Here it is by popular demand. The December Exercise Challenge!!!!! I hope to see friends from the November Exercise challenge as well as new people. This challenge is easy. Set an exercise goal for yourself and try and acheive it. Plan it so you can acheive it, but try to challenge yourself a bit. |
My Goal will be to exercise 1500 minutes during the Month of December. Plus 40 miles walked at work (which I am not counting into my intentional exercise minutes)!

I'd like to join. Exercise is not really my thing so I'm hoping a challenge will keep me on the ball. I like swimming and recently joined a gym that has a pool so I've been alternating between swimming and walking.
So...I think my goals will be... 350 Laps Swimming & 20 Miles Walked. Dec 1: 22 laps Dec 2: 0 Dec 3: 0 Dec 4: 24 laps Dec 5: 1 mile Dec 6: 24 laps Dec 7: 1 mile (also biked for 10 min.) My December exercise goal is to increase to FIVE days a week, one of which will be Pilates. I read somewhere recently that adding one day of something like yoga or Pilates to your routine can go a long way towards toning and flexibility, so I'm going to give it a try! December 1 - 45 mins I.E. (all cardio, all elliptical) 2 - taking today off - illness - boo! 3 - even sicker today 4 - VERY SICK 5 - I brought my gym bag to work with me, but I got sent home early... SO sick. 6 - still sick (sick sucks!) 7 - stupid office holiday party during my gym time 8 - FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY got back to the gym - 1 hour I.E. (45 cardio, 15 upper-body weight training) 9 - day of rest 10 - 75 mins I.E. (30 mins cardio elliptical, 30 minutes cardio recumbent bike, 15 mins lower-body strength training) 11 - GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH 12 - 60 mins I.E. (45 elliptical, 15 upper body strength training) 13 - 20 mins - Winsor Pilates DVD! 14 - 40 mins I.E. (20 crosstrainer, 20 recumbent bike) 15 - skipped - I am a bad Suz. 16 - 80 mins I.E. I am tickled that you're going to go to the gym! That's so great... and I think that once you try it and start successfully reaching exercise goals there, you'll really love it. I figured out that I used to hate the gym so much because I was setting unattainable goals for myself - like trying to do an hour of cardio on the very first day! - and it was really getting me down, I felt like a failure. I am glad to see everyone here!! December here we come!!! I think I am going to count my miles walked at work too. In a 5 hour shift I generally do 1.25 miles(although not vigorous exercise I want to make sure I am moving the whole time!) So I will go for 1.5 miles in a 5 hour shift and 2.25 in an 8 hour shift. I will go for 40 miles walked at work this month (I may come up a little short because we close for a week at the end of the month, I work but it is general maintenece and I usually sit and scrub and scrub and scrub!!) I will not count the miles at work into the minutes done though.

I think that still counts jacatron! :D Okay well I am not good about checking in every day since I am usually out WALKING! :lol: I also spend alot of time in the hot and healthy gals club. Everyone is welcome to join us if you haven't already! Anyhow I am presently at 2280 for November! I was averaging 90 minutes a day til the 20th but got frustrated when I was not seeing much validation on the scale! So I slacked off a bit and am now back to 80 a day average. *sigh* but that is still an improvement from last month when i had a 67 minute average! Anyhow no matter what i will get to 1800 for december, that is the plan, if not, more! On another note I did notice a difference in my waist though since walking so much, so maybe I was losing inches! I have since measured myself. Need to go for a walk. Good luck everyone!!

Hey guys! Jeni, I'm so glad you started this up so early! Good to see some familiar faces! I think I will up my goal for next month (even though I haven't achieved THIS month's goal!!) and I will work towards,hmmmm, 1500 minutes!!! I can and WILL do it!! Starting Saturday, though, because I will need Friday to finish off this month's challenge! Jasmine, I adore your Avatar! So true, so true.

I'm aiming for 930 minutes (average of 30 minutes a day.) I'll return to my gym after a 3-4 month break where I love weightlifting and don't mind some of the cardio. Or I might walk along the ocean. Or both!

I'd say that I can beat each and every one of you, but that would be a bald faced lie!!! You guys work out so many minutes, I struggle to keep up. I AM going to try this month, if I can, I want to beat my 1500 minute goal.

Dont worry Shellie I struggled to get in my 1500 minutes in this month. I challenged myself Sept and October, each month I did 1300 minutes + No problem :) I will barely get in my 1500 minutes this month (and Jasmine has done over 2000 minutes....

I'm with you Jasonslea... 1200 minutes for me too! I met my goal of 900 minutes for November so time to crank it up a notch.
You ladies are crazy ambitious with 1800 minutes... so impressive! Hopefully that will be me in a few months. :) |

My goal is to walk at least 6 miles on the treadmill every week and to exercise for 250 min. every week. All of December that would be about 25 miles and about 1000 minutes. Wish me luck!

