Hey There

I have been really busy lately.. House breaking a puppy.. I am beginning to think she is breaking me.Most days I have been lucky.. Other days I think it is the war af wills..Nights have not been controlled yet. At least she is confined in her crate.. I just have that to clean out every morning.. Thank God for cleaning fluids.. and vinegar.. And she gets a bath. She will be 4 months old next week. We are having her fixed the first week of Feb. I hope that will calm her down.
It has been really warm here.. We haven't turned on the air but one time. We use fans and that is ok,untill it gets over 80%.
I am trying to watch what I eat.. Meme is right. The weight gets on before we know it. Frustration makes me eat..I have been getting on the t/m . God, that is boring. I bought Vince Gills book cd's. That helps. My nerves needs the exercise.I am drinking a lot of water and green tea. That isn't new. I do that anyhow.
Nice picture Mima.. That is the one thing I haven't tried. I can make anything you want. needle work always was easy for me. I still make most of my own clothes. I love quilting.. I may have another quilt in me before I get too old. :carrot: My hubby is always saying that's enough. I have give all of the ones I made away except one. I want to make another one for me.They are big to fit the bed.
Ok guess I will go chase the dog out of my chair..Joanne

Mima 01-17-2007 05:58 AM

My dil surprised me when she said she was making a shirt for Brett and it was really nice!!!!
I have a Meme saga about docs. I went to the skin doc and they told me I had a basal cell crcinoma and I was expecting they woulsd remove it right then and there, No-I had to go to a special skin doc. can't you just see dollar signs-we are out of plan down here, So I called one and they said you have to come in for a consult-I said I already had 3 appointments about this thing-it's so tiny!! No you have to come in. So I made the appt and then called the other doc on the list. I only had to go there once-just fax the report over, So I cancelled the other appt and told them why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then I talked to Angela with the really low thyroid and her doc didn't give her any med and said to go to endocrinologist on the 22 of Feb. I told her to talk to them herself today.Hope she gets satisfaction. They are coming here on the 10th of March. All she wants to do is sleep.
Today is good-Art and church supper and a class!!!!
hope you get all your money, Tammy,
Anne, I sure understand about sugar because of my cravings!!!I went off it once and got depressed.
First time I didn't have a stomache ache last night-I took peppermint which I haven't been doing. I also swam and walked.
Watched Idol for 2 hours-stupid to do that.Still wake up early.
Joanne, quilting is so rewarding!!!!I couldn't live without making things.
Brad -who can't live without construction-is putting an air system in the lanai because it gets so hot out there , he can't work.
Bye for now, Mima

Tammy 01-17-2007 09:17 PM

Anne, one of the teachers mentioned today that I am getting giddy the closer the date gets here. She said she doesn't want to be there the last day because she figures I'll be floating. I'll probably be crying too. I have a friend who is also struggling with the sugar after the holidays. Congrats on the yeast being gone!! Woo hoo!!

Joanne, I'm sure you and the puppy are becoming the best of friends, all that quality time together and everything. lol I'll bet your quilts are beautiful! How long does it take to make one the size that would fit a bed?

Mima, I think we have all been having doctor issues lately. I was billed for an appointment that I had in October that I already payed for. I have the cancelled check. That office has just messed up too many times. You had a busy day planned. Hope it went well.

It's pretty nippy here. About 15 degrees at noon today. I guess it's supposed to be cold in January though.

MemeToo 01-18-2007 01:56 AM

Doesn't this time of year suck ... I think it's the pits. I can't really commit to DO anything. Plus, I'm getting a stinking cold. If I drank ... I could use a bottle of something right now but I don't think wine would do it!!! :p But ... alas ... I'm a teetotaler. My brain is already foggy enough without the added stress of alcohol.

I did, however, commit to an eating plan. I'm winning the losing battle so far this week. If I feel better by the weekend, I'm going to try to work on the basement and getting the new office furnished. It's so cold. I ventured out today but only got out of the van at 2 places. Hubby went to church out to eat and the funeral home tonight but I stayed home & had a grilled cheese. I hate cold.

