Diabetes Chat for Winter 2024
Come join us to chat about Weight Loss with Diabetes!
I feel bloated and fat but the scale is down to 172.2. Go figure! I slept better last night. But I just realized I have my nightgown on inside out!! I put it on in the dark. I just had breakfast, fried eggs, 1 SL toast and sauteed mushrooms. |
Carol Sue I take Alpha Lipoic Acid, Benfotiamine 300 and yesterday I started taking Nitric Oxide Gummies. I've always taken Alpha Lipoic Acid and started Benfotiamine because I heard a doctor on YouTube say that all elderly people should take it. Then I read about Nitric Oxide that is good for neuropathy on that article you shared about beets have it. Then I read something about it on FB. Since I could never eat enough beets, I decided to try the this instead of buying beet powder because some of the people who use it say they switched because the powder clumps sometime. I bought all these at Amazon, but DH told me that Sam's club sales the beet chewable so probably will buy them from Sam's from now own.
DH has gone to the store to get my prescription and a few things we either forgot or couldn't get at the other local store. He will get chicken for dinner. The thing I like about counting calories is that I can play around with the calories to stay within the calories I want to eat that day. So far so good. Of course, I have to hope that MFP is at least close to accurate. Weight today was up a tad of .6 lbs to 157.8 lbs. So that is good. DH is back so will go help put groceries away. Have a great day everyone. |
I have been very hungry for Mac and Cheese. I only like my home made, but its never the same twice. I put whatever cheese I have in it but mostly velveeta. Today I added American, swiss, Colby jack and Mozzarella. It alters the taste a bit.
I will go to Wal-Mart tomorrow because I am almost out of G. Monday is senior day at Goodwill and we try to go then. Its right across from Walmart. I feel a little better today. This morning my legs hurt but they feel better now. They feel stronger. I will try to get back to exercise tomorrow. I have to be consistent. But if I'm not home at noonish I dont do it. |
Tomorrow I will get back to eating healthier. I can't trust myself to eat just anything because I end up eating too much. I got my test results on my oncology portal and the BUN is too high. I looked it up and found that it can be corrected but I need to eat less protein and more fruits and veggies. Vegan is better diet but that isn't going to happen. So I will work at getting a workable plan that I can follow to get things straightened out. I will still eat foods I like but I will have to work harder at keeping more healthier foods and the goodies lower. Since I need to eat less protein and I will have to figure out how to balance the carbs and fat. Plus I need to drink more water and sports drinks.
Hope we have a good nights sleep and get ready to get back to my exercises tomorrow. |
Trish, do you remember back when I said I was having kidney issues? It started in the hospital when they gave me the dye then limited my water and I could not flush the dye out. My Bun went up and also my Creatinine and GFR. Part of it was caused by the Lasix, too. I don't know if that's why they took me off Lasix and put me on Bumex. I don't know what the difference is. I think it said online to keep protein intake around 30gm. I eat protein but I don't think I eat a lot. Vegetables are good because of the fiber. I'm sure you will figure this out. This is why I have decided to fast before all lab work not just when it says fasting. Last time I ate because they told me to always eat before cardiac rehab. Then I went for blood work afterwards.
Scale went up 1 lb today. I didn't pee much last night but I did take my fluid pill. I didn't sleep long, 6 hours or so,but Fitbit says it was good sleep. They take into consideration how long you sleep but also your heart rate, breathing and stages of sleep. And I'm sure its not perfect! Just like MFP is not perfect. I didn't have eggs today. We went to Wal-Mart for my G, and when I came home it was noon so I made broccoli,,cheese and rice, a Knorr packet. DH had Dinty Moore beef stew. I think I want to use our Gift Card for Bob Evans for dinner. Its up to him. |
Carol Sue Thanks for sharing your experience with me. That is what happened with me when I was in the hospital. I had 2 times when I took the dye and liquid was limited.
Weight was up today, but then I ate like a horse. I cooked spaghetti today and it was really good. BBL |
I really like spaghetti even though it is high carb. Now I'm supposed to avoid the red sauce because of sodium. I cooked it so much when the kids were here DH is tired of it. He is tired of the red sauce. He often eats Pastaroni for lunch but is has a white sauce similar to alfredo. I sometimes get Eggplant parm at Rodneys because they serve it with angel hair. It is a huge portion so I bring it home for lunch the next day.q. I really do need to cut back on carbs.
