January 2018 Ups & Downs Thread
:newyear:
Hi all, welcome to the first thread of 2018! For any newbies, please feel free to join us :) |
Happy New Year, my friends!
Here's hoping for health, happiness and peace. Monica |
And to you, Monica. May we all be blessed with a wonderful 2018. I'm so happy to share it with all of you.
It's been a rough couple of days. We've not had much to eat, I'm even out of cat food. Today, the cats had bologna, which they loved. Tomorrow, I'm going to see if the food bank is open. I get paid on the 3rd. I've almost got my dining area cleared of moving boxes. I'm keeping everything together in my spare bedroom. I've applied for metro housing. Hopefully, sometime in the next year I'll be up for help with rent. I may have to move to another, cheaper apartment, hence my keeping everything in boxes, together in one area. I don't think metro will help with a 2 bedroom apartment. I'll have to move to a 1 bedroom which is no biggie. If metro helps me make rent, that will free up my own money, which would be a gift from God. I am already blessed but that would be extra blessed. One thing I need to do is get Lily and Sasha fixed. Poor baby sashie is in heat right now. I feel so bad but I promised them both, we had a little talk, that I would get them both fixed asap. Hank and Buggy are both fixed so no baby kitties. I'm reading a really good book. I used to not be able to read, I felt too wired. Since I moved, I've been able to start reading again, the first time in a very long time. Yay for me. Not much more to say here. I've blabbering on long enough. Miss you all. |
Oh my gosh, I missed Coop. How could I have done that.
Hi Coop. *waves* I think I'm losing it. *head smack* |

Sorry you're struggling so much financially Lisa, money problems are so stressful. I hope the food bank can help you until you get paid. |

I've been getting some much needed work, around the apartment, done. I've brought some more stuff in from my vehicle. It may take me a year to get all my moving stuff out. LOL The thing is a mess. I need a hair cut. I look like sasquatch. :) |
Coop thank you for starting the January 2018 thread! :)
Hi Monica!! Quote:
 good to hear you making jokes Lisa! and glad to hear you are enjoying reading again. Hoping so much though that the money situation improves and you don't feel that pressure. I have today off!! it's my first day off since Christmas Day  worked 50 hours last week but I survived :carrot: and even felt up to doing a long workout just now. I already had my 2 cups of coffee by 7 and picked up the living room and vacuumed. Many other rooms need attention but next will be shoveling outside, we only got maybe an inch or two last night but it needs addressing. Also, it is a BALMY 8 degrees out there, I want to take advantage of that, yesterday we made records broken at -29F!! not wind chill, that was still temperature!! Our kitchen pipes frozen for about an hour but we got them going again with extra heat. Also need to do laundry and plan some meals. Hi to everyone and please visit :) |
I've been bedridden for the last 4 days with stomach flu :( I'm starting to forget what outside looks like!

