(???) 11/21- 136.6 Note sure what caused the spike in my weight on Sunday- it's disconcerting. I'm not sore, don't have DOMS, I didn't think I ate anything out of my norm for carbs. I guess it could be hormones, I dunno. Hoping to see the scale drop back down quick! Gardenerjoy- great job on the weight loss trend! |
chub: I hadn't been yet, but I just did some Thanksgiving grocery shopping this weekend and that includes some of my biggest trigger foods (especially mac and cheese, which has been my #1 comfort/binge food since childhood), so I noticed I've been having more cravings since then. I'm just telling myself I'm about to be able to indulge in them soon enough, so no need to get too excited for it every day. I will get my fill on Thursday...just have to keep telling myself that, lol. If it helps, just look at it as just another day with just a different variety of foods for dinner and then set your mind to get back to the norm the next day as best as you can. Good luck!
kfunk: I will also be doing some kind of extended fasting before Thanksgiving dinner -- and maybe even afterwards, as well. We will see! I'm not sure if I am ready for a full 24 hour fast, but depending on how the holiday goes, I may be ready to try one the day after...lol. -------------------------------------- Weigh-in was up just a smidge to 224.2 today, which I just count as a normal fluctuaction more than a real gain. We'll see what tomorrow brings. That being said, a more interesting thing that happened today is that I joined my first DietBet! (If you've never heard of it before, it's where you and others join a "game" together to bet a certain amount of money - in this case, the one I joined was $30 - that you can lose 4% of your weight in 4 weeks. Those who do meet that goal get their money back, as well as split the money that was forfeited by those who didn't meet their goal for the game.) I'm not really looking at in as a way of making money, because I heard you never really win much over your initial bet, because people are more likely to win when their own money is on the line...but, that's kind of what I'm looking to it for, as well. I'm basically having someone hold this money hostage for me, because I am more motivated not to lose my own money than I am to win maybe $5-20, lol. Has anyone ever tried one of these before?? I'm hoping this will just be extra incentive not to get too off-track with Thanksgiving (and any possible leftovers) on the way. Week Three 15: 226.2 16: 226.4 17: 225.6 18: 225.0 19: 224.2 20: 224.4 21: ---------------------------- End of Week Two: 227.2 Total Loss for Week Three: |
Kfunk: Thank you for the positive words. I'm trying to soften the blow by cutting out a few extra calories leading up to the few big thanksgiving meals I'll have. I told my boyfriend that for our private dinner, we can splurge on the main course or dessert (but not both) and he's supportive of my suggestion.
Ophelia: I'll keep your advice in mind when I'm seated at the table in front of all that food :D. I just don't want anyone making comments on my food intake as my family can be judgmental and I didn't tell anyone I'm dieting. As for dietbet, I was a participant for a while. I found it incredibly hard to lose the 4% in 4 weeks and eventually stopped. Best of luck to you! I've been kicking up the amount of exercise the past few days to move the scale faster. Got 5 miles in today and will repeat this tomorrow :) |
chub: It took me a while to accept this, but I really do enjoy my holiday season more when I go in with a plan that is pretty focused on what it takes for me to be healthy. My general plan for eating events around the holidays is to focus on veggies and take a tiny serving of anything else I want. That usually works for me to the point that I come home hungry and eat an apple.
That strategy is relatively invisible to other diners. I can fill my plate with vegetables so there isn't much room for more than a bite or two of other things. At dessert time, I can say "I'm so full of all this delicious food, so I'd just like a sliver of that pie." DH is into my plan, so our other strategy is to take one small serving of dessert and share it. I like your splurge idea -- I do something similar when we do fancy restaurant meals. I get drinks or dessert, but not both. blondie I think I might actually incorporate a weekly 24 hour fast! I am actually going to do a couple this week before and after Thanksgiving. You are moving down quite nicely, great job!!
eagle I wouldn't worry about it too much, especially since you have been on plan. It is probably a weird fluctuation that normally would go unnoticed, but you caught it because you weigh daily. What is DOMS? ophelia I luckily get to avoid the grocery store, thank goodness!! We are in charge of the pies and I will be picking them up at Bakers Square, so easy! This time of the year is crazy at the store! I agree, total fluctuation with you! I have looked at the diet bet website, but I have never joined one. Please let me know what you think of them!!! chub Your plan for Thanksgiving looks flawless, great job implementing those changes, they all add up!! Awesome job kicking up the exercise, 5 miles is fantastic!! I am sorry that you have to worry about what your plate looks like, I don't understand why people would feel the need to comment on somebodies food choices :( I think I am going to take your approach and eat a moderate meal and then splurge on dessert! It is nice that your BF is supportive!! joy I completely agree, having a plan is key to success!! I love your idea about filling up your plate with veggies, I will definitely follow suit!! I'm up this week - I promised myself I would not focus on upswings so I don't record them - mostly because the body naturally ebbs and flows - and sometimes the occasion burger is needed for sanity. :p Happy Tuesday all!!

