Carol Sue I laid in bed this morning praying and I told the Lord, "I'm so confused as to what to do and what not to do. I need your help". I got up and dressed and came in to kitchen and realized that I wanted cereal this morning. I ate exactly what I wanted, but I took out my measuring cups and measure out the serving size according to the box. I added the half banana that I always eat each day and 1/2 c of skim milk. I've been making my coffee and then blending the Slimquick in it around 9ish. I am drinking the other cup with it now. It has loads of probiotics.
Then I set down and looked in the book we both got from Reader's Digest Magic Foods for better blood sugar. You know I have learned that I really like oranges, especially the little Halo mandarin oranges. Did you know that oranges help lower cholesterol? I was reading about some of the other foods that it recommends of veggies... even certain grains. I plan to use that book and make up my own food plan and just count calories. Some of those grains not only are good for us, they also make us feel full. I just have to watch serving sizes and calories.
I also like the idea of keeping my calories a little lower than some say. I think as long as I keep my calories between 1000 and 1400 calories I'm not going to worry about how it affects my metabolism. I like knowing if I eat more calories once in a while it won't hurt, but I want to keep them lower most of the time and I still like the eating within IF's 8 to 10 hrs.
I too am tired of losing a few lbs only to gain most of them back. I would love a steady loss that keeps going down.
Taking Daddy to Sam's to shop this afternoon and then go back and do his pills for the week. We are taking him to Denny's which is next door to Sam's. I like eating there because they put their calories on the menu.
We can do this. Working to keep the calories today under 1500 cals.

Trish, I too have had God answer my prayers about eating food I should not be eating, and have done much better since then.
Today I ordered just the soup and salad bar when we went out to eat. I ate 1 cup of soup and one plate of salad and I just couldn't eat another bite! I sure didn't get my money's worth, but it filled me up.
And tonight DH made popcorn. I ate a few kernels, but I remember how terrible I felt after eating popcorn the last time and I don't want to go through that again. I got a lot of cramping. Just too much fiber, I guess.
today was finally on plan. I have been off plan and over eating for several days, and finally got hold of myself today.
This staying on plan is really hard to do on a long term daily basis.
I have also slept well several nights in a row, but don't feel totally energized the way you would think that would make me feel.
I made some cheesecake today, just had one piece, but with stevia, its high fat and low carb, so can have some and stay on plan.
I has been raining a lot and there is flooding down stream from us. I am trying to be grateful not to be terribly affected by the flooding, but the rain, and the cold are getting to me a bit. Its really cold with the wet, so not like a nice rain to walk through.
Its my weekend off, we have friend coming tomorrow night, so lots to do to get ready for that.
fatmad I hear you on staying OP. Glad you had a good day back OP. Sorry about all the rain, but glad you aren't flooding.
Carol Sue I like a good salad and soup. We have Soup r Salad restaurant here, but DH doesn't like it and while DS and I could probably go and stay OP, DD would probably end up eating things too salty for him so I haven't suggested it for a place for us to go.
I've had 2 good OP days. Today was WI day and I guess I didn't do too bad this week even eating out or fast food as I'm down 3.6 lbs this week. That encourages me to keep doing what I am doing.
I got my Splenda cookbook out today and I have all the ingredients to bake some cookies today. I'm using their recipe for chocolate chip, but DH picked up some butterfinger chips at the store instead of chocolate and I will add some walnuts to them. I've read how good walnuts are for us and I don't like them by themselves so will eat them in the cookies. These will be better for us than the sugar ones and no transfats or sugar alcohols. I hope they taste good.
I ended up with 4 days of exercise last week. I know it would be better doing more, but I figure I will have to add more as time goes on so just taking it slow to get back into the swing of things. Also being active otherwise cleaning and shopping etc helps too with the exercise and Lord knows I got a lot to do around here. I realized today that we still are not settled into the house and we need to get back to emptying some more boxes so we can get settled in better.
weight down a bit today after the gains of being off plan. Didn't stay on plan yesterday, will have to really work it for a bit and stay on plan. If not JUDDD at least sticking to atkins.
DH is joining me in having smoothies to start the day. I can often make do with just two meals a day, so i have the smoothie mid morning and supper about 6 and then done for the day.
