Good morning everyone. I hope you guys don't mind a new comer to your thread.

My name is Amanda and I've got bipolar disorder. I was finally diagnosed in October of last year and they've just now got me on some meds that are keeping me stable.

Since I'm stable (and for other reasons as well), I've decided that this is the perfect time for me to start on my journey to lose the 100 pounds I've gained since my wedding 2 years ago.

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Good Morning,

Wowee, you chicks are doing great. Day one gone...woosh. I did pretty good yesterday w/my goals. How about you all?

Okay lets focus on today...... But first get to that mirror and smile.. look at how beautiful you are

Today, my goal is to eat wisely and get some more exercise.... Lunch will be lots of veggies / salad. Dinner is one piece of lasagna, no bigger than a cup and some veggies.

How about you?

good morning gang!

I got up at 5:00 am AGAIN and did 3 MILES this morning

I got Leslie Sansone's 5 Mile dvd in the mail yesterday. I love it! It has 2 fast miles in it - one is a 10 minute mile and the other is a 12 minute mile, then there are 3 other 1 mile segments that are done with hand weights in 1, or the walk belt in another or the stetchy band in another. Of course, you could use hand weights in all of those segments and just do the moves with hand weights.

But the dvd is set where you have lots of options on how you want to do your workout, I mean besides doing the whole 5 miles. This morning I picked the 2 fast 1 mile segments followed by the 1 mile hand weight segment. So I got 3 miles done in 38 minutes. woooohooooo

You can also set the dvd to listen to it with Leslie instructing with the music in the background, or you can set it for the music only and you cannot hear what she is saying. Some people like to do it that way - but I actually like Leslie's chattyness and encouragment at 5 am in the morning

Liz - hope the "grouchies" went away! hugs!

Nicole - nice to meet ya!

Leenie - some lasagna for supper sounds yummy! I'm not sure yet exactly what I'm eating today bec I have another dang appt at the dentist and don't know if I'll be able to chew much more than yogurt today. But I'll journal it when I figure out what I can eat.

Sweetpea - you mentioned exercising 5 days this week. What do you like to do for exercise?

Hey - don't ya'll want to join me on the daily food log and do the "if you bite it you must write" thing with me.

ok gang - lots to do at work today - hope everyone has a blessed day

hugs,
cathy

Hi Liz,

Just thought you'd like to know you aren't alone. I'm a grouch today. The phone and people are irritating the living daylights out of me - and for no reason. Will deep breathing help?

amanda. what a cute pix of your cat. what sort of cat is that?

yday i vowed to be sugar free. ahem i found some sugary stuff in my cupboards and plowed into it. 4 WW desserts later however i did go for a walk. cathy you asked about exercising - my fave is to go dancing but mainly i do walking as dancing is a bit beyond me right now. at the mo my goals are to stabilise my mood and improve my self care. both are big challenges for me

today i am going to try again to be sugar free. i am drinking some apple cider vinegar with honey and that will be the only sugar. it is supposed to be ultra healthy - we'll see if it helps detox me. it doesn't taste that great so i am sipping it.

Marie i have lots of grouchy days. most of the time! its part of my anxiety. when i remember to do it deep breathing with closed eyes does help a little.

cathy well done on doing the tape. i have leslie's tapes too but i don't use them because:
1. i haven;t got the dvd player set up at the mo
2. i feel mean going for a walk in my lounge when i could get outside and take the dogs!

having said that walking with the dogs is very stop-start. the puppy is appalling on a lead. we are doing obedience but it is slow. she is better on a halti but still hard work. the older dog is a breeze to walk so at least that's something

My cycles are all out of whack . since I started taking effexor I find I nap for 2 hours in the middle of the day so I completely miss lunch but then later in the day I have 2 meals in the time of 1 which is not good. tonight i was more restrained but now it's 10:45pm and i am hungry. i really hope to get over this "hump"

has anyone else had this trouble with efexor? it's only been 2.5 weeks but the tiredness is showing no signs of slowing. on the plus i was getting nightmares on celexa and they are gone. i just pray one day i find a solution that works for me, keeps me stable and doesn't have too many side effects

oh my gosh - it was so hard to get up this morning when that alarm went off at 5 but i finally rolled myself out of bed and did 2 miles

April - I'm so glad that you are feeling better?

Liz - did the grouchies go away? I sure hope so girlie! hope it's a great day!

Sweetpea - I'm really no help with the Effexor stuff. I've been offered antidepressants many times thru the years by several docs, but I knew my problems were from low thyroid and plugged along until I found a doc to treat my symptoms. My son has taken a couple of anti depressants and I really couldn't share anything positive about them. I think that everything he has dealt with was also from his thyroid problem and I've posted a little of that info in the "Depression Articles" thread.

Where is all of our gang today? and what is everybody up to?

