zoloft

  • Why is it that everything I read says zoloft helps people with binge eat disorder and it seems to cause me to binge eat? I feel like a huge failure. I have gained at least 30 lbs being on this med, and I can't seem to get off of it. When I don't take it I am so depressed, but when I do take it, I eat everything sweet and salty in sight. It is as if it is determined to make me fat!! Just wanted to vent my frustration and embarrassment for overeating.
  • Jill,

If you are having any unpleasant side effects from your medication, please speak to your doctor. There are lots and lots of meds out there. Some might be a better fit for you than Zoloft. Each of us react differently to drugs so don't feel badly that you are having this reaction.

Have you started an exercise program? I really recommend that, for whatever my recommendation is worth lol. The endorphin rush and the feeling of control it gives you .. well it makes me less likely to scarf up everything in sight... just a suggestion.

    Good Luck
  • Thank you Linda! You are right about exercise, I used to love running and now that I quit, I am eating more. The combo of wrong med and no real exercise is making me a blimp. Thank you for making me think!
  • This is more like general anti-depressant talk. I have recently started on celexa and so far it has decreased my appetite and helped cheer me up. I was having problems sleeping and now I sleep through the night. (Celexa is not recommended for people in a manic phase of bipolar disorder). That isn't me, so it is ok.
Paxil made me worse. Wellbutrin gave me migraines. Prozac helps with "impulse control" ....my short fuse isn't so short on it, but , I'm glad I tried celexa ....so, what I guess I'm saying is there is a bit of trial and error in the process.
I know of a woman who has been on zoloft successfully for years. It is so true that everyone is different.
