Good morning, everyone. It's been officially one week of me counting calories and I'm down three pounds. I know realistically that it won't be this way every week since the first week is usually the body adapting and water weight flushing out. I'm optimistic, though!

Hello all :)
As I stated in my last post, my scales (new ones purchased from Amazon, digital, Epica brand, supposedly highly reliable, received them one day before first weight in, four battery) are defective scales. I will try to get this reported to Amazon for a refund or properly working scales today. Stepping on, read, off let scales go off, stepping on, read, off, again, repeating above several times, weight varies as much as 6 lbs. Scales consistently reading the same amount off, no problem, can allow for that. But they are too inconsistent for use for anything. OK, overall, I take in far less calories than needed for maintenance weight. With that said, I know I am losing weight regardless of what any scales say. To Sun 38, Gloricat, Stay Puft and others concerned about daily scale fluctuations: As we eat, drink, perspire, urinate, defecate, and whatever we do that use calories including just being alive, our weight is in a constant state of flux Added to that is the bodies resistance to change. When a fat cell loses fat it will take in water trying to maintain that size. This may go on for some while, then start releasing the extra liquids, in what look like remarkable sudden weight losses, even though one may have eaten way over for a few days prior. Do not let these fool you. If you are taking in less calories than you burn you ARE LOSING WEIGHT regardless of what the scales tell you at any one particular time. The total deficit in calories at the end of the week divided by 3500 will give you a very close approximation of your weight loss. Even given that, some of us have systems that are much more efficient at utilizing food, or other words more metabolic efficient. We learn over time more closely what individual bodies need for maintenance. Using that amount, whatever deficit you have over a weeks time divided by 3500 will be very close to your real loss. I suggest each of you pay much less attention to daily weight which fluctuates so much and use the what it says over a week, and over a month. I think all of you are doing great but worrying too much over daily fluctuations. I will get my new scales and post the weights. But I know I am losing, my calorie intake is way lower than my maintenance requirement. Not only that, but I am going down in size, I move easier, less joint pains, am more flexible, feel better overall.... ETC Remember, our worst enemies on this weight loss is ourselves. Don't be fooled by your scales, keep on keeping the calorie intake down and you the scales will get honest in time. Thanks for the support you have given me, and hope this helps you a bit B F R |

Hello all. My body is getting used to calorie counting, but I can tell when I'm honestly still hungry. Last night around 6:00 I had eaten a total of 1657 calories, but by 8:00 I was getting a headache and my stomach was growling. So, I had a small bowl of Cheerios and some peanut butter. This bumped me up another 300 calories, but I felt so much better after eating it. One thing I've learned with calorie counting is that you have to eat when you are hungry -- you don't want to starve yourself!!

hello all! So it looks like I will be eating on campus on Tuesdays for dinner. The dining hall actually has some pretty good healthy options and calorie counts listed, so it shouldn't be too challenging. The only thing that I think may be difficult is that I am sure the sodium levels are closer to a restaurants then eating at home so I might be back to the bi-weekly sodium bounces.

CW: 78.45 (+0.15) GW: 77 Angelique32: I averaged less than a pound a week on the way down -- with a couple of stalls of a month or more (and one unfortunate period where the weight went up instead of down). There's no "should" about how fast you'll lose. The conventional advice, here, seems to be to give a plan about 3 weeks. If you're not seeing results, then it's probably time to change something -- the serving size of a couple of items, remove a snack, change to an entirely different plan (which is also a good treatment for boredom), exercise more and/or add strength training. There's always something to experiment with! But give it time, you may be sitting on the precipice of a whoosh! |
Good morning!
Angelique as previous posters said, there is no set amount you should lose each week. Our bodies are mysterious machines and often times we have to do what we know should work and wait out it's stubborness. Looking at your weigh ins though you did lose .8, but then something bumped you back up. I would bet water retention of some sort since you have since been flushing it back off. emme looks like you are doing great! keep it up cheeriloos Hooray for a new low!!!! turtle sounds like a busy and stresfull beginning of the month. awesome job maintaining! It is an extremely busy and stressful week for me. I'm sorry I haven't been on to post and write personals, and unfortunately the rest of the week isn't going to be any better. Maybe on Monday things will settle down and go back to normal. I haven't even gotten my daily walks in for the last two mornings--no time--and my weight is stalled at 197! Dang that 197 set point! I was down to 195, out of the obese range, and here I am right back again. I'm sticking to my diet, but obviously something is different, and it's not just the missing walks because I hit 197 while I was walking. Stress, I guess. Anyway, congrats to those who are at new lows! I'm thinking of you all! |
Back down to 66.2 kgs. It's ovulation time, so my weight isn't going to change much no matter how small my body becomes because I put on 3cm on my stomach. Sigh. I won't have my full weight difference for this month until next month. However, I will keep posting changes as I see them. :)
13 Sept: 66.2 kgs (again) P.S. Can I amend my weight loss from 2.8 kgs to 1.8 kgs? lol  |
Sending happy thoughts to jacqui! All it can be is water weight if you have been on track. Probably from the stress from being so busy... keep it up it'll go back down SOON!!!

SouthernBell Are you drinking enough water? That makes a huge difference. So does sodium intake and if you're constipated or near TOM or stressed out. You will have ups and downs. Also like Turtle said, new exercises can temporarily cause a set back in weight loss, but it's not permanent. For a while last month I was so frustrated because my weight kept bouncing between the same 5 pounds. I would finally think things were working and I would get so close to hitting a milestone but then I would gain 3 pounds out of no where. But I kept at it and now I've passed that milestone and I'm still losing. Our bodies can be really stubborn but that's when you need to be just as stubborn back.