Hi to everyone else! we got a dump of snow last night, I just came in from shoveling for 2 HOURS . sure glad I can do it. and I count it towards my exercise goal for the month! last night I cracked open a Blue Hubbard squash that we grew, I had read that these things last 6 months and it sure was in good condition. HARD rind!! but so delicious when baked, I ate a piece right away with salt and pepper, and then turned the rest of it into a big pot of soup. I love to eat things that we grow!! My boss is giving me a hard time about taking next Saturday off for my annual fundraiser/raffle, because it means his wife has to work a double and it might be super-busy, I don't care!! I have worked doubles to cover for HER!! when she has gone on ski vacations!! I have worked doubles, I have adjusted my schedule at the drop of a hat, I have worked Easter, CHristmas Eve, New Years Day without a complaint, I will stick to my guns. Problem is that he's pressuring a co-worker to work on her day off, because of me . it's not my fault that they are continuously short staffed and it really hits them when someone is out. Besides, they've been telling us for months that they're selling the place, I have no security, I don't care!! :tantrum: OK rant over :D hope you all have a good day!! |
Happy New Year, everyone! :newyear: Wishing us all happiness, weight loss, and overall good health in 2018!
Coop: So sorry you are feeling awful! :( I hope you feel better SOON! Lisa: Sorry you are dealing with financial issues. I hope you will be able to get the assistance you need. How is the low carb eating coming along? Holly: Wow! You are a working machine! I say that your boss's wife needs to suck it up and work her double shift like YOU have done many times... for her even!!! Yes, stick to your guns and don't cave to his pressure! Monica: Thank you for your constant support and prayers! I so appreciate it! When do your renovation projects begin? It sure sounds like you have been keeping busy, too. It's always good to hear from you. Jessica: Do you have any updates for us? I forget... what was your motto for 2018? Was it confidence? I hope your stress has eased up a bit. Sending a HUGE congrats on succeeding with not smoking!!! :D :bravo: Keep it up! You ~ and your health ~ are so worth it! :) Things are good with me for the moment. We spent a lot of time with my sisters-in-law over Christmas, and they are both terrific cooks, so there was tons of delicious food everywhere. I pigged out! :o Ate more than I have in a LONG time. Fortunately, the scale only went up a few pounds. I am determined to get it back off quickly. I've been working out a little more often lately. :tread: A big improvement over not working out at all! So hopefully I can get my act together and keep it together in the new year. I need to remember my own advice about focusing on PROGRESS rather than perfection. I am another year older as of December 4th, and it always sucks to plug in my new age in our treadmill... but at least I'm still kickin'! ;) |
holly it's just a fact of owning your own business that sometimes you need to plug gaps and work a bit harder, so your boss' wife shouldn't be complaining. You're right to stick to your guns! I hope everything goes well with the fundraiser :)
kathleen I'm glad you're having a good spell, and had a lovely Christmas :) Happy Birthday for December 4th! |
I am feeling a bit better now, still nothing like 100% - I've been off work, eating a diet of toast and popcorn. At least I've lost all my Christmas weight, so there are some silver linings
|
Coop - very glad to hear you are a little better, but what a crummy way to lose some weight!
HI to everyone else!! are you all experiencing the horrible cold?? this morning it dipped down to -24 F, that's air temp, not wind chill. It's only 'up' to -18 now at 9:30 a.m.! thank goodness my car has been starting though it doesn't want to  and my work situation about next Saturday is resolved, a part time employee offered to work that day, bless her heart!!! I'm gonna buy her a $10 gas card because I am so relieved. Sun is shining which is beautiful :sunny: but soooo cold!!! |
so very great to hear from our beloved Kathleen !! :carrot:
|
Hello Everyone, Happy New Year! I hope everyone has had a good new year so far :newyear:
I ran (or, didn't ring, actually) in the New Year being very sick. I had a sinus infection, upper respiratory infection, and double pink eye! My wife was also sick with the flu. Yea, we were a hot mess :( BUT, we made our own New Year this past weekend and stayed up just as if it were NYE. That was nice. :smug: Started back on Weight Watchers yesterday. Since gaining 40-ish pounds back over the last year, it's time to lose this weight once and for all. 2017 was the year to quit smoking, 2018 is the year to finally get to my goal weight :carrot: As for emotionally, they are still increasing one of my meds (mood stabilizer) since having had to take me off several d/t serotonin syndrome this past September. I see my psychiatrist on Friday, and she'll likely increase and I'm hoping to continue to feel more stable. Oh, AND my therapist of 20 years moved to Arizona last week. We'll be continuing to see each other over Skype/Webcam (once she gets settled), but I'm pretty bummed about it (although, happy for her.) :dizzy: The 1 year anniversay of my mom's death is coming up: 1/20. I'm feeling a lot of different things about that... :( Anyways just checking in. Be back soon to read back on everyone's posts! :grouphug: |
I don't feel well either. I've been getting migraines across the back of my head. I think I need my neck crackedo, asap.
I am sorry you and your SO have been so sick. I'll do my personals later. Miss you all. |

Thanks, Jesika. I have a headache tonight....again. Around the back of my skull.
Doctor in the morning. I'm nervous about being weighed. I haven't been doing my best lately. Haircut tomorrow, then the library. Sweet dreams all. |
My hair looks great.
I have to go get an EKG and chest X rays tomorrow. I'm waiting on a call from a pulmonologist, for an appointment. I also go back to my Dr in a week. Lots going on here. I hope you all are well. Check in. I miss you. |
I'm putting off having my tests. I detest having to undress. I hate those gowns.
I've started a journal as was suggested to me a long time ago. I don't have the money for a real journal so I'm using a tablet that was Jennifer's in college. It has her handwriting in it and I love it. Makes me feel closer to her. Elvira and I went for a long drive today. I really love this area. I'm finding places I used hang out in and places I lived in, many years ago. |
What is wrong with this board? Slow, timing out. Hard to get on it.
|
I hope everyone's bugs have shifted - seems like everyone has been ill lately!
Lisa - I really hope everything is ok with your EKG. Is it just a routine check-up, or is this because of your headache? I'm glad you're settling in well now. Holly - how did your auction go? Hope you raised lots of cash! And I hope you've survived through the cold snap, it sounded horrendous! Jessica - sorry you've been sick :( sending hugs  to you for your mum's anniversary. The first is always a really tough day. I hope you can do something special. |
We had OH's grans funeral on Monday, it was a good service, although not as many people were able to attend as we expected. It was quite cold though, and I think a some people that knew her will have stayed at home to avoid any risk of falling on ice.
OH keeps going through phases of feeling quite low. It has been a tough few years for us both, I think he has had the worse end of it. I need to think of something to pick him up and give him a bit more to look forward to. |
Lisa: I hope your migraines have subsided. Why were you having the EKG, etc.? I am worried that you postponed them. Just want you to stay on top of your health. Please keep us updated. Is your journal for personal feelings or a food diary? I haven't written in a journal for awhile, but it always helps me so much. I hope it helps you, too. So you used to live in Washington? You said you found places you used to hang out in and live in when you went for your drive with Elvira. It sounds like maybe you like the area now? I sure hope so! I so want you to be happy, Lisa!
|
Holly: We have had some bitter cold temps in Ohio lately, but nothing like -24!!! Holy cow! I think I'd turn into an icicle!!! :fr: I'm so glad you have your new-to-you car with those awesome new tires on it to carry you through your rough winter. What is happening with the new owners at your job? I hope all will work out well for you!
|
Coop: Thank you for the birthday wishes! :) Sorry to hear that you've been so sick. :( I hope you are back to 100% by now. That's great that you've lost all of your Christmas weight! I don't think I've managed to do that yet. :( That must have been tough for your OH at his gran's funeral. Glad it was a nice service, though. Sorry you have both had a rough few years. :( You deserve a break!
|
Jessica: I'm sorry to hear that you were so sick for the New Year. :( I hope you are feeling much better by now. I wish you much success on Weight Watchers! You can do it!!! :cheer2: :cheer3: Many kudos to you for quitting smoking in 2017! That is so awesome!!! :bravo: Sorry to hear that your therapist of 20 years moved away. That must be very difficult, especially when they are having to adjust your medications. But that is wonderful that you will still be able to have sessions with her via Skype/Webcam. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as the one year anniversary of your mom's death approaches.