I was just reading an article about the importance of eating dinner earlier. Like you do, and we do. For years I ate breakfast and lunch but no dinner. I was thin and healthy. It was after the kids moved out that DH wanted me to eat dinner with him. Thats when I gained all my weight. Even when DH was in the hospital I didn't eat dinner. I lost 15+ lbs and A1c was great. I would love it if DH quit eating dinner but it is major for him. He believes in 3 meals a day, small breakfast and lunch but bigger dinner. He asks me every day what we are having for dinner. I am going to look into this further. Both my step children eat dinner late. 7:30-8 pm. Today I dropped a fluid pill in the kitchen and we had trouble finding it. I worry about Rusty finding it. When we have to give him a pill it is a struggle but we have to be very careful about things on the floor because we see him eating things from time to time. I gave up looking for the pill but DH found it. |
Weight stayed at 173. Sleep was ok. Not great. Just had eggs and toast, sauteed mushrooms. My little avocados are getting ripe so I will start eating them. I had one last night. I want to make guac.
Lots of snow in surrounding areas but none here. Our temps are getting colder. I just want to stay home today, nice and warm. When I was at Walmart I bought some La Choy Chicken Chose Mein so DH wants that for dinner. Quick and Easy. Yay! |
Hi gang: reached up to 180 over the holidays.
I only went to to the pool twice over the holidays. Odd schedules and so many kids there, which is fine, since it was rainy and muddy, precluding outdoor activities. Better they be active and having fun, and not being destructive. But school started yesterday and I went back to my regular schedule, so went yesterday and this am. I am getting back to normal eating. Getting the crap out of the house. Can do a good shop tomorrow after getting the fridge cleared out. We are having spaghetti with red sauce tonight. DH will have regular spats, I am using spaghetti squash. I have cooked both already. I put chicken in with the Classico sauce, so there will be lots of protein. I have the makings of a good salad for our early supper. I ate early yesterday and that worked well. I hope you all had good holidays. stayed healthy myself. |
Mad, did you ever try Pesto sauce with spaghetti squash? I like it so much better than red sauce. I also use it with zoodles. I buy it in a little jar. If you have Aldi's they have a good one. It's never tried map by my own pesto. Its just so easy to just buy the jar.
We had our Chicken chow mein. It was good. I buy small cans of chicken to add because the chicken in it is almost non existing. Some times I cook chicken tenderloins to put in it. I talked to a friend I haven't talked to in a while. She told me about some vitamins she and her hubby have been taking that might help with my energy. So I'm going to go back to taking my BComplex, Ocuvite, and Chromium Picolinate and might go back to my Sub lingual B12. They both take Airborne. He takes it because he drives school bus and is exposed to so much with the kids. He said all the bus drivers take it. She said he is a very healthy 80 year old. So I might try it. I have to get my energy back. I hate feeling so sluggish all the time. Our temps are going to get very cold starting next week. I'm going to have to get my warmest clothes ready. |
Sounds like we are all working at getting back to eating healthier and getting rid of the junk food. I've got my routine exercises down and I am wondering if my 1 hour exercises are making me hungrier. I have actually gotten so used to exercising that I actually look forward to doing them. I heard that could happen but never thought it would happen to me. However it has finally happened to me and hopefully eventually the hunger will settle down.
Carol Sue There was a time when DH and I moved from FL to SC that we would never eat anything after 3:30 PM. We would go to the church activities where they served food but we went to fellowship but wouldn't eat because the meetings were way past 3:30. I would love to eat that way again. Perhaps I can get back to that woe this year. Imagine, I was doing IF before I had ever heard that term which tells me that if I did it back then surely I can do it again. One of the tv churches I watch is getting ready to fast for a month in February so I might use their fast along with them to get myself back to eating again the way we did back then? Mad What was decided about your knee replacement? Have I missed something? I hope it is getting better. |
Trish, years ago when I lived alone in my apartment before I met DH I ate breakfast and lunch but no dinner. I never really liked dinner food, didnt know how to cook it and didn't want to cook it just for me. I knew if I didn't eat dinner I would lose weight. Thats when I was in the 125-130 weight range. Art tee we got married and the kids were young I would cook dinner for the kids and DH then I would sit and read the paper while they ate. I might eat some if there was anything left while I was cleaning up but that was rare. It was after the kids got married that DH wanted me to eat with him and that's when I gained all the weight, in my 30s and 40s. I developed heart disease and diabetes. Even now I would prefer not to eat dinner. When DH was in the hospital I didn't eat dinner. I used to eat his lunch in the hospital because he never wanted it so I ate it and it looked like he ate it. If they knew he wasn't eating it they would have forced him somehow. But dinner is important to him and every day he asks what we are having. He doesn't want most of the things I used to make. So we eat out a lot and we can each order what we want. I with would cook what he wants, but he won't tell me what to make. Yesterday was an exception when he saw that Chicken Chow Mein and told me he wanted it. I'm really surprised that he eats that. He likes things that can be prepared in 15 minutes. He doesn't want things that take a while to prepare. I don't know how some women get these husbands who will eat whatever is put in front of them. I grew up that Mom cooked and we ate it. No questions asked. The only thing I wouldn't eat was pan fried fish because it had bones in it. It was too hard to eat to avoid the bones. He also doesn't like casseroles. He wants his meat, potato and vegetable separate, not all mixed together. Casseroles are easier I think. He says casseroles are for women. His mother never cooked like that. In fact, I might make a casserole tonight. Chicken tenderloins with cream of chicken soup and potatoes on top. Tomorrow I will make sweet sausage in the slow cooker. Whatever day he wants to go to the casino we will go to the local one. Probably Thursday. Today the weather is going to be cold and blustery with rain and snow mixed.
