I will post my picture-thanks. Joanne, my son's dog used to chew up all my favorite shoes! One time I was getting ready for work and I only could find one of my shoes so I said-Frankie, where is my shoe? He went outside and retrieved it from under the bushes! That was one smart dog. That's the same dog that ate up the mailbox in the door so I had to put it outside-the mailman was petrified to even com e up the stairs.
Big day today-flea market and BJ's to do our shopping. My back is better today. I didn't do much yesterday-feel a bit like I am getting a cold. But the tree pollen is high.
Saw 3 recipes for leftover chili on the Rachel Ray show-they are on her website-Rachelray.com. I like her! But I can't use her recipes because of all the onions etc-but maybe I could modify them.
I made a metloaf-one side had spaghetti sauce and one side had hamburg and rice for me. Brad wants more bread in his-but it worked out.
Bye for now-hope you feel better, meme. Mima

Tammy 01-12-2007 09:31 PM

Mima, can't wait to see your picture! I am so impressed with people who have any artistic skills at all. I am a klutz at anything. Frankie was a smart dog!! how was the flea market? I don't think we'll have enough chili to freeze. When I talked to Tim earlier tonight, I mentioned that we had made chili. He groaned because he loves it. We're going over to see him on Sunday, so I think I'll take a container with us that he can heat and eat. Bet that meatloaf was tough to do!

The rain just keeps on falling. Better than ice and snow I guess.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

MemeToo 01-13-2007 01:42 AM

Naw ... not the Jerry Springer show ... his show's too violent for me. I might get hurt on there (or hurt someone)!

All that talk about chili and spaghetti has made me hungry ... again! I bought the stuff for both for next week. I went in Wal Mart to pick up a few things and wound up getting groceries for the week. Tomorrow is my friend's BD and they were coming over tonight so I went in to get her a cake I had ordered and some candles, ice cream and chips, etc. ... spent nearly $200 before I got out of there. Had to get the guys some stuff to nibble on while we were gone, too. Daughter had a Pampered Chef party tonight ... us girls went to that while the guys stayed here. They brought pizzas down so we ate and went on over there then we surprised her with cake and icecream when we got back. I ate, went to daughter's, ate, came back and ate some more. I've got to stop doing that. Been gaining when I need to be losing!

I picked up a magazine at the store today that has an article in it about an improvement on the South Beach Diet ... it's "South Beach Shake Diet". They take the principles of the South Beach Diet and mix in one low carb shake and eithr a frozen entree or meal replacement bar (your choice) for 2 of your daily meals. The main meal is still based on the 5 oz. lean meat, fish or poultry, 2 cups veggies, 1/2 cup brown rice, whole wheat pasta or 1/2 baked sweet potato. Also - 1 Tbs. sauce (such as pesto, barbecue or teriyaki) 1 tsp each olive oil and garlic, 1/2 cup tomato sauce and 1 Tbs. Parmesan or low-fat cheese. (optional) The article said women were losing up to 8 pounds in the first week on that and having a lot of energy. You are also allowed 3 daily snacks ... sugar free popsicle, high-protein cereal bar, 15 almonds or cashews, 2 cups of air-popped popcorn, 8 oz fat-free sugar free yogurt, 2 low-fat cheese sticks, 4 oz low-fat cottage cheese or 2 South Beach Diet cookies. Bon Apetite! It's in Woman's World if you want to read it.

Y'all can relax ... I didn't shoot myself in the knee ... they already hurt enough! Besides ... my deductable isn't paid now that the new year has started all over again and the hospital bill would be too high plus I don't like walking on crutches and nobody would feel sorry for me anyway! :p

Mima 01-13-2007 06:14 AM

Good morning-did some shopping at BJ's but still have to go back to Walmart for some other stuff. I know the prices so I can see if it's a good buy.
I was very disappointed to find out my credit card was not the one that gave back 5% on gas and groceries. Changed it over to a 3% with no feel. So we got gas for 2.25 at BJ's and then got 3% off that. Gas is higher down here.
Brad was walking the fastest I have ever seen him. His doc would be so proud-however he's too fast for me. I never thought I would live to see that.
Then we watched Miss Congenialiy 2-it was a bit corny. Next we are getting the Chronicles of Narnia-that should be good. Love that Blockbuster-they send out a new movie before they get yours back.
Got a bill from the library for an audio-book they said I didn't bring back-90$.
Called them and they found it on the shelf-wouldn't you think they would look there first!!! Duh!!!!But I do love that library back home.
Chris-get back here and tell us how you are.
I am all excited-Brad is going to the church this morning to work with the Handyman team. I will have the house to myself-and it;s a mess.
Bye for now-Mima

Mima 01-13-2007 06:43 AM

ps-I got a chain for my cross-other one broke-and 2 flashing lights for walking-brad got some tomatoes -yum for him-and train stuff-at the fleamarket. It's all new stuff and a huge area. Mima

Happy Canuk 01-13-2007 01:20 PM

Meme - glad you didn't shoot yourself in the knee. That would have made matters that much worse for you. For one thing, you couldn't dance:carrot: I hope everything is easing up for you.