My Dr feels I need some tests. I am still having trouble breathing. It's kind of hard to talk about. I won't put them off for very long. I have to see a specialist too. My diary isn't a food one, it's personal. I lived here from 1999 to 2005. My father became very ill so I moved back home to Ohio. I've always loved it here, always, hence my move back to Kennewick in Oct. I'm really sorry I missed your birthday, Kathleen. I hope brought you many smiles. |

I'll tackle my headaches soon, just not now. My plate is full. I love it here. I have great memories, they make me very happy. |

Lisa - oh we hate to hear that our friend is having daily headaches!! and the other things sound worrysome also, specialists needed. We want you 100% well :carrot: I'm glad you had a good long drive with Elvira! and looking at your daughter's writing is nice :) Hope the journaling helps!
Coop - having the funeral over is a milestone but it sure doesn't ease the sorrow, I know. I hate to hear that you and OH have had a couple tough years...that is a long time!!!! :( best wishes to you and him for trying to find something bright to look forward to, together :) Kathleen, Hi!!! you are always so sensitive to others and you write such great personals to us :) how are YOU doing??? The sale STILL hasn't happened so I'm still stuck with the RB, lol. The fundraiser went great, we had slightly lower attendance due to weather (flooding!! because we had a day of almost 50 degrees and torrential RAIN then the temp plummeted.) but I did my part as President and emcee okay I guess. The person who won the motorcycle wasn't even there!! but we called her to notify and she was ecstatic. Very busy at work with MLK weekend, I have to go in an hour earlier today, as I did yesterday. have a wonderful day, friends!! |
Hello, Everyone!
It is snowing here on the Cape today - probably three inches or so. We had a stretch of weather like Holly's, only nowhere near as low, but below zero! Then we had a crazy Nor'easter that dumped 20 inches in my neighborhood, four inches about a mile away! AGH! After the snow we had the same warm up, with dense fog and flood warnings. My bathrooms have been put off for a while. The contractor asked if I minded waiting as he had some emergency storm-related houses to do. I thought about it for less than a minute- I would not want to be the one who absolutely needed repairs, and then I thought about how the doors would be open with them going in and out, the dust from ripping up two 28 year old tile floors, etc. and said Go right ahead! Help those that need it! |
AGH !
After writing the post above, I wrote a long one with personals, and lost it! Another problem I am having is when I try to go from the home page to our page, I get ads for diets, belly fat remedies, etc. I will try again another time. Take care, my friends! |
Hi Monica! great to see you :) that is very good of you to postpone your renovations so storm-related people can be helped. 20 inches!!!:eek: nightmare!!
|
Hi ladies,
Just wanted to check in. I hope this post finds you well. It's pretty nice out here. 43 degrees. I go to the Dr tomorrow. My blood work came with back on Monday. I am anemic. My chest X ray came back fine. EKG will be read tomorrow. I'm sure it's fine. My headaches are better. I'll probably still see a chiropractor at some point. Not much else going on. Post when you can. :) |
Hi Lisa very glad to hear headaches are better!!
what is the treatment for anemia, more food related iron, or pills? Hi to everyone else, yes please check in :) working lots of extra hours to cover for a co-worker who is out of town with her new grandchild :) I know she'd do it for me, but I worked on my 2 days off already this week, and today is 7 a,m to 6 pm  money money :D |
Quote:
Hi Holly, I hope you are feeling ok. Working that much can take a toll on you. You sound good though and yes, money, money. Ask hubby to massage your feets, he'll love that. I have an iron supplement to take, 1 every morning Since Oct, I've lost 26 lbs. Miss you all. I hope everyone is well. |
Quote:
Way to go!!!! Thank you for the concern it is a lot of hours but I do feel good and it will be ok. Goodnight friends! 🌙 |
How is everyone?? I am actually feeling good...for January, and for being off my depression medication for 6 months now, I am feeling thankful for everything.
I worked 59 hours last week, the toughest stretch was 11 hours on Friday, 11 hours Saturday, and the 8 hours yesterday were the busiest in a long time. But I did it and nothing hurt!!! :carrot: and the pay will be worth it :D please check in to say hi  |