I got to 2465 in November so I am over my 1800 mark. SO an 82 minute a day average , so 41.083 hours and 123.25 miles! Whoohooo!! Now for pounds. I started at 219 and today I am down to 213! Now I will say I did lose an extra pound before turkey day but gained it back. SO I did lose 7 pounds last month but gained 1 back. Still not bad. One thing I did notice though is my tummy is getting better! A little tip for you brisk walkers, every once in a while shake it up by running for a minute or so, it gets that heart rate up and actually (IMO) works the top belly muscles. That is what started decreasing this month for me. Drink plenty of water! :D I am looking for ward to this month! |
Happy December 1st ladies!!! Christmas time is rapidly approaching (aargh)! I hate the holidays. Too much good food, and never an escape from it. My goal this month is to avoid the temptation at work, and only eat yucky on Christmas Day. My other goal is to stick with my excercise minutes, and finish those. Alas, I have failed this month (my gym is closed :( ), but I will NOT let that stop me this month. I think I set my minutes too high, though. Not enough hours in the day, but what can you do? Jasmine, in response to your question about Pilates, I only do it once in a here and there, but I do a workout video every day. I get really bored with them, so it's nice to switch up. I've noticed that when I started doing the videos my weight loss slowed a bit, but I've lost many more inches and I'm not as jiggly. My lack of weight loss may also be attributed to the fact that I SUCK at counting my points! Whatever, I'm not quitting this time. I hope you guys have a wonderful Friday, and work those little fanny's off!!!

Cool shellie. Well remember that the scale is not a true indicator. Like October I lost 9.75 pounds! November was 7(gained 1 back) BUT I had increased my walking! My average daily was 15 minutes more so it bugged me a bit which is why around the 20th I slacked off cause I had a 90 minute average til then. BUT I did notice a big change in my body! My waist is getting smaller! Even dh notices! I am getting curves again! The top of my belly is flattening out(like right under my boobs/well i am 213 but you know what i mean! ) and just yesterday I noticed a BIG change in my lower belly like it is sloping off to. I am feeling lil hip bones and my dh was telling me last nite about my back, that he can feel (w/out trying hard) that the bottom of my back ribs bones. :D Also! My bra! I usually have to purposely feel thru skin for the collar bones but a few days ago I was reaching over there and it was there! (cant really see it yet but it is getting closer to the surface!) Back to my bra, a few weeks ago we had to adjust the straps! (I have already had to tighten up the clasps too) and just two days ago the straps were falling off my shoulders so I had to tighten them again!
I have started measuring myself. And just remember that it is better to work out and be firm than jiggly! that means you have muscle pounds, not fat pounds and they weigh the same so that is why you may not notice on the scale but you will be trimmer and might even get into a smaller size! Have you seen the muscle vs. fat pic? |
Oh and I would encourage you to be legit and count those points! I started losing steadily after hitting a plateau once I really started counting cals and portion control! It is worth it!

I'm shooting for 1050 minutes in December since I do 50 minutes of cardio each weekday. Exercising on Christmas Day is going to be a challenge. :dizzy:

Jasmine, I know exactly what you mean about the whole "right under the boobs" weight loss! It's funny, you can totally tell I've lost weight there, but my tummy is still poochy and my hips are still the same size. People say that you usually lose from the top to the bottom, and I think I agree. Yeah, stuff goes away here and there as well, but mostly it goes from face down to the toes.

Shari~1200 minutes is great!! Give credit where credit is due!! 1200 minutes is a great goal. (That is 20 hours of exercise!!!) I really need to get my Pilates going again. Tommy's naptime has changed, so its right in the middle of General Hospital (:o it is my guilty pleasure please don't hold it against me please :o ) I do ride my exercise bike for the first 30 minutes then DH comes home for lunch and I hate doing pilates when he is here, some things need to be kept private :) . I have to start doing them again because my belly is in serious need of Toning. My rib cage is always the first place I lose, then my legs from toes up. But now my rib cage is starting to get flabby again, :( why is that??? |

Hey everyone, welcome newbies! I am startin' this month out kind of slow, so I set a more realistic goal. Considering how I usually get during the holidays, 1200 minutes is more feasable. Been sick since the first, so I haven't gotten much working out in. WILL work out today, at least 1 hr. Jasmine, you have got some drive in you, I am super jealous!

eat soup elyn best thing for a cold especially sore throat and it can be low in calories too. Do you need to go to the doctor? I hope you'll be okay. You sound very sick. I'm sorry you don't feel good!!

yeah my mom and i have it bad. thanks for your concern! i need to eat some soup. but after 5 days... i seem to be getting better. atleast i think I am. I'll give an update tomorrow.
and whats worse is that I'm in a theatre show right now, so i go to rehearsal everyday feeling terrible. not good. but hopefully i'll be able to get back up to eating right and exercising soon!! i actually wanted to exercise tonight since i felt so bad... but i couldnt... b/c i felt so bad. haha :) :) |