I am trying my best to get back on track as well. Christmas sure interrupted my weight loss, although I didn't gain either. However, I have been eating too much sugar stuff. Need to cut that out. My Naturopath told me to go back on the cleansing diet and that would get me started again. Sooo, I will try it my way for a few days and see if that works, if not, back to the cleansing diet, which is just a soup (tons of minerals) fruit, veggies and 1 slice of bread a day. It is easy to live with (except for the soup because you have to have like 6 cups a day!) By day 6, I don't want to look at it again. However, it does clean out the body and give the liver a chance to recharge as well.

Mima - glad Brad is doing better. Gas here is now .89 cents a liter or about $3.55 a gallon (a liter is a little less than a quart). The store I get groceries at has its own service station and we get 7cents per liter off - in the form of a coupon to spend in the store. This works for me, as I shop there anyway.

Tammy - the saga of the CHILI continues. I know Tim will enjoy it. I still have enough for yet another meal!! Hubby never gets tired of eating Chili. I like variety, myself.

I came home from the work the other night and didn't know what to have for supper, so I threw some onion in a frying pan, with a bit of Olive Oil, added chopped cabbage, had half a sweet potato laying around, so I chopped it up, and added some chopped ham. Put salt and pepper on it, then added a cup of water and cover it and let it simmer for 1/2 an hour. Gosh it was so good. I put a little Dijon Mustard on the side of the plate to go with the ham, and it was delisious!

My new shift seems to be working ok for me. I was really busy yesterday, but Monday is going to be something else. We have over 20 drug screens to do! Thank goodness they put another person on it as well.

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend. Tammy, February is coming fast now. I can't believe it is almost the middle of January already!

We survived our blizzard the other day. What a yukky day. The wind was roaring and it got to 30 below zero, with some snow thrown in for good measure. Drifts everywhere. Well, that is winter in Alberta!

MemeToo 01-14-2007 01:48 AM

Another day of eating too much. We went to Nashville today (against my better judgment). 17 from our SS class went down to Opry Mills Mall to shop and have lunch. Ate at the Aquarium restaurant. They have the most awesome aquarium in there ... huge eel, sting rays, sharks and all kinds of fish swiming around you while you eat. Hubby and I got stuffed shrimp ... he got broiled and I got fried and then we shared. Then, we went to the Opry Hotel and walked through. It's so huge. Of course, some of us had been there so it wasn't exciting but some hadn't. We walked so much ... too much for me! On the way home, some wanted to stop for dessert. I got a hot fudge cake ... shouldn't have. Ate way too much today. I have gained 12 pounds since that wedding last August ... it's time to stop! I have decided to try that new South Beach plan ... need to do something drastic at first. Then, after a week or so on that, I'll go back to the original SB, cutting carbs or just cutting back like I was doing before. I know how easily it can creep up on you ... 12 can creep up to 42 in no time at all!!!

I'd like to get some snow ... instead of rain all the time! But ... have to rethink that ... with snow comes g-kids to keep because school will be out!!! :p Maybe I'll just pray for snow on Friday and then for it to be gone by Monday! ;)

Mima 01-14-2007 05:49 AM

Sounds like you shouldn't pray for snow, Meme. Evan is coming here so mom can sort out children's clothes for her online store that Mike is setting up. She spends an hour in traffic going to her job so this shuld be better. All that food you wrote about that I can't eat. That's the ONLY reason my weight stays off.
Brad went to work and I cleaned. they went to the house of a lady-in her 40's that had toes cut off because of blood clots. In trouble finacially but someone at the church is helping her get a handle on that. Brad is getting someone to help move her couch so she won't have to pay $100. Sure makes any problems we have disappear, even my 14 non-fatal diseases. ha!!
Bye for now, Mima

I hope it's there!!!

Tammy 01-15-2007 02:31 PM

Meme, I agree about the Jerry Springer show. I bought the Woman's World, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. I've been doing pretty good sticking to WW since I rejoined, so I'll stick with it for a while before I try something else. Always nice to have Plan B though.

Tim was very excited that we took the chili to him. Anne, your throw together meal sounds good! We're still getting rain, no snow yet. No ice either!

Mima, thanks for posting the picture!! You are a good artist. I like the picture alot.

Went for my mammogram this morning. Since I came home, I've been reading Thunder of Heaven by Ted Dekker. I have water aerobics class tonight. Hope it isn't the same instructor as last Monday. I wasn't impressed.

Tammy 01-15-2007 08:12 PM

Meme, I think we all used to do alot of things. When I think of all the nights we used to go out to dances, and now it hurts almost to think about it. I collect Emmett Kelly clowns, so I'm sure I would have liked your picture.

I did a Smart Ones dinner in the microwave, only ate 1/2 of it because it was just too spicy for me. I have lots of points left for today, so I'll be scrounging in the cupboards for a snack. I know there are fruits and vegies in the fridge and also yogurt and string cheese. There is also a bag of potato chips in the pantry. Guess which thing is calling my name????? lol

I get disgusted with myself too. Maybe I'll start drinking and chewing gum too. I think I'll drink wine!!!!