I'm hoping to exercise today because I don't want to go anywhere. Exercise doesn't make me hungry, it usually curbs my apperite. I have heard that If exercise makes you hungry you are exercising too hard and burning the glucose you have on hand. I know I never exercise too hard!! I am never huffing and puffing and out of breath. I exercise at a gentle moderate pace. |
DH wants to go today in spite of the weather. So we will go. I don't want to but you know how that goes.
|
My rings are vert tight today which means I'm retaining fluid. I hope I don't end up in the hospital.
I've been reading that sugar plays a big role in fluid retention Lots of a interesting articles and videos. This explains a lot. This explains why I pee a lot when I eat low carb. http://www.liverdoctor.com/7-ways-to...k-less-bloated I can't get the other link to work but if you type in "Salt only retains fluid in the presence of sugar" you get other articles and videos by Dr Berg and others. I don't know why the link won't work. |
It ended up before a successful trip to the casino. I won $500 on one machine and $300 on another. DH didn't win, so its a good thing he took me with him! Ha ha. And we got home in 20 minutes instead of 1 hour.
My rings are still tight but I'm ok so far. Hope you are ok Trish. |
Carol Sue Thanks for the article links. I will check them out. Our DH sound the same when it comes to casseroles. Mine will eat a lot of the foods that are in the casseroles separately but not together. I've decided that I'm going to start cooking some of the foods at home that we buy takeout because I can cook them healthier. Fried chicken is one of the take out that I can cook healthier. I like fish cooked with cornbread breading but DH likes it pan fried so he cooks it himself. Since he has learned to cook this past year, I've decided that he can cook things he is good at that I don't want to cook and I will cook some of the foods I can cook healthier.
My calories are around 1300 today within 7 hr eating window. I finally got my exercises done. I accidentally took my tramadol this morning instead of saving it for bedtime which left me feeling sleepy most of the morning so I had to push myself to get all my exercise done, but I did it. I've started putting my medicine in a pill box for 4 servings. I ended up taking my bedtime pills instead of morning pills. Stupid move. I'm also trying to get organized with 2024 chores I want to do and just had too many things going at one time. Hope your trip to the casino goes well today and y'all have a safe trip home. |
Trish I could not get the one link to work. Thats very disappointing because the article are very good I think. I hope you can see them by typing it in yourself.
We did good at the casino. Cold but no snow, only light rain. I have never been able to cook fried chicken. It gets done on the outside but not on the inside. My MIL cooked it good just dusting it with flour. Everyone liked hers. I wish I could learn. |
Carol Sue Congratulations on your casino trip. I wasn't able to bring up the article either but will try to pull it up tomorrow. I'm tired and ready to go to bed. Sweet dreams. Good night.

Hi friends: I have fasted about 40 hours now. Plan to keep going for now.
