Carol Sue I'm glad you were able to have your eggs your way. Hope the rest of your day goes well.
I am getting closer to having surgery now. 10 days. DS asked niece about the apron the surgeon said she was going to remove. DN said evidently she is removig it so my stomach will be flat. I always wanted a flat stomach, but this isn't the way I wanted to do it. I'm learning that maybe we should be careful what we pray for. Not sure when step-son and family will be here. I am sure they will come by for an hr or 2 later today. I will try to enjoy seeing them. I don't do my face any more and have not hair to fix so I wear a turban. I don't think I told you about our neighbeor coming by to check on us the weekend. Come to find out his wife had breast cancer 3 yrs ago. He told DH she lost her hair and it has grown back but it is short. He told DH that he would take care of our lawn. He and ehis son mowed it Saturday and had it done in no time. Amazing to me as to how many people have had cancer. Have a nice day. |
Trish, I hope you are able to enjoy your visit with family. It will be good to see them.
I tried to find information about removing the apron when you have a hysterectomy but I couldnt find it. But it did say that people have a problem with that after surgery. So they might be doing that so you won't have problems. Doing that might extend your recovery but it will be beneficial in the long run. Its hard to believe this is coming up so fast. I haven't used my Cpap for a couple months but I think using it again might help my sleep. I took a nap in bed today and used the Cpap and I think it helped. It bothers DH and that's why I stopped using it but his TV bothers me so we are even. ;) I want to go to bed early. |
Scale is up a bit today. I'm trying to just be happy its not going up a lot. Yesterday I watched My 600 Lb Life. A 700 lb young man started Dr Now's program. After following the diet and exercise he lost 100+ lbs. He decided to forgo the surgery and just continue on his own. Dr Now told him his weight loss will stop without the surgery even if he continued the diet. He was right. Weight loss stopped in spite of staying on the diet. I guess that is because when you reduce your intake your body slows metabolism. With the surgery you are forced to eat less. I guess the only way to continue losing is to reduce intake below the recommended number. It can be done with fasting or EOD fasting. Why is it ok to eat low calorie with surgery?
I slept with my CPap last night and slept a little better. I guess that's what I should do. I feel better today. Trish, I hope your family visit went well. That is very nice that your neighbor agreed to cut your grass. My neighbor across the street cuts the grass for 2 other neighbors. One is a single woman who cooks food to give him. The other is the family who had the little boy with leukemia. . |
Carol Sue Sorry weight is up a little. I find that interesting what Dr. Now says. I guess that is why WW starts you out eating a number of pts and lowers how many pts you can eat daily at certain points. I'm glad the Cpap helps you sleep better.
My 2 drs appointments went well. My primary doctor approved my having surgery. Onchologist is sending me to hospital in the morning to have the fluid in my gut drained off. I don't like having it done, but he wants me to spend the rest of this week and up to surgery next week eating protein to get my body built up so the surgery will go well and I will heal better afterwards. I am all registered for everything and now will just work towards being nourished. My primary told me that I weigh 22 lbs more than I did when I had lost all that weight and that it is all fluid. I think that means that I actually weight about 182 just figuring from what I weighed this morning at onchology. We haven't seen step-son and family. We are supposed to see them sometime later today. I'm surprised they haven't called yet. |
Trish, I looked back to January when you came home from the hospital and you weighed 185 that morning. At that time you had been gaining and didn't know why. It was probably because you were starting to retain fluid. Who knows how much you will weigh after surgery and they remove the apron.
