aw shucks Anne ... and here I was hoping to provoke a little envy ... but sympathy is good ... I'll take commiseration! As we get older, life is supposed to slow down ... not get get busier and more complicated. I'm really glad I have a life ... many women at age 60 are widowed and have no life at all. I don't want that. I just want to be able to enjoy the life I have at a little slower pace. It won't be long until all 4 gkids will be too old to want to come over and spend the night ... so I don't want to miss out on the overnights, either. Garrett will be 12 next weekend ... just a few more years will get him! It's a delima, alright!
  • Hi -we are home to a flooded cellar!! Into the new apt which is ok cuz it only ruined one piece of sheetrock-another dilemma before we fix it up.
Meme-priorities-God, yourself, family and others. Think about it. Get a Dome book and keep track of the business and then you woon't have to spend so m,uch time-a reformed tax preparer. Oh I so full of advice.
    Stuff evereywhere.
We got stuck in the mud in the yard because I wanted the car in the back. They had an awful storm here-my brothrer's camp is surrounded by mud in VT becuase the road above let go.
    Gotta get to work. Mima
  • Hey There
Meme- No envy...Sounds like a lot of people are taking advantage of you..Last night at Tops the subject about making vests for the club came up. It was suggested by one of the members that I make them. It didn't take me long to let them know ' that was a lot of work and no thank you.'I did make a few a few years ago that I never saw anyone wear.. Now if they want them they can pay someone to make them or make them themselves. I don't want to take my time even if they want to pay me.I am 74 years old and have my own projects. Cut back ,Girl. As long as you keep saying yes ,it will keep coming.
Mima- Glad you got home ok. Too bad about the mess you found..
Happy- I think it is allergy working on me. The oaks are blooming as well as other things. My daughter must be going through the same thing. The pines are putting off pollen. This has been a crazy year.. It is so much fun to buy new clothes..Plus just about every store are having sales.. Down here we wear almost the same thing year around.
Tammy - We are going to go on vacation to St George Island in August.. My daughter has rented a house for a week.. We haven't done this in a few years. It is right on the Gulf. We just walk out and sit on the beach. It is sorta isolated and that is what we like. Water, sunsets and rises, and books and each other.TV not so good there although my hubby and son-in-law will find something. My SIL sets up something to bring in stations. They would have a fit otherwise. The men need the TV I guess..Just family time.We have to take food for the week or go about 15 miles to find a grocery store.. Hope there are no storms then..
Have a Good Weekend Everybody...It seems like the days around here are always the same..Joanne
  • Anne, I would not like the snow and the rain, you are right. Good for you for going shopping and getting some nice things. You deserve it!!

My doctor has been having me go for glucose tests at the hospital for 3 years now. I think that's long enough to do it so often since it hasn't been high except the 126 several years ago. Now that we are paying more with the insurance change, I don't want to do it as often.

Meme, I agree about giving up something, but it is such a hard decision. Sounds like giving up the piano teaching is a good idea though.

Mima, how awful to go home to a flooded cellar! How much time will it take to get things cleaned up?

Joanne, good for you for saying NO about those vests! St. George Island sounds wonderful to me. Just being together and hanging out is what we enjoy most about Jekyll Island when we go there, and it isn't really isolated.

Not doing much today. Packed up a couple bags of clothes to take to the consignment shop. Stopped there yesterday and I had $30 coming to me!! I like that.