Joanne ... do you remember Nikka ... the little black (hyper) poodle I had back nearly 2 years ago that I never could potty train and finally sold? Your puppy sounds a lot like her. I wouldn't care to have a small, inside dog but that experience about has me too afraid to try again!

Mima ... where was the spot you are having removed? Was the skin doc. you were going to actually a surgeon? If it was on your face, he may have been afraid the roots were deep and it would leave a deep scar or something - they can't actually tell how far it has spread until they start cutting on it. My FIL has had multiple facial melanoma surgeries and I have taken him for several of them ... not a pleasant experience for him sometimes. Then again, he has had several tiny places burned off at the same time without surgery. Just depends on the spot.

Tammy, I get giddy when we have days like Martin Luther King Day and I don't have to teach just one afternoon, so I can imagine how giddy you must be getting by now!!! ;)

Mima 01-18-2007 07:04 AM

It's a small spot and it's not melanoma. Made the appt but not to March 19 so I called my MA doc and he said it wouldn;t hurt to wait. He thought they were just trying to make money although I read that special surgery is better. I will get it in MA.In April when I will have my good insurance. Can you imagine what 20% of that surgery is?
Class at church was different-about doing a cleansing and we are temples of our bodies, Brad is already a dropout and he would have leaned something. He eats too many carbs.I will take his sugar today-that's the only thing that scares him.
Our friends are back from Missouri-the ones whose daughter lost her husband at 43. She is back in grad school.
Angela has an appt today with the endocrinologist. She definitely panics about health issues and goes to the emergency room a lot. She riled me up the other night because she always says her husband's temper is caused by Brad. He had a temper-still does but it's that he has a low frustraion level. Well, I had to defend him because he is a wonderful husband, I wasn't so nice back in my 20's. When she called back to apologize, I said you have to take responsibility for yourself and stop blaming your parents. Believe me-been there done that. I think that's why I always want to fix her because I used to be like that.
Glad to be home today. My new painting is funky-painting with a palette knife-won;t do that again.I willl finish this.
Mima ps-tammy I had so many emotions when I retired and I did go into a funk after. But I was alone then. No funks. now-no time for them.

Joanne D 01-18-2007 10:42 AM

Hey There

Meme- Yes I remember the poodle . I think if I can get this puppy through the puppy stage she will be a good house dog. So far no accidents in 3 days. I get up a little earlier and she has a clean bed. She is more active than any dog we have ever had.
Tammy- The puppy wants to be in my lap every time I sit down.. I am trying to break that. That is just not my style..When my hubby retired he got depressed. Don't let that happen to you. Stay busy..I was still nursing so he was home a lot . He is not the type to have hobbies. It was like when he retired he stopped doing anything. I have learned to just adjust. I did get him a Peke. That helped. At least he had to get out of the rocker and take him out 4 times a day.I am pushing him to take this dog out, but, he doesn't seem to really know how to get her to do what she is out there for. Life at a older age is not much fun right now.
It takes me about a year to make a quilt. I make them all by hand. The last one took longer because I didn't stay with it a lot. My eye sight was really bad and that didn't help. Now I realise how bad my sight was..
Mima- Our grown kids can be a pain in the neck.. My son is a pain at times. Other times he can be really nice..
If my hubby could eat junk food at a steady diet he would. I just am persistant enought to make him eat a decent meal a few times a week..When he complains about his weight I just say blame it on the cake ,icecream and the rocker not me.He likes the carbs too.
Hello Happy- I see that you are getting a lot of the cold weather. We need a little cold to get rid of some bugs. They are predicting a problem this year with flies. I must get someting for our dog soon. I can't stand the bites. I am allergic to bug bites.
Joanne

Tammy 01-18-2007 08:10 PM

Meme, good for you for committing to an eating plan. I wish you the best!! I went out today to get the mail and to go to my WW meeting. A nice warm house is better than the cold outside.

Mima, painting with a palette knife? How do you do that? I must admit it sounds interesting. Bob has already mentioned going away next fall when school starts so I'll have my mind on other things. Of course college football will be starting up again, and we'll be there to see the band (hopefully Tim makes it again).

