Thank you for all of your support and good advice about my daughter going off to college! She cannot decide whether or not to live on campus or commute. She keeps going back and forth. I just try to listen and not push one way or the other. I want it to be HER decision. We just found out that she has until early to mid June to decide for sure. They have some housing options for her, and we can most likely see them once the students are out of them for the summer. I think that will help with her decision.

I have been a LITTLE better with exercise, but it is still VERY sporadic and not at all where I want it to be. I will NOT give up on myself, though! I CAN do this!!! I mentioned a little while ago that I hurt my hip during a fall about 2 and a half years ago and it flares up at times... sometimes worse than others. It has been really bad lately, which is not helping exercise matters. It was originally my right hip, but now it has moved into my upper right thigh area. It often hurts like **** just when I walk. Thankfully, I am seeing a new primary care doc this Thursday morning. I will be embarrassed to tell him how long I have battled this hip/upper thigh injury, but I HAVE to get help for it. I hope he will take an x-ray and we will go from there. I expect him to advise physical therapy. I really do not want to commit to more appointments on my already full calendar, but I am afraid I will have to if I ever want this hip/upper thigh to heal. It has been bothering me for WAY TOO LONG!!!

I am back to getting my eating under control, but I have avoided the scale because my jeans are fitting just a bit more snug lately. I think I've only gone up a few pounds, but I don't want to see the evidence!

Lisa: So happy to hear that PT is helping! I hope the shots will help your knees. Sorry they are painful. Hope it will be worth it in the long run. When did you turn 51? I beat you there this past December! Yep, our bodies don't work the way they used to, do they? Everything is much harder physically... unfortunately. I am really feeling my age, too. That is why I really need to get a consistent exercise pattern going. I have done a little better recently, but there is tons of room for improvement and NO good excuses!!! I do think we can "turn back time" a little bit with exercise and good nutrition.[/purple]
    Kathleen,
It is so great to see you post. Miss you tons round here. Not the same when you're gone.

I bet your daughter will take a look at her college room and be able to make a decision.

You'll feel so much better when that hip heals. You'll feel more like exercising. It is finally getting through my thick skull that I have to do some form of exercise after PT is done. Walking is boring to me. I'll continue to do the exercises mike has taught me. It's well over an hour of exercises. Strengthening, gait and balance.

    Ladies,

I'm down to 1 bra and it's too big. I ****ing hate it. Uncomfortable.

It is so windy here tonight. My hip was killing me so I took ibuprofen. It's better. Plus a have a warm 16 lb kitty on it.

    Sweet dreams.
  • Lisa, Congats on being down to one bra. Hope you are able to find one that’s comfortable.

    Hello all,
I was good yesterday- made it to my double fitness class. The commute home was not enjoyable but I am not going to let the commute block me from going to my health club on weeknights.

The scale has been cooperating lately. Yay
  • Lisa well done for all your hard work with the PT! It's a blessing and a curse to go down a bra size - nice to know you've lost the weight, but man do I hate bra shopping! Hope your knee is still doing better

flower123 have you recovered from the stress of family weekend yet? I hope your strep has cleared up now!

Pandacupcake so glad the scales are behaving themselves again! Well done for your commitment to your exercise classes - spread some of that motivation over my way please!

Kathleen good luck with the new physician! I hope they can give you some answers on your hip. It can be the most awkward place to get an injury. Your daughter must have a lot of big decisions to make - we'll see what she decides in June!

Holly has the snow stopped yet? Hope everything is going well with the new bosses!
  • I'm still doing pretty well with the weight loss - I've lost all the holiday gain, and if I lose 1 1/2lbs more, I'll no longer be obese on the BMI scale (I'll still be overweight, but it's a step down!), I also managed to squeeze down a dress size for work trousers! I bought a pair in a larger size 3 years ago, thinking I'd only need them temporarily they were looking so old and worn out now.

Only thing is I've lost my voice this week, so I'm not doing any extra exercise, and I've been eating lots of boiled sweets to soothe my throat, so my new trousers had better still fit me next week!

I don't have a lot else to report at the moment, but I'll let you all know if anything happens!

Hi Coop congrats on losing ALL the holiday gain! and being SO very close to moving down a step on the BMI scale! But so sorry to hear of losing your voice, that must be frustrating.

We still have snow cover and I had to chop thick ice from the driveway this morning and our temperatures have been way below the norm for this time of year. HOPEFULLY it will warm up a bit soon.

Hi Lisa first, meant to comment about your daughter's very trying and frustrating concert trip! I bet that will be a stressful memory for a long time.

Hope your hip is better! and yay for a warm 16 pound kitty to help

The "family" thing was mixed. Some of the time it felt like I was part of a (unwarm) family. Other times it felt like I was parade from them. The food was exhausting. A gourmand experience from beginning to end. I am so uncomfortable from all the brunch, lunch and dinners. All in resturaunts. I bet I gained back every bit of weight lost. Need a food rest.
    Hi Flower
First, very sorry to hear of the chronic strep, that must be painful and a drag to deal with. Then very sorry to hear of how your mother acts..you are a good person to still travel to be with your family!!