(???) 11/21- 136.6 11/21- 136.0 Ophelia- Dietbet sounds interesting, I wish I'd found it earlier! I hope you win big! Chub- I hope your family isn't judgmental on Thanksgiving. I mean, honestly, that's a day when people should get a pass for eating pretty much what they want and how much they want. We can diet the other 364 days of the year. Gardenerjoy- I like your strategy to load up on veggies and sort of "stealth-mode" your diet so that others don't notice! Good idea! KFunk: DOMS = Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. I've noticed that when I'm sore from a workout my weight temporarily goes up, and from what I've read it's because DOMS pulls water in to repair muscle tissue. When the soreness goes away, you pee out the excess fluid and your weight drops. But I don't have any muscle soreness and I was definitely up about 2 lbs of water weight. It's unusual for me, kind of wondering what caused it. It seems to be going back down now. Blondie- I completely agree that sometimes a burger is needed for sanity! I do love a good burger! |
chub: I agree with everyone else in that I also think that's a good plan! Picking your battles and choosing when and where to indulge and where to mind your intake. I think it's the best way to approach a healthy, but also fulfilling, balance. :)
gardenerjoy: I like the idea of loading up on the veggies to help naturally portion out the heavier choices. I will be doing the same, as well! :carrot: kfunk: I will let you know how the DietBet goes, and you can let me know how incorporating weekly 24 hour fasts go! Blondie: Ups and downs are definitely a part of the process, so I'm glad that you're taking it in stride...I know how frustrating they can be! It's always good to keep in mind that the road to success is rarely linear -- we just have to get over those bumps and keep moving forward. :running: EagleRiverDee: Thank you! -------------------------------------- Weigh-in was back to 224.2 today, so that means I settled back in to a 3.0 lb loss for the week. I'm expecting my TOM to come in the next few days, so I'm hoping that doesn't derail my progress for the month too much -- especially with the holiday this Thursday on top of the fact that it is our oldest's birthday today. (My stepdaughter is turning 16...can't believe it!) I won't be indulging too much today, just because I am saving that for Thanksgiving...lol. We will see how that goes! eagle Thank you for explaining that, I have seen it a few times recently and I couldn't figure it out!! I am glad that you are coming back down!! I can't wait to be in the 130's! I hope there is quite the difference between the 170's and 130's because I am losing from weird places and have plenty excess fat to get rid of!!
ophelia I will wrap up my IF window at about 2pm and then fast until our Thanksgiving meal, I am hoping that the meal isn't too late in the afternoon!! 16, that is a huge bday, time flies, doesn't it?! We were on the same TOM schedule for a couple months, but mine is all over the place. I am on day 33 of my cycle, so I would assume I will get it before the month is over, but who knows! Good job getting back to 224.2 and congrats on a great week!! blondie I love how rational you are about the bodies natural ebbs and flows!! I have been actually craving a good burger lately... well actually what I want is a double quarter pounder from Mcdonalds, so not really sure that would fall under the "good burger" category, but it sounds good! SW: 182 GW: 171.6 11/21: 175.4 Total week 3: -5.2 11/22: 174.8 |
EagleRiverDee: DOMS causes water weight for me. I get a rare bump up that I can't explain, too. Fortunately, it only happens every couple of months -- if I don't panic and give up, everything goes back to normal in a few days. I'm glad your weight is dropping again.

I was 170 on my wedding day (1 year ago tomorrow), and you can clearly see in the photos that I have a belly, which I no longer have. So I fully expect you will look a lot different! |

kfunk: Best of luck on the extended fast...I hope the meal doesn't end up starting too late in the afternoon! And, an even more awesome week for you this week -- great work!! :cheer3:
EagleRiverDee: I've noticed my bum starting to deflate, as well...I guess it's about time for me to start including some squats and strength training soon! It's a fascinating process to watch how our bodies morph during this weight loss adventure. -------------------------------------- Weigh-in was 223.6 today...and, that's after going out to eat for our daughter's birthday dinner last night, on top of having a slice of cheesecake and a few bites of red velvet cake, so that was surprising. But, I'll take it! ;) I'm going a little lighter on the calories today to prepare for tomorrow, so I'm hoping the downward trend continues through the holiday. I'll do a quick check in tomorrow before everything starts here, but wishing a Happy Thanksgiving in advance to those who won't be on tomorrow! :happ3: Week Four 22: 223.6 23: 24: 25: 26: 27: 28: ---------------------------- End of Week Three: 224.2 Total Loss for Week Four: |