Trish, I feel the same about exercise. I am really pleased to be back to routine and going to the pool for the water walking again. I really feel much better doing it. I found my knee starting hurting pretty quickly on the stationary bike, so I have not been doing that much, so getting back to the water is good. The class works this way. We walk back and forth in a pool that is about 4 and a half feet deep. We change the type of step each length, so we do we exercise different muscles. Forward, backward, side steps, high steps, heel/toe etc. we do this for 30 minutes, then we move to the swirl pool which is kept warmer at over 90 degrees F. The we work on abs and stretches for 15 minutes. Works well for me. I don't like to go under water and don't enjoy swimming. This works for a variety of people we don't all go the same speed, but we can tailor it to the needs and abilities to each person. In the pool my knee doesn't give out and no pain unless I am not paying attention and I do something I should not. I see my surgeon at the end of the month and the knee replacement will happen in the next couple of months after that, so I expect by the end of March at the latest. I know this is very different that in the US, but I won't pay anything out of pocket and no worries about insurance etc. I am really determined to get this weight back down before the surgery. Trish, I am glad you have some appetite. Keep eating healthfully and have a treat now and then. You need food energy for your exercise too. How are your sugars these days? Carol, that is fun that you did well at the casino. Was DH jealous? I am picturing him wanting to go back and do better than you next time, LOL. I will think about pesto. I have liked it in the pas, but never thought of it on spaghetti squash. I like my sauce to have a lot of protein in it, so I always add meat to my red sauce. However, I am thinking of taking meat out of my diet for a couple of weeks. Had some genetic testing done, and I have the gene for Hemochromatosis. This does not mean I have the disease, but the treatment is to eat a low iron diet and give blood. One of the symptoms is joint pain, especially in the hands, so perhaps reducing meat for a bit will reduce that symptom. It will be harmless to give that a try for a bit. I will still eat cheese, fish and plant based proteins like tofu and beyond meat. DH is on board, and I told him he is welcome to go out for a burger anytime he craves meat. The thing is, I love meat and especially red meat. But for much of what I eat, where ground meat or diced meat might be used, I can easily substitute plant based stuff. So that is my plan for the rest of the week. Have a good day friends. |
Mad, I think the pool exercising would be good for me but I don't know of any in our area. They might have it at our YMCA but they built a new one somewhere and I've never been there. It used to be local and I've been there for regular exercise classes. I also don't like to go under water, in fact, I hate to be wet. I rarely take a bath, haven't for years, and showers are quick. DH always says "I wouldn't tell people that!" Also, I dont eat much red meat except for things that have ground beef, like pasta sauce or chili. I would devour prime rib but rarely have it as DH wouldn't go near it, and occasionally have a steak. I eat other meat like chicken, pork and I love fish. Red is my least favorite and I like my red meat pretty rare. When I do eat it I have to be careful because DH can't stand the sight of rare beef. I tell him his meat is like shoe leather.
DH is glad when I win at the casino because our money goes together. So its his, too. He knows I tend to win more than he does. In fact yesterday he was playing a machine and had $100 in it. He told me to play it and left to play somewhere else. So it was his money when I won the $500. I was just the one pushing the button! When we got home I kept out $100 and put the rest in a central place where we keep money at home. There is a woman on the low carb forum whose husband has hermochromotosis. He has had it for several years. He leads a relatively normal life but goes regularly for blood letting. They are retired but active socially and do a lot of traveling. My weight is up to 177 today so a big jump up. I don't feel it. I slept very good last night. The last thing I remember was putting my Cpap on then waking up at 8 am. Lately I've been paying attention to my Fitbit when it shows my "readiness score" and today it is 99. I looked back and I've had this, before and also a few 100's. In late November I had a score of 1 three days in a row. I don't know what was going on then. It goes by your activity, your sleep and your heart rate. Its interesting if nothing else. I never get even close to 10,000 steps that are recommended. 5000 steps is a great day for me. My best friend whom I speak of gets 15000+ steps. She does a lot of intentional walking every day. There are people online who do that too. I know I am sedentary. _____________,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I went back and read my posts for the end of November to see if I could understand why I got 3 1s in a row but I could not. Nothing was a lot different. It seems that my number is higher if I've been inactive. But good sleep helps. Its nice that we post regularly here and can refer to our older posts. ___________ I put sweet sausage in the slow cooker for dinner with tomato sauce, green pepper strips and onion. I also baked some Cheddar Bay Biscuits. I bought that baking mix on impulse since I remember them from Red Lobster. We don't go there anymore. They are ok, something different. I will make whatever else DH wants. Baking those biscuits I realized I have some energy. I guess my readiness score is right. |
This is a quick one before I go to bed. I have infusion early tomorrow morning so going to bed early. I'm not used to getting up so early any more. I'll come in when I get home and read again and post then.
|
Sleep was ok. Weight down 1 lb, 176.6. Not good but it is what it is.