Joanne, our dog follows me everywhere I go, and always wants to be beside me in the recliner. I let him. He keeps me warm!! When I take a shower, he'll be laying right outside the bathroom door waiting for me. Bob says that sometimes he cries while he's waiting for me. Pitiful! I think I'll stay busy after I retire. We were talking last night about setting up a schedule for going to the Y most days of the week, going for walks, walking to the library, and just getting out and enjoying nice weather and each other. You are so dedicated to make a quilt that would take that long! I started a crosstitch years ago and lost interest after a couple weeks. I did finally finish it though. That was before Tim when I had the time. sounds like all of the hubbies like carbs!! Bob's love is mainly the potatoes, gravy, and bread more than cakes or ice cream though. Hope you find something to protect you and the dog from the bugs!

Mima 01-19-2007 06:30 AM

It's Friday

I got rid of all my cookies and temporart files so I have to keep typing in passwords etc. I have to remeber them!
Not loving the palette knife painting-right now my picture is ugly-but then I have only worked on it once. It used up all my white paint.
Tammy-you already know how to do 2 days a week! You have a good plan. I used to go to the Y and there were so many people there that did that.
Angela went to the endocrinologist and they really don't know why she is exhausted-maybe mono-only one level of her thyroid is low. She is so overweight , so is Brett and her diet is terrible.. If they were in my class Wed, they would hear how what they eat affects everything.I am going to get the book.
We watched Narnia last night-Brad said this is a kid's movie but then he got into it. Lots of Christian symbolism.
Wow-it's warm everyday here!!!We have a fly buzzing around in Art class!! Course, we have tons in MA.Puppies are wild-my son's dog is so different this year. Much calmer!!!We had American chop suey-I used rice pasta and no sauce. It makes us miss Cassidy because he loved it. He would moan while he ate it/Now I have leftovers!!!!!
Washed 3 floors with a mop yesterday. That took all of 10 minutes. What will I do today, I need a new bathing suit because one of mine had the elastic stretch out and I couldn't fix it. Other one is starting to wear. i will look for the chlorine resistant ones although I have had my bathing suits for years.
Bye for now. Mima

Mima 01-19-2007 06:52 AM

Bathing suit

Vermont Country store has a bathing suit that;s chlorine resistant. But others are also-look at the label. I am going to TJMaxx because I have a gift certificate that can only be used there!!!!! Mima

Happy Canuk 01-19-2007 10:11 AM

Hi.

Tammy - you won't have a problem with retirement. I don't think most women do. We ALWAYS have something to do! Men, without hobbies, (my hubby is going to be one of those lol) will have a hard time filling their day. Anyway, a plan is always a good idea. Volunteering is also a good idea.

Mima - I don't know much about painting. Perhaps if I tried to put the paint on with a spatula it would work better:o I guess, if people get sick, and they are NOT eating right (they are starving their bodies, if all they eat is processed foods and junk food) they are asking for trouble. It is far cheaper to eat right than buying all the crap they sell us as food. I have NEVER been a junk food eater. Don't care for chips, but I do like nuts.

Joanne - good that the puppy is coming along. It's like training a child. A whole year to make a quilt. I don't think I could remain interested enough to do that! I am NOT a crafty kind of person. I hope you get some cool weather. Here it is actually beautiful for January. It is 6F and it is nice and warm. In the years that we don't get to 30below zero temps, we have more flus and bugs. The cold is a great killer of these things.

Meme - hope your day is going well. Did you come up out of the basement yet? Glad your diet is working for you.

Well, I need to jump in the shower and get ready for work. Have a good day everybody.

Tammy 01-19-2007 10:39 PM

Mima, when I read that you got rid of all your cookies, I was thinking of cookies that you eat. Duh. I've never seen Narnia, but I'd like to. Do you think Angela and Brett would read the book about the foods? I emailed a couple of companies about the chlorine resistant suits. Lands End doesn't have them, but they said if I am not satisfied with the quality of one of theirs, they will replace it. Junonia has chlorine resistant suits, so I think I'll order one from there and see how it is.

Anne, I likes chips and nuts so I'm in trouble. Hope you had a great day at work!

