Carol Sue Thank God you are home.
|
I normally weigh first thing in the morning in my nightgown. The day before I went to the hospital I weighed 179. When I got home at 4:30 pm I got weighed in street clothes after having eaten breakfast and lunch I weighed 178. So tomorrow I might show a loss. That would be nice.
|
Carol Sue You will surely show a weight loss tomorrow. I only weight at the oncologist clinic and I have on shoes and heavy clothes.
I finally got accepted by the Anti-Inflammatory group on FB. Looks like I'm going on a low carb/gluten free and dairy free diet at least until I get my immune system straightened out. Someone on that group recommended a Dr. Livingood and Dr. Berg. Dr. Livingood's books are expensive even on kindle so I'm watching him on YouTube. I watched one on swelling and learned a lot. I'm going to go back to drinking lemon water which is good for swelling. Also he said not to cut out salt but to be sure to eat sea salt or real salt but not table salt that has medals in it. He says to be sure and eat potassium foods such as greens, beets, avocados. While I think my chemo treatments contributed some to the neuropathy symptoms, I think the way they fed me in the hospital made it worse. Now I have to work at reversing it as much as I possibly can. I read of a couple of people who reversed theirs. One lady couldn't even walk and was in a wheelchair when she learned how to correct this and now she not only can walk freely but goes to the gym every other day. Fatmad I would appreciate any suggestions or advice you might share with me about going GF that you have learned through your GF journey. TIA |
It felt so good to sleep in my own bed. DH is exhausted from running to the hospital twice a day and the long walk from the parking lot. I hope he will reat. He was happy to get to sleep in this morning.
I was peeing all night and weighed 175 this morning. Now I'm starting the new water pill so we will see how that goes. Trish,I have to limit my salt to prevent fluid retention at least until I get my valve replaced. I do NOT want to go thru that congestion again. My blood sugar is still at 200. I cannot take Metformin until I get the blood work on Aug 10. I have so many changes and new information. Its confusing and I don't want to screw up. I have to redo my pill box. I will bag up the meds they removed. I might go back on some later but some I will never take again. Trish, I hope you can improve your neurapathy. And I hope the swelling continues to go down. I wish I could get correct information on how much fluid I'm supposed to have. So far I've only had it with my meds.
|
Carol Sue The 175 is great. I wish I could weigh but not stable enough to get on a scale right now and DH has put it away. So I don't know actual weight.
All this is confusing about how much water to drink. DH and I listened to Dr. Livingood on YouTube last night before I went to bed. DH found one just on edema in legs. He says one thing that helps it is moving around and another thing is taking more potassium than you do salt and to be sure to use sea salt or pink salt but not table salt. He also mentioned having lemon or lime in water to drink. So I'm going back to that today. The doctor had me on prescription potassiium when I came home. This guy talks about foods like avocados and sweet potatoes have potassium in them. He seems to prefer getting your vitamins etc in foods if you can. I am going to try using the recumbent bike later today when DH gets up. I think I'm going to work on doing a healthy low carb with fruits and veggies instead of going GF right now. I also want to work at eating within 8 hr eating window which Dr. Livingood likes. |
Trish, your situation is different from mine so our salt and fluid needs will be different. I have 1 med that raises potassium but another that lowers it. My doctor checks it and all electrolytes every 6 months and they are always good.
I just talked to the nurse from my PCPs office about my blood sugar that won't come down. She is going to call me back and tell me what he says about it. It will be hard since he's off for the weekend. I just hope it will come down by bedtime. For dinner I will eat chicken with no seasoning and no carbs. Exercise is supposed to bring it down but sometimes it goes up first before it comes down. |
HI everyone: getting through our little heat wave, the temps are not horrible, the but humidity is very high, making it hard to cool off. The air conditioner has not been re-installed after the construction because there is still some stuff to do. Thank goodness for fans.