Saturday thru Monday is going to bring a big storm our way. Some areas might get a foot or more of snow but that will be in the mountains. Not our area. The ski resorts will be happy. Our grocery stores will be crowded today with people wanting to get food in for the weekend. I don't have muchbut I really don't feel like shopping. I will do what I have to do. I could stand to go without food for a couple days but DH would not. |
Carol Sue Today was very cold, but the worse is coming up Sunday through Wednesday will be the coldest because nights will be below freezing. We will have chili one of those days and I will probably make either a beef or chicken soup one of those days. DH said there so many people in the local store because people were shopping to get ready for the cold weather. I told him Friday is always a bad day to shop.
=fterday we ended up eating a meatless meal because we didn't have any chipped beef. DH decided to just have biscuits and gravy because we didn't have anything thawed out to go with it. Even though I did have a ham sandwich later, it wasn't enough protein and my FBG was 121 this morning, but it usually is between 99 and 106.I'm sure when I get the protein back where it should be, the reading will get back under 100 most days. Weight stays at 158.4 so things are going good. Infusion went well. My team nurse I see when I don't see the doctor surprised DH and me when she walked in with a patch over her left eye and her face drawn. I thought she had had a stroke, but she has what is called bellspalsey. Not sure how to spell it. They say it usually lasts 3 weeks, but can last up to 3 months. So we are praying for her to be over it after 3 wks. It causes dry eye and she has to use eye drops all day to keep the patch on it and sleeps with it moist with it taped shut with eye gel in the eye and a patch. I hope everybody has a good day and stay warm and safe during the bad weather. |
Trish, years ago an older woman at work had bells palsy. I don't know how to spell it either. She said it was caused by a nerve in her cheek. It didn't last long.
Tomorrow I want to make vegetable soup. I have the vegetables and I think I might have a soup bone in the freezer. If it doesn't snow early tomorrow I will go to the local store and get soup meat and a loaf of French bread. I meant to get it when I was at Wal-Mart today but I forgot. Wal-Mart wasn't too crowded but the local store will be tomorrow. A lot of people were at work today. We wanted to go to Goodwill but we forgot! We didn't want to turn around and go back. There was no discount today. I think I have everything to make chili, too. Soup and Chili are nice cold weather meals. I have never made good chicken soup. DH makes fun of it! I would like to learn to make it and put tortolini in it. This morning on Kelly and Mark Live they were talking about the harm in eating dinner late at night like my step children do. Here is an article I found online that discusses how late eating can lead to stroke and heart attack. https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/oth...ds/ar-AA1mjTjX I was discussing this with DH. We never had strokes but we both have heart disease and we never ate late at night. When I worked we usually ate by 6 pm. Now we eat earlier and I told him how you do too. |
The soup is simmering on the stove. I found 2 bones in the freezer so I have one for next time. At the store I bought a,small pkg of beef they had cut in small strips for stir fry and I cubed it and put it in the soup. I don't always put meat in. I use beef bullion cubes so I don't add salt. The bullion and canned vegetables have enough sodium. Years ago I did a test to find the best canned vegetables for soup. I bought one can each of Veg All( thats what my mother used) Delmonte, libbys, and a couple store brands including Great Value Mixed Vegatables. I opened them and dumped each one into a bowl. I was looking to see which one had the nicest variety. Some had mostly carrots And green beans and very little corn and peas. Wal-Mart's Great Value won! So that's what I always use now. One time I used frozen vegetables and DH noticed the difference and didn't like it. He said the vegetables were harder. I also add thinly sliced celery, a can of diced tomatoes and juice, a half of a peeled onion which is for flavor. I put it in whole and take it out at the end. I peel and cube a small potato and peel 2 and put them in whole. DH likes them. I add a fourth cup of barley and a cup of shredded cabbage. I would add more cabbage but DH only likes a little. It simmers a couple hours until the potatoes and cabbage are cooked and all the flavors combine. DH says the bone doesn't do anything but my mother always used a bone and I think it adds flavor and minerals, like making bone broth. I will always use it. Many stores don't sell bones but the store where I buy the good ground beef always has them. They also have "soup meat" which is a small piece of beef, often attached to a small bone. Our local store had neither. They have a small meat department with mostly the common items. They have a good bakery, small but with things D H likes. I got Italian bread to go with the soup. They also have a nice deli with a hot food case. You can get dinner in a hurry. All types of entree items and sides, different each day.
