I was on Effexor twice in my life and hated it both times. Lexapro has done wonders for my anxiety and depression. My DH is on Cymbalta. It's helped his depression, but he still has problems with anxiety. Just remember, everyone is different, so what might work for you might not work for someone else.

I couldn't handle the emotional highs from Effexor, but that might be because I'm bipolar. But I did lose weight on it -- because I had trouble sleeping and eating.

Hope it works for you.

thanx.. i'm on zoloft now, but I think it might be pooping out. I went off of it, then went back on and it doesn't seem to be doing anything.

My PCM has me on Wellibutrin and Cymbalta. I am not sure what either of them do for me. My OB/GYN put me on Effexor for post partum depression and that was four years ago. I have put on weight like crazy since then. I am falling apart now, and have decided that I am going to die because I am too heavy. But, thanks to websites like this one, I know that I am not alone and that you can do it. I just don't know where to start and what to do. I know this is off topic but felt I needed to say it. Thanks.

my zoloft isn't working. I'm very tired on it, and not very motivated. I lazed around all weekend and I had tons of things to do, would have been nice to get on the treadmill also... I was on wellbutrin alone and it gave me horrible anxiety, I thought I was having a stroke. maybe the combo of both? grrrr more to come...

Default Cymbalta

I am currently on Cymbalta. I can't tell that it helps that much. I was on Paxil for about 6 yrs. then on Zoloft for about 6 years, now Cymbalta. I stay hungry from my nerves. I feel like a bottomless pit. I wish I could be on an anti-depressant that took away this urge! That would be the ultimate anti-depressant med!

Tink? how many mg's of wellbutrin are you on? My doc wants to add this to mix, first 100mg then 150, I'm having mixed emotions as I have alot of anxiety and I don't want this to add to it.

Hi Proud, I know what you mean by a bottomless pit, I feel the same. I eat because I feel anxiety, some don't eat at all!

I have been on effexor since February, I find that it works fairly well, still trying to find the right dose though. It help me get my energy back so far and also lose about 11 pounds. I think part of that is due to getting out of my depression and trying to eat healthy and having more energy to do things with my daughter and around the house. The downside so far has been my increase in smoking? I don't know if it had anything to do with the meds though. I do have alot of trouble sleeping, my doctor told me this is one of the better ones to help put you to sleep at night.

If you already suffer from anxiety, DO NOT go on Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin should never be prescribed to anyone who has anxiety problems!

wow your siren you stats are soooo awesome!!! Tell me how you lost sooo much weight?
My doctor told me I couldn't use wellbutrin alone.. but with zoloft it would add the energizing effects while the zoloft would help with the anxiety.
I'm not going that route, I think I'm going to try effexor, it has been out for while...and many people are on it.. with success...

Ooooh...I hated Effexor too. The only med that I've ever been on that has affected me, sexually. Could not, for the life of me, have an "o". I hated it!! But, meds work differently for everyone. I've been on Lexapro, Trileptal and Seroquel for about two years now and I've never felt this good.

Well, my dears, I had been wanting to lose weight for years. I just never got the motivation to do it and stick with it. I thought that I had SOOO much weight to lose that it would be damn near impossible, so why try?
But then I met my now husband. He loved me the way I was. He made me feel beautiful. He made me confident. I think that's what finally made me do it. I knew I had someone to support me through the journey. That and I was sick and tired of being out of breath ALL the time, the constant sweating, the health problems it was causing, and how utterly unattractive I felt. I was disgusted to even look at myself in the mirror.
So, I started by doing a lot of reading on healthy eating, weight loss, exercise. I did research on the internet, I found this web site, I found Fit Day. So, I just cut all the bad stuff out of my diet. No junk food, no ice cream, no fast food, no fried food, only good stuff. I only ate when I was hungry and trained myself to stop when I was full....not overly stuffed, bloated and feeling sick!! I started exercising every day. I went out and bought some workout DVD's, some hand weights and did what I could every day (at first, it wasn't much!! Imagine all 300 lbs. of me trying to do Tae Bo!!) When it got warm out, I walked then I tried jogging and walking. And the weight literally just melted off.
I didn't starve myself over over-exercise. I was just as surprised as everyone else always is when I tell them I lost 126 pounds (six pounds came back!) in 9 months!! I guess it was just hard work and perserverance.
Unfortunately, I got caught in a rut of eating too many processed foods the past couple of months and my eating habits have gotten a little naughty. Too much going out to eat on the weekends and having bacon-cheeseburgers and french fries!! Needless to say, I gained 6 pounds. But, I'm nipping it in the bud before it turns into more!!

My experience with effexor:
-Sex drive through the roof, too h*rny to work, sleep, do anything else.
No boyfriend, so you can imagine my frustration.
-Weight gain: I only craved carbs. I'd go days without protein. Meat literally made me want to throw up.
-I was severely 'high'. Going out at all hours of the night, hanging out with people I shouldn't have...

Luckily I got myself off before getting hurt. Withdrawal symptoms were AWFUL:
-brain zaps
-vertigo
-dizziness
-nausea
Lasted a month.

But Effexor did pull me out of my suicidal phase, so I guess it saved my life.