Last night we had friends in, my last weekend off that I will be home, after this will be at the cottage when I am off call. I over did it, drinking alcohol and eating tortilla chips and dip. However, the scale lied to me this morning and weight was down from previous.
Not sure how that happened, or if I will see it up tomorrow even if I stay on plan today, so will have to see how it goes.
Trish, you do eat away from home a lot, and that does make it harder to stay on plan. Maybe a salad and an appetizer, or splitting a sandwich with someone makes more sense.
Overall, I would say I am better at eating smaller portions, but can still over eat when food is there to be eaten.
Hello to all, we have sun finally, and I am going outside to work in my garden a bit.
fatmad I remember WW used to tell us that it takes about a week on a diet for our body to adjust. That is why they said to give a diet 2 weeks before you expect to see results. I suspect the small loss even though you had the chips and dip was your reward for staying OP for as long as you have. If I could only learn that one off plan meal or snack is no big deal as long as I stay OP after that off meal/snack, I would see much better results.
I suspect that may be what makes JUDDD work so well.
It is true we eat out a lot or eat fast food more than I would like, but that is why I love to be able to eat at restaurants who post their nutrition info either on their menu or on line. I can usually figure out how many calories I am going to eat before I get there. Most of the time I already know and have clocked on MFP the calories before I go out to eat. Example, I've learned I can eat a Whataburger taquito without the potato and have less calories. When I eat a hamburger at Whataburger, I can eat 3/4 of the burger and half an order of onion rings and keep the calories down. We are meeting my DS and her DH and DD this afternoon at Luby's cafeteria. I will go their website and look up their menu for today with the nutrition and I'll plan what I am going to order before I get there and it will already be posted on MFP. Today is my DD so I have to be careful.
DH and I always get one order from Long John's Silvers and half it. However, there are still some places that do not share their nutrition and that is more difficult. Those are places that you can only eat half and I've learned either to bring the other half home or just leave it.
I've been eating cereal fiber for breakfast with half banana and yogurt or 0% skim milk. I didn't get the Slimquick again when I ran out of it. I can get good stuff in the yogurt. I just don't want the calories. The strange thing is that I am better satisfied than I was before. I think it is because I'm eating what I like. As long as it works I'm going with it.
Did well today in spite of some challenges. Managed to go out with a friend and was mindfully on plan. We walked 15 minutes to the cafe, I had only tea and not food, and walked back, and had a quality visit in the meantime. Got some other stuff done. I met DD to trade cars and she was eating, had some sweet potato fries left. I was munching on them, realized I was hungry, ordered an on plan omelet and veggies (no toast or home fries) ate most of it. But stopped because I started to feel full. (NOTE: this NEVER seems to happen to me during meals, I usually stop eating for a bit and notice feeling "full" or satisfied 30-45 minutes later) . So then I decided to listen to my body and stopped eating. DD took the extra veggies home with her.
Went to work and came home and ate to plan again. No snacking tonight. Off to bed soon.
A successful day. One day at a time. Back on plan.
Hoping I can keep this up.

Good morning everyone! Sounds like all are doing well. Good for you Mad, on getting the "full" message and stopping! I have noticed that a few times now, and I think it is from stomach shrinkage. Just my guess. You are eating less overall, and your stomach notices the difference. You don't need that extra food.
I am still hovering around 200. I'm not counting anything, but trying to be mindful of what I'm eating, and how much. I have always had a problem with eating beyond satiety, and have to work at that.
DH and I have been eating at home more recently to save money. For me, it's much better if we eat out. We can each order something different. If I cook at home, I have to make something DH will eat, and then plan my own meal around whatever I cooked. There's usually leftovers, which DH won't eat, so I tend to go back for a second helping rather than throw the food away. I wish we could afford to eat out every night, actually. The restaurants we go to serve small meals, like Bob Evans, where I get salmon with broccoli and carrots. We rarely go to fast food, because DH likes to sit down and be served.
Trish, bringing home half your meal is a great idea as long as it will be eaten for another meal. I used to take my doggie bag food for lunch when I worked, but now that I'm retired, I eat a late breakfast and seldom have lunch. If there are restaurant leftovers, I will eat them because there are there, and that's just extra food that I wouldn't normally be eating. KWIM? For me, it's not the plan I'm following that doesn't work, it's my eating habits. I really have to work on being more mindful and only eat when I'm hungry.
