Trish, I agree with being thankful every day. But we love turkey and I would be cooking one even if no one was coming. And DH wants pumpkin pie. That's more important to him than the turkey! LOL When we used to go to MIL's for Thanksgiving I always cooked a turkey before we went because we like leftovers, and she never had leftovers. DH only likes my pumpkin pie because I only put half of the spices in it. If he eats it will the full amount of spices he gets heart burn. No one else knows that I do that but they all like my pie. I am making 6 pies on Wednesday. I will bake half of them in disposable pie pans so everyone gets a pie and a carton of Cool Whip to take home. I also like chicken, so chicken would be fine with me, too. It's about being thankful, so any food you like is fine.
DH is watching the Steeler game and we will probably go out to eat after the game. I don't know where. I have coupons for Bob Evans so maybe we will go there. Today, I cleaned off my computer desk. I found some things I forgot I had! LOL I would like to do a 20 hour fast once in a while. I would have to do it one of the days that DH does not cook breakfast. I would like to fast until 4 when we eat dinner, then maybe have vegetables in the evening. Or I would have the vegetables for lunch and finish up the eating with my dinner. I am finding that I don't have to have eggs every morning. I am reading another book about Fasting, and it says that women should take a break every 6-8 weeks and have 1-2 weeks of no fasting then go back to it. I think the concern for women is hormones, but I don't know if that matters if you are beyond your child bearing years. Pipsicle, I think we were posting at the same time. I'm glad you had a nice vacation to Disney, and hope you enjoy your time with your family even though it can be stressful. You can pick your friends, but you can't pick your relatives. I don't understand why your blood sugar and A1c are up while fasting. That has always lowered my blood sugar considerably. I did most of my fasting in the evening because I never wanted to skip breakfast, so I went to bed with an empty stomach and a lowish blood sugar. |
HI everyone: I am fasting today. Yesterday was the Grey Cup game, the Super Bowl of Canadian Football, so we had wings, and I had a cider and some chips, so way off plan. I forgot that. I baked the wings, as DH was asking for them, and that was a good way to cook them yet not worry about gluten, which would have been an issue with take out wings. The one place that has a dedicated fryer, we did not care for their wings. I did have a whole head of celery as well.
Pipsicle, you have not been doing IF long enough for it to affect your A1C, it takes about 2-3 months to see a difference. If you just recently had it done, its reflecting the last few months. I know you have wanted to avoid meds, are you not taking anything yet? Personally, I would encourage you to go on metformin, if you HCP has recommended it before, or it you want it. . It will protect the small blood vessels most affected by high blood sugar, (in the eyes, kidneys and feet) that lead to the worst and ugliest complications of diabetes. I am on it in spite of never getting to diabetic levels, only prediabetic levels. I credit it with keeping me at pre-diabetes until I finally worked through my way of weight loss and succeeded. I am still on it. There are a few people who really can't take it, and it does take time to adjust to it. There is data that it helps other things, (like preventing dementia). You may not feel old enough to worry about these things, but if you HCP will prescribe it, it may be helpful. It has also been shown to help people to lose weight, as has Wellbutrin like Trish is taking. I have a day of work today. Its not really busy, and more loaded in the afternoon, so I plan a walk this morning before I leave. Also it may rain later, so moving before I go will be helpful. Hope everyone has a good week leading up to your holiday. Carol: does it really take 4 days to thaw your turkey? wow. I look forward to our Christmas turkey. We cook it for a community supper so don't have issues with leftovers. I also found that with the rice stuffing I made last year, it was easier for making broth from the carcass. I never used a "bag" for the stuffing before, but will consider that this year as well. Have a good Monday everyone |
I think Pipsicle is trying to avoid a diagnosis of Diabetes on her health records, in which case maybe she should take Berberine, which is OTC, but does the same thing as Metformin.

Carol Sue I guess I would be cooking a turkey if we were having family over, but we didn't plan anything with anyone and a turkey is just too much for the 2 of us. This year DS and her DH are out of town with her DD and her DH and I figured Babysitter and her DH would spend the day with her kids and they all live out of town. We were invited to DS daughter's for Turkey day, but someone needs to be here in case Daddy needs us and I'm the one. So that is DH and me. I did hear from my nephew who has gone and got Daddy every Thanksgiving since Daddy's been in the home and he is going to get Daddy again this year too. Not sure where he is taking him but I'm glad he is getting him. Otherwise we had planned to out to see him so he wouldn't be alone on Thanksgiving. I am having Christmas dinner with my sister's and their husbands here this year and I may see if my nephew wants to go get Daddy and bring him because he is the only one who can get him in and out of the car. Of course if I do that I may have to make it a deal for everyone and just celebrate the fact that we have Daddy one more year. We will have to see.