One thing I know about weight loss is that when you weigh less your body requires fewer calories, so after you lose weight you are punished by not needing as much food. Also, I have read, that if you diet and get down to 140 lbs your body requires fewer calories than a person who weighed 140 all along. And if you eat fewer than 1200 calories you are not getting all the nutrients you need. I think this is why its so hard to lose. Here's another question. I have read that a person can go for days and weeks without eating as long as they drink water. Their body lives off their body fat, which is extra calories they consumed and stored in the fat cells. If that's true, how are they getting nutrients during that fasting period? I would like to understand more about this but don't know where to look. Weight loss is not as easy as eat less move more. |

I'm a posting this, article that I found online in case anyone is interested. It explains that when your body stores excess food as fat, it also stores the nutrients from the food. So when you fast and burn body fat you are also getting the nutrients. This makes sense, but I don't know if this guy is reliable. He also says that you don't have to worry about nutrients if you do short term intermittent fasting. Here is another article I read about fasting. There's a lot of info available about fasting. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition...g#1.-Fed-state ___________________________________ This morning I washed my summer capris. I went thru them to pull some out to donate to Goodwill but I'm not really able to part with much. I don't know why, but I can get rid of something that I like, even though I seem to wear the same things over and over. I have to go through my dresser drawers too because I don't have room for anything more. I have told myself I can't buy anything else until I donate more. I have a few things that are still too small but I will keep them so I will have something to wear when I lose more weight. And I will lose weight! I will be happy to get rid of the jeans that are now too big but will keep 1 pair just in case. |
We had a good visit with step-son and his family. His son decided not to fly in today but come some other time. They kept their distance from me and cleaned their cell phone before handing it to me to see pictures. They came to get DH today and they have gone out to eat. They should be back in about an hour. They plan to go to San Antonio tomorrow so DH and I will have a day to ourselves hopefully to rest up as we had a busy day and a half.
We went to the hospital to have the fluid drained off of my gut. They got 6000 cc fluid off of me. Hopefully I can eat enough protein and veggies to build myself up. Carol Sue Thanks for the articles. I will check it out later when I have time to read them. Have a nice day. |
Trish, I'm glad they drained the fluid. I hope it helps you feel better and helps the surgery go smoothly.
That was nice that you enjoyed your visit with step son and family and that they took DH out for dinner. I don't know what's going on with me but I'm not liking eggs very much anymore. I'm definitely not liking scrambled. Over easy is ok but I only like it with toast. I am going to cut back to 1 with 1 toast and see if my craving for them comes back. I never thought this would happen. I'm also losing my taste for beef again but I was never a big beef eater. So far I still like chicken. |
Nothing new today. We went to Bob Evans. I should have ordered oatmeal. I ordered an omlet and it was just ok. I hate to spend money on food and not like it. Then we went to a Wal-Mart for a few things. I hate that I have to get brown sugar in a bag. The box stands up so nice in the cupboard but the bag doesn't. I don't have a lot of room. And the box is 1 lb, the bag is 2 lb. I'm just complaining today.
Then we went to Goodwill. I had to buy more hangers and they sell used ones cheap. |
Carol Sue Sorry you are having problems eating eggs and some other foods. I hope it gets better.
I slept good last night and seem to be sleeping a lot today but I think that is because of 2 days in a row that I had to get up early. My gut has been sore since yesterdays procedure so maybe my sleeping is just a healing thing. I was able to drink a protein drink this morning and we are having tilapia today for lunch.I also am able to walk more with the walker. Just hope I can continue to improve. Have a nice day. |
HI friends: home overnight. Buddy hurt his leg up at camp and we came home while bringing DD back. He saw his own vet this way, and it turns out its his shoulder. So he needs lots of rest.
He was already better today, but he was in too much pain yesterday to move much, and today was a travel day, so when he saw the vet at 530 pm he had had about 48 hours of rest. So shortened walks for now, and we go back to camp tomorrow. Carol: I have some of the lighter drinks, like perrier or just soda water, or Bubbly for carbonation. I do like my fizzy drinks. Dr. Fung even recommends to give a feeling of fullness. It helps me to avoid overeating, since I do not feel satisfied unless I overeat. Fizzy drinks are Not so great for DH with his reflux. His scope is set for end of June, just before I leave for Iceland, so we hope to have some answers from that. Trish: I will be thinking of you and hope things go well with surgery, and that you build up your strength in the meantime. Very tired tonight, off to bed soon. |
I'm back down to 179 this morning. I went thru this before, bouncing in and out of the 200s for months, before I left it behind. Then the same thing with 190s. I don't even remember the upper 180s. I think I quickly dropped to the lower 180s and then got stuck. I vow to continue down. I've lost 38 lbs but it doesn't seem real because it has been so slow. No one has noticed. Absolutely no one. I think slow losing has been why I have not regained. I have to look at it this way or I get discouraged.