I am true to ticker once again. See though, this is may 9, and I wrote two weeks ago I wanted to be under 170 for may 1, so I was truly off track. But since I'm on this losing streak, I will continue with low carb and hope to keep going down.
Carol Sue, I often cook "meat and potatoes" type meals with veggies for my DH, and just skip the potatoes, (or other starch). For spaghetti, he gets pasta, I have spaghetti squash, and he doesn't complain about the extra meat in the sauce. (I brown meat and add a jarred sauce) . He eats salad along side things, so I can fill up on salad with a nice dressing, either blue cheese or olive oil and vinegar.
He isn't terribly fussy, but a bit dull in his tastes. I think you need to shut your ears to your DH if he complains you are not eating exactly like him. Just remind him its not a criticism, this is your health and well being, you have diabetes, and that takes so extra measures.
Its hard to get used to taking the time and extra dishes of cooking just a few potatoes, or rice for one etc. But its worth it in the end.
Best wishes, and hello to Trish, p.a. and all our friends here. Hoping to have another good day. One day at a time, everyone, and no judgements, just hugs.
I went to register for my colonoscopy on May 22. I have put it off as long as I can. I promised DH and DS I would have it done this year. I think I'm glad I waited until I moved here. DH and DS can't believe that I don't have to drink the horrible stuff they did. My doctor uses Gatoraide, Miralax and Dulcolax. I will just be glad when it is over. I got a message from my new doctor today in answer to me asking if I should take the Trulicity the Thursday before the procedure and he said for me to skip it until after. I still get the Dawn 130s to 140s occasionally, but in the afternoon when I'm cooking lunch, I get hypoglycemic in 90s. I was just afraid it would go to low while on clear liquids etc.
I've decided that I will make a decision between now and then as to whether I am going to keep eating the way I do or switch back to low carb. My stomach will be empty and clean and after clear liquid fasting for a few days will be a good time to start over. I do have a problem staying low carb all the time, but I still like the benefits. I'm thinking about going back on South Beach or similar because it recommends low fat and I can keep my low fat dairy and keep the nuts. I'm just not sure I can do Atkins any more although I wish I could. I can even add the beans/lentils back after 2 weeks. I can do it if I will just set my mind to it. However, I'm going to try to lean that way between now and then.
Today we are going to Cracker Barrel for lunch. We have to go get our meds and I need to pick up the stuff that I have to take and use for the colposcopy. One nice thing about Cracker Barrel is that I can do a form of low carb. DH is taking me to a steakhouse Thursday for Mother's Day when we go to do DD medicine. Even when we eat out at fast food places, most of the time, I can get low carb food. If I'm faithful to it most of the time, one meal off won't be a big deal. I haven't ruled out doing low carb the ADA way either. Although they allow up to 45 carbs a meal, I see that those carbs could come from dairy and veggies. They don't have to be from bread and starches. Until I have the procedure, I will stick with JUDDD/IF.
I think I need to change my ticker. I'm hovering around 217. Not sure I will get it back to ticker until I get more organized with my plan.

Mad, I cook potatoes and rice for DH and just don't eat it or only eat a small portion. I eat the pasta when I make it, because it's only occasionally, less than once a month. But I like baked or grilled fish which he won't eat, or chicken which he tolerates occasionally. He prefers beef or pork, which I can do without. So at home, sometimes I eat the beef/pork, and sometimes I cook it for him, and grill some fish for me. DH doesn't care if I'm eating something different from what he's eating, as long as I'm eating something. He just doesn't want me to not eat if he's eating. I really don't know why. I got used to his ways over the years and don't think about the why. It's been 36 years, today!
Good luck with your colonoscopy, Trish. I had to do that before my last surgery. The stuff I had to drink wasn't that bad, it was the effect it had that was terrible...and I was wearing a colostomy bag! It was interesting to say the least. At least my butt didn't hurt from all the pooping! LOL
I am going to try something new. I like fish, and now that its nicer out and I can grill it outside, it won't stink up the house. Instead of breading, I read a low carb cookbook saying to make "bread" crumbs from pork rinds. Gonna try that for breading and seasoning the fish. That with a salad will be quite nice. Thats for tomorrow, today is leftovers again.