Hi Kathleen!! First, it is great that you are trying to remain neutral about your dear daughter's living situation at school, must be hard though!

sure hope you have an optimistic appt tomorrow with the doctor about your poor hip/thigh pain! Hey do not be embarrassed about anything, doctors should know by now that we don't like to see them and sometimes we hope pains go away on their own or diminish.

congrats on getting the eating under control, WHY is it that some people just don't seem to care about it and it's all I think about
  • So things are much better on the job front with me, I know change is hard and I just needed to give it some more time. They gave everyone (well, all four of us) a $100 bonus with our first check, for thanks for the first week together...and they gave me another $100 bonus yesterday, discreetly, for 'extra' thanks to me...very nice! they have said that they have really great plans for the store, to develop into a much more upscale deli and bakery and would want me 'in a leadership position' in the bakery. And willing to reconfigure the kitchen under my instruction and consultation. But no talk about compensation or benefits yet...

so at this point I am just looking forward to going to the summer job, my first day back there should be May 8 or so.

and *trying* to look forward to spring but the ground is still white with snow, the highs are in the low 40's, and I had to chop ice on the driveway this morning to break it up.

we started out seedlings probably too early as usual but we are desperate to think and see things growing! tomatoes, some ornamental corn, my kewl huge prolific Boston Marrow squash, a couple Blue Hubbard squashes that I will donate to the Fire Department Harvest supper this fall; and flowers!! zinneas, sunflowers, pansies, petunias, morning glories, nastursiums. And herbs. I talk to them every morning to say Hi and encourage them
  • Hi all

Lisa: Sorry Jennifer (your Daughter??) got stuck in the WI storm. That state sure can get some significant snowstorms. a 16 lb kitty on an aching hip sounds much better than a heating pad, which is my usual go-to. Purrs are quite healing. As is the body heat.

Pandacupcake cewl that you walked across the marathon finish line on Sunday. It was so cold and rainy on Sunday and Monday. There were sheets of ice crashing off the hotel roof at 5:30 am on Monday where i was staying, 10 or 15 miles west of Boston. Awesome that the scale has been cooperating lately, wtg !!!

IBelieveInMe2 Thank you for the welcome. You are one of the "originals" in the group. Well, thanks for being one of those who started it all. I am grateful to be here where people are honest about challenges as well as successes of course. And people are supportive. Great that your daughter will be close enough to home so she can commute to college if she chooses. At least she will not be too far away from you, either way. Great that you are taking steps to get the hip, and pain in the other thigh resolved. The right pt person can really resolve things pretty efficiently. I used to also add in going to an osteopath.

Coop27 Congrats on losing a size in Trousers. What a great feeling that can be. Hope your throat and voice are better tomorrow. Thanks for asking about recovering from the trip. That's a work in progress. Better each day.

Holly, it will warm up soon. I think Starting on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday will be around 60... they say. With sun starting on Saturday !! I will believe it when I see it. Sorry you have to deal with the snow. How is the work situation going?

Am trying to recuperate from the time with relatives. Sleeping a lot. Parts of it were fine. Other parts, not so much. There is little compassion from the core family unit. They are harsh. I went to 5 restaurants in 64 hours. And that's because I declined one of the feedings, lol. GREAT food. Great restaurants. Its the only time I ever drink.

I got home on Monday. Tuesday I scared someone. My eyes were slits. I could not open them. Even eye liner and blush didn't help the frightening appearance, lol. Been sleeping a lot. Finally today I am feeling well enough to post.

I have a gift (greeting cards) to make for the person who picked me up at the bus and drove me to where the "family" was eating. Each card takes 45 or 25 minutes, depending on the style. I hope I can get the energy soon to make them. Need to get back on track losing some of the weight I gained. Thursday I am having company for dinner. Will spare you the food porn details It will not be a low cal day.

I hope everyone has a great Thursday!!!

I make greeting cards. The ones I promised someone as a thank you gift, take around 45 minutes each to make. I will send her around 7 of them. But some will take only around 20 minutes each to make. I hope I can get the energy soon to make them soon. Tomorrow I am having someone over for dinner. today I was not very successful with food. But I was not horrible with it either. Tomorrow's food should be good. My friend is moving away to the west coast. So that's sad. This is the last dinner I will make for her. She is a good friend. She taught me how to read tea leaves. I laugh a lot when we do it. Not a very serious tea leaf reader, I guess.

I hope everyone has a great Thursday!!!
    Hi flower,

Glad your back. We missed ya.

Yes, Jennifer was stuck in WI. I'm not sure how bad it was, bad enough she got her car stuck. I do think she got out before the worst hit though.

I get warn out when I am stressed, flower. When what ever was stressing me out is over, I sleep a lot.

I scrapbook. I made a page the other day, turned out nice. I'll share with you all sometime.

It just so happens my 16 lb purr boy is laying on my hip, as I type this. He loves me and I adore him. His name is Leo Bug, Buggy for short. We've called him Buggy for years.

    Sweet dreams.

Wooooooo holly, money, money, money!!! I found a dollar bill in my car the other day and that cheered me right up.lol

I'm glad things are better at work. So happy for you. When you yell at people they know not to **** with you. LOL Yay for your summer job coming soon. I can't believe you all are still having winter weather. It's just unreal. Be careful on the ice, extra careful.

She hates WI now, Holly. I laughed when she told me that.
My buggy butt is on me right now. I'm laying down, wiggling around. I can't get comfy. He's not budged one bit.

I go Monday to get my left knee injection. I make the assistant hold my hand cause I'm a wuss. They drain the water off and then injected the gel in it.

    Sweet dreams, Holly.

I'm sorry you are sick, Coop. I think I've had strep once in my life. Feel better soon.

    Congrats on your weight loss!!!!