Trish and Carol Sue, both of you make me feel very grateful for my relative good health. Carol: I will be interested to hear about the meds and what is changing. We were sure you should not have been gaining weight, and you were not, just retaining water. You will feel much better now, I am sure. As the prednisone leaves your body and your hormones get back to normal, your BS will improve. Trish: I hope you feel much better with the chemo done and you slowly get your energy back. It's been a long haul, but worth it. Stay cool and well friends. Have a good weekend. |
The PCP said I can take an extra G to help with my blood sugar. Thats what I normally do. I have a follow up appointment with him on Aug 3. I still have to make appoints with the heart doctor and the kidney doctor.
My blood sugar is now below 200 but it has done this before but bumps back up.. I hope it continues down. DH hasn't mentioned the casino but I'm sure its on his mind. Trish, I wanted to mention to you about videos on YouTube for seated exercise. You might search "seated exercises for legs" and find something you could do instead of or in addition to your recumbent bike. Sit and Be Fit is general whole body exercise. I tracked my food today and only came up with 638 calories. I'm really hungry but I can't think of anything without carbs. I had a big chicken thigh for dinner and I have more for tomorrow. Once I get blood sugar down I think I can keep it down. I think the temperatures are going to go down soon. It is so hot and humid. But I know its not as hot as Texas. |
Fatmad I'm glad you are healthy and hope you will continue to be. Hope your fans keep y'all cool. August 4th will be my last chemo and I hope I can start recovering once it is over. I told DH yesterday that I've struggled through to much to come out of this disabled so I have a lot of work to do once the treatment is over.
Carol Sue Glad you can take the G. I understand about not being hungry. I had to push the calories today to get to 1000. I went over on my carbs which wasn't good. Diffficult to do low carb when DH is cooking so I've got to figure out to stand in the kitchen so I can cook for me. Thanks for the suggestion about sitting exercises for my legs. I will look that up. I never got to doing the recumbent bike today. Although hands hurt and feet feel swollen, I actually think they feel a little better. |
This morning I weighed 172.2. It was so funny because I got on my digital scale with the app. It would not record my weight. It questioned if it was correct because the last time I weighed on this scale it was 179. I am very happy to get this loss but I'm very worried about gaining it back. I have to contact the doctor if I gain 3 lbs in 24 hours because that means I am retaining fluid again.
Trish, I am very hungry! Starving! But I'm trying not to eat much or any carbs until I get my blood sugar down. It was 187 this morning. I do not have much food in the house that is low carb and also low sodium. I have to figure out what to buy. The problem is DH and I like different foods. And restaurant food is high sodium in most cases. Also don't nag him about how he eats but I don't want him involved in my eating either. Right now I'm drinking hot tea and then I will cook some eggs. I took my water pill so I will start peeing for the next few hours. Mad, I agree you are very healthy compared to Trish and I right now. I know you have gluten issues but you can control that with diet. Trish is lucky she has no heart issues. Heart issues seem to pop up all the time. I am used to it and surprised to have lived this long with it. One day at a time. When I was in the hospital they didn't mention my big belly but they kept pressing on it and asking if it hurt. It does not hurt. In my chart it is noted that it is soft. Its still protruding but is a bit smaller. I wonder if it will continue to get smaller as the fluid comes off and I continue losing weight. That would be a plus. Time to make breakfast. |
Carol Sue Congratulations on the 172.2 lbs. I know you are trying to get your blood sugar down but be sure to eat enough.
My FBG was 113 this morning. My calories are staying around 1000 to 1200 a day bur sometime I have to work just to get them up to a 1000. Some days my carbs are higher than others. DH cooks so it is easier to eat what he cooks. Although I found if I tell him something is good for BS he will cook it since he needs to keep his BS down too. |
I'm finished eating for today. 793 calories. 37 carbs. My blood sugar is around 250 right now but it keeps bumping up over 300. Since I am not drinking much I always feel hungry. I'm realizing that my previous fluid intake was keeping me from feeling hungry. Now I'm always starving. When my blood sugar comes down I should get it straightened out. If it doesn't come down I don't know what I will do. They must have given me a really large dose of prednisone.