____________ We ate the soup for lunch. I didn't have breakfast today so soup was my first meal. I ate 3 bowls and 2 slices of Italian bread, half of one of the whole potatoes. I've got a nice bone here but Rusty doesn't chew on bones. Our first dogs, Blacky and Missy liked to chew soup bones but none since. Maybe its just different breeds. The scale is down to 173 today. A big drop but NV I had potty issues over night. |
Carol Sue Your soup sounds good. I might make aoup tomorrow if I have the veggies to make it. I have the other half a lb of the ground beef for the meat. DH doesn't like the chunky stew meat I like so I can chop up the ground beef and make it so that is what I will do if I have the veggies for it. If not then I will make chili. DH took out the chicken for today for me to fry it. The problem we have had lately is half the time we get home with our orders missing something or complete wrong and with prices having gone up, I figure I can cook what we want a lot chipper and the order will be correct.
I slept good and I had a lot to do but I got all of it done. The only thing I need to do now before I start cooking is my vibration platform and I will have all of this weeks exercises done for this week. I am so proud of myself. I will try to watch the link you shared this afternoon. I remember my grandmother telling about an old man who lived next door to her who ate an apple at 4 pm everyday and nothing else after then. Sometimes I wonder if people back then didn't know thingsthat were healthy that we are just learning. Have a good day everybody. |
Trish, my grandparents ate their big meal at noon. I don't know why. I really don't know what other meals they ate or what foods they ate. I never ate a meal at my grandmothers house. All I remember is big round sugar cookies. I think she made them because they were cheap and used ingredients she had on hand. I want my grandson to remember my brownies that same way. My grandparents died in their 70s but they seemed really old.
I am very proud of you how you are doing that exercise every day, faithfully. I wish I was doing it too, but I still don't feel that I have energy but its a little better than it was. But that's no excuse. I should do it and I better get my house cleaned. We eat out because we don't like bringing things home, except for Pizza. ______________ Funny but we just brought take out home! We were going to go to Rodneys but then DH decided he wanted Arbys. He usually gets beef and cheddar but I reminded him they brought fish back so we got fish sandwiches and brought them home. We ate the soup so early it didn't keep us full long enough.. |
Carol Sue My Daddy's Mother died when he was six weeks old and Mama's Daddy died when she was 13 or 14 and I don't remember any one ever talking about what they liked to eat. I remember Daddy's grandparents who raised Daddy had a farm and grew their own food and they ate pretty healhy. Daddy's Daddy's side of the family were big eaters and they loved to eat and they ate a lot of sweets where as Daddy's Mama only cooked sweets for special occasions. My Mama's Mama was a vegetarian.
My chicken was good but I remembered some things I used to do that I forgot to do this time. I'll get better at it as I go and make it healthier. I think we will have chili tomorrow because I can throw iit in the crockpot in the morning and make cornbread to go with it. Then all we will have to do is serve it when we get hungry. An easy meal day for both of us. Have a good evening. |
I never knew my fathers parents. He was 20 years older than my mother and he died when I was 11. But he had a serious disease he inherited from his mother. We ate a lot of carbs because they were cheap. A serving of meat was divided up between 5 people so no one got much. We did eat eggs because they were cheap. After my dad died and my brother joined the Marines my mother didn't have to cook as much. She tried new recipes and became an excellent cook. She didn't work so she spent all day preparing dinner. It was ready when I came home. I wish I could cook like she did.
DH doesn't like fried chicken because he only likes boneless skinless breast. I grill it , roast it or cook it in a casserole. I buy a big bag of tenderloins at Walmart. If I roast a whole chicken or buy a rotisserie chicken he pulls off a piece of breast meat and that's all he will eat. The same with turkey. He also only likes boneless pork loin chops while I prefer bone in. I cook what he likes or he won't eat it. I don't know what I'm going to make for dinner. I will either make chili or a casserole with chicken tenderloins. Either way, DH won't be happy about it but sometimes he has to eat what I like. I have a box of Jiffy Cornbread Mix that I could make with the Chile but DH wouldn't eat cornbread either. He is a very picky eater. He would rather have a McDonalds hamburger. This week I bought ground beef at Walmart instead of at the store where I usually go. That store is on the other side of town and I didn't want to go that far. I don't know if DH will even eat the Wal-Mart ground beef. He prefers the meat from the other store because they don't add anything to their meat the way some stores do. I don't know how some women get a husband who eats whatever is served to them. I didn't get that but I didn't know that when I met him. I have a friend who said her husband doesn't care what she cooks for dinner but he wants dinner on the table when he walks in the door. She worked from home so she could do that. They were friends with DH when he was married to his first wife and she said his first wife used to complain about what a picky eater he was. So I guess he was always like that. When the kids were here he ate whatever I cooked. I think he did that so they would eat it too, but they were always good eaters. After they moved out he wanted to go to restaurants every day. I don't think we are going to get more snow. A big snowstorm is happening up north from us. |
Carol Sue My 1st 2 Hubbies would eat anything at least once and if they liked it then I would know I could eat it again. This has been really trying with DH because he isn't good at trying things to at least see if he likes it or not. So I get in a habit of cooking around his likes. However, I do try to throw in something I like if I am really hungry for it.