My FBG was 141 this morning, but I'm sure that is because I forgot I hadn't checked it before I took my sublingual B12. LOL Weight was back down to 209.8 this morning. What a surprise after all I ate yesterday. I ate like I would never get another thing to eat. I don't know what was wrong but I was hungry all day and blew my fast even my 16 hr fast for today. However, I am back on schedule today. I have decided that I do better with brunch around 11ish and stop eating by 7. So I think I will just stick with that routine unless the Wellbutrin changes that. I will just take it one day at a time. The only good thing about my eating is that I didn't go off on junk food eating mainly because I don't have any except for the baked chips I bought to have with the once a week McD CB because a serving is 70 calories less than 1/2 order of medium fries. I started back on the 6 Lipotropic pills that I was taking before the shots hoping I can keep the weight off that I have lost and maybe lose some more. I will take them for the 2 weeks that I don't get a shot. I'll get one shot and start back on them the week after take them the rest of the year till I can get shots again in January. Fatmad I often wish I could take Metformin again, but have never been able to when I try. Hopefully the Berberine is doing all the same things as they say it does. Pepsicle You just have to keep doing what you know to do and trust the plan. That is what I tell myself all the time because I too am one who doesn't lose quickly. I try to remember that at least the scale is going in the right direction. Have a nice day everybody. |
We went to Texas Roadhouse today but I didn't eat very much. I think I'm catching a cold. I took Alka Seltzer Plus and maybe I'll dose off watching tv.
|
Carol Sue I hope you don't have a cold especially with all the cooking you plan to do. Praying for you.
I ended up doing a 10 hr eating window which will give me a 14 hr fast from now until brunch tomorrow, but my calories were 1260. I'm happy with my day. |
fasted since Sunday night. I am hoping to fast most or all of today as well. I will have to keep busy with it though.
I think I will book that DexaScan I was considering before, because of the liver issues. My doc wants to repeat my liver enzymes in 3 months. Since the ultrasounds don't evaluate improvement in fatty liver, this scan may be a better way to measure that. So today's goals are to go for a walk, book that scan, and stay fasted. I think I also need to do better with how I eat the days I eat. I hope you feel better Carol as you prepare your family feast. Have a good day friends |
I do feel much better! A little sniffly. I think I felt bad because of being so cold. .We were running around in the cold weather and I didn't get my winter coat out yet. I dozed in my recliner and felt better by bedtime. I slept well without Tylenol but did take the tart cherry. Not feeling well helped me not eat, so I'm 15 hours into my fast so far. I'm counting from dinner yesterday not counting from when I took the Alka Seltzer. I don't want to be sick over Thanksgiving. My blood sugar was 94 at bedtime, 92 at 3AM and 96 at 9AM. Nice and steady. Coffee will raise it now.
Good job on the fasts, Mad, and you too Trish with the nice weight drop. |
Carol Sue Glad you are feeling better and hope you begin to improve.
Fatmad You are so good at your long fasts. Hope the test shows improvement. Didn't weigh this morning. I'm going to try to change that. FBG was 120. I'm going to try to stop weighing everyday. I'm not sure it doesn't mess me up to weigh everyday. Weight fluctuates and when it goes up one day I get discouraged. So I'm going to try weighing once a week instead and see how I do. The Bariatrics people called me and gave me the name of the man who provides their App that I haven't been able to get on. I got that straightened out it is working now. Now I just have to figure out how to work it. I spent the morning looking at their recipes and was surprised that the diet really is low carb. Not quite keto but not far from it although their sample menus don't show it. I will love making some of their recipes. I got word yesterday that my copy of Dr. Fung's Obesity Code Cookbook will be here today. I'm looking forward to see what he says to eat. Turns out DH and I will have having a family Thanksgiving dinner with family this year after all, but it will be on Friday. The nice thing is that Daddy will get to be there too. Baby sister called this morning and said they are having at her son's house on Friday afternoon. That is the nephew who lives about 7 miles from me and her oldest son is the nephew who always gets Daddy and takes him out for Thanksgiving, so he will get him Friday for the family gathering. That will be very nice. I will make my deviled eggs and my famous Candied Sweet potatoes they all love. I will use the sweet marshmallows but substitute stevia for the sugar. Hopefully they will never know since most of us use it any way. This means I had to call my beautician and see if she could work me back in on Friday since I had cancelled. We are going to go by the doctor's office and get DH samples he gets from them and then go to Walmart to get his meds and pick up a few more things I need to get. Plus I need to get some more yams and maybe even another bag of marshmallows. We usually have a big crowd because baby sister has lots of kids and grandkids... lots of big boys and they all eat. Hope everybody has a good day. |
Trish, I am glad to hear you got on the website for the Bariatric Center. After all, it is part of the money you paid when you signed up. I hope it helps you. I would imagine the diet would be low carb, or at least reduced carb. We all know that carbs are a big culprit with our weight.