We went to Rodneys and I had baked scrod and green beans. DH had a meatball stromboli. I could not eat that. |
HI everyone: still at 169, but I'm still below 170 so I will take it. Yesterday was a weird food day and I had a huge lunch of fish and chips and coleslaw, and split a dessert of cheesecake with DH. So supper was supposed to be salad, but I only had a popsicle. Never got hungry enough to eat anything else.
Younger DD is here as today is DH birthday. Older DD will host us for a BBQ and I will bring the cake, as I have a GF chocolate cake in the freezer. I was planning to make my nut cake, but it was too hot to bake lately. DH and YDD will leave for the cottage tomorrow and I go up Tuesday night. I really want to get back to the fitness levels I was enjoying on board ship. But I have to say, with virtually no other responsibilities, it's not hard to keep fit and active. I had no laundry to do, cleaning to do, food to shop for or prepare..... In other news, because of the weight loss on board, I have decided to give up my diet soda habit. I rarely had more than one a day, but DH often did. He is not overweight. So we decided to have small amounts of juice in our water if needed. I only had water most of the time on board, except when I had tea, or wine. I really don't need the juice as long as the water is cold. Carol: I am not surprised you are losing as the fluid comes off, but I want to encourage you to eat more. You are hungry and should eat at least 1000 calories a day. Remember that your blood sugar is being driven more by the prednisone than your food intake. Yes, eat healthy and eat healthy carbs but don't get so worried about them. Your metabolic rate will slow too much to lose weight if you don't eat enough. Get on the treadmill or the stationary bike a couple of times a day for short periods. As you know, in the long run, exercise is the other way to reduce blood sugar. This will all get better, and rely on the G to help you through the next while. Trish: I will be very happy for you when the chemo is done. When you feel up to walking around the house more things will improve, both physically and mentally, I am sure. Laundry day again. have a good day friends. |
Today I'm weighing in at 171, so I guess I'm done losing. I'm ok with that for now. I want to stay at this weight for a while because from experience I know if I lose fast I quickly regain.
My blood sugar was 144 this morning so I can take it from here. My blood pressure was good even before I took the beta blocker or fluid pill. In the hospital it went down to 97/42 so that's why they stopped the other meds. I slept for 8 hours so overall today is a good day. I think things are going to turn around. Mad, enjoy the Birthday Celebration and time with your daughters. ________________________ Today I had fried eggs and a piece of SL toast for breakfast. For lunch I had 2 roasted chicken thighs. At this point I don't feel hungry. I don't know what I will eat later. |
Fatmad Thanks for the encouragement. I'm .sure you are right. I know I need to be more patient. Chemo is so hard on the immune system and once I'm off the chemo things should be able to improve better. Supposedly the fluid is supposed to come off eventually too. I look forward to my next appointment with my surgeon because being a women she has answers regular oncologist misses being a man. Of course, I have to say I love them both.
Enjoy your time with your daughters celebrating your DH birthday and time at cottage. Carol Sue I like for weight to stablize along the way down too. Looks like your blood sugar is coming down too. Mine did better when I came home from the hospital too. I am going to go back to eating pretty much like I was before chemo etc. I've decided I like SL MG bread so it is worth the money. I will keep my fruit and veggies. I do want to add avocados to my woe to eat with my eggs and alsp add a few other foods that I can enjoy. I have not decided about the milk yet. I may go back to almond milk or switch to coconut milk. I need to go sometime this week while feeling pretty good and renew my driver's license. Probably do that Tuesday or Wednesday. Not sure what we are having today. I've got my plan started on MFP but DH said lasagne or pot pie. So not very low carb today. Have a nice day everyone. |