The chili was good and we have decided to have chili dogs tomorrow to finish it off. I don't think we will get any wet stuff with the cold weather, but it is going to be really cold. I'm thankful I don't have to go anywhere this week. Have a good day. |
was 179 this morning. Had hoped to fast again today, but as I was getting ready to go to the pool, I pulled a muscle in my back.
I had to crawl down the stairs. Now I am sitting quietly with a hot pack on my back. Feet up, TV on. Had to eat to manage the extra painkillers. Sorry, can't do more for now. |
Fatmad I am so sorry about your pulled back muscle and I pray you will heal quickly.
It was 14 degrees when I got up this morning and so far it has only made the high to 24 instead of 25. We did have a dusting of snow, but nothing to speak of, but cold is cold. It made it easy to exercise. I am wondering if maybe I haven't been eating enough because I've been eating like crazy and I was shocked with a new low this morning of 155 lbs. Carol Sue I hope you are doing okay today. Hope everyone is staying warm and safe. |
I have been locked out of the forum for 2 days. It felt like losing an old friend. I am so attached to this forum and hate when I can't post. At least I could see others posts.
My weight has been 173 for 4 days in a row. I am not usually that consistent. It is very very cold here today. 18 right now and the sun is shining. If he thinks I'm going to the casino he's crazy. Im not going anywhere!! We are used to cold here but this is bad. Today is step sons birthday. He is 58. Yesterday dgs called and wanted us to pick him up from school. He got hurt in gym class and could not reach his parents. DH did not want to drive that far so he called step son who then called dgs. Finally mom went to get him and took him to Med Express. He has a sprained knee. I guess he will be ok but might always have knee problems. I will be back later. I hope I don't get locked out again. |
Carol Sue So good to see you today. I always wonder if you are okay when you don't check in. I'm so glad you are okay. I hope 3fc doesn't start having problems again. Glad to see your 173 staying. I've noticed that my weight will bounce a few days and then it will stay the same for a few days and then all of a sudden it will drop to a new low and then does the same routine as before. I read that if you eat one apple a day that your weight will stay the same and it helps with weight loss. I am finding that to be true.
DH has gone to Sam's and Walmart and then get McDs CB on the way home. I told him I want to cook a beef stew/soup and I was going to make it with ground beef, He said "you always make it with leftover beef roast". So I think he is going to get a roast that I will cook tomorrow and because he is so picky, I told him to get whatever other veggies he wants for me to add to the leftover roast and I will make the stew/soup Thursday. Friday we will have some leftovers that we can have our choice to eat with having to cook. I've never liked leftovers, but I am finding it nice to be able to cook things with enough leftovers that I can enjoy eating without having to cook full meals everyday. Being able to eat whatever we both like or will tolerate for each other. There isn't any food that we can't have except for foods we choose not to bring in the house because we know we can't handle them. I am so thrilled that he is taking control of his BS which helps me too. Example, I wanted some kind of cookie and he asked me not to get any because he has his BS in a good range. So that helps me not to fall back into eating them. I have my exercises done and I think I might add another day and do 6 days on the weeks I don't go to oncology. I want to get the veggies cut up for my CB. Fatmad I hope you are feeling better. Carol Sue I hope DH didn't try to talk you into casino and you can get back in here. I pray your DGS doesn't end up having a lifetime of knee problems. Have nice day everybody and stay safe and warm. |
Im still able to get in here.
I have chili on to simmer. DH didn't really want it but we haven t had it for ages. I didn't have kidney beans so I put pinto beans in. On Christmas step son had chili he made using deer meat and he put cannelloni beans in it. I have them, too. It seems odd to have chili on Christmas but they cook a wide variety of things. DH said he didn't want macaroni in it but I do so I will put some in mine. I crave a cookie now and then but I don't like the ones DH buys. He buys white Oreos which are vanilla instead of chocolate and sometimes he buys raisin cookies, from the bakery. I don't like them. I like plain cheap cookies like from Dollar Tree. |
DH changed the menu for today and we had Bush's Fried chicken. It was actually good. He went to get McDs but that store is having some real problems. He said he waited 15 minutes behind a guy before him and he didn't know how long others had been waiting and nothing was happening. He said the 3 vehicles that had been waiting left and once he had been waiting for 15 minutes he left.