But yummy ones. I made a low carb béchamel sauce with egg, and took fresh asparagus (just coming out here now) and wrapped a few stalks with thinly sliced ham. pour the sauce on and bake. Very nice, but rich dinner.

Mad, my sense of smell is out of whack, so I can't smell the fishy smell in the house! LOL I cook mine on a grill pan 5 min on each side depending on thickness, with just a spray of olive oil spray and salt and pepper. Occasionally a sprinkle of paprika. Sometimes I will place a lid over it to make sure the inside is cooked. Mostly I make salmon or talapia. I know of all the warnings about Talapia, but I love it so much. I finished up what I had on hand and didn't buy it this time. I bought some cod. I really don't know how to cook the cod, so I'm going to google for suggestion. I don't do any breading or coating, no sauces, etc. I just want something quick and easy. The only time I eat any breaded or battered fish is if we are eating out.
Recently they had grilled trout at the casino. It was so delicious! After two weeks they didn't have it anymore, so maybe it wasn't popular. So many people just don't like fish, especially trout. DH has been a fisherman all his life and doesn't like it. If I could buy that in the store and grill it I would be so happy! I have heard of a lot of people who use crushed pork rinds in place of breading.
I like to grill asparagus on my grill pan. Get it tender with lots of black grill marks. Once again, just olive oil spray and salt and pepper.

I just came very close to making a big mistake with my meds. I am going to have to be much more careful. My pill box has each day of the week and 4 slots for each day. AM, Noon, Evening, and Bedtime. I have a pill that I take for blood pressure twice a day, and another that I take once a day, at bedtime. I accidentally put the bedtime pill in the twice a day slots. They look very similar, once white oblong and the other white oval. I will have to remind myself to READ THE LABEL of each med before I put it in the pillbox. I am still shaking from the thought of what that could have caused! I am so glad I caught that!
Carol Sue Thank God you saw the medicine mistake before you took it. God does take care of us.
I ate grilled rainbow trout at Cracker Barrel the other day. DH and I usually get deep fried catfish which we both love, but I decided to see how the grilled would taste. It was very good and it didn't have the fishy smell. I like fish, but I can't stand it when it tastes/smells fishy. I will be getting it again. They also have a new side salad of mixed greens. I was able to get a salad and baby carrots to do with it no bread. We will be eating there more when we eat in that side of town so I will be eating it whether I decide to go low carb or not. They have calories on their menu now and it was easy to decide to eat the grilled instead of the fried. It saved me 140 calories if I remember right. That is why I like eating at Denny's because I can choose my meal by calorie count.
This has been a busy week. I thought I was going to sleep in this morning, but DS called last night and said DD had looked online and he had an appointment at 9:45 this morning at his primary docs office. She picked him up and I met them there. Turned out it was just for lab work. Worked out fine though because I decided to go ahead and do his meds and we straightened up his apartment. House cleaners come tomorrow, but we don't like for it to be really dirty when they come. LOL DS is thinking about having them come in 2x a week and paying for it herself. I think that is really sweet of her because we just don't have the energy to do it all the time and do our homes too. We both need to be getting things done at home.
This is going to be a very high calorie day as I was too tired to cook. DH had planned to take me out for Mother's Day steak, but since I did the pills for DD already we aren't going out. So I ran by and got fast food. We will munch off of it all day. I will add a salad and veggies. We are supposed to get some thunderstorms this afternoon so I'm glad we don't have to be out in it.
fatmad They told me at the gastro center not to take my vitamins for one week before the colonoscopy. I'm supposed to stop some meds 5 days before. Do you know why I have to stop taking all of them. I don't take anything that causes thinning of the blood so it didn't make a lot of sense to me, but I will follow the instructions.
I go to beauty shop tomorrow morning and I'm sure DD will want to go somewhere since he likes to leave when the house keepers come. I hope when I get home tomorrow that I'm home until Monday afternoon. We have to take DD for his CHF appointment Monday afternoon.
Have a great day everyone and in case I don't get back here before the weekend. Y'all have a great Mother's Day weekend.