Mad, I used to eat until I was stuffed and uncomfortable. I would try so hard to eat to satiety but I could not control it. Somehow I've stopped that. I still do it occasionally and its terrible. I still overeat by eating too often and not waiting til I'm hungry. That is my new thing to work on. I'm learning that my food tastes better if I wait til I'm hungry. I still go for days without feeling any hunger. My weight loss is not about following the right diet plan. I do eat primarily reduced carb because of my blood sugar which is also improving. But I eat what I want, nothing is excluded, just limited. It is what is working for me after years of nothing working. Do I want to wake up tomorrow with this. belly fat gone? Of course I do! I just can't do what is required to make it work that way. As my cardiologist once told me, " I can. I just don't want to.". I have reflux too but it has improved since I started my fasting around 4 pm and reduced fat intake. I had a scope which indicated a hiatal hernia. The doctor prescribed Kapidex which insurance denied. It is now off the market. I took Nexium until I started on Plavix and they don't mix. Step son knows someone who had surgery on his hiatal hernia but now he can't vomit or burp. I just live with it. I take PepcId AC most nights. Trish, I hope you are feeling good, eating and getting stronger. Just a few more days until surgery. |
My grandson joined the high school golf club. They are having a fund raiser selling hot dogs and soft drinks at the mall on Memorial Day so we are going there to see him, donate, and have a hot dog. That's around lunch time. Then at dinner time step daughter is having a cook out, hamburgers and hot dogs. So 2 hot dogs on Monday. They eat macaroni salad so I will make some potato salad for us. Not a lot. I wanted to make something to take but won't have time since we will be at the mall. Maybe I can make something quick when we come home from the mall.
Yesterday I found a can of pumpkin in the pantry so I made pumpkin pie, but I screwed it up. 1). I had the oven on the wrong temp so the crust burned 2). I forgot to lower the rack in the oven so the bottom crust is soggy. He's eating it and says its good but I am dissatisfied. I'm losing my knack for baking but I was always better at baking than cooking. |
Fatmad I hope Buddy heals nicely.
Carol Sue I'm sure you will be in 170s soon and weight loss will be happening again. Today has been quiet as was yesterday. Step-son and family had plans today that didn't include us. Not sure if we will see them tomorrow either. Eating has been good and I am drinking a protein shake each day to build up my system. I have been getting up and walking more each day too. It is so hard to believe I am now just days from having my surgery. |
I was looking back at my weight for the past year. When I was at the doctor in December I was in the 170s but that was right after I was sick and not eating much, just soup. A year ago when I went in June I was 187. So I'm confident that I am lowering my set point. My next appointment is June 15. I will work toward being in the 170s again. June A1c was 6.8. Dec was 6.7. I hope to be lower but the doctor is happy under 7.
Today I HAVE TO purge some clothes! It is getting completely out of hand! I had to buy more hangers because I ran out. I even have underwear that are getting too big. I don't think you can donate them. If Goodwill doesn't sell clothes they send them overseas. Nothing gets thrown out. I wish I knew of a place that gives clothes to the needy, or someone who needs them. They are in good condition. If things are worn out DH uses them for rags in the garage. ______________________ I gathered up 15 pairs of jeans to go to Goodwill! I went thru all my jeans and decided which ones I want and put them back in my drawer. What's left are some that are too big and some that just don't fit great, are not really flattering to my body. They keep getting put back in the drawer and I wear the ones I like best. So why keep them? I have some that are too snug but I'm keeping them for when I lose weight. And I WILL lose weight! Now to go through the clothes that are on hangers in the laundry room. I am one who never wants to part with clothes, even when I have nicer ones that I wear over and over. I watched an episode of Hoarders Buried Alive where a woman couldn't stop buying clothes. That made me realize its time to bite the bullet. A week or so ago I put a bag of shoes in one of the collection bins in the shopping center. |