Hope it's a good one!

hugs,
Cathy

WTG, Cathy!!! You're really getting back into the walking. Now I don't have to do it for you. I bet that you feel the results much for that way.

I looked at my chart yesterday and can't remember what I'm up to for February but since 1/12/06 I'm up to 50 miles. Pretty darn cool. Now if I could just get my eating under control, I'd being doing twice as good.

April, I know what you mean abount energy. Up until today (I'm starting to get another cold and I think that's why I was grouchy yesterday), I have been energetic and doing lots of stuff. I love the golite.

Leenie, way to go on the exercise. I brought lunch today and it's lasagna. I just love pasta. I bet that's why I failed Atkins - that and I hate meat. Hmm, that diet was a poor choice for me.

Amanda, welcome. I too am bipolar and when I was first diagnosed and a bit after that, I was on meds and pretty stable. Last August I went cold turkey on the meds and have been using exercise and light therapy to keep me stable. It's been working and the meds had stopped. So, just remember that it's a day by day struggle and to always pay attention to how you're doing.

Sweetpea, I was on Effexor and I liked it better than all the other AD I tired. My problem with it was that I was tired (that didn't stop) and I could not lose weight no matter how little I ate. So I stopped, lost some weight then started eating and hence the weight lose stopped. Know that there are other drugs and if the Effexor isn't working, keep trying until you find the right one.

Liz, hope the grouchies stay away today.

Well, back to work. TTYL.

Hi everyone. I hope you are having a great week so far! I am doing pretty good surprisingly. I switched ADD meds and am still finding no relief. Grrrr, this whole waiting game with meds is for the birds, I tell ya! I am not known for my patience that's for sure. Guess I have no choice.

Marie- great job on the mileage there! Do you have a monthly goal? I think I might do that. The food thing will come soon, I just know it!

Cathy, you rock lady! Getting up and doing 2 miles is awesome!!! All that walking will get you results. Keep it up!

SweetPea- I am on Effexor, have been for about 6months. I don't get the tired feeling at all, did big time on Wellbutrin & Zoloft tho. If anything, I think the only things I suffer with from the E is the horrible perspiring and the fact that I am not dropping weight as quickly as I could be. I feel insatiable all the time, so I really have to watch my portions and calories. Will hopefully be adding another med to maybe counteract this as soon as my ADD meds are stablized.
If you're not comfortable with this Rx, then definitely talk to your dr. and seek another one. If you like it tho and are just suffering side affects there is something more than likely they can couple with it so you don't have to start over again. Just my 2cents!
How's that sugar-free thing working out? Were you successful yesterday? I hope you were!♥

April, yay for the energy! Hope today is more of the same for you.

Leenie, hope to see you today sometime. Doesn't everyone know to leave you alone so you can talk with us? Have a great day!

Am doing really well with my food and exercise. I hurt my leg again this morning though, not sure what's going on there. I was able to finish my workout but had to modify some moves. It doesn't hurt at all tho when I ride the bike. May have to make a trip to el doctor. Weather here is super, 80's and very sunny. However, we got our first fire of the year and it's not exactly small. We've had no rain in over 100 days and that is not a good thing with all the dry we have here. I hope this isn't a sign of what is yet to come this year, it gets scary!

Alrighty, well I'm outtie for a bit. It's wonderful to see you all here. Have a super day girls, keep shining. ♥♥

Hey MMarie - boy it must feel like a "load off of ya" since you don't have to do my walking for me this week ;-) but hey - if you wanna do some extra walking and let me have the benefits.....well then you just go right ahead ;-) Yea I feel better (even tho it was hard to get up this morning) but I mainly notice that when I walk, I tend to do everything else better - the eating and water, etc. But definitely, the walking perks me up too.

Leenie - you sure must be busy at work! how are you doing with your eating and exercise ....since you started all of this it's only fair of me to ask

Danielle - CONGRATS on doing with with your food and exercise. Hope your leg gets better. I know it's definitely been warmer down here this winter - and it makes us wonder what it will possibly be like come August - YIKES - but we are suppose to have our first hard freeze on Sunday morning - they are saying it will be 28....but we will see.

later gaters

I just checked the forum rules to make sure it was ok for me to post a link to a new website that has a lot of great thyroid info and it looks like it is ok to do that (unless I've missed something - and if that is the case - please let me know).

So I just wanted to share this website as the info there could be helpful to anyone with a thyroid problem or for anyone that thinks they might have a thyroid problem.

Sweet pea - my kitty is supposedly a siamese mix, but to look at her now she looks full siamese, complete with the crossed eyes and loud mouth. She's one of 8 that I have (I've got to find homes for 3 of them though ).

Marie - How long ago were you diagnosed bipolar? I pay attention to my sleep habits, exercise (which until recenlty was nill), and my moods every single day. I'm hoping that by doing so I can catch a mood swing before it becomes full blown and screws me up.