Tomorrow Bob and I meet with the treasurer and assistant treas. at school about how the rest of my pay will be done. We had a new treasurer at the beginning of the year, and she has things totally messed up. She was "released" so our old treasurer came back to try and straighten things out. He is also working in two other districts, so he is one busy guy. He found a $6,000 mistake in the first account that he was going over. It's hard to tell what all the gal has messed up. Just glad she's gone.

Does anyone know of a place to buy swimsuits that are chlorine resistant? I had bought a new suit at the beginning of the last session. It is already faded and wearing thin from the chlorine. I'm not the only one that is having problems. I told Bob I might as well spend extra money and get one that will last if I can find one.

Hope you are all staying warm and dry!

MemeToo 01-15-2007 08:41 PM

Hmmm ... interesting concept of drinking. However ... I was talking about water and tea type stuff! :p And the gum is sugarless, greentea gum or a couple of vitaballs. I guess I'm boring. (but at least sober!!!) ;)

Mima 01-16-2007 06:22 AM

Good morning-Art class is the only place where I forget about my troubles and pains.
Meme-I use acylics because oil takes a long time to dry. there is something you can mix with it now to make it dry faster.
Looks like we had that ice storm back home.
I went toUrologist and I don't have to go back for a year and he gave me a script to use IF I NEED IT!!! Skin doc today.
Angela -dil-had a scare-her thyroid level went very low. Going to doc's today. Join the club . I did read something about after pregnancy you can go really high and then drop. Hope it;s simple.
we are going to host missionaries in Feb-mostly just a home base because they keep them really busy.
Sure hope you get straightened out with your retirement money-are you taking a lump sum or are you getting a monthly check, Tammy.
Meme-if I wasn't food sensative I would have gained weight too.
Trouble is that I eat the foods I can't and then my stomache hurts-ate some seasoned chicken aT mike's and it was so good but not good for me.
Bye now-I am sweating -gotta put on the air-I am serious!!! Mima

Tammy 01-16-2007 02:36 PM

Meme, I was teasing about the wine. I'd be totally wiped on my behind if I started drinking. I have a glass of wine every now and then, and that about wipes me out. lol

Mima, the school holds back money from each of our paychecks to pay us over the summer. Since I won't be there in the summer, they were supposed to pay me that amount instead of holding it back. The treasurer didn't do that. She told me that the company who does our checks told her that it couldn't be done. I trusted her, and now I know that I shouldn't have. She just didn't want to deal with it.

After my last check for teaching (it will come in March), I'll receive 2 or 3 more checks that will be the money that they have held back for me. By doing it that way it should help with the taxes. My severance pay check will be one check, but I guess it has to be done that way. It should be about $7500. I told Bob that will pay for Tim's tuition next fall. Our old treasurer told me that I should have called him, but I said that I didn't want to get the new one upset with me. I guess I should have called, and things would be done right.

Anyway, that's the scoop on the $$$.

I'm making a pizza for supper. Just had all my WW materials out and trying to figure points for it. I haven't eaten much today in anticipation of the pizza, so I'll be fine on the points.

That's the good thing about the points, I can eat anything as long as I count them. I rarely use them for junk. I put them to good use!! Putting lots of vegies on the pizza too.

We have snow. The roads are pretty slick. I'm meeting some friends at a coffee shop at 3:15, so I need to get moving. I know I won't be driving very fast.

Happy Canuk 01-16-2007 02:59 PM

Hi.

Meme - those pounds do have a way of sneaking back on! It is very hard when you have a social life that revolves around friends, going out for meals, or coffee (never JUST coffee). I hope you find the motivation you need to get moving.

Mima - great painting. I am so glad you can just lose yourself when you are doing it. Diversion is half of pain reduction! Just being able to get your mind OFF it for awhile. Sorry you are having tummy troubles.

Tammy - As your retirement gets closer everyday, I am certain that you get more and more ecstatic about it. It will be nice to get a nice chunk of cash. It does sure cost a lot of money to get kids through school, these days. Enjoy your time with your friends.

JOANNE _ WHERE ARE YOU????

I am fighting my friend - SUGAR!!! It seems that I should NEVER have had ANY over Christmas, as now I can't seem to get back on track. Today may be a better day. Tammy, I don't drink much at all. I don't like wine, but every year, for years, during Christmas and New Years, my cousin and her hubby come over and we have Irish Coffee. I do like that, but only have one or two and then it is over until next year.

The yeast is FINALLY gone, after 8 loooooong years. I have been feeling a lot more energetic, and little or no brain fog. The whole body feels better. Now, if it would just help out my back lol FM has definitely been helped. I was telling my Naturopath I was having trouble getting back on track, and she advised me to go back on the Cleansing Diet and then get going again. I may have to do that. Right now I am trying on my own. She also said, that SUGAR is a drug, just like any other one. You just get addicted to it.

Chris also is missing. I hope she is doing ok.

Hope you are all having a good day.