I received the magazine Fibromyalgia Aware in the mail today. I've only glanced at a couple of sections so far, and I think I'll like it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

MemeToo 01-20-2007 03:06 AM

I found some 'new' cookies ... some I can actually eat and not feel guilty about. I have a whole package of them every night with a cup of green tea (if I haven't eaten too much ... sometimes I have TWO packs!) There are so many, many varieties to choose from it takes me forever to decide which ones I'll have. I bought 3 new boxes of them tonight ... only $2 a box at Wal Mart! They are made by Nabisco and only 100 calories a pack and a lot of them have NO trans fats. This week I got Lorna Doone shortbread, Chips Ahoy choc. chip and cinnamin Teddy Grahams.

Mima ... squamous cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma and basal cell carcinoma are alike in many ways, especially in the ways they remove them. Melanoma is what my FIL has & they're all a pain to have to deal with .... that's basically all I was saying.

Didn't make it to the basement today except to help hubby set up the bookcase he made for the waiting area. Boy is it ever big. I didn't think we were going to be able to get it upright. It goes all the way to the ceiling. I thought I was going to have to get rid of a lot of books ... looks like I can keep most of them now! :D Maybe I'll get some of that work done tomorrow. Although I'm going to have to spend a lot of tomorrow washing clothes. My laundry is stacked up to my knees! I've got to get that cabinet down there cleaned out so we can put it in the new office building. It is a cabinet my mom had in her trailer when she first bought it. She had new kitchen cabinets put in so we took her old bar and put it in our basement. Now, I'm going to use that as a counter in the office. Only problem, it has a sink cutout of it. I think I've solved that problem, though. I told hubby to cut white metal (he has some) to fit the counter top, take it to our sign printer and have him paint our logo on one side of it, then cover the whole thing with plexiglass. We can put calendars and pictures of the g-kids under it, or anything else we want to. The thing is 6' long on one side and 5' on the other, is L shaped and will sit along one wall and it has all kinds of storage space in the bottom. It's full of stuff right now and I have no earthly idea what I'm going to do with all that stuff!

Gotta go to bed ... took Flexeril 2 hrs ago and it's beginning to work!

Mima 01-20-2007 05:51 AM

That is creative,Meme.
Tammy, search chlorine resistant bathing suits and you will see many,
I had an attack of IBS or Diverticulosis-we went to Denny's with Mike and I ordered Tilapia-think it was fried instead of broiled but I already had pains in my stomache/Think I will just do liquids today.
Boy, Anne, it's nice not to be addicted to snack foods. The cookies that I eat are from the Health Food store =Paul newman's which are made from healthy ingredients-I buy wheat free-to die for almost.
Brad is going to a Model RR club this morning.I encourage him-we spend a lot of time together but it's much easier without a dog-don't listen Joanne. You are doing so well training him and he is so.....cute!
I love to watch Mission Organization on HGTV.
Love my place in FL-no room to junk things up. And extra storage in extra bedroom. But don't go out to the lanai-it's a mess. that's brad's place.
Bye for now Mima

Tammy 01-20-2007 07:08 PM

Meme, I've seen those cookies at the store. Maybe I'll give them a try. I take Flexeril many nights, and it sure makes a difference. I like your idea of what to do with the counter! Good thinking.

I just did a search of chlorine-res. suits, and wow! Many choices, many styles, many prices.

MemeToo 01-20-2007 11:19 PM

Well ... Joanne ... I DID IT! Went tonight TO SEE a little 'mini' toy poodle. I mean it is small. The daddy is 5 pounds and the mother 4. Baby is almost 7 weeks old and will be ready to go to a new home next Sat. I went 'to look' but I told the lady I'd be back to get her next weekend. She is 'red' ... a deep apricot. I've never seen one quite that color before. The woman said they were rare. Hubby knew the man, I've known the man's dad for years ... he's a minister. Nice people. Now I have to come up with a name ... here's three to choose from - which do you like best - cast your vote now: :p

Ariel (from The Little Mermaid -she has red hair)
Cleo (from Pinocchio - she was the goldfish)
Peaches (because she is so fuzzy!) :D

I told the g-kids to write a list of names they like. If they don't come up with something I like better, I'll probably choose one of these but I like them ALL! & hubby's no help ... he's telling me to call her "little red" for pete's sake!!! :p