I'm also glad you will be having a celebration with your family, and that your Dad will be included. That should make him happy. I am pretty much all ready for Thanksgiving. I will finish up some light cleaning today, dusting the living room. I am happy that I got most all cleaning done and DH helped. He cleaned the carpets and washed the windows. Those things are hard for me. Tomorrow I will clean the kitchen while the pies are baking. It will get messy again on Thanksgiving with the cooking, but at least it won't be dirty. My Fitbit says I slept for 12 hours and 54 minutes last night. Almost 13 hours! But it started at 6:20 after I took the Alka Seltzer Plus and dozed in my chair. I actually had some deep sleep during that time. I was awake around 10PM when I went to bed, but then back to sleep. I guess I needed all that sleep. Maybe tomorrow I will have DH run up to Dollar General and get some more Alka Seltzer. We only have 2 more and I don't want to run out in case I need it again. |
Good morning. Time to start the pumpkin pies!
|
Good morning. Not much happening here today. I pulled a muscle in my back on right side and I'm doctoring it and praying the pain will go away. Trying not to irritate it any more.
Hope everybody has a great day. I know many are doing some cooking today like Carol Sue with her pumpkin pies. |
Trish, I hope you feel better. I don't know which is better, ice or heat.
Pies are done. One is almost gone already. That's why I make so many, so DH can taste test. They turned out good. I chopped the veggies for the stuffing. I got out my roasters and pots I will need so I will be ready in the morning. Its funny, but DH started to put the pots away until I told him why they were sitting out. lOL Once the turkeys are stuffed and in the oven I will get a bit of a break for a few hours. We are having high winds. Some people have lost electricity. I feel bad for them to lose it on Thanksgiving. My stove is gas so I can cook my turkeys at least it we should lose ours. I will probably go to bed early tonight. |
Thanks Carol Sue. It was better during the day but seems to be trying to come back tonight. I've some medicine that I put on it that makes it feel hot and cold at the same time. I plan to put the heating pad on it tonight and see if it helps.
You do like I do when I cook for company. I like to organize what I'm going to do so I can get everything done on time. Baby sister text me last night and asked me to bring rolls instead of the yams. So I will have to go by the store Friday when I leave the beauty shop to get them. I hope they still make the ones we used to love from there. Funny, since I don't eat rolls any more, I never even look at them when I'm in the store. So I'll make deviled eggs and take the rolls. I heard from my nephew today and he is going to get Daddy and bring him too. He has been saying he wished he could see all his grandkids so now he will be able to. Some other good news is that DS got a call from the nursing home and the have gotten the approval from Daddy's insurance to have 3 days a week of therapy. I haven't talked to him yet but I hope I can get him tomorrow and tell him. She is out of town and they can't start until she gets back and signs the papers for it next week. I ended up with a 16 hr fast today. I've actually done pretty good with fasting except for that one night that I seemed to have been so hungry. I'm hoping I will better and better at doing it until it is just automatic. I hope you get a good nights sleep. |
I broke my fast yesterday for a late supper. I did not manage to stay low carb. Today was better, did LCHF today. Slept very poorly last night, so took a bit of benedryl at 630 and slept from about 7 to noon. So I am not sure when I will go to sleep tonight. But I am yawning a bit now. Both DH and I feel a cold coming on. I am taking extra vitamin C and some echinacea. Also doing the hot tub cold afterward thing to stimulate the immune system.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my US friends here. Enjoy your Turkey Day |