He got 2 beautiful beef roasts at Sam's. I will cook a roast tomorrow and use the leftovers for the beef soup the next day. Carol Sue did you stay home or did DH talk you into going to the casino? I had a good day. |
The scale is up 3 lbs to 176. Yikes! DH said its the ice cream but I eat ice cream every day. I think it was the chili. It tasted so good since I haven't had it for so long and I kept going back for more until the pot was empty. I really enjoyed that meal and now I'm paying for it. I forgot to make the cornbread. I took my morning fluid pill so I'm hoping the weight is fluid and is back down tomorrow.
No casino. He wants to go today. I would go if it wasn't so cold. I'm afraid we might break down and have to get out of the car. I worry about things like that. He already mentioned it and I already said no. But we will see. I'm reading a good book that I could read at the casino. Its a diet memoir about a girl who is losing weight on Medifast. Medifast is a plan where they send you food and shakes similar to Slimfast. I don't know if its a true story or not. I need something to inspire me. |
Awhile back I was reading about the benefits of apple poly phenol around in the skin. I started buying gala apples and eating one every day. I can't remember which benefit I was after. That lasted a month or so then I stopped. I think I will start again.
I remember when DHs nephews wife lost a lot of weight eating breakfast and a sandwich at 3 pm. I told step daughter about it and she asked "What does she eat for dinner?". I kept explaining it but she was fixated on dinner. She is like her father. Dinner is king! But they eat dinner at 8pm. That is entirely too late. She always tells me her husband only eats one meal a day but he told me he can get a really big breakfast in the cafeteria at work,so step daughter must not know about that. For a smaller guy he is a very big eater. She cooks big meals every night, but they eat so late and go to bed with full stomachs. I don't know if they could ever change that. When I worked I used to plan and start dinner the night before and either she or DH would put things in the oven when they got home. By the time I got home dinner was a almost done. They would never wait for me to come home and start dinner. I would leave things in the fridge covered with plastic wrap. She would sometimes put it in the oven with the plastic still on. I had to start using foil. ha ha. Or leave a note on it to take the plastic off. So,anyway I'm going to buy apples when I go to Wal-Mart and start eating them again. I think I have strip steaks in the freezer to defrost and cook for dinner because I don't want to go out. OR I should go out today because bigger snows are due the rest of the week. We will be in trouble if I don't have something to eat. Come to think of it,if we get snow I definitely won't go to the casino!! By the way, I was searching online to see if I could find anything about Medifast, just curious, and I found there is a weight loss clinic at my hospital. It is mostly focused on Weight Loss Surgery but they also have other medically supervised plans. I knew they dis WLS but didn't know about other plans. One time when I was in the hospital my roommate had had weight loss surgery. In fact, there were 2 of them. The first one got it done because her husband had it done successfully. The second one didn't tell anyone she was getting it done and had to call her brother to come get her to take her home. She didn't look big enough to need it. I remember a woman at work wanted it done and had to gain 20 lbs to qualify! I thought that was ridiculous! But that's how badly she wanted it! __________________ Well,he insists that we go to the casino but its local so only a half hour drive so ill go, begrudgingly, but he owes me!!! I should have known because he mopped the kitchen this morning. He always, does the floors when he wants to go. Thats not my pay back. I'll think of something! |
Carol Sue I gained weight too and am back up to 159.4, but I'm sure it is my fault because I forgot to take my fluid pill yesterday and by the time I realized that I had not taken one it was too late to take it or I would have been up all night running to bathroom. So I took one this morning and will take another one later. In fact, I don't know how I messed up taking all my pills yesterday. I took all of them expect for a few I can't take with other supplements.
Roast, potatoes and carrots are cooking and will be ready whenever DH wants to eat. I need to do my vibration platform and I will be through with exercises today. BBL |
Not a goal day at the casino. I wish he would get tired of it. I finished the book I was reading and liked it but I won't be doing Medifast! Not my kind of diet. But I got some pointers from it all. She was eating 900 calories and 80 GM of carb. until she reached goal then increased calories for maintenance. The main pointer from it was stay OP 100%. to reach goal.
Its really too late to take my second fluid pill but if I dont I won't lose. I don't know what to do. |
